Welcome Back

It was with huge excitement that we were able to welcome back our Year 2 – 6 students this week.  It has been lovely to see how quickly students have reengaged with their teachers, peers and the wider school community!  Learning programs have recommenced with all students involved in Guided Reading Programs and Spelling Mastery for the upper school.

With our students involved in such unique learning experiences for the first five weeks of the term, I thought it fitting to provide some insight on how some students feel about their experiences of home school and returning to Enoggera State School. Some responses have been included below.

Sienna P/1 A:

“I feel good about being back at school.  The best thing about being back at school is I get to see my friends.  I liked learning at home because mum was a good teacher but not as good as Mrs Nelson”

Alexis 3A:

“I like being back at school because I get to see my friends but I am not such a fan of doing the school work.  A good thing about learning at home was I got to see my dogs and cats.  My home school teacher (mum) was nice but dad needed to teach me science”.

Liv 56A:

"I feel sad because I really liked being at home.  I found learning at home fun because I could start and finish work whenever I wanted.  One funny story was when I got mad at mum for not getting a question right! The good thing about being back is seeing my friends and getting away from my family.”

Jhett 56A:

“I feel great being back at school.  The best thing about being back at school is seeing my wonderful teacher and my friends.  Learning at home was really frustrating because my computer was really slow.”

As your child returns to school, they may feel a range of emotions, including excitement, relief, or worry. If you notice changes in your child’s behaviour, sleep, mood, interactions with others, or eating habits – these are all normal expressions of worry and support strategies may include:

  • Getting back into regular routines and habits
  • Talk to your child about their day, including what they enjoyed, what may have worried them, and what they found difficult.
  • Include some family time - Children may miss being at home with you during the day so it is important for them to feel close and connected with the family.

If you feel that your child is requiring additional support in positively transitioning back to school please email your classroom teacher who will liase with Administration.

Support is also available for children through Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800 or by visiting the Kids Helpline website.
