Class News - Prep
Hello from Prep!
It has a very busy start of the school year for our preppies, working very hard to learn the ins and outs of school.
This term for English, we have been looking at traditional stories. Students have been retelling events, connecting personal experiences and practicing their beginning writing skills each week. We are also nearly finished learning all of our Jolly Phonics sounds and letter names. Our focus has been on hearing the sound in a word that is spoken, so we can write the word; and looking at the letters in a word that is written, so we can sound it out and blend the sounds together so we can read. We have begun to learn our tricky words (sight words). In writing we are learning to use our developing sound knowledge to write words and sentences. Our focus when writing is to use a capital letter at the start, spaces between words and putting a full stop at the end, while further developing our formation of letters in handwriting.
In our classrooms, we have our learning walls to help display the steps we need to do to succeed in our assessments in week 7. We are getting prepared by doing these steps for each traditional story in the lead up to our assessment.
Below is our English wall.
In Science we have been looking at different objects and exploring what materials they are made of. We have found out that materials can be natural or man-made and have investigated objects that are made of wood, plastic, fabric, metal and glass, We have explored the special properties that these materials have by doing experiments to test the properties of these objects. Our goal will be to design and make our own wind chime by choosing materials that are durable, water/wind proof and noisy so it can hang outside. Have a look at our learning walls below where we investigate how things feel.
