Principal Pen
Dear Parent and Caregivers,
P AND C AND SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETINGS
Recently both the P and C and the School Council have met. The P and C meeting was focussed around following up from the very successful Family Fun Day as part of our 150th celebrations. It was very pleasing to hear that the P and C raised around $12 000 in profits from the event. There was also discussion around the pedestrian crossing on South Pine Rd, and I am pleased to advise that just this week I have been involved in a meeting to look at some options for a submission around this crossing and others on our active travel routes. This will support the safety of our students on their way to and from school.
At the School Council meeting, the new School Council members took on their roles on this committee and we talked about the strategic planning for the school and the infrastructure plans moving forward. This is the beginning of the next tenure on School Council for this new committee and we look forward to working with them. The new School Council consists of:
Tina Burrows (Deputy Principal) Appointed Member and School Council Chairperson
Anne Robinson (Principal)
Renee Coyne (P and C President)
Darren Roxburgh (Teaching representative)
Raewyn Roxburgh (Non-Teaching representative)
Lisa McDonald (Parent Representative) and School Council Secretary
Amanda Kershaw (Parent Representative)
HUMAN RESOURCES
Last week we welcomed back Ms Leanne Haslam to the Admin team as her tenure at Wooloowin SS finished up and Mrs Melinda Spurrell moved to a position closer to home at Mt Crosby SS.
Currently we are still working on finalising staffing for 2022, but I can announce that we have a number of permanent staff transferred into our school for next year. These transfers in will fill positions where teachers have requested transfers and have been successful, teachers retiring, teachers moving to different roles within the Department and also some temporary contracts. These positions have all been filled by teachers entitled to transfer and/or who have completed rural and remote service. As our school is part of a larger organisation, we are not autonomous in our staffing and are part of the state wide transfer system which ensures that staff are able to move between regions and return to preferred areas.
I can announce the following for next year:
- Mr Peter Chinn has been transferred to Grand Avenue SS closer to his home.
- Mrs Mary Fitzgerald and Mrs Tracey Barton have recently or are retiring.
- Mr Mark Schwarten and Ms Melinda Stone will be moving into District Relieving Teacher (DRT) roles within the Region.
- The following teachers have been transferred into Enoggera SS for 2022- Jaime Hall (Torquay SS, Hervey Bay), Amanda Boone (Bardon SS), Linda Hawes (Annandale SS, Townsville), Jason Taylour (Earnshaw State College), Lauren Micelli (Crestmead SS), Jacqueline Egerton (Eimeo Rd, Mackay), Belinda Harris (Edge Hill SS, Cairns)
By next newsletter I will be able to announce which year levels or areas of the school our teachers will be on for 2022.
ARTS ON STAGE
It has been a busy term for our Arts staff and students after a rather long hiatus from performing. They have already been involved in Wakakirri and the 150th Family Fun Day and are now preparing for their final performance at the annual Arts On Stage event.
The Arts On Stage event for all of our performing Arts students and their families, will be held in EPAC on Friday 19th November. This is an opportunity to showcase the program, their skills and to provide the students with another performance opportunity. The evening will commence with an early sausage sizzle for dinner from 5pm with doors open at 6:15pm and the show commencing at 6:30pm. We anticipate the evening will be all finished by 8pm.
To assist with maintaining the facilities and to support our performing arts programs this year, the event must be ticketed due to COVID, we are charging a small ticket price of $5 per ticket or $10 for a family of 4. This will be managed by the P and C through the QKR! app where food can also be purchased.
PREP TRANSITION
Last Friday we held our first Prep transition morning for this year. It was really well attended with most students enrolled for next year in attendance. Thank you to those parents who stayed to attend the information session and we hope that you found the information useful. As most of our enrolled families already participated in the information session last week, next Friday we will not run the session again but instead provide the materials from the session for any families who were not able to attend. We will also have a tea/coffee station available outside EPAC this time and members of the admin team will be available to answer any questions. The uniform shop will open once again from 10:30-12:00pm.
A reminder that students will need to be signed in, labelled and in their groups ready for collection by the Prep teachers at 9am and will be back at EPAC ready for collection at 10:45am. This week there may be some refinement to the groups and there will be different staff members allocated to the groups, so that all staff can have input into the final placements following the transition sessions.
2022 PLACEMENT REQUESTS
Thank you to those parents that completed Class Placement Request forms and who have notified us of their intentions for the 2022 school year, as this will help with staffing and planning for next year. The class allocation process has commenced and this information will be emailed to parents as usual in the last days of the school year.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
