LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING PROGRAM
The Learning Curve focus this week for students is from the ‘Engagement and Mindfulness’ category. The wellbeing skill builder is Grit Pathways. Grit Pathways can be developed in your brain to help you achieve something you are passionate about, these pathways also assist you to overcome obstacles along the way. This focusses on using your strengths to create these pathways in your brain, which helps you to feel confident to attack challenges to achieve your goals.
Our students are working on this topic during their Health lessons and then following up with their class teachers as well as using their ESS Learning Curve diaries. The parent article regarding this topic is attached for your information.
STRINGS FANFARE
It was great last week to attend the Strings Fanfare at Lawnton State School to see our Junior and Senior Strings Ensembles perform. This event is held every two years and bands and ensembles are compared to standards to achieve levelled awards rather than competing against each other. Our Senior Strings came away with the top award - Platinum and our Junior Strings with the next one which was the Gold Award. This was a outstanding effort for their first event of the year.
Well done to our Strings students and many thanks to Miss Kirk for the great work in preparing them for the event. Not only did they play well but they looked very professional, in their new Performing Arts Polos. We had many comments from other schools on the shirts and the overall presentation of our students.
Thank you also to the parents who were able to drive the students to the event and help out with supervision during the morning. We look forward to hearing the same repertoire at the Winter Soire on Thursday evening along with all of our other Performing Arts groups and ensembles.
READER’S CUP COMPETITION
Today we have two teams of students attending the Readers Cup competition for Brisbane North at Kurwongbah State School. Our teams have been working hard all term in readiness for the big day. These students have studied five books and know them inside out as they have created questions and tested each other on the books. All the best to Adelyn, Ella, Kai, Matias, Zoe, Natalie, Vishnu, Jamie and Rose as they chase the success from last year where we brought home both 1st and 2nd place on the day. Whatever the outcome, I am sure they will do their best and represent ESS with pride. Thank you to Mrs O’Malley for all of her work in preparing them and also to the parents who have offered to assist with transportation to the event.
END OF TERM EVENTS
As we come into the end of the semester, we are not only being kept busy through final semester assessments and reporting ready for reports to be emailed home on Thursday of the last week of term, but we also have a couple of other big events coming up before the end of this term.
These include the Winter Soire this week, our Junior and Senior Sports Days in Week 9, our Principal’s assembly and our Under 8s day on the last day of term.
209-211 STH PINE ROAD
Whilst the boom gate is still to be installed, the temporary staff carpark is open for use by ESS staff only. This means that staff will no longer be parking in the Church carpark. The Church have asked that school parents using the Church carpark ensure they are parking along the school fence line rather than in the parks closest to the Kindy and Church.
PREP OPEN DAY
We will hold another Prep Open Day in Term 3 on Friday the 26th of July, before our Prep Enrolment Interviews start at the end of Term 3 and beginning of Term 4. The Prep Transition and Information sessions in Term 4 will be held on November 1st and 15th. We will then hold our final roll up afternoon for new Preps for 2025, this will be held on December 11th.
If you know of families who live in our catchment and are hoping to come here next year, please let them know of the next Open Day in Term 3. Families who have made their decision can drop in enrolment forms to the office at any stage to enable us to get them on the system and into the communication channels for next year.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal

Our school has a very active Facebook page with frequent posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. To find our events, simply click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events.
If you have a Facebook page, we encourage all of our parents to follow our school page so you can enjoy the wonderful experiences our school has to offer. The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office.
Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate comments will be removed from the platform. Please remember to never make comments on the page referencing a child’s name for privacy reasons.
Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars include Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around safety at lunch time focusing on playing tiggy.
The Pillar Practice specifically addresses areas of concern for safety where students are playing tiggy games including under buildings, on concrete, through soccer games and on the playgrounds. In particular students are running up the grandstand and through the railings which is very unsafe. Students are being reminded of the correct areas to play tiggy. Students were taught on assembly that this is the focus behaviour for the remainder of the term and that any continued incidents of running in the wrong areas, will result in being ‘red carded’ for unsafe play. This system is in place for rough play in soccer as well and works well to manage this behaviour of concern.
All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school. The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
School Dress Code

Please ensure your children are wearing the correct jumper to school during the cooler months. Parents are asked to please follow our school Dress Code that requires students either wear the school jacket, or a plain blue jumper. Blue jumpers with printed designs, colour jumpers and hoodies are not permitted.
Students not wearing the correct jumper will be directed to the office to borrow a correct jumper for the day. Girls are permitted to wear navy tights. As these are difficult to find, they are also permitted to wear black tights.
Blue tracksuit pants are also suitable for both boys and girls to wear with their polo shirt. This Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference.Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
Student Council
A reminder that the Student Council is planning another Meal Deal fundraiser for Monday 10th June in Week 9 with money raised going towards their legacy item. Flyers were sent home last week with a QR code for easy ordering of your sushi. Orders close on Friday this week.
Book Swap
Also, this term, a “Book Swap” in which students are permitted to bring a maximum of 3 books from home that they don’t want anymore to school to swap. Each swap costs the students a gold coin. In swapping their book, we raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and our students get to take up to three different books home for some holiday reading. This will be held on Wednesday 19th June at both breaks in the library. Students are invited to bring their book/s to school and drop them into the library on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before school in the library with their gold coin for each book. Their name will be added to a swap list. They will then be invited back to the library and first and/or second break on Wednesday 19th June to swap their books.
The second fundraiser is for the Student Council legacy item, and the students have decided to have a Crazy Socks and Sunnies dress up day. Students are asked to donate a gold coin donation to the Student Council on Thursday 20th June.
Last week, the Student Council implemented their wellbeing initiative. Each class was provided with a pinwheel and brainstormed aspects of our school that they are grateful for. The teachers wrote their gratitude statements on each leaf of the pinwheel with their class name in the middle. These were presented on assembly this week, and will be planted in the garden beds on the AstroTurf for staff, students, parents and visitors to read and enjoy. Expressing gratitude is an excellent way to boost morale and the wellbeing!
Sport
Both the Junior Tabloid Sports and the Senior Athletics Carnival are being held next week. Tabloid Sports will be held at Enoggera State School oval on Thursday 13 June from 9am – 12pm for Prep to Year 2. Senior Athletics will be held on Friday 14 June at the Mt Maria playing fields with the students walking to the grounds from school.

On Wednesday 22 May Enoggera State School participated in the National Simultaneous Storytime 2024 in the library. This year we listened to an audio reading of Bowerbird Blues written by Aura Parker. Afterwards we had lots of fun completing find a puzzles to locate hidden items from the book.
Semester One Reporting
Just a reminder that Week 8 and Week 9 attendance at school is extremely important as students are being provided with final opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of Term Two learning. Term One and Two student data will be analysed and reviewed by teachers to provide parents with detailed, on balance judgements outlining how students are progressing with year level curriculum expectations for Semester One. Report Cards will be distributed on Thursday 20 June (Week 10) from 3pm. Please note that emails are sent by: Application.ONESCHOOL@qed.qld.gov.au
Just a reminder that adding this address to your list of safe senders will ensure that your report card emails for your child/children will be received and not sent to your junk folder. If your email details have recently changed please ensure that this information is provided to Administration by Thursday 6th June (Week 8) to ensure this information can be updated in our system.
Semester 2 Parent Teacher Interviews
Semester Two Parent Teacher Interviews are being conducted in EPAC on Tuesday 16th July (Week 2) from 3:15pm – 7:35pm. Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Please find below my updates for this coming fortnight.
GENERAL FINANCE
Just a reminder that full payment on the below activities is due soon. Please note if full payment and the online consent form isn’t received by the due date students will unfortunately not be able to attend. If you require financial assistance, please contact bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au to arrange a payment plan.

Just letting all parents and carers know, invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolment and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only one paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you would like more information around this please email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online.
We strongly recommend all parents sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the schools’ happenings. Starting from Term 3, a new process will be starting through QParents, where consents will be sent out prior to an excursion/incursion.
Once the consent has been granted then families will be invoiced. This ensures that only families that are consenting to excursions are invoiced to stop the double up on invoicing. If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly.
ENROLMENTS FOR 2025
We are accepting applications for enrolment from families who are interested in their child commencing PREP at Enoggera State School in 2025.
Children born between 1 July 2019 and 30 June 2020 are eligible to start school in 2025.
For families residing in our school catchment (use this link to check your address: https://www.qgso.qld.gov.au/maps/edmap/) we require an Application for Student Enrolment form and 2 documents such as a lease or rates notice and an electricity or gas bill to confirm your address.
Expressions of Interest from families residing outside our catchment area are welcome, although we are not expecting to have many vacancies next year due to catchment management restrictions.
MEDICAL DETAILS AND MEDICATION
A reminder to parents and caregivers, that all students requiring medication at school must have a current Action Plan if it is for Anaphylaxis, Asthma or Allergies.
The school also requires you to sign a Consent to Administer Medication form to give us permission to administer student medication. Students who are able to administer their own medication, such as Ventolin, also need permission from their parent/caregiver which then needs to be approved by the Principal.
It is important that students do not carry over the counter medication in their bags, such as Panadol, Nurofen or cough mixtures as these can sometimes end up in the wrong place. For safety reasons, the school must be informed if any student is carrying medication in their school bag.
All medicines must be labelled with the child’s name and correct dose required.
If you have any questions regarding the medication procedure please contact the administration office on 3550 1333.
SPARE UNIFORMS AND UNDERWEAR
Another quick reminder that it is important that all Year 1 and prep students have spare clothes packed in their bags including underwear. We request this just in case a student has an accident throughout the day. If you have a child that has recently borrowed clothing from the office, could you please urgently return these spares and replacement underwear to the office as we have very low spare clothes. We are also happy to accept donations of underwear due to these not being returnable.
Have a fantastic fortnight!

We have enjoyed more learning experiences this term as a Year 3 team together. This started with our excursion to the Planetarium. Dodging rain, we were able to put our super sleuth skills to work as we completed a scavenger hunt in the gardens. We then viewed a demonstration of the Earth’s rotation which gives rise to day and night.
We were able to view the sky (as seen from Brisbane) and see what it looks like when transitioning from day into night. Our group was then lifted off the planet and viewed Earth from space where the daytime side and the night time sides were clearly seen miraculously from our seats. We were then able to witness the Earth rotating and that the sun indeed does not move, it is the Earth that is moving.
Problem Solving has become a fun time as we share different ways of solving number stories and sharing our secrets with others to share. Pirate day was also a fun day with plenty of ‘Argh’s’, ‘Ahoy me hearties’ and ‘Walk the plank’ jokes being shared amongst the crew.
Finally, we have just created our own little shop in our break out room where many bargains, special offers and good ol’ fashioned service can be found. This store does not take any electronic transfers – only CASH! Our goals included making amounts of money in various ways, adding up 2 or more amounts and of course calculating change.

Sustainability
Thanks to the tuckshop for using the lettuces (and soon there will be tomatoes) from the school garden. The data we gather will be the subject of Semester 2 Digital Technologies.
Health and Safety
All students are reminded that they can only use school technology equipment according to teacher directions.
In Semester 2, we shall be inviting frequent lunchtime computer room visitors to play outside, away from electronic devices.
Coding Club
On Wednesdays the Years 4-7 Coding Club will be finalising their entries for the Premier’s Coding Challenge, completing the Minecraft building challenge or preparing for the next Bebras Challenge. If we practise early enough with Bebras, we shall certainly have a greater proportion of our students being awarded Merit and Highly Accomplished Certificates in the upcoming October Round.
RoboCup
We have some truly dedicated students who rehearse twice a week for the August Tournament. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the RoboCup students again this year. At this stage we shall only be selecting one team for the August State Competition at the University of Queensland. Students must have their robots, music, performance routines and costumes ready by week 10.

Firstly, a big thank you to teachers and families following up with hats for their students in PE lessons. There has been a marked difference of hats on heads. Well done!
Another thanks to Scott from Slice Tennis who has been working with the year 5 and 6 students on their tennis skills over the last 3 weeks. We will run 1 more session in Term 3, however there has been some real improvement in the students over the short time. Please visit www.slicetennis.com.au for any details on programs available.
Here are some pictures of the sessions.
Students are also encouraged to register for an in-school tennis competition starting in Term 3. We will be crowning the best ESS tennis player. Who will it be???

The Prep to Year 2 students will have their events (running and tabloid games) on the school oval on Thursday 13th June from 9am to 12noon. The Year 3 to 6 Students high jump final (PE lesson time has been used to finalise the participants) is scheduled for the afternoon of 13th June on the school oval.
The senior carnival (800m, 100m, 200m, shot put, long jump) will be held on Friday 14th June at the Mt Maria Playing Fields at the end of Mott and Lade Streets, Enoggera.
Junior Carnival – this is for Prep to Year 2 students. Please note all times are subject to change.
- 9.00am: Sprints to commence for Year 2, then Year 1, then Prep when they arrive.

Senior Carnival – this is for students in Year 3 – 6 and will be for the whole day. Students will walk to and from the venue – permission notes have gone out and are due back to school on Wednesday 12th June. Remember, if no permission, students will remain at school.
Please note, all sprint race heats will be timed and winners will be selected once all the heats are completed. Winner of a heat is not necessarily the winner for the event. This is due to time constraints on the day.
