The students have been using our little clocks to explore time during an explicit lesson and then the students have been using the iPad and using “Time Lion” and Mathletics/Mathseeds to check their understanding.

Length has included using many different items to measure. Firstly, the students have been using their eyes to guess which items are longest and shortest but then they have been using all sorts of different non-uniform units (MAB, counters, unifix cubes) to check if their sort was correct.

Finally we have been exploring capacity (how much does it hold) and that was the most fun because the students got to play in the sand pit. They were learning how to measure accurately and the importance of counting so they could answer the important question, “How many does your container hold?”
