Well done to students who participated in Green and Orange ball tennis at the Brisbane International Schools Challenge. The competition was tough but students tried hard and showed great sportsmanship. A huge thank you to Scott from Splice Tennis who donated his time and expertise for team selection and coaching. In other sporting news, our Year 4-6 students who have attended Gala Days have had great success in the cricket and touch football competitions with some teams winning all their games.

Well done also to our Year 5 debating superstars who won their fourth and final debate, arguing in the negative that Sport Stars aren’t good role models. The adjudicator commented that the team raised some great points and their arguments well prepared and clearly structured. Thanks to Mr Chinn for his time in working with the team.
Some of our Year 5 students are also getting ready to apply for leadership positions for 2020. There will be two School Captains, 4 Sports Captains (2 Banksia and 2 Waratah) and 2 Arts Captains. Students have received information on how to apply.
Our Prep Transition sessions are well underway, with our future students enjoying a taste of what Prep will be like in 2020. The teachers have organised a fun program and the participants shown their readiness, joining in all activities with great enthusiasm. This has also been a great opportunity for new and ‘old’ parents to mingle and meet.
We are still working out numbers for 2020, so if you know anyone who has yet to apply for enrolment in any year level please contact the school office as soon as possible.
Yours in Education

Year 6
The end of the year is quickly approaching and what a year it has been. It is often a good opportunity to look back and gauge just how far the Year 6 students have come since the start of the year academically and socially.
At the end of Term 3 the students conducted a number of investigations in the learning areas of Science and Mathematics. As part of Science, students were required to design, plan and construct a ‘Steady Hand Game’ in which students developed a working simple electric circuit. In Maths students were expected to construct a Maths board game in which individuals had to incorporate maths facts and maths skill in their board game. Students took much delight in playing each other’s games with enthusiasm.

We are in the midst of finalising assessment through much moderation and alignment with the Australian Curriculum as we begin the reporting process for Semester Two. With only a six weeks before the end of the year it is important to remind you that “Every day counts” and students are expected to attend school every day until the final day of Term 4, Friday 13th December, 2019.
The next few weeks are very busy as we have a number of events taking place including;
- Speeches and voting for 2020 Captains positions
- Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 4th December
- Year 6 Graduation on Thursday 12th December
- Arts on Stage on Friday 22nd November
- Christmas Carols on Friday 29th November
- Class Celebration Day Friday 13th December
To our Year 6 students, we want to encourage you in all of your efforts in your respective high schools. We trust that as High School students you will continue to grow and develop a love of life and learning in all you do.

Class Swimming:
Swimming is well underway in PE Classes. Over the last couple of weeks we have a lot of students forgetting some of their gear. Please check in with your child to ensure they still have all their gear every week – especially caps, goggles and rashies. If your child is wearing swimmers to school under their uniforms, check they have packed dry underwear.
We have a fantastic group of teacher aides who are supporting the Prep and Year 1 students in the changing process. Please help them out by ensuring that all your child’s clothes are labelled.
Any labelled lost property is returned to students, either directly or through their class teachers. Caps (especially the latex or silicone ones) and goggles, need to be regularly relabelled as the permanent marker wears off quickly and we get a lot of these left behind.
If your child arrives home with either Enoggera gear they have borrowed (ESS) or other gear – please return this to your class teacher ASAP so that it can be returned to the rightful owner or into the spares kit.
Thank you to all those parents who are helping out with Prep to Year 2 classes. It is really important that we get that support in the water. It means that we have smaller groups and more effective time in the pool.
Students Unable To Swim due to illness – if your child is unable to swim on any particular week, please send a note to school with your child or email me at jjard16@eq.edu.au
Swimming Carnivals:
Swimming Carnivals have been scheduled for Week 9 of this term.
- Year 3-6 students will be competing on Wednesday 4th December in an all-day event.
- Prep to Year 2 will be competing on Thursday 5th December for a half day event.
Programs will be sent home closer to the those dates.

Library News
Our much anticipated BOOK FAIR is just over a week away.
This year’s theme is
The fair will run from Friday 8th November to Wednesday 13th November, with our Family Evening on Tuesday 12th of November. There will be fantastic books to buy, as well as posters, and many novelty items. It is a great opportunity to keep the students interested in reading, or possibly buy Christmas presents. We will be running competitions during the fair and as an added bonus, with every book purchased, you go into the draw to win $15 Book Fair vouchers. Every year this event is a huge success in our community, and with the funds raised from all of the purchases, the school will get to buy new resources for our library.
A reminder note will be sent home early next week. I know a lot of the students are as excited as us.
Also, a reminder that we have a LOT of books that are overdue and some that have been overdue from early in the year. Can you please help us by looking in bags, chair bags, desks, under beds etc and return any overdue books as soon as possible. Thanks for your assistance.
And always remember, reading may unlock your SECRET POWER!!!
Happy Reading

Thank you to Site Surveys for the donation of the survey of the Multi-purpose court area. This donation has saved us approximately $2,000 and we appreciate their time and expertise in helping our school community.
