Principal Pen

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As we close out the 152nd year of operation of this wonderful school it is time to reflect on all that we achieved throughout the year.

After a well-deserved break and time to recharge we will turn our attention to the new school year and will be back with a renewed spring in our step and passion to support our wonderful students again in 2024.

We would like to thank our supportive parents and carers along with community members for all that you do, to ensure your students are at school each day ready to learn and give everything their best shot.

PRINCIPAL’S AWARD CEREMONY

On Monday at our Principal’s Award Ceremony, we saw three students from each class achieve awards for demonstrating our three school pillars - Learning, Safety and Relationships, consistently across the semester. The ceremony went smoothly with excellent participation and behaviour of our wonderful students, attendance from a large crowd of parents and carers and the superb organisation by school staff.

A massive congratulations to all of the award recipients, but also to all of the other students who may not have received awards, but still have done their best and achieved their personal learning goals for the year.

2024 CAPTAINS

At the conclusion of the assembly, we announced the Captains for 2024 and held a congratulatory handover from the current Captains to the 2024 Captains. I am pleased to announce after a very rigorous process which commenced with a criteria card, application and submitting a persuasive letter. The eight shortlisted School Captain nominees gave a speech in front of the Year 3/4/5/6 students, staff and parents. We then conducted a student and staff voting process. A panel of staff then had the difficult job of considering all of the data to make the final decisions to select the best candidates for the various positions for 2024.

Our 2024 Captains are:

School Captains: Bronte Scholes and Adelyn Blatchford.

Vice-School Captain and Student Council Chairperson: Isabella Hall

Arts Captains: Georgia Linedale and Ivy Smith

Banksia House Captains: Levi Lavin and Mason Cross

Waratah House Captains: Jamie Landon and Ivy Atkins.

BREAK UP DAY and CLEAN UP DAY

Thursday will be our break up day/class celebration day. Each class will be partaking in holding a pizza party in their classes at 12pm - payment for the pizza day closed last friday. Games and activities will be organised by class teachers, which will including swimming for some classes. Your classroom teachers will have communicated what is planned for the day.

This is a usual school day and as such students need to be in normal school uniform. We will also do the traditional send-off tunnel and guard of honour for the Year 6 students tomorrow afternoon at 2:50pm at the front of the school.

On Friday there are usually limited students at school as this will be clean up and moving day in readiness for next year. Of course, school will be open on Friday for those families who need supervision for their children, but all of the activities for the year will be finished on Thursday.

Friday will be a big day of teachers moving and cleaning classrooms in readiness for next year. Students attending on Friday still need to wear full school uniform, as this is not a free dress day. A reminder that tuckshop has finished for the year so there will be no tuckshop or party food on this day. Please ensure students bring their usual lunches.

2024 SCHOOL YEAR

A reminder that the school office will be open from Monday, 15th January 9-3pm and that teachers will be involved in professional development from Wednesday, 17th January through to Friday, 19th January.

School recommences for the new school year on Monday, 22nd January, 2024.  The Australia Day Public Holiday will be on Friday 26th January, at the end of the first week back.

Parents will be able to drop off book list items to outside the tuckshop on the tables set up from Wednesday, 17th through to Friday 19th January mornings between 7.15am and 10:00am, so that they can be transported to classrooms each day in readiness for the first day. A reminder that booklists were sent home recently for Year 1-6 with contact details for our suppliers, Bedrock Books at Brendale. The booklists are also avalible online on our school website. You can of course choose to purchase classroom items elsewhere, if you wish. Please ensure if items are purchased elsewhere, that they are the correct items or of similar quality.

Prep School Resource Scheme information was also distributed to Prep families recently with the participation agreement on Q Parents and also in hard copy. These agreements must be returned by Friday this week to ensure ordering of the correct amounts of equipment for Prep. Invoices will be issued for payment in the new year and can be made in one payment or across terms one and two. If you do not wish to be part of the Resource Scheme for Prep you will need to purchase all items on the list and provide them to school for the start of the year and your child will be unable to partake of the shared resources system that operates in Prep.

A reminder also when purchasing uniforms for next year that our dress code states all black shoes and white socks, so if purchasing new shoes for next year please make sure these align with the dress code. All black shoes means all black shoes, soles and laces with no coloured trims, coloured laces or white soles. A reminder that boots, high tops and basketball shoes are not acceptable school wear.

With regard to hair- our dress code states that hair should be of a natural and style and colour for school, so this means alternative haircuts and colours are not suitable for school. If hair is of shoulder length or longer it needs to be tied back.  This applies to girls and boys.

Our students look fantastic here at Enoggera State School when they wear their full uniform with pride. I encourage parents to support this and ensure their children are able to comply with the approved dress code and are coming to school in full and correct uniform every single day.

The uniform shop will be open in the week prior to school:

Monday 15/1 from 9am to 11 am

Thursday 18/1 from 4pm to 6pm

Friday 19/1 from 9am to 11am.

It will then be open on the first day of school on Monday 22/1 from 8-9am. Items are always available to be ordered on QKR and these orders will be filled when the uniform shop returns.

YEAR 6 GRADUATION

On Thursday will be the Year 6 Graduation, which is often both a happy and sad occasion. We celebrate this Year 6 cohort, who have been outstanding learners and great role models for our entire school. We have valued their contribution to Enoggera State School and are truly sad that the time for them to leave has arrived. Even so, we know that they leave ESS with excellent knowledge and skills to progress well in their learning and also having a deep understanding of how to enact the school pillars to help them be their best every day. Go well, Year 6. We will miss you. Our whole school will farewell our graduates at the front of the school at 3pm on Thursday afternoon.
