Class News
Wow, what a busy term we have had in Year 1, it has gone way too quickly!!!
At the start of the term, we had our second fire visit where the students recalled all they had learnt about fire safety at the first visit and were treated to a tour of a fire engine. The students thoroughly enjoyed learning about all the different equipment and everyone had the opportunity to use the fire hose.

This term we also commemorated Remembrance Day, celebrated NAIDOC Week and Book Week, took part in World Kindness day activities, watched other talented ESS students perform in Arts on Stage and of course last week, participated in the Junior Swimming Carnival.

Year 1 students have also been working hard in class this term. In English, we started the term learning how to write procedural texts and the students used the computers to design a multi-modal procedure to make a disgusting sandwich. In the last few weeks, the students have been learning about persuasion, they have enjoyed creating their own persuasive story based on the Pigeon book series by Mo Willems.
In Maths this term we have consolidated knowledge of addition and subtraction, telling time to the hour and half hour, collecting and representing data, halving and classifying outcomes of familiar events.
The students were very engaged in Science this term as we tackled a very hands-on unit around Light and Sound. Students experimented with light and sound and demonstrated their understanding of sound and changes to sound by making their own instruments.
In Health we have been busy learning about keeping ourselves safe, with a particular emphasis on safety around roads, in cars and while riding bikes.
As we wind down for the last few days of the school year, the Year 1's are busy with some fun Christmas activities, before heading off for a well-deserved break.
We would like to thank all the parents for their support and help through what has been a very unsettled year of learning. We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a relaxing holiday before your children embark on their next learning journey in Year 2
