Well, we have made it! Final Week of 2022 and what an amazing year it has been.

A late start to the school year – caused the District Swimming Carnival to be blended into the regional carnival, where a smaller than normal contingent of students competed. Wet weather then created havoc with our plans for the School Cross Country causing it to be rescheduled into Term 2, just a matter of days before the District Cross Country.

By this stage our oval had been reduced to next to nothing as the new buildings started to take shape. We battled on in the sporting front – continuing to be challenged by weather and small spaces to have our School Track and Field Carnivals late in Term 2 at Mt Maria Playing Fields.  In term 3 – a number of students competed at the City District Track and Field Carnival with a handful being successful in making it through to the regional carnival. This was especially sweet as there has been full District Track and Field Carnival since 2018. (National Title in the NT in 2019 and Covid in 2020 and 2021 preventing the carnivals from taking place.)

We also managed to squeeze some practice in for the Annual Volleyball Queensland’s Primary School Cup. Enoggera entered 8 teams this year with two teams coming home with medals – one silver and one bronze.  For the rest there were still some pretty impressive results and a lot of improvement on the day. (Enoggera also holds a reputation of being the school when it comes to enjoying the live music at the event and dancing to our favourite – YMCA.)

In term 4, the year 5 & 6 students headed off for three Fridays to participate in Gala Sports playing either touch or T20 (Cricket). Despite having to reschedule one day due to wet weather, we managed to get three whole weeks of competition done something that hasn’t happened for several years (thank you covid and unpredictable weather). While our Year 5 & 6 students were at Gala Sport our Year 3 & 4 students were busy learning the skills of the three representative sports (touch, cricket, and volleyball) back at school in some skills acquisition sessions.

We finished the term with our swimming carnivals – the Senior Carnival happening on Wednesday 30th November.  Despite the constant threat of rain and lower than average temperatures we managed to complete the bulk of the events on the day.  A few events sadly, however, were cancelled due to the temperature as the day progressed.

  • Congratulations to Banksia for taking the win.

The Prep to year 2 carnival was postponed from Thursday 1st December to Wednesday 7th December due to our rather unseasonal start to the summer season.  We are hoping the weather will be kinder to us on the 7th.

In other sporting competition – Congratulations to Alexis T who competed in the Qld State Relay Championships at the State Athletics Facility last weekend.

So now its time to close off not only for the year, but to also say ‘farewell’ and ‘thank you’ for the last few wonderful years where I have had the privilege to working with not only the students and staff but a number of families in and around the sporting arena.  Thank you for your support where needed and the opportunity to work with your wonderful children. I look forward to hearing of their successes in the future and will be looking out for friendly faces at the various sporting events I attend.

I also want to wish the Year 6’s well as they begin their new journey at High School.  While the ESS chapter is now all but complete, they have an amazing new chapter in their life just beginning.

For Mrs Prill – we wish her all the best for 2023 and hope she enjoys her change (even if only for a short time).

Farewell ESS and Thank you for being part of my journey.
