Safe use of phones and iPads and computers at home  

The Office of the eSafety Commissioner has suggested 5 important rules for families to follow:

1. Be kind and take turns. This is a great opportunity to consolidate good sharing habits at home.
2. At dinner time, no screens.  Spilled food and drink can cause irreparable damage. Take time at dinner for face-face conversations.
3. Use devices only in shared spaces. Children and adults can readily discuss what they are doing, seeing and hearing online.
4. Ask Permission to use a device. It is important to discuss and set boundaries before a device is used.
5. No taking screen to bed. That means adults too! Set good habits by setting devices on charge in a location outside the bedroom, under a fire alarm.

Premier’s Coding Challenge

So far we have only six students (years 3-6) taking part in the Premier’s Coding Challenge. Please promote the Challenge at home, as an ideal opportunity for greater awareness of 17UN Sustainable Goals.

I am pleased to report that Enoggera SS students have already begun developing computer apps to inform people about poverty, homelessness, climate change and gender equity. To take part, download the forms or contact Mr Harris.

Robot Club

This Term we are building robots to compete in the Vex Go challenge. The first Challenge is to use a magic eye sensor to avoid obstacles. This Term we do not have to remove the robot parts at the end of lunchtime, as we were in Term 1. We have eight robots available (Years 2-6). Students can see Mr Harris on Tuesday and/or Thursday at Second Lunches if you (or a small group) are keen to build a robot this Term.
