Principal News
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE
This week our Learning Curve program is from the ‘Positive Emotion and Gratitude’ category. The wellbeing skill builder is ‘Challenges’ for the Prep to Year 2 cohort and ‘Effort to be Resilient’ for the Year 3 to 6 classes. The junior idea is about introducing the concept of challenges to overcome, to feel happy and to grow themselves. The senior topic is about understanding that they will keep getting better when they respond well to challenges and bounce back from setbacks, by practising being resilient every day.
These concepts were introduced in the Health lessons with Miss Dunstan this week and followed up in classrooms. Our year 3 to 6 students continue to track their progress in their Learning Curve diaries. The parent newsletter is attached below.

We have been advised this week that Mrs Gradwell (1B) will be continuing her leave for the remainder of the year. Mrs Heather Fairfax, who is on the class currently has agreed to continue teaching the class to ensure the class have consistency for the remainder of the year.
Teacher Aide, Calem Kowaltzke will finish up with us at the end of the term also as he pursues other work opportunities - you may still see him around as he has agree to work casually for us when required.
School’s Officer, Reynaldo Delatorre is continuing on work cover after an injury at work and is currently being replaced by Ian Lenane. Ian is happy to continue on whilst we support Reynaldo with his return-to-work program.
As our HOSES, Theresa Treacy is also leaving at the end of the term, Belinda Paton has been offered the position as Acting for Term 3 whilst further permanent recruitment takes place for Term 4. Belinda will be backfilled in her role by Sarah Dionysius, who has been working on 1A and relieving work with us this term.
We have a range of staff that will be taking Long Service Leave during next term. Ms Lynn Lancaster (5/6A) and Mrs Rebecca Nelson (1A) return in week one of the term. We thank Miss Eliza Kelly and Miss Sarah Dionysius who have backfilled them during their leave. In week one of Term Three, Mrs Karen Kent will be taking Long Service Leave and she will be replaced by Miss Eliza Kelly who has just been on 5/6A and has already been teaching some of the students in their subject specialisation lessons. This should be a very smooth transition as she has been involved in all of the planning sessions ready for next term. She will also replace Mrs Donagh McKenzie (Success Teacher for 5/6) and Miss Tamara Dowling (5/6C) as they also take some LSL later in the term.
DEFENCE SCHOOL MENTOR FUNDING
Due to an increase in demand and a very competitive application process, unfortunately the school will not be funded for a Defence School Mentor for this coming financial year, so unfortunately, our Defence School Mentor (DSM), Mrs Hannah Lee will finish up at the end of the term.
We will continue to support our Defence students via other means such as through the Student Support Team, particularly the Wellbeing Officer and the Wellbeing Package for the Guidance Officer, where needed. The Defence Member and Family Supports (DMFS) also provides a range of targeted support for school age children navigating moving schools and education systems. To access please see the links below:
- Access to the Education Assistance Scheme
- Attendance by your child at the ADF Equip Children’s Group Resilience Program (can be delivered by DMFS staff to Defence children within your school)
- Assistance for families with special needs
- 24/7 access to the Defence Member and Family Helpline
HOLIDAY WORKS
Over the school holidays the front car park will once again be closed to traffic as the Brisbane City Council do substantial works on the carpark, road and drainage at the front of the school. The work will commence next Monday 30th June and will likely continue for most of the holidays. We are hoping that access will be back to normal for the start of Term 3. Therefore, if you are using OSHC over the holidays you will once again need to park on the street and use the main front gate to enter the school and the OSHC rooms.
PREP ENROLMENTS
If you know of families who live in our catchment and are hoping to come to Enoggera State School next year, please let them know of the school Open Day coming up next term on Friday July 25th from 9-11am. Families who have made their decision, can drop in their enrolments forms to the office at any time. This will enable staff to load them onto the system and open the communication channels for next year.
WINTER SOIREE
It was lovely to see some of our Performing Arts groups that have not had the opportunity to perform thus far this year, perform at the Winter Soiree in week 8. Many thanks to Mrs Rees and Miss Dunstan for their work in preparing and providing an informal performance opportunity for these groups to showcase their repertoire.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Our next round of Parent Teacher Interviews for Semester Two have been scheduled for Tuesday July 22 which is week 2 Term Three from 3:15-7:25 pm in EPAC. These interviews are an opportunity to discuss the reports from Semester One which will be emailed home tomorrow and to reflect on the progress thus far and set learning goals for Semester Two.
Information regarding bookings will be in the newsletter today as bookings will open tomorrow morning at 6am. Parent bookings will close the day before the interviews on Monday July 21 at 6am.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
We are so lucky at ESS to have such supportive families and talented staff, which results in fantastic kids to work with every day. Thank you for the work you do with our students to help them shine. As we head into the winter break, I would like to wish everyone a fantastic holiday and we look forward to seeing everyone back to do it all again for Term 3. If you are travelling over the break, please take care and we hope you all are able to enjoy some down time and time catching up with family and friends.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
