Principal News
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING PROGRAM
The Learning Curve focus this week is from the ‘Meaning and Purpose’ category and the wellbeing skill builder is Celebrating Differences. This topic ensures that we understand that everyone in our school community has their own different backgrounds and strengths, and to ensure that we value and celebrate these differences. If we are able to accept and celebrate other’s differences we will feel more connected to our school community.
Students are working on this topic during their Health lessons and then following up with their class teachers as well as using their ESS Learning Curve diaries. The parent article re this topic is attached for your information.
2025 CLASS PREFERENCE FORMS
Please find again below the class preference form for students for 2025. There is a space on the form to indicate if your students will be returning to ESS for 2025 and if so, this is an opportunity to reflect on this year and indicate a preference of the style of class and teacher that would suit your students better. There is also a place to indicate students you would prefer they be placed with or not for next year. These forms will need to be returned to the administration office (not class teachers) by the end of week 4 - Friday 25th October, to be considered in the class placement process. We will commence this process with teachers in week 5.
Please be reminded that this is not an opportunity to choose a teacher as at this stage staffing and teacher placements for next year have not been finalised. Whilst we take on board the feedback, of course there is no guarantee that all requests can be actioned, as ultimately, we have to make the best placements conducive to teaching and learning for all students.
PREP 2025 ENROLMENTS AND TRANSITION MORNINGS
A reminder that if you know of families who live in our catchment and are planning to come here next year, please remind them to get their enrolments in asap as we are now planning for the next phase of the process which is the Prep Transition mornings to be held next Friday on November 1 and Nov 15 for all enrolled 2025 Prep students. Email reminders around the transition processes have been sent out to all enrolled families today.
2024 YEAR BOOK
A reminder that again this year we are producing a Year Book of the 2024 school year at Enoggera State School. This book is a great memory book of the year and is available to purchase by our families. It includes class pages and pages on all of our school events and activities throughout the year. It also includes a special focus on our graduates.
The book is gifted to our graduating students at the graduation ceremony and will also be available for collection for families who order and pay for one prior. Order forms will be emailed out shortly so if you wish to purchase the year book please complete the order form attached and return to the office with payment Friday, November 29, so that you do not miss out.
As we only have 60 available this year the first 60 families that order will receive their copy before the holidays. A further order can be placed after that for delivery at the start of school next year.
GRADUATION
A reminder that our Graduation Ceremony for our Year 6 students will be held on Thursday 5th December at 9:00am in EPAC. This will be followed by the Guard of Honour later in the day and then the Graduation Social Event in EPAC that night.
Information will go out shortly to the Year 6 families with information about the event. The cost of tickets for a 3-course catered buffet dinner will be $45 per head. There will be a DJ to entertain the students after the dinner. There will be a limit on 3 tickets per student to the dinner (graduate and 2 parents) only.
Thank you to those parents who attended the meeting last Friday afternoon to set up a committee of parents who would be interested in assisting with some roles as the event gets closer. These would be tasks such as setting up, cleaning up, decorating the EPAC and setting up a photo booth. Please contact Tina Burrows at school if you would like to help but were unable to attend the meeting.
WEEK 11
A reminder that we are still working on a plan for week 11 of this term, however as was in the last newsletter, this week 11 of school is being termed a ‘soft week’ and there will be no formal activities or formal teaching occurring. All official school events will be finalised by the usual end of week 10 of the term and week 11 will be supervision and alternative activities for those students’ requiring supervision.
Therefore, if families are wishing to go on holidays early, they can go at the end of week 10 as usual, without missing anything important at school. Hopefully, with less students attending in week 11 we will be able to collapse classes so that our teachers get some planning and preparation time for the new school year before heading into the holidays.
STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT SURVEY
A reminder that the survey around the review of our Student Code of Conduct is currently out for consultation and will close on Monday 27th October. This information will be very valuable to our Leadership team as we finalize the final piece of the consultation puzzle around the review so that we can adjust our document to get it out to the community ready to start the new school year.
COLLABORATIVE LEARNING COMMUNITY
Members of our teaching team and leadership team are currently part of a year long regional program called CLC where we will work collaboratively with other schools to interrogate our achievement data (NAPLAN and A-E) and to refine our strategies in place, to ensure the maximum numbers of students are achieving A and B grades in English each semester. We are very excited to be part of this project as it will help us to sharpen our teaching tools and strategies in place for the benefit of students in our school. Thank you to Mrs Egerton and Mrs Harris for representing the class teachers on this project.
SCHOOL’S OFFICER POSITION
Unfortunately, our recent recruitment process for a new permanent School’s Officer has come up empty without a suitable applicant being appointed to the role. On the advice from HR we are now moving forward with a temporary EOI to fill the position for the rest of the term and into the new year before we conduct another process.
An EOI advertisement is in this newsletter and has also gone out on our Facebook site and other internal discussion lists in the hope of broadening the net from Smart Jobs to find a suitable School’s Officer for our school. If you know of anyone who might be suitable please pass the word on.
CHAPLAINCY
Recently the Local Chaplaincy Committee were advised that our Chappy Twinkee will be completing her studies at the end of this year and taking fulltime employment in the new year. This will mean that our Chaplain position will be vacant.
Recently at the P & C meeting, discussions were had around the option of changing to the new Wellbeing Officer also provided from the same funding. As this change can only occur when the position is vacant or at the end of funding agreement, it was decided to send a survey to all families in our school community to get an indication for ongoing support of having a Chaplain in our school or moving to the new Wellbeing Officer. I have provided some information below re the two roles but basically both positions do the same role, but the Chaplains are provided by Scripture Union and Wellbeing Officers can come a from range of different approved providers to meet the funding guidelines.
Therefore, a survey will be emailed out to all families in the next couple of days and it would be great if each family could decide if they would support a Chaplain or a Wellbeing Officer moving forward for the rest of this funding period until 2027.
Once we determine the needs of the community this will be ratified at the next P & C C meeting in November, so that we can move forward with either recruiting a new Chaplain or a Wellbeing Officer for 2025.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
