Principal's Pen
With the disruption to schools prior to Easter, during the Easter vacation and over the last 5 weeks, it feels like a very, very long time since we have seen most of our students. That all changed this week and there have been smiles all round as we opened the school gates again. As well as being welcomed back by some skillful fence decorating, students enjoyed a rare Monday lunchtime disco with popcorn and ice-blocks served up. Best of all however was the chance to re-connect with friends and teachers. Now it’s time for some serious settling in to work.

Thank you to all of you who have supported the new drop off and pick up regimes. Students are confidently entering the grounds in the morning and the staggered finishing time and arrival of parents in the Stop Drop Go area has been working well. The Council has been working quickly to establish the infrastructure for a second Stop Drop Go in Laurel Street and we will transition to using this by the end of term - more information will follow when this area is complete.
The 2020 Premier’s Reading Challenge is open and we have our first completed reading record, with Lucy putting in a fabulous effort and already reading 20 books! A reminder that to meet the challenge, Prep-Y2 students need to read or experience 20 books, Y3 and 4 need to read 20 books, while Y5 and 6 students read 15 books. This is a great way to encourage your children to improve literacy and read for pleasure and they will end up with a certificate from the Premier. To make it easier to get started, there is a recording sheet attached to this newsletter. Completed sheets are to be handed in to class teachers.
National Sorry Day is a day to acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors and reflect on how we can all play a part in the healing process for our people and nation.Thank you Louis, Harry and Elizabeth who attended the Teralba Park virtual National Sorry Day Commemoration, laying a flower tribute in the spirit of Reconciliation.

Chappy Week is an annual event run by SU QLD to raise awareness of the value of school chaplains. We are privileged to have our Chappy Sarah, who assists in providing a supportive and nurturing school environment for our students. As we have just started back to school, we will be postponing our Chappy week until the last week of term, with lots of fun activities planned.
