BEFORE SCHOOL REMINDERS
A friendly reminder to parents, that students are not permitted on school grounds prior to 8:15am in the morning unless they are attending OHSC. There are an increasing number of students arriving prior to 8am to meet up with friends. There are no staff on supervision duty until 8:15am, so for safety we request that students avoid arriving prior to this time. Thanks for your support with this.
Kilometre Club will continue to be held on Monday, Tuesday and Friday mornings with Mr Woodrick from 8:30am. Students from Years 3-6 are collected from under D Block. This is a great opportunity for our students to do some training in preparation for the cross country on Monday 27th March.
Front Gate
There has been a big improvement in the closing of the front gate. Thanks to students and parents for remembering to shut the gate to keep our students safe!
You will notice that Term Two events will start to be posted on our Facebook Page in the coming weeks. A reminder that you can see upcoming events at any time by clicking on the ‘Events’ tab at the top of our FB page. In the interest of privacy, we ask that parents do not refer to students by name on the FB page in the comment section. Thanks for your ongoing support of our school FB page.
Stop, Drop and Go
If there are car parks available, we ask that parents park in the marked car park spaces rather than along the stop, drop and go zone when dropping off and collecting students from OHSC. Parked cars in this area makes it very difficult for staff and other parents to reverse out safely to exit the car park. It also hinders the ability to clearly see students in this area making it unsafe. Thanks for your attention to this safety concern.
Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars including Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around Being Respectful with a focus on speaking to others with care. All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school. The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
This term, the Student Council has organised to fundraise for the Down Syndrome Association with a “Lots of Socks” Day. Students are invited to wear crazy socks to school on Tuesday 21st March and bring a gold coin donation. The Student Council is also reintroducing ‘Wrapper Free Wednesday’ in an attempt to reduce waste generated by our school. The students voted to purchase a Buddy Bench with the money raised by the Student Council last year as their legacy item.
Easter Bonnet Parade
The Preps and Year 1s will participate in an Easter Bonnet Parade on the last day of the term, Friday 31st March from 9:00am. Parents/carers are welcome to attend. Bonnets will be made by teachers at school for this event. The location is still be confirmed but it will be on site at ESS. We look forward to a lovely end of the term with our Easter Bonnet Parade.
