Deputy Principal News

Pillar Practice

Even though it is the last week of the term, our expectations on student behaviour remain high. This week’s focus is on key behaviours in each of our school pillars that will ensure our students finish the term strong.

  • Continue to make green choices both in and out of the classroom
  • Always keep hands and feet to self
  • Be respectful of all staff and students
  • Keep learning until the very end of the term
  • Be safe by using your Walking Feet

Please take a moment to discuss these expectations with your children.

Toys and Balls from home

Our School Pillars establish our school expectations for behaviours around Learning, Safety and Relationships.  Recently, there has been an issue with students starting to bring toys to school. This includes trading cards, fidget toys and soft toys. The school expectation is that children do NOT bring any toys to school as they can cause disruptions to teaching and learning; create altercations between students during play time; and be unsafe. Only in the instance of a toy being documented as a reasonable adjustment in a student’s personalised learning plan for specific needs, are students permitted to have a sensory style toy at school.

We would appreciate if parents would check that students are not packing toys to bring to school in line with our school expectations.

Facebook

Our school has a very active Facebook page with frequent posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. To find our events, simply click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events. You will start to see posts for next term’s events over the next couple of weeks to help you to plan for the term ahead.

If you have a Facebook page, we encourage all parents to follow our school page so you can enjoy the wonderful experiences our school has to offer. The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post.  This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate comments will be removed from the platform.  Please remember to never make comments on the page referencing a child’s name for privacy reasons.

School Dress Code

A reminder to families about some of the uniform expectations outlined in our school Dress Code. Students are required to wear white ankle socks with plain black shoes.  Some students are wearing long socks pulled up to their knees or black socks which are both not appropriate. Girls should also be mindful of the earrings they wear to school – wearing plain studs and sleepers only. Hoop earrings are not considered safe for school as they can easily be pulled from earlobes during play and cause a safety risk. A reminder also that girls are required to pull long hair up.

The Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.

Student Council

Thank you for your recent support of the Student Council Subway Meal Deal. We will hold another Subway Meal Deal in Term Three to raise funds towards the legacy item.

The “Book Swap” for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation will be held this Thursday in the library. The Student Council hopes that students will enjoy the opportunity to swap their books and have some new reading material for the holidays.

Under 8s Day

Students in Prep to Year 2 will enjoy a variety of activities as we celebrate Under 8s Day on Friday 27th June from 9am to 11am. Visitors from our local kindies will also be attending, along with the Fire Brigade and the Police!  Mr Harris will start the morning with a science experiment on the oval and Mrs O’Malley will conclude the morning with a shared story on the multi-court. We hope to see lots of people there to celebrate being Under 8!

Spell-a-thon

The big fundraising event for the Student Council is the ESS Spell-a-thon.  Last year, the students raised enough money to purchase a second table tennis table, and the cold water bubbler for the students. We are moving our spell-a-thon forward in the calendar a little bit this year to work around the P&C Colour Fun Run at the end of Term 3. Therefore, sponsorship forms and spelling lists were sent home in Week 9.  Teachers will select a spelling list for students in their class based on individual needs so that everyone can confidently participate in the spell-a-thon. Please be assured that the spell-a-thon is not used for any kind of assessment of students. Sponsorship forms and spelling lists will be sent home with students on Friday of this week.  Students will have Week 9 and 10 and the two weeks of the school holidays to practice their words and collect sponsors per work or donations. All forms will need to be returned by the end of Week 1 in Term 3 and the spelling tests will be held in Week 2. Further information will be sent home with regards to the process of collecting sponsorship money in a letter on Friday.  Thanks so much for your support of this fundraiser for the Student Council.

Pink Vest Volunteers

Over Term One and Term Two, a group of dedicated Year 5 and 6 students have given up some or many of their lunch play times to volunteer to support students in various areas of the school. This includes transitioning preppies to and from the library, supporting the sandpit, junior fort, bubble club and the junior obstacle course. Most of these volunteers have done this for the whole semester! These students have become affectionately known as the pink vest volunteers! We recognised and thanked these students for their time and effort by presenting them with a special pink certificate on assembly this week. For Year 5 aspirant leaders in 2026, this is an excellent responsibility to list on their applications!

Happy Holidays

It has been a great term, but I know that both staff and students are all in need of a well-deserved break to recharge their batteries and be ready for more learning and great events in Term Three. I wish everyone a very relaxing holiday and look forward to seeing everyone after the break. If you are staying in the local area, please keep a close eye on our school grounds and please report any suspicious activity on 13 17 88.
