Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING PROGRAM
The Learning Curve focus this week is from the ‘Engagement and Mindfulness’ category and the wellbeing skill builder is ‘not getting started’ or ‘procrastination’ which can cause issues with getting things done by a deadline.
Students are working on this topic during their Health lessons and then following up with their class teachers as well as using their ESS Learning Curve diaries. The parent article re this topic is attached for your information.
‘GIANTS IN THE SKY’ MUSICAL
I must say our first ever whole school musical ‘Giants in the Sky’ was a fantastic success thanks to the talent and dedication of Mrs Rees and Miss Dunstan and our amazingly talented students who starred across the four performances in our very own EPAC. It was wonderful to see some usually quiet students come out of their shells and audition for lead rolls or join the ensembles to be part of this event. Much thanks to everyone else who helped out in a myriad of ways-from staff who helped out and parents who helped with learning lines, songs and dances to costuming, props and sets etc.
It was a wonderful example of how the Enoggera State School community can pull together to shine. To almost fill the four shows over the Thursday, Friday and Saturday was testament to the supportive community we have here at ESS. The takings from the ticket sales will be used to further develop our Performing Arts programs and also for maintenance and upgrades to EPAC which is beginning to show signs of wear and tear.
PREP 2025 ENROLMENT MEETINGS
A reminder that our 2025 Prep Enrolment Interviews are underway over the last three weeks of this term and the beginning of Term 4. These will be followed by our Prep Transition and Information sessions in Term 4 on November 1 and 15 from 9-11am and then our final roll up afternoon in week 10 of Term 4 on December 4.
The SOBS link to book enrolment interviews is below and information has also been emailed out to the Prep 2025 mailing list. Bookings are open now and will remain open until 24hrs prior to each booking date.
https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70109
If you know of families who live in our catchment and are planning to come here next year, please let them know of the Enrolment meetings coming up, where enrolments for next year are finalised and important information gathered to inform Prep class placements. Families who have made their decision can drop in enrolments forms to the office at any stage to enable us to get them on the system and into the communication channels for next year.
STUDENT FREE DAY
A reminder that this Friday is a Student Free Day and that Camp Australia will be operating. Our Schools Officer and Cleaners will be on site but our Teachers and Support staff have already completed their PD hours for the year through twilight sessions and therefore will not be on site.
STUDENT COUNCIL MAJOR FUNDRAISER
Our Student Council have planned their major fundraiser for this year and that is to be a Spell-a-thon followed by a Spelling Bee competition. The idea is that students will be provided with a list of 50 spelling words appropriate to their year level from the Australian Curriculum to learn. They will find sponsors per word correct eg. 5c/word. They will then be tested on the words in class to get their score to work out how much money to collect from their sponsors.
After the Spell-a-thon the classes will choose their class spelling champion who will then play off to find the champion speller in the year level. The Spelling Bee Competition will be held in EPAC where the year level champions play off against each other word for word using year level differentiated lists to determine our ESS Spelling Bee Champion for 2024. Because the lists are differentiated the winner could be from any year level as it is based on an elimination style competition where they are eliminated if they get a word incorrect.
Our Student Council look forward to our community getting behind this event to help them to raise money for their legacy item for this year. They are still deciding as to whether to purchase another table tennis table for the students to allow more students to play each day or to get a cold-water bubbler to fill up drink bottles or maybe both depending on how much they raise. Not only will there be financial gain, but this should help to put a spotlight on the importance of being good at spelling.
Letters will go out to all families this week with a sponsorship card and the spelling lists for students to commence getting sponsors or donations. All information will be explained in the letter.
STAFFING
Our School’s Officer Colin Callaghan will be starting at a new school next term. He has been at ESS for 16 years but has accepted a change to see out the rest of his career closer to home. If you see Mr Colin around the school before the break, please thank him for this hard work and dedication to the ESS school community over many years. We are currently recruiting through Smart Jobs for a permanent replacement to start early in Term 4.
Next term Mrs Amanda Boone will be on leave and will be replaced on 1B by Mr Luke Giblin. Mr Giblin will be in before the holidays to ensure a thorough handover of the class for Term 4, so that he can hit the ground running.
I will be on long service leave for the last two weeks of this term returning to work for the start of Term 4. I wish everyone a happy holiday and look forward to seeing everyone when I return from Japan. Mrs Tina Burrows will be Acting Principal in my absence.
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
School Closed - Friday 30th August for a departmental Student Free Day.
Note: Last day of Term 3 - Friday 13 September
Dress Code and Lost Property
There are still numerous students attending school not wearing the correct school shoes and socks. Students are not permitted to wear coloured shoes to school – the dress code specifies black shoes and white socks. The laces on black school shoes should also be black please. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code. If your children have misplaced items of clothing, the lost property is located under A Block near the uniform shop. Please remember to label on your child’s clothing to make it easier to locate it when it is lost.

Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. Click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events. You will notice that the Term 4 events will start to be posted soon.
The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.
Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars include Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is, ‘when the bell rings remember these three simple things…’
- Walk back to your line up area from play – it is not a race!
- Have a drink and go to the toilet before you go to back into class
- Sit quietly in your lines while waiting for your teacher
All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school. The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
Please remember to place your order for the Subway Meal Deal being held next Monday 2nd September.
The Charity being supported by the Student Council this term is the National Endagered Species Foundation. Students will be able to bring their favourite stuffed animal to school on Friday 6th September and donate a gold coin to this charity.
There will be another Student Council meeting next week on Friday 6th of September to discuss plans for the Student Council events in Term 4.
Thank you for your support of the Student Council.
Front Garden
With the reintroduction of Frozen Friday in Term 4, we ask parents to please monitor your children after school in the front garden and under buildings. Students are not permitted to run on the concrete, ride scooters/bikes in the school grounds or kick balls around the buildings. Also, please ensure that students are not running through the front gardens or walking along the garden wall as some of the bricks are becoming unstable. We love to see families enjoying the Frozen Fridays, but please help us to ensure it is safe for all.
Maths Tournament
On Monday, Mrs Burrows and Miss Dowling took 10 students (a Year 5 Team and a Year 6 Team) to the District Maths Tournament held at Albany Hills State School. Although we didn’t earn a place, the students worked very hard in their teams on a variety of maths problem solving questions both in a team event and a relay event. These students were selected on their academic achievements in NAPLAN and their report cards and were great representatives for our school.
Year 4 MADD Day
On Thursday 5th September 2024, Everton Park State High School will again host its annual Music, Art, Drama and Dance (MADD) Day, which is a chance for primary and secondary staff and Year 4 students to collaborate artistically. The activities will commence at 9am with specialist workshops in Visual Art, Dance, Drama and Music. Students will harness their creative energies, while developing communication and interpersonal skills in a group environment. These will run until 12pm. Students will then break for lunch. After lunch, along with high school student performance, students will showcase their creations with their peers. The day will end at 2pm with students walking back to school. We know they will all have a great time with their teachers!

Book Week 2024
Book Week 2024 really was magic at Enoggera State School! Many of our students joined in the daily celebrations occurring in the library including VIP Reading and art and craft activities. A lot of fun was had by all!
Premiers Reading Challenge 2024
A big congratulations to all students who took part and completed the Premiers Reading Challenge for 2024. All student information has now been collected and provided to the department and students will be receiving their certificates in mid October.
Nudgee Beach Prep Excursion
Prep A, Prep B and Prep C will be attending the Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre on Thursday 12th September to observe and explore living things in a marine beach environment. This is an all day activity. Payments for attendance need to be finalised through QParents by Thursday 5th September. Late payments cannot be accepted.
Library Upgrades
The library and computer lab will be receiving an upgrade with a full interior paint during the school holidays. To ensure that resources are adequately prepared, students will need to return all library books in Week 9. The library will be offline to students at lunchtimes in Week 10 and Term 4, Week 1. We are hoping the library will then be reopen in Week 2 of Term 4.
BOOK CLUB Issue 6:
Just a reminder that Issue 6 book club orders are due by Friday 30th August. Orders can only be made through the online LOOP service via the URL:

Mrs Amy O'Malley
Head of Department, Curriculum
Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Please find below my updates for this coming fortnight.

Just a reminder that full payment on the below activities is due soon. Please note if full payment and the online consent form isn’t received by the due date, students will unfortunately not be able to attend. Late payments and consents cannot be accepted.
If you are having financial difficult and require financial assistance, please contact bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au to arrange a payment plan.

YEAR 4, MADD DAY at Everton Park State High School
Consents through Q Parents are also due by next Tuesday the 3rd of September. There is no fee associated with this activity so please ensure you complete your QParents consents, to ensure your student/s can attend.
INVOICES AND QPARENTS
Just letting all parents and carers know, invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolment and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only one paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you would like more information around this please email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online.
We strongly recommend all parents to sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the schools’ happenings. Starting from term 3, a new process will be starting through QParents, consents will be sent out prior to an excursion/incursion. Once the consent has been granted then families will be invoiced. This ensures that only families that are consenting to excursions are invoiced to stop the double up on invoicing. If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly.
SPARE UNIFORMS AND UNDERWEAR
It is important that all year 1 and prep students have spare clothes packed in their bags including underwear. We request this just in case a student has an accident throughout the day. If you have a child that has recently borrowed clothing from the office, could you please urgently return these spares and replacement underwear to the office as we have very low spare clothes. We are also happy to accept donations of underwear due to these not being returnable – we cannot accept already used and washed underwear.
STOP DROP AND GO ZONE – 285 South Pine Road
The stop, drop and go zone is monitored each morning and each afternoon by a staff member. The correct procedure for this area is to drive up to the gate where the staff member is standing who will assist the safety of your student/s out of the car and on to the school grounds. Please do not stop half way and try and help your student out of the car at the first gate closest to the OSHC and Administration. If you do stop at the first gate, this causes a ripple effect in cars backing up and blocking the school entry and affecting the school crossing. Please follow the directions of the staff member to ensure the smooth transition of cars during these busy times.
Brisbane City Council has been advised of illegal street parking in the area and people not following the stop drop and go sign rules. Vehicles must not be left in this area at any time. If you require additional time to unload your student/s in the morning please ensure you’re a parking in a street park and walking up to the school. Alternatively, we have a stop drop and go zone located on Laurel Street, which is also monitored daily by a staff member. The same rules apply. Thank you for your understanding with this matter.
Have a fantastic fortnight.

In Year 4 we are enjoying our weekly problem-solving lessons and being able to apply these learnt strategies in solving various mathematical problems. Our teachers explicitly teach us different strategies where we use our see, plan, do/check placemats. We then often work in groups which gives us the opportunity to engage in skills critical for processing information, evaluating and solving problems.
One aspect that we are still working on is our group management skills and skills involved in assessing options to make decisions about our groups’ final answer – this can be challenging at times if we don’t agree on an answer!
We often resort to our known (and well-practiced!) strategies of using an operation or number sentence, our MAD triangles (Multiplication and Division) and part-part whole (especially as we start using larger numbers) but we are branching out to other strategies like drawing a diagram or constructing a table to help us solve more complex problems successfully.
Environmental Sustainabilty
This Term and again in Term 4, in Digital Technologies, the students are studying environmental sustainability. Over the next few months we shall be gathering and assessing garden data, building feral animal traps and coding automatic “weed zappers”.
We shall also be propagating tulipwood tree seeds in the garden, once all vegetables are distributed and the soil is prepared.
There will be a little break over the next two weeks when we return to Paris for the Paralympics.
Vegetable Garden Harvests
Currently the school veggie garden is going “gang-busters” with amazing vegetable harvests every day. We have already proved that we have easily covered the costs of fertiliser, seedlings, irrigation system and water. See the photos above just from this week’s harvest.
There are a LOT of gourmet tomatoes yet to be harvested and distributed! To receive your share, send in your recyclable shopping bags ASAP with name and grade to the School Administration or straight to Mr Harris (Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays).

Tennis
We have had a delayed start to the tennis competition with bad weather and our school musical making it a little difficult to schedule the draws.
Good news however, as we will be starting Tuesday and Wednesday this week and then Tuesday and Thursday for the remainder of the term providing, we get some good weather.
Look out for the results and photos.
Swimming
We will be returning to the pool for our PE lessons in Term 4. Please keep an eye out for notes over the next week or so with days of lessons and times where you may be asked to help if you have a little one in Prep to Year 2.
With the holidays just around the corner it is a good time to make sure that your student – not only has everything they need for swimming but that they also fit and are ready to go.
- Swimming Bag (suitable to hold all swimming gear and uniforms when in the pool).
- Swimmers (please avoid cross overs straps for our younger students if possible, they can cause difficulties when getting changed for our little ones.)
- Towel
- Swimming Cap (COMPULSORY)
- Sunsafe Shirt (this may be either a rash vest or a T-shirt)
- Goggles (Recommended)
- Plastic Bag to carry wet swim wear after lessons.

Hello Brisbane Schools and Families,
Brisbane Festival is committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible celebration of arts and culture. This September, we're proud to present a program that will inspire audiences with new ideas and experiences that leave life-long impressions.
Fancy Long Legs. Ages 3-8 years. 12-22 Sep. La Boite Theatre.
A groundbreaking, fully accessible work for young audiences and the young at heart. The show has been created with accessibility at its core to ensure the theatre experience is welcoming, safe and inclusive for all.
Lighting the Dark. All ages. 12-14 Sep. Thomas Dixon Centre.
A bold new work by Chris Dyke, a Kaurna (Adelaide) based dancer and choreographer living with Down Syndrome. With the mesmerising Dancenorth Ensemble by his side, Chris leads the way, transforming the stage into a portal where love and light illuminate darkness.
We also invite you to bring your family along to sing, dance and connect at our free Brisbane Serenades outdoor concerts.
Hope to see you at the festival!
Did you watch the 800 metres Track and Field and see Peyton Craig in the Olympics onThursday evening 8 August?:
I wanted to let you know about something awesome we are doing here at Official School wear – our Scholarships For Dreams competition.
We are so proud of being a small part of Peytons journey to the Olympics. They say that the first step in achieving something amazing is to first conceive and believe you can achieve.
Scholarships for dreams was founded to follow the philosophy of Barry Berghan who believes that we all must have a dream. That we all need to support and encourage each other with positivity and energy and that the best thing we ever do is to give to help others achieve.
So, please pass this around to all the students of your school community and invite them to send in their BIG dreams as they expect great things!
Here is a link to the site where they can enter https://scholarshipsfordreams.com/
