Sports News
On Thursday August 31st, 54 year 5 & 6 students travelled to Craigslea State High School for the annual Queensland Primary Schools Volleyball Cup. This year’s competition was a little different to past years as there were two different divisions of participation. All Enoggera teams were placed in the “non-competitive” draw, however after watching the early games it is easy to see that the games were nothing but competitive. One of the grade 5 girls teams even got praise from another school for the way they played the game. They were happy to win the point, but encouraged the opposition when they scored too. Well done girls, that is the spirit we should all play with.
Students remained hydrated and stayed mostly in the shade which was important on such a hot day. I was very pleased to not see any sunburnt faces on our return to school.
I am pleased to say that overall the students behaviour was excellent, something that ESS prides itself on when we are out representing out community. Well done team.
Finally, the results. We had 2 winning teams – the girls grade 6 Blue team and the grade 6 boys Green team both won their division. Excellent effort! We had another team get 3rd place the grade 5 girls Red team. Another great effort. All other teams did make some finals appearance so again a huge well done to all!
A big thanks to the teachers attending on the day - it is a big day on your feet but hopefully the quality volleyball on display made up for it. Thanks to Mrs Hall, Mr Emes and TA Mr Giblin.
Hats
Its getting very hot outside for our PE lessons and lunch time play. Sunsafe hats are an essential part of our school uniform. Please check that your child has their hat everyday. In our younger classes we have been talking about how they can remember to always have their hats – keep it in their bag, leave it in tidy trays or some even have a spare hat so they always have one.
A huge congratulations to all grade 2 students as every student had their hats this week – such a pleasing effort, well done.
Interschool Sport
Gala Days are being planned for City District Schools for the first three Fridays in Term 4. Notes have been sent home and are due back at school this week for all year 5 & 6 students. Teams have been nominated and some practice will begin. If you have not returned the permission form or paid the bus fee – please do so by the due date.
Plans are also underway for the year 3 & 4 classes to participate in skill development programs at school on the same three Fridays that the senior students are participating in Gala sports.
Swimming
We will be returning to the pool for our PE lessons in Term 4. Please keep an eye out for swimming days as it will likely change. If you are a parent of a child in Prep to grade 2 and would like to volunteer at the swimming lessons, please email me directly to let me know – aawoo0@eq.edu.au
Remember for swimming students will need the following:
- Swimming Bag (suitable to hold all swimming gear and uniforms when in the pool).
- Swimmers (please avoid cross overs straps for our younger students if possible, they can cause difficulties when getting changed for our little ones.)
- Towel
- Swimming Cap (COMPULSORY)
- Sunsafe Shirt (this may be either a rash vest or a T-shirt)
- Goggles (Recommended)
- Plastic Bag to carry wet swim wear after lessons.
(Please make sure ALL items of clothing are marked with the students name – this includes school uniforms.)
