Volleyball Cup
On Thursday 29th August, 59 Year 5 & 6 students travelled to Craigslea State High School for the annual Queensland Primary Schools Volleyball Cup.
It was so good to see so many children from so many schools participating on the day.
All 11 teams played in various finals, however two Year 5 Boys teams - Yellow and Green made it to the first VS second playoffs. Both teams ended up winning second place, which was a fantastic effort.
Students remained hydrated and stayed mostly in the shade which was important on such a hot day. I was very pleased to not see any sunburnt faces on our return to school.
A big thanks to the teachers attending on the day as it is a big day on your feet but hopefully the quality volleyball on display made up for it. Thanks to Miss Lancaster and Miss Dowling plus support staff at school assisting with all the administration on the day.
Hats
Students not having their hats for PE is still a huge issue for most classes.
Sunsafe hats are an essential part of our school uniform. Please check that your child has their hat everyday.
In our younger classes we have been talking about how they can remember to always have their hats – keep it in their bag, leave it in tidy trays or some even have a spare hat in their school bag so they always have one.
Interschool Gala Sport Term 4
Gala Days are all set for City District Schools for the first three Fridays in Term 4. Notes have been sent home via email and all online consents and payments are due by friday the 13th of September for all year 5 & 6 students planning on attending. Teams have been nominated and Mr Woodrick will inform teams early next term. If you have not completed the QParents consent or paid the bus fee – please do so by the due date.
Year 3 & 4 classes will also participate in skill development program at school on the same three Fridays that the senior students are participating in Gala sports.
Tennis
The first ESS tennis tournament was a huge success. We had our semi-finals day on Tuesday and I am pleased to announce Matias C will play Harry P in the Thursday final. This will be a properly scored final which will add some extra interest in the match.
Look out for who is champion in the next newsletter.
This event will be held every year so please keep up the practice if you are in the younger grades.
A big thanks to Scott from Slice Tennis who helped get the competition up and running and supplied the trophy.
Well done to all 61 students who gave it a go. It was awesome watching the competition and seeing the crowd support all players. It was also very encouraging to see the sportsmanship on display, with a handshake or fist bump at the net at the end of the match. Well done.
Swimming
We will be returning to the pool for our PE lessons in Term 4. Please keep an eye out for swimming days as it will likely change from Term 1.
If you are a parent of a child in Prep to Year 2 and would like to volunteer at the swimming lessons, please email me directly to let me know – aawoo0@eq.edu.au
Remember for swimming students will need the following:
- Swimming Bag (suitable to hold all swimming gear and uniforms when in the pool).
- Swimmers (please avoid cross overs straps for our younger students if possible, they can cause difficulties when getting changed for our little ones.)
- Towel
- Swimming Cap (COMPULSORY)
- Sunsafe Shirt (this may be either a rash vest or a T-shirt)
- Goggles (Recommended)
- Plastic Bag to carry wet swim wear after lessons.
(Please make sure ALL items of clothing are marked with the students name – this includes school uniforms.)
