Student report cards, which will be sent out at the end of next week, will provide you with an indication of how your child/ren are progressing against the year level expectations, although remember this reporting period reflects the modified delivery of learning that has occurred this year. Please remember that if your child receives a ‘C’ rating they are achieving year level expectations. An ‘A’ or ‘B’ rating identifies a student as achieving above or well above year level expectations, while a ‘D’ or ‘E’ rating indicates some difficulty. Effort and behaviour comments are also important and tell a lot about attitude to school and learning. As report cards will once again be emailed, please ensure that we have your correct email address. Parent teacher interviews will be scheduled for the end of term, with a variety of formats for the meetings planned. More information will follow later this term.
A useful app you may wish to download is QSchools. This app gives up to date communication around events and the latest school news as well as access to newsletters, tuckshop and uniform shop information. It is also handy for those quick calendar checks so you will never miss an event and can easily confirm dates such as student free days or show holidays. The app can manage updates from multiple schools, which is useful if you have children in different schools.
To download the app visit the application store for your device and once the app is downloaded:
- Open the QSchools app.
- Select OK - to ensure push notifications are enabled.
- Select School search > Name search.
- Type in Enoggera State School
- Select the school.
- Tap the grey star to favourite the school and the star will turn green with a small tick beside it.

We had our first assembly in a long time this week. Assemblies will be held fortnightly this term, with parents of award recipients invited to attend.
A special congratulations to Elizabeth, who has earned the Scouting Grey Wolf Award. In reaching this level, Elizabeth has shown initiative in tackling this challenge, as well as personal traits of self-discipline, teamwork and leadership. Well done on this special attainment Elizabeth!
Although our prep interviews and induction processes have been delayed, we are taking Prep enrolments for next year. If you, or anyone you know, has a child eligible for enrolment, please ask them to contact the school or go to the enrolment page on our website at https://enoggerass.eq.edu.au

There are increasing numbers of students arriving at school before 8am. A reminder from our school handbook - Parents/caregivers, please note that students should not arrive at school prior to 8:00am; students at school prior to 8:00am will need to access the Out of School Hours Care program. Please call YMCA Out of School Hours Care on 3355 3870.

Welcome back to what is going to be a very busy term of learning! It has been wonderful to see the return of all students refreshed and ready to continue their learning journey. I have already had the pleasure of Year 2 sharing their “Exciting Writing” with me last week. Students are developing an understanding of how to add an additional event to a known narrative. The use of descriptive language to turn good sentences into great sentences was truly impressive. Well done Year 2!

Year 6 News
Welcome to the halfway point of the school year! The Year 6 cohort have continued to develop clear and firm foundations on which we are continuing to grow, through clear and explicit teaching and learning strategies for all Year 6 students. We, as teachers, on this year level continue to collaborate on all curriculum areas to ensure students receive the same learning experiences across all subject areas.
This year a huge focus for our Year 6 students will be on the transition to High School in 2021. It is with this in mind that our teaching and learning time will have a high emphasis on self-motivation, resilience, high expectations and the pursuit of excellence. Each week there will be set homework tasks however there will also be other mini assignments or topic work given to students to be completed on top of the usual tasks, to help foster time management skills in preparation for high school.
While our sights are on academic progress, we are also aware of the importance of developing well rounded young people that will be able to cope in an ever demanding world. The Enoggera State School pillars displayed in our classrooms emphasise key points that align and support the development of resilience and personal responsibility in our students. Being a Responsible Learner at Enoggera requires students to follow instructions, persist with set tasks to completion and pursue excellence. It is important for our students to learn these skills through conversations that are meaningful and through life experiences. We all have times when aspects of life just do not work out the way we wanted or maybe planned. It is how we deal with the disappointments and mistakes that make all the difference and it is this that we seek to develop in our students.
Throughout the remainder of this year, our Year 6 students will participate in social and emotional resilience activities and discussions which will occur over the remaining terms in class. These discussions, as well as other key concepts, will cover and hopefully answer some of the queries our Year 6 cohort usually have at this time of the school year, which include;
- Making new friends and peer pressure.
- More subjects and teachers.
- More homework.
- More challenging schoolwork.
- The responsibility of getting to classes in different rooms on time.
- The need to manage themselves, their learning and their equipment.
- Using lockers and carrying books between classes.
- Adapting to different teaching styles and expectations.
- Having no 'home' classroom with that one teacher like in primary school (although many schools have a designated area for Year 7 students.)
You can help to ease any worries your child has about starting secondary school by preparing your child now and in the following months, especially as many high school interviews/enrolments are taking place. Please talk with your child about what they’re most looking forward to and what they’re worried about and encourage your child to look at the positive side of the move to secondary school. You could also ask what your child’s friends are saying about secondary school and talk about how your child might keep in touch with old friends and how to make new friends at high school.
This is such a crucial time in the lives of our current Year 6 students and with your support and that of our school staff, students will no doubt adapt quickly and successfully with their transition into high school.

With so many things changing so quickly at the moment it is very hard to keep a track of everything and our little people are not immune from this. As many serving parents are being called away at short notice and things are changing so rapidly, please remember to check in with your child and see how they are coping. If your family is dealing with an absence due to posting, exercise, MWDU or COVID duties, please keep in touch with either your child’s classroom teacher or shoot me an email to let us know what is happening, so we can keep an eye on any changes or concerns and check in with them when needed. Quite often what might seem like small changes to adults can mean a lot to a child and their worries might be heightened given the current climate and media coverage. Also, if you have additional family supporting you during times of absence, please make sure you have notified the admin staff of additional contact details and permissions are up to date.

Welcome back to another fantastic term at Enoggera. There is always a lot going on in our library, and this term is no different. The library has reopened at first break for a limited number of students to read, go on computers, colour or just sit and relax.
The Scholastic Book Club brochure for Issue 5 has just been sent home and orders need to be put in before 5th August. If you are interested in making any purchases you can find out how on the second last page of the brochure. Don’t forget that as a bonus the school receives free resources with any purchases made, but, more importantly your child gets to build on their own personal book collection.

This collection of eBooks includes easy readers, comic and graphic books, science fiction and fantasy resources. Please take the time to look through the huge selection of books that are available for students to read and for you to read to your child.
We have also registered again this year for the 2020 Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual statewide initiative for state and non-state schools and home-educated students up to Year 9, and children enrolled in an early childhood centre or program.
The challenge is not a competition but aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read widely for pleasure and learning. Children and students can participate in the challenge within their school, early childhood centre or as individual readers (home-educated students or students whose schools are not participating in the program).
For Prep — Year 9 students to successfully complete the challenge they must read or experience an allocated number of books based upon their year level during the reading period.
Children and students who complete the challenge will have their efforts recognised through the receipt of a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier of Queensland.
For further information and to download the school reader record form visit the Premier's Reading Challenge website https://readingchallenge.education.qld.gov.au/
Happy Reading

Instrumental Music 2021
Year 2 students are currently finishing up their Selmer listening testing as part of the selection process for Instrumental Music students for 2021. Our current Year 2 students are eligible to play a String instrument next year. These instruments are: Violin, Viola and Cello.
It is a good idea to discuss with your child if they would like to play an instrument next year and the commitment and practice required to learn an instrument.
Along with the results of the Selmer test, consideration is also given to general aptitude to study, physical suitability to a particular instrument, students’ interest in the instrument and their ability to commit to the program and practice.
String Ensemble
The Senior String ensemble will start rehearsals in Week 3 at the usual time.
Choirs and Recorder
Choirs and Recorder club are up and running as usual with social distancing in place.

Welcome back to what is looking increasingly like a very busy term.
We are working towards a couple of events, which is wonderful to be planning. Our school Athletics Carnivals both Senior and Junior will be happening in Week 10. More details will come over the next few weeks as we work through return to sport requirements, restrictions and structure up the program for our event.
We have also been advised that the Primary Schools Volleyball Cup will be held on September 10 at Craigslea High School. Teams are being created and students who are keen to participate will bring home more information in the next couple of weeks.
Inter-school, District and other Sporting Events.
While a handful of team sports have been rebooted in the Representative Sports area – including hockey, cricket, basketball and netball, it has now been confirmed that there will not be a District Athletics Carnival for 2020.
