NAPLAN 2022

The NAPLAN testing for this year is underway with our Yr 3 and Yr 5 students undertaking the Writing test yesterday.  Whilst there were some technical difficulties across the state, we got it done eventually.  We are hoping for a smoother run today as they undertake the Reading test.  The Language Conventions will be on Thursday and the Numeracy on Friday.  If students are absent, we will attempt a catch up session when they return to school next week,  before the close off date.  Thank you to Mrs O’Malley (Head of Department-Curriculum) who is also our NAPLAN Co-ordinator.  It has been a busy time for her ensuring our students and staff are well prepared and also managing the demands of the technology, timetables, rosters and supervision as we continue to work around the COVID absences.  We wish all of our students the very best as they stay calm and give the testing their best shot and demonstrate what they know and can do.

MOTHER’S DAY STALL

We hope that all of our Enoggera Mums had a lovely day on Sunday with their families, as they enjoyed the special presents our students purchased from the P and C Mother’s Day stall last week.  We thank our P and C and the volunteers who organised the day and helped out with the selling.  Many months of planning and preparation goes into these days, so we are very appreciative of the great work they do. There certainly were many very excited children around the school on the day very keen to show their purchases to everyone.  Congratulations also to all of the Mums who were also able to support the P and C Mother’s Day event on Saturday afternoon at Soul Pantry.  It looked like a great afternoon of fun and friendship.

INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC PROGRAM

Congratulations to our Senior Strings Ensemble who played for the first time this year on assembly on Monday afternoon.  Our IM Teacher, Mrs Harle was very impressed with how they performed and we thank her for her efforts. They will be travelling to Everton Park SHS on Monday morning to compete at the Fanfare event. We wish them all the best as they represent our school.

OPEN DAY

We will hold our first Open Day for this year on Wednesday May 25th at 9am in EPAC.  We will present a talk about our school, the enrolment process and also include a tour of the facilities.  Whilst this is aimed at families making a decision for Prep for 2023, it is also open to families of other year levels who may be looking at joining our school community. Please pass this information on to any families that may be considering our wonderful school for their children.

CITY DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY

Some of our students attended the City District Cross Country carnival at Brisbane Grammar School with Mrs Jardine and Mrs Fitzpatrick on Friday 20 April.   As usual our team behaved in an exemplary manner and represented our school with pride.  Big congratulations to Ari who was selected to go through to the Metropolitan North Regional Carnival again after coming 3rd in his 11 yr event.  It was also very exciting to hear that we actually came away as the winners of the ‘C Schools’ Division on the day for the second year in a row and we also came 3rd Overall.  Congratulations to Mrs Jardine for all of her hard work in organising the Inter-House carnival and preparing and organising our team to attend the Districts.

INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATE

The building site is coming along now with the pylons for the building being erected and much of the foundations underway and work starting on the new playground.  We are hopeful that further wet weather will not hold up the proceedings too much.

STUDENT COUNCIL

Our Student Council held their second meeting last week and it was great to see them really hitting their stride as they took on their roles. Heidi, our Vice Captain and Student Council Chairperson, led the meeting and even facilitated a vote of representatives, while our Secretary Savannah took minutes and Lara, the Treasurer gave her first Treasurer’s Report.  The representatives shared their reports from their classes and came up with many worthwhile ideas for discussion. They were very excited to hear they have already raised $320 from the RSL ANZAC Day merchandise sales as their first donation.  They have chosen some very worthwhile events to support and have decided on their legacy to the school.  They will be busily raising money towards some Buddy Benches to go around the school and also some cold-water coolers.  They have decided to support the Down Syndrome Association of Qld as a Queensland charity and also the national ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ to support Childhood Cancer in September.  This term they will also be running a ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ day within the school.  Great work team as it was a pleasure to sit in on the meeting and support the very active and productive discussions. We look forward to the next meeting later in the term.

CROSSING SUPERVISOR

A reminder that the position of the crossing supervisor employed by Department of Transport is currently vacant whilst a recruitment process is being conducted. Unfortunately, this means that our crossing is unmanned before and after school, until they employ and train a new supervisor.  If you know of anyone who might be interested in a little work every morning and afternoon please contact our Business Manager, Ms Haslam via email at lhasl2@eq.edu.au who can provide the application pack. Consequently, we ask all of our families to take care when driving and walking around the crossing area at present whilst it is unmanned.

STAFFING

We thank you for your continued support as we continue to battle staff and student absence due to COVID. In addition to that we also have Ms Hawes (2B Teacher) and Mrs Muston (Teacher Aide) on pre-approved Long Service Leave this week and Mr Colin Callaghan, the School’s Officer is still off work due to injury. We have managed to secure a part time replacement for him in the interim.  Mr Peter Eastes will commence with us today.

Till next time
