Last Day of Term 3 |
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE
This week the Learning Curve focus is from the ‘Engagement and Mindfulness’ category. The wellbeing skill builder is ‘’Missing Out’ for Prep to Year 2 students and ‘Joy of Missing Out’ for the Year 3 to 6 classes. The topic this week is about understanding that by being happy with who they are, and believing in themselves as young people who matter, their challenge is to use Joy Of Missing Out (JOMO) to stay that way.
Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) can be overcome by teaching students about the wonderful uplifting feelings that they will experience when they use JOMO to significantly reduce their screen time.
These concepts were introduced in the Health lessons with Miss Dunstan this week and will be followed up in classrooms. Our Year 3 to 6 students continue to track their progress in their Learning Curve diaries. The parent newsletter is attached below.

Mrs Donagh McKenzie (Success Teacher for 5/6) continues Long Service Leave until August 19. Teacher Aide, Mrs Ainsley Butwell continues her long service leave for the rest of the term. Miss Tamara Dowling (5/6C) will be on long service leave from August 25 for the remainder of the term. Both she and Mrs McKenzie are being backfilled by Eliza Kelly during this time. Mrs Andrea Moeser will be on long service leave from September 1 for the rest of the term and will be continuing for 3 weeks into Term 4. Mrs Belinda Harris will be on long service leave in the last week of term and Miss Sarah Dionysius will be on leave in the last week of term for her wedding. Our Guidance Officer Leanne Watson will also be on long service leave in the last two weeks of this term.
NEW BUILDING
We were recently advised that we have been successful in securing an additional building for next year due to catchment enrolment growth. We met with the DoE infrastructure team and contractors onsite last week to discuss the new addition.
The new building will be a permanent pre-fabricated building (as below) which will be craned onto the oval between G Block and the Junior playground, so as to minimise further loss of greenspace for play areas. The building will have a permanent ramp and covered way linking it to the G Block lift well and also a ramp adjoining the stairs to E Block on the other side. The building will face G Block in front of the staff room and sandpit. The new building will include two classrooms, a teacher planning area and breakout space as well as the verandah outside (similar to the other demountable we had on the heritage listed wall). The new block will be named H Block.
Preliminary works and planning have commenced with a date for the installation still to be determined early next term, to allow for it to be moved into prior to the end of the year.
We have also had approval for the new Prep playground to be installed on the grass are in front of the pool. The winning tenderers, Adventure Plus playgrounds are also in early planning with an installation date still to be advised next term. The new playground design is below for your information.
PREP ENROLMENTS
A further reminder that if you know of families who live in our catchment and are planning to come here next year, please remind them to submit their enrolment paperwork as we will commencing the Prep Enrolment Interviews from September 1. Bookings for Prep enrolment interviews are currently open via SOBS. The interviews can be booked at the following link:
https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70109
The information below demonstrates how to book an interview spot.
Unfortunately, any out-of-catchment enrolments can only be considered after these interviews and in-catchment enrolment numbers are confirmed.
OPINION SURVEY
A reminder that all parents should have received a direct link to their email box to conduct the DoE School Opinion Survey for this year. The survey links are individual links and are open until August 22. The data from these surveys is collated by the DoE and shared with schools at the end of the year to inform planning for the following school year.
DANCE AND VOCAL PERFORMANCE TEAMS
Our Dance Performance Team had their final competition for the year recently at the Beenleigh Eisteddfod where they performed credibly again with excellent scores and results. They scored 92 marks for the Jazz routine ‘Respect’ and came 3rd and they scored a massive 92.5 marks for the Contemporary dance ‘Ashes’ but finished out of the placings. Congratulations to Miss Dunstan and the DPT for their wonderful success this year at their first Eisteddfods and competitions.
A reminder that our Vocal team will attend Singfest for a workshop on 28 August. Our Junior Strings students will attend a workshop also from 1 to 2 September.
STUDENT FREE DAY
A reminder that as per the DoE school calendar the September Student Free Day is coming up on September 5. As our staff have already completed their professional development requirements in twilight PD due to this being a flexible day, our school will be closed on this day. OSHC will operate as per normal SFD on this day.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
At present there has been an increased number of students bringing mobile phones and/or personal technology devices to school. In accordance with our Student Code of Conduct students are to adhere to the following rules and procedures:
A failure for students to comply with the Student Use of mobile Devices procedure and our student code of conduct may result in confiscation of property and disciplinary consequences may be applied.
The Enoggera State School student code of conduct can be found on the school website.
BEFORE SCHOOL PROCESSES
- All Parents are asked to wait with their children under C Block only (Prep Wing) before school. Students should be sitting with their parents at this time.
- All students without parent supervision are to sit and wait under D Block where they will be supervised by school staff from 8:15 – 8:45am.
- Students under their parent supervision are to remain seated and not play under C Block, A Block or in the Prep – Two Playspace.
- We kindly ask that parents do not wait under E Block as this is the thoroughfare to the boys’ toilets and a handball area, and easier to monitor with no parents and students waiting in this area.
- From 8:30am students under D Block staff supervision are permitted to play handball or skip on the AstroTurf if they choose, except on Tuesday when there is breakfast club.
- When the bell rings at 8:45am, all students are asked to put equipment away and return to under D Block. The staff on duty will then walk each year level to their line up areas.
- When the bell rings at 8:45am, Students are to move to their designated line up areas. Parents are asked to leave the site at this time.
StOP, DROP and GO
A friendly reminder to parents that to ensure the Stop, Drop and Go Zone at South Pine Road (in the car park) is successful, it is essential that drivers proceed all the way to the first gate closest to the library. Parents are unable to leave their vehicles in this area to walk their students into under the buildings as it causes congestion to the flow of traffic and becomes a safety issue. Please do not drop your students at the first gate either as this causes cars to have to go around your vehicle and again causes issues with the traffic flow. This gate is locked in the mornings for safety after 8:15am. Thanks for your support with our safe drop-off.
The expectation is the same for Laurel St Stop, Drop and Go. Please do not park in this zone and leave your vehicle as it doesn’t allow for the traffic to flow. It is important to continually move your car to the front of the zone to allow cars to move in behind you. Our staff are working hard to ensure the safety of our students as they leave the school grounds and we appreciate your support with this by following our pick-up and drop-off processes.
As the weather remains cold over the winter months, a reminder that students are required to either wear a school jacket available at the uniform shop (open Friday morning from 8am); or a plain jumper in a school blue colour. Students are not permitted to wear hoodies or jumpers with any printing or designs on them. Girls are permitted to wear blue stockings (or black if blue is unavailable). All students can also wear plain school blue tracksuit pants. A reminder that girls should be wearing suitable earrings and headbands to school. Headbands should be in school colours and earrings should be limited to plains studs.
This Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
Term Three Excursions
This term many of our students will be attending excursions to enhance and consolidate aspects of learning being conducted in the classroom. A reminder that when students are representing our school off site, students are to wear their full school uniform, white socks and plain black shoes as outlined in our School Dress Code.
Year Five and Six Volleyball Cup
The Year Five and Six Qld Schools Volleyball Cup scheduled for Thursday 21st August has been postponed. The new date is Thursday 16th October.
Book Week Parade
The famous Enoggera State School Book Week Parade is this Friday 22nd August at 9:15am. At this stage the parade will be conducted on the Multicourt. If inclement weather sets in the parade will be moved to EPAC.
Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. Click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events.
The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.
Pillar Practice
This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around the pillars of Being Respectful and Being a responsible learner and focuses on following instructions first time everytime. While acknowledging that it is ok to find unfamiliar tasks challenging, and everyday tasks boring it is not acceptable to ignore or defy adult instructions .

STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council will be running a Subway Meal Deal on Tuesday 16th September. Ordering is now live and will remain open until 9am on Friday 12th September.
Please use the scan code below or this link to order your Meal: https://myschoollunch.com.au/enoggera-ss-traffic-selector

We really encourage all families to sign up for QParents to keep on top of invoices and stay connected with school updates.
If you have any questions, need help, or would like to talk about setting up a payment plan, you’re always welcome to get in touch with me at bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au.
Thanks for your support!
UNEXPLAINED STUDENT ABSENCES
Reminder letters will be sent out again this week for students with unexplained absences recorded in their attendance. Each letter includes a form requesting a reason for the absence, which, in some cases, has not yet been returned.
If you have received one of these letters and have not yet submitted the completed form, we kindly ask that you return it to the school office as soon as possible.
Maintaining accurate attendance records is essential for student wellbeing and is a requirement for school reporting. Your prompt response helps us keep our records current and supports clear and effective communication between home and school.
QPARENTS – Stay Connected and Informed
We kindly remind all parents and caregivers that QParents is now the primary platform for receiving school communications, including consent forms and invoices.
To ensure you don’t miss any important information or deadlines, we strongly encourage all families to register for QParents as soon as possible.
If you choose not to sign up for QParents, please be aware that you will need to visit the school office regularly to collect any hard copy consent forms or notices.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us streamline communication and support a more efficient, environmentally friendly process.
LOST PROPERTY
Our Lost Property area – just under the administration office, outside the uniform shop – is overflowing with misplaced socks, school hats, and those vanishing jumpers. If your child is missing something, please encourage them to stop by and check this spot for anything that may be missing.
A huge thank you to the amazing parents who help keep things organised – we couldn’t do it without you!
SPARE UNIFORMS & UNDERWEAR – A LITTLE BACKUP GOES A LONG WAY!
A quick reminder to all our Prep and Year 1 families: please make sure your child has a full set of spare clothes in their school bag each day – including underwear. Sometimes little accidents happen, and having a change of clothes on hand helps keep our students comfortable and ready to learn.
If your child has borrowed any spare clothing from the office recently, we kindly ask that these items be returned as soon as possible. Our supply is running low, and we'd love to restock for any future needs.
We're also gratefully accepting donations of new underwear, as these items can't be reused once worn. Thanks so much for your support in helping us care for all our students!
CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE – TURN TRASH INTO TREASURE!
Did you know Queenslanders use around 3 billion drink containers every year? That’s a lot of bottles and cans – but thanks to Containers for Change, we can give them a second life and help our environment at the same time!
The Containers for Change Schools Program is a fun and easy way for schools like ours to raise funds while teaching students about the power of recycling. It’s a win-win for our planet and our school community!
If you’ve been collecting bottles and cans at home, you can support Enoggera State School by donating your containers. Just drop them off at any official Containers for Change collection point and use our school code: C11523111
Thanks for helping us make a difference – every container counts!
HUNGRY TUMMIES & EMERGENCY LUNCHES
With winter well underway and appetites growing, here’s a friendly reminder to pack a little extra food in your child’s lunchbox whenever possible. We’ve noticed some students are finishing their meals early and feeling hungry before the day ends.
On the rare occasions when lunch is forgotten, we have emergency food supplies available at school, kindly provided by Camp Australia and Foodbank. We’re very grateful for their generous support. Sandwiches are always prioritised over snacks to ensure students get a filling and nutritious meal.
If families can please make sure students come to school with enough food each day, it helps reduce the pressure on our admin team during busy break times.
Thank you for helping keep all our students happy, healthy, and ready to learn throughout the chilly months!
SCHOOL CLEANER WANTED – Join our team!
We’re currently looking for a school cleaner to join the Enoggera State School team for 20 hours per week. Ideally, the position will be Monday to Friday in a split shift (e.g. morning and afternoon).
This is an entry-level position, so a full recruitment process isn’t required. If you or someone you know might be interested, please get in touch with me directly via email emast27@eq.edu.au – I’d love to hear from you!
Have a lovely fortnight!

Managing School Refusal
School refusal is a term that refers to children who experience emotional distress around school. Children might refuse to go to school because of worries about leaving home, learning difficulties, social challenges or other reasons. School refusal may be temporary and linked to a specific stressor, such as a test, social conflict, sports lesson or event like a camp or swimming carnival. In other situations, children may have ongoing school refusal which can cause significant stress. The underlying reasons children struggle to attend school can be complex. Research suggests that risk factors can include psychological problems, socio-economic disadvantage and school environment problems like bullying. Sometimes, school refusal is associated with autism, ADHD and anxiety disorders.
School refusal can manifest in many ways. Things to look out for include:
- Changes in behaviour, such as being quiet and withdrawn, crying or angry outbursts
- Frequent complaints of physical illness before or during school including headaches, tiredness and stomach upsets.
- Frequent visits to the sick bay during the school day.
- Negative talk about school.
- Excessive worry about school events, social conflict with peers or learning difficulties.
Here are some ideas that might help:
It is important to validate your child’s feelings. Using phrases such as “I can see you’re nervous about swimming lessons” can make children feel seen and heard. Talk to your child about how they are feeling and reassure that it’s okay to feel scared sometimes.
Create a calm morning routine: Predictability helps reduce anxiety. Having a consistent, gentle routine before school can make transitions easier. A chaotic, busy morning can contribute to your child’s anxiety and make them dysregulated before heading out the door.
Use comfort objects or rituals: A favourite toy or sensory item, a special note in the lunchbox, or a goodbye hug ritual can provide reassurance.
Keep goodbyes short and sweet. When saying goodbye to your child at the school gate have a quick hug and leave promptly.
Practice short separations: Encourage your child to attend play dates or spend time with friends and relatives so that they gradually get used to being apart for short periods and improve their confidence.
Consider professional support: If school refusal is becoming chronic, a therapist or counsellor specialising in anxiety can offer techniques like cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT).

This term, Year 5 and 6 have been learning about volleyball with our wonderful PE Teacher Mr Woodrick. Students have been learning the rules and basics of volleyball, like our digs, sets, spikes and serves.
On Monday, we had students from The Gap State High School, who are experts in volleyball, come and visit our Year 5 and 6 students and help them critique their skills, ready to hopefully bring home some medals at the volleyball cup. We have been split up into our teams and are ready to go!
Mr Woodrick, Miss Dowling and Mrs Kent will be supervising these students and cheering them on from the sidelines. We wish our students good luck and hope they have plenty of fun! GO ESS!!!
Unfortunately this competition has been posponed due to expected bad weather and will now be held on Thursday 16 October at Craigslea State High School.

We need your continued help in the TUCKSHOP for TERM 3
Did you know, the Tuckshop is soley run and operated by the P&C. Rosetta our fabulous tuckshop convenor has been with our school for over 10 years, but she cannot operate the tuckshop on her own!
We need 2-3 volunteers each day to ensure we can open the tuckshop doors and serve our children. We need YOU! The Tuckshop can only operate with the support of our fantastic volunteers, and we’d love for you to be part of the team.
If you can spare any time; by baking home treats on the weekend, joining our sticker club whilst you wait before school or helping in the tuckshop itself, please get in touch to lend a helping hand. Every little bit helps! If you have a keen grandparent, neighbour or friend, we would also love their help. Sign up here! Or email the P&C for further details.
Swim Club - Call out for Volunteers
If you have ever been a member of the Swim Club you will know what a great community it is and how much fun is had by all who attend each fortnight during the season. However, none of it is possible without our wonderful volunteers!
This year we are lucky to have Marinda staying on as our club chair, but she cannot do it all alone. The reality is that if we can't find a co-chair or a few committee members to help run the club and a new canteen convenor to fill all the hungry bellies, we won't be able to have a swim club this season. So, if you love the club and want to help keep it going, please get in touch as soon as possible!

Dance Performance Team
What an incredible way to wrap up our eisteddfod season! Our dancers lit up the stage at Beenleigh Dance Eisteddfod on Friday 8th August, performing with energy, precision, and so much heart.
Our Jazz item "Respect" earned a 3rd place with an amazing 92 points, and our Contemporary piece "Ashes" scored an outstanding 92.5 points – such a huge achievement, even though it just missed a placing. The standard was incredibly high, and our students truly held their own.
We also received some lovely feedback from the adjudicator, who complimented our Jazz piece on how clean and crisp the students were in regards to their timing. He also loved the choreography and the big reach moments in our Contemporary dance.
Congratulations again to our wonderful Dance Performance Team!
Arts on Stage Save the Date
Our Arts on Stage Performance will be held on Thursday 27th November. Ensembles involved in the performance include Vocal Performance Team, Dance Performance Team, Senior Strings, Chamber Strings, Junior Strings, Concert Band, Senior Choir, Junior Choir, Recorder Band, Boys Crew, Red Dance, Green Dance and Purple Dance.
More information regarding our Arts on Stage Performance will be out soon.
Vocal Performance Team
Singfest is happening on Thursday 26th August (Week 7). It's important you're practising all of your items in preparation for your final competition of the year. Information regarding this event has been sent out via email. So please check your emails for all of the information.
Dance Ensembles, Choirs & Recorder
All of our Dance Ensembles, Choirs and Recorder band rehearsals started in Week 1. Please ensure students are attending all rehearsals. Students are now preparing for Arts on Stage in Term 4. It's important that students are attending all rehearsals as we still have many students not turning up when they are at school. Please encourage students to practise at home. Many of the groups are nearly finished their items and if they are ready, they may have the opportunity to perform at assembly. More information regarding this will be sent home over the coming weeks. Keep practising!

Students are still forgetting to bring their instrumentals to their lessons. Please ensure you bring your instrument each week and take it home at the end of the day. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays many instruments are left behind in EPAC. Students must take their instruments home.

Are you struggling to get your little people out of bed on these cold wintery mornings?
Below are a few little tips to help ease the morning struggle, help students fall asleep quicker and stay asleep longer.
1. The first step to help students wake up on the right side of the bed is making sure students are getting enough sleep at night.
Many studies have proven that a lack of sleep can hamper physical and mental health. Tweens and teens (11 – 17 years old) who get too little sleep have shown an increase in anxiety, depression and physical pain.
Here are some general guidelines for the number of hours of sleep kids require each night, based on age range:
1 – 2 Years: 11-14 Hours at Night (not including day naps)
2 – 3 Years: 11 – 13 Hours at Night (not including one day nap)
3 – 5 Years: 10 – 13 Hours
6 – 13 Years: 9 – 11 Hours
14 – 17 Years: 8 – 10 Years
18 – 25 Years: 7 – 9 Hours
2. Having a consistent and good bedtime routine, without a lot of stimulation, and use of devices will help kids fall asleep quicker.
In fact, some studies have shown blue-light exposure before bed negatively shifts the body’s natural circadian clock and can affect a person’s sleep-wake cycle well into the next day.
3. Wake Kids up using the help of natural light.
The body’s natural circadian rhythm, or what is also called the sleep-wake cycle is the body’s ability to wake up with the light and go to sleep when it’s dark.
Before you go to bed, pull open the blinds or curtains a little so the light will flood into rooms in the morning and help to naturally wake little ones.
In winter the mornings are darker so the use of wake up lights (which start dark during sleep hours and increase in light as the morning approaches) help to synch children's sleep-wake cycle.
4. Give kids time to rise gradually, if you are usually up before your kids, go into their rooms 10 minutes before they need to be up. Pull the curtains open even more to let natural light in and you can also give them a kiss, say “I Love You” and “Good Morning.”
Then leave the room so they can rise gradually on their own which usually takes less than 10 minutes for them to come out of their rooms.
How are we looking after students wellbeing at Enoggera State School ?
Breakfast club: Breakfast club is serving warm toast and Up and Go's between 8:20am to 8:40am every Tuesday and Friday mornings. Breakfast Club is not only filling hungry bellies but also giving students a chance to socialize.
Wellbeing radio is still happening every Friday at second break, it is fantastic to see all the students dance their way into the weekend.
Have a great fortnight,

Queensland Road Safety Week (QRSW) is a key event in Queensland's road safety calendar. 2025 marks the 11th celebration of Queensland Road Safety Week, running from 18 – 22 August.
QRSW aims to raise the profile of road safety within communities across the state and is an opportunity for all Queenslanders, from individuals to schools, to show their commitment towards our shared goal of making Queensland roads safer for all road users.
This year’s theme is ‘We’re One Team Queensland. Let’s drive like it’.
Sadly, road trauma is a leading cause of death for Queensland children. As a community, young people need our support and guidance to keep safe on and around roads while they are still developing the cognitive, sensory and physical skills required to be safe on and around the roads.
The safety of our students, parents and carers, and staff is paramount, and we all have a role to play. Students become road users at an early age as pedestrians, scooter or bike riders, and are our future drivers. Influencing positive road safety attitudes can never start too young.
We are asking everyone to consider how you can act as One Team Queensland on the roads:
- Is it leaving 5 minutes early to beat the school rush?
- Is it walking the extra distance to use the school crossing?
- Is it demonstrating courteous driving by giving a wave when someone lets you merge in front of them?
Together, let’s set a good example and inspire our younger generations to behave as One Team every time we’re on or around the roads. Remember, we’re One Team Queensland. Let’s drive like it!
