Beetroot and Beans
Recently the students got to sample the fruits of their labours. Our vegetable garden is now producing beetroot and beans so the beetroot was prepared four different ways for the children to try. Many of the students had never tasted beetroot before and most had never tasted roasted or raw beetroot and they didn’t realise you could eat the leaves as a salad.
I prepared, roast beetroot, grated raw beetroot, boiled and pickled beetroot (like the tinned stuff) and shredded the leaves for a salad. The beans were chopped a bit so everyone could taste a freshly picked bean but after everyone had had a chance to taste the left-over whole beans were quickly eaten.
