Principal's Pen

Dear Parent and Caregivers,

PREP ENROLMENT

It is that time of the year again when we start to look towards our new enrolments for next year.  We have set dates for two open mornings this term, where prospective families can come for a tour of the school facilities and listen to a general talk about our school and the programs we have on offer by the Principal and Head of Department-Curriculum.  These Open mornings will be held on September 1st and September 7th from 9-10am and will commence in the EPAC facility on Laurel St.

Following that will be the Prep enrolment interviews with a member of the Administration team for those families that want to enrol a Prep student for 2022.  These interviews will be held in the last two weeks of this term between September 6th and September 17th and will be able to be booked through the SOBS booking system by each enrolled family at a time that suits them.  These bookings will open on August 1st. At that interview we will collect some information about the child entering Prep and check that all of the enrolment paperwork is in order and provide information around the rest of the enrolment and transition process.

Following the enrolment process then in Term 4 we will hold transition afternoons and information sessions which will focus specifically on preparing the child for Prep and also providing all of the necessary information about the Prep program to the parents.  If you have any questions about the Prep enrolment process for 2022 please call the Administration office.

I would also encourage prospective families to attend our 150th Celebration Family Fun Day on August 28th from 11am-4pm on the school oval as there will be school tours also available on this day and it will be a wonderful way to get a feel for the culture and tradition in this beautiful school and to meet our supportive families.

PARLIAMENT HOUSE

I was privileged to attend Parliament House with our School Captains-Samantha and Ellia on Monday as guests of our Member of Parliament for Everton, Mr Tim Mander who invited the Captains from the schools in his electorate for a tour of Parliament House and an information session around our electoral processes followed by a BBQ lunch outside the Parliamentary Annex.  It was a very informative session and the students all asked very insightful questions of Tim and how Parliament works in Qld.  As usual our School Captains were excellent ambassadors for our school and I was again very proud to be the Principal of this wonderful school.  Well done girls!

NAIDOC WEEK

In the second week of the school holidays Australia celebrated NAIDOC Week which is the National Aboriginal and Islander Day of Action.  This year the theme of the week was to ‘Heal Country’. To mark this week our classes participated in some NAIDOC activities throughout the first week back at school.  It was wonderful to see our YMCA apply for funding to buy resources to run some activities with our Prep classes and our Environmental Club under the direction of Mrs Kent start some planting of some new native shrubs around the school.

I was lucky enough to join Prep B for their activities as they listened to some Indigenous stories and then participated in some art activities around those stories.  Thank you to YMCA for including us in this activity and also a big thankyou to Mrs Kerr and Mrs McKenzie for facilitating a range of resources for teachers to use in their classrooms and the library throughout the week.

At the end of next week Mrs Laura Arthur will be commencing her maternity leave from 3B and Mrs Kim Turner will take over her 3 days each week on the class.  We wish Mrs Arthur all the best for her leave and the birth of the new baby and we welcome back Mrs Turner who is well known in our school.

It is that time of the year when the Teacher Transfer process for 2022 is in full swing.  The DoE is looking to fill some temporary teaching positions in our school with permanent transfers in for next year so it will be interesting to see how the process pans out for us here.

After the Defence School Mentor position was advertised late last term there was an issue with the Principal email address over the holidays, so we have decided to reopen the applications until Monday 26th July at 5pm to allow any who were not able to get their applications sent though apply before the recruitment place takes place.  The advertisement is in this newsletter again this week.

We are currently recruiting for the permanent Deputy Principal position here at Enoggera State School.  Last week a panel was formed to find a suitable DP from the applicants on the relocation list and this week we are interviewing.  It is pleasing to note that there are very experienced Deputies in the mix for us to make sure we get the best fit for this school.

MULTI-PURPOSE ROOF and NEW BUILDING

The Multi-purpose roof project has stalled at present as the tenders which were all submitted late last term for the project were all over the amount of money that had been prioritised through grants and P and C loans and funding for the project.  The P and C will be discussing this at the next meeting to decide how we can move forward.

The new building project is progressing along nicely but we are still waiting to see whether funds have been allocated to the project in the building budgets for the 2021-2022 financial year. Hopefully we will hear shortly around this.

At the last meeting we had with the project team before the holidays we were most impressed by the planning and designs for the building as below and are hopeful the project will move forward.
