Class News - Prep
Hello from Prep!
In English, students have been very engaged with rhyming stories. Our classes have listened to a range of rhyming stories and made lists of rhyming word families. We are now completing our assessments by writing our own rhyming poem with a rhyming. Students have had lots of opportunities to enjoy reading rhymes in stories and looking at different features of a rhyming story and a list. Ihas been a lot of fun.
In Maths. we have been gathering data by asking questions and using tally marks to record the information we have found. In Prep B, the children investigated what fruits that their classmates like to eat for supersnack. They have used the information they collected and shown this data on the interactive whiteboard using people shapes to represent their data.
In Prep C, the children have created a Pizza shop to practice collecting data by asking each other questions about what they want on their pizza. This has been so much fun and children have been rolse play writing. Have a look at the pizza shop in Prep C.
Prep A sociodramatic play has seen us set up a police station. We made a list of the props we needed & made walkie talkies, police badges, notepads & a police car (out of the box for our new air conditioner!) We use our literacy skills to write notes, create maps & draw “Wanted” posters so we can solve crimes. Mrs Nelson was even given a “speeding ticket”.
In Maths students have also been learning the days of the week and thinking about activities that take place on different days. Prep B drew pictures of activities they do each day of the week. We have also done some experiments to investigate activities that take a long time or a short time.
In Science, we have been learning all about the weather! We have been observing different types of weather and have been investigating the activities which we can do when it is hot or cold or rainy. We really enjoyed investigating the clothes that we need to wear when the weather changes. Prep B loved dressing up in clothes to suit different weather.
In HASS we have been investigating the world around us. We have looked at features of places and how we can care for them. Below are some models that Prep C made of their dream house.
It’s exciting to watch as the Preps learn more independence each day as they grow and learn in preparation for their transition into Year 1 next year.
