As advised by email earlier this week, we are delighted that our application for funding under the School Subsidy Scheme has been successful. This funding, which amounts to around $180,000 will go towards construction of a cover over our existing multi-purpose court. This will provide an all-weather area for students to play, join in PE lessons and participate in a multitude of learning activities in a safe and shaded area. Thank you to the P&C who have worked towards this goal for a number of years; fundraising to meet the community contribution required to complete the work. This area, when complete, will be a fantastic enhancement of our school facilities, catering for our student growth and a positive legacy for our school. Thank you to the large number of parents who offered to assist on our working group; unfortunately we couldn’t take everyone. There is however an opportunity for all parents to provide feedback on the initial design which can be seen in the picture below. Please email any suggestions directly to me on principal@enoggerass.eq.edu.au
This week is Teacher Aide Appreciation Week, a special opportunity for our school to acknowledge and celebrate the important contribution teacher aides make to student learning and wellbeing. We appreciate our amazing, talented teacher aides and all the work that they do.
There are some great presents going out for Fathers’ Day thanks to our wonderful parent group. To all the fathers out there – have a great weekend.

Year 2
What a wonderful term of learning Year 2 has had so far. The Year 2 teachers continue to be amazed with the progress of the students and it’s great to look back over the year and celebrate just how far our young learners have come.
A fun highlight of this term was the Crazy Colour Day Fun Run and our enthusiasm was not dampened by the rain. Pun intended! The children had the time of their lives and I think the teachers might have enjoyed it a bit as well. Of course, the money raised was an outstanding contribution to the school.
Next term, we are planning an excursion to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary that will support the students learning to write an information report about an Australian native animal. It is always a fun and engaging day out so look out for more details soon.
This term, our English focus has been to write detailed and imaginative new events to build on a well-known narrative. The children have enjoyed being assistant authors to some great authors of children’s texts. They have created some fun and interesting new events and it has been an exciting process!
We are so proud of everyone’s efforts and here are just a few samples of some independent writing additions to various known narratives.
Mr Piggott was scavenging for food in the lounge room and it was stormy outside. There was a lot of rain and it sounded like drums on the roof. Just then a huge bolt of lightning struck a post outside the house and Mr Piggott fell over in fright and fainted. By Sam 2A
It was floating perfectly on the crystal blue sky. Snap! One of the cables broke and they were worried. The house was titling on its side and it was about to fall. Plop! It went in the exact same spot it was before and they were left in despair. By Ivy 2A
The building team came as fast as they could but it was too late. There was an enormous yellow crane and a great big bulldozer but that wasn’t enough. The previous building team had way more building devices. All of the Fairweathers exclaimed, “Help!” Except baby Mary. By Emily 2A
Little Cat suddenly woke up in the darkness of the cold bus. She was worried but she realised something. It looked like a man and unfortunately it was just a post with a coat on it. Little Cat missed her big sister so badly then she imagined what her family would be doing without her. Rhys 2B
I’m sure you’ll agree that we have some budding authors in our midst!
We have covered lots of learning areas in our maths this term as the children really develop their skills in a range of topics. In class, we use various ways to support student’s learning, including small groups with hands on activities and buddy or teacher support, some outdoor investigations, games and the children continue to enjoy using their individual whiteboards for fast paced activities. We have been investigating and representing numbers up to 1000, problem solving using multiplication and division, exploring measurement and fractions and counting and representing collections of notes and coins.
The photos we have shared show Year 2 measuring capacity and area, counting collections of money, and also some 2B children proudly displaying the procedural texts they created earlier this term.

We hope you enjoy the rest of this term and the upcoming holidays.

I really appreciate all of the parents who have touched base with either myself or their child’s classroom teachers over the last couple of weeks and let us know about the many family absences that are happening at the moment. I am here to support our ADF families so please check in if you need assistance or have concerns. We have a number of serving parents who are away on exercise, training courses or working on Operation Covid Assist and we all appreciate your dedication to helping us get through this. This time is hard for many ADF families at home and the uncertainty around the length of absence time and health concerns for their loved ones. Please reach out if you need help or check in with a friend if you are struggling. We have a great little community of support here at Enoggera SS.
Enoggera SS have recently taken up the offer of a Web Cam provided to us by Defence Health as part of their Making Connections Matter Program and I am looking forward to rolling this out over the next couple of months. This wonderful opportunity will enable our children to communicate with a deployed or absent parent whilst at school. If families are posting out, we can arrange online meetings with the new locations school staff. Deployed parents can tap into parent-teacher interviews and we can engage our classes more with absent serving parents through smartboard classroom chats. If you have any suggestions or would like to be involved with your child at school whilst absent please let me know.
Have you checked out the new Gallipoli Barracks Community Centre website? They have all of the programs on offer at the centre, important links and upcoming events for local ADF families based out of Enoggera: https://www.gallipolibarrackscommunitycentre.com.au/
Congratulations 3B on being the first class to enjoy the new computer room furniture. The students are thoroughly enjoying the space. Thank you Mrs Butler and Ms Haslam for organising our new room.

School Athletics Carnival
We are still working towards our interhouse athletics carnivals in week 10. As mentioned in the last newsletter our parents and families will not be able to attend this year. Wednesday 16th – for the Years 3-6 students and Thursday 17th for the Prep – Year 2 students.
Please make sure that your students have their hats, water bottles and sports shirts for these days.
Volleyball Cup
Good luck to our Year 5 & 6 students who will be participating in the Annual Volleyball Cup at Craigslea State High School on the 10th September. We have a record number of teams going to the event. Thanks in advance to the staff who will be supporting them at the event.
Reminder that students are to wear their normal school shirts on this day – NOT their senior shirt and that parents are unable to attend this event.

Some exciting news about our roof project!
We are super excited to announce that ESS has been successful in our application for a Queensland Government School Subsidy Scheme grant to help us build the roof over our multi-purpose court. This is amazing news for our big little school and means we are now working towards the start of work on the roof at the end of Term 4 so that the project will be completed for the start of the new school year.
While we still have some fundraising to do to fund the entire roof construction, this grant obviously puts us an enormous step ahead to seeing this project delivered for the benefit of all of our wonderful students, staff and families.
We would sincerely like to thank the ESS Admin team who assisted with the Grant application and to all of our current and past families for their generous donations towards this project.
As Mrs Butler indicated in her email to families last week, we are now forming a small working group of interested parents to assist to co-ordinate this project.
COVID safe fundraising ideas
Given the restrictions we are now all living with, we are working on a number of COVID safe fundraising ideas to continue to raise money for school improvement projects. If anybody has any ideas of COVID safe fundraising initiatives, please send them through to our P&C Executive using the details below.
The Tuck Inn
Thank you for your support of The Tuck Inn this year and your feedback on our menu selections. We are making a few minor amendments and additions to our Term 4 menu which we will publish before the end of this Term on the school website and via Facebook.
On the last Wednesday of Term 3 (Wednesday 16 September) we will be selling Chicken Burgers as a special menu item. The burgers will be a white roll, lettuce, mayo and chicken patty. Check the QKR! App in Week 10 to order a yummy burger for a special Wednesday lunch.
And finally, if you are volunteering at the Tuck Inn we request that you wear a mask and bring your own apron.
Instrumental music shirts
We are seeking donations of any second hand instrumental music shirts that are no longer required at your house to be sold to families who need them. If you have any at home, please send them in to the office with your students to donate to the Uniform Shop.
Containers for Change
Please keep helping us to fill up those Containers for Change bins with suitable containers for recycling. To check if your containers are eligible, check the back of the container for the 10c symbol (lids must also be removed).
If you wish to visit the depot and deposit your own containers and contribute to the ESS scheme, our school scheme ID is C10051863.
