Dear Parent and Caregivers,
DAY FOR DANIEL
On Thursday we celebrated the ‘Day For Daniel’ by having a ‘Dance for Daniel’ at Enoggera State School, where all of the students and staff wore red and made a gold coin donation towards the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and the great work they do. Day for Daniel is Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day and is held annually on the last Friday of October. Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe.
Core messages on the day for our students are to ‘Recognize’ when something does not feel right by listening to their body cues, ‘React’ by taking action and doing something eg. run, scream, tell someone and then to ‘Report’ to one of your 5 safety helpers.

WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY
Also celebrated each year at the end of October is World Teacher's Day in Queensland. At Enoggera State School we will celebrate this special day on Monday, November 1. It would be lovely for students to write their teachers a card, message or draw a picture to say thank you for the special work they do and the important part they play in each of their students’ lives.
WAKAKIRRI COMPETITION
What a wonderful evening it was to see our Wakairri team finally perform at the Logan Entertainment Centre recently. Our talented students did a wonderful job under the expert guidance of Mrs Wilcox and her team. The story, choreography, music, sets and costumes as well as the very important environmental message were all due to her creative brilliance. Thank you to everyone who was involved in pulling this show together and also to those who made the trek to Logan to support them and to see the team perform. It certainly was a wonderful night to be the proud Principal of Enoggera State School.
Last week was State Education Week. The theme this year is "Strong communities, successful students", where we celebrate how state schools work with families, students and staff to create positive communities that value high quality education for all children. This is possible because Teachers, parents, school staff and community members all work together with the common goal of the best outcomes for our students. We love our state school and I am very proud to be the principal of such a great state school which is very fortunate to be part of a wonderful wider community.
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Our Year 5 prospective 2022 Student Leaders are currently undergoing the leadership process where they are demonstrating that they meet certain criteria to become a student leader at Enoggera State School for 2022. They are currently collecting signatures as part of the criteria card, which will form part of their written application for one of the positions available for next year. Mrs Burrows and myself are also holding a series of workshops with the students to ensure they are well prepared in what student leadership involves and how to prepare their written application and if needed, speeches.
The positions available for 2022 will therefore be: 2 School Captains, 1 Student Council Chairperson, 2 House Captains each for Banksia and Waratah, 2 Arts Captains, 1 Student Council Class Representative for each Yr 3-6 class (to be elected in 2022).
We will announce the successful candidates for all except the class representatives at the final Principal’s Assembly of the year, and we will hold a formal induction ceremony in Week 3 of next year, where students will receive their badges of office.
PREP TRANISITION
This Friday will be the first of our Prep Transition mornings where we invite our enrolled 2022 Prep students to school for a morning of activities with the current Prep teachers. Whilst the students are busy learning all about Prep, we will also run an information session with the parents to fully inform them about the Prep curriculum programs and the important routines and expectations for next year. We will all meet outside EPAC at 9am where the students will be allocated to groups for the morning and collected by a Prep Teacher. We will then invite the parents into EPAC for the information session. The uniform shop will also be open during the morning from 9:30am-10:30am. The transition morning will be repeated again in a fortnight on Friday, November 19. Students are invited to attend both sessions if they are able to, but parents only need to attend the information session once. Students will be ready for collection at EPAC at 10:45am.
"AGILITY = SWIFT INNOVATION"
You may have noticed the above sign on our school sign recently. State primary schools across Queensland whose leaders are members of the Queensland Association of State School Principals, were asked to display this message on their school noticeboards as part of a coordinated advocacy in an ongoing effort to raise awareness and understanding of the Association's latest advocacy document, "Reimagining Education in Queensland's State Primary Schools".
This document is about our school leaders and their staff members across Queensland embracing the responsibility and the opportunity to provide children with both the academic and social foundations to discover and fulfill their potential in a world that is becoming increasingly complex and ambiguous.
In order for our youngest students to thrive in this world, it is recognised that the future will require people to have a different set of skills including the ability to deal with information overload, work collaboratively across teams and to be able to respond quickly and change direction when seeking solutions to problems. In fact, it will require all learners (students, teachers and school leaders) to adopt agile practices which allow them to respond swiftly and innovatively.
To be able to deliver these outcomes schools will require:
- Space in the work of primary educators to allow for collaboration.
- A decluttered curriculum that provides a space for innovative solutions to be explored.
- A continued focus from the system to make our schools safe and respectful places for all learners, so that they can have a learning environment that supports them to become innovative learners/problem solvers.
2022 PLACEMENT REQUESTS
In an effort to ensure that we make the very best academic and social placement for each of our students for next year, I am providing parents an opportunity to firstly advise us as to whether your child will be returning to ESS in 2022 and also to have a say in the type of learning environment their child is placed into and any students you wish them to be placed with or not for next year to achieve the very best outcomes. This is not an opportunity to request a particular class teacher as final staffing and those decisions have not been made, as yet. This form will need to be returned either in hard copy to the office or emailed directly to: Principal@enoggerass.eq.edu.au
The information will be kept confidential and all requests will be considered but no promises can be made as there are many variables that need to be considered in making the best placements for every student.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
The Year 2s were so excited to go on an excursion to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary last Wednesday! We learned all about Australian animals and we will use this knowledge to help write our information reports in English. While we were at Lone Pine, we got the chance to feed and pat kangaroos, wallabies and emus. We also participated in a Backyard Explorers session where we guessed which Australian animal had left clues behind. This will help us to understand any animals we might find in our own backyards or out in the wild. We also got to pat a cuddly koala and meet some other interesting native wildlife.
In Science this term we have been learning about Earths’ resources and how to conserve them. We have made many trips around the school grounds to discuss and understand how we use resources such as water, soil and plants. We have had a lot of fun collecting this information by taking photos and writing notes. We have come up with some fantastic responses on how we can continue to use our resources at school and at home responsibly.
In Maths this term we have had a lot of fun identifying features of 2D and 3D shapes. We also really enjoyed collecting and representing data and also predicting the chance of events happening. 2B’s favourite task was collection of data on car colours near South Pine Rd! 2A’s favourite data collection activity was creating and asking survey questions of class mates. Many students also commented that they really enjoyed the Chance and Data Assessment. As teachers, we are so thrilled to hear that!
During the excursion to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary
This term 1A is engaging in technology for learning. Our first application which is supporting the student’s procedure writing learning is “Book Creator”. In this application the student’s can insert text, images, voice and video as well as use voice-to-text to support their learning. They can also ask the application to read back their text to hear if their sentences make sense. Further, the students struggling to understand the order their procedure requires in order to complete a task, they can simply take photos as they complete the procedure and then insert the text. It is taking the difficult task of using a pencil and writing out of the process, allowing the student to more accurately demonstrate their knowledge and understanding.
The next amazing application is “Telling Time”. The name says it all. This application allows the students to learning about all the different aspects of time from analogue/digital, o’clock to the minute as well as 12/24-hour time. 1A is learning how to read and write time as “o’clock” and “half past” both digitally and in analogue time.
Finally, to support student’s reading development. The application “Pip and Tim” provide a library of books which use phonics (simple letter/sound) decoding so the student can begin to read. The application will read the word so the student can check their reading accuracy. This application is going to be really useful for our Prep Students in the future.
1A would like to thank Mrs Robinson, the P & C and the Technology Committee for these purchases. We are engaging in learning in a fun and interesting way as well as beginning to understand that technology is more than a game.
Kindest regards
Karen Kent and Class 1A
Everton Park SHS Interschool Robotics Competition - Enoggera SS
Keen young coders from Everton Park SS, Enoggera SS and Stafford SS began their 7-week Thursday afternoon Lego Robotics sessions last week with Mrs Megan Murphy from Everton Park SHS. Students will spend the first few sessions getting to know their EV3 QBot and basic coding, before completing set challenges on the First Lego League Robot Game board for 2021 which this year is themed around transport.
Chelsea, Heidi, Lara, Yoshi, Jarvis and Louis thoroughly enjoyed the first session and displayed exemplary behaviour and skills. Well done Team Enoggera! Watch this space for updates on the teams and how they are progressing…

Congratulations to our Wakakirri students on their fantastic performance! Our team opened the Brisbane shows with family members watching the live stream across Australia and abroad. Thank you parents supporting the night!
Thanks in particular to Allison, Grant, Judith, Helena, Carmen, Claire and Stephanie who worked so hard on the big day (and at Sunday’s rehearsal). A huge shout out to Mr Roxburgh, Mr Woodrick, Ms Kerr and Mrs Green for supporting our students day and night. We look forward to issuing a Big Thank You Award to all of our community members who helped our story in some way.
On the night, ESS were awarded Best Costume Design and Best Minimal Footprint.
Wakakirri Ambassador James Lee had this to say about the performance;
'Enoggera SS presented a wonderful story dance piece that reminded us that all is new may not necessarily be the best. Beautifully danced by all but especially our leads playing Raggedy Ann, the young girl and your own Billy Elliot excellently playing the grandfather. Excellent staging and precision especially in the large group numbers.'
The top 5 areas of our story have been acknowledged in further awards;
- Excellent lead cast
- Excellent construction and clarity
- Excellent solo dance
- Best direction: Combination of dancing and acting
- Best direction: Overall
Consequently, ESS has received an Outstanding Best Original Story Award! Later in the year, we look forward to gathering as a team to watch the National TV Special. Selected schools and their stories will be showcased. Well done team, we are so proud of you!

It’s only a couple of weeks until our much-anticipated Scholastic Book Fair. This year’s event will run from Friday 12th November to Wednesday 17th November. The theme is “READING OASIS – A Cool Place to Discover Hot Books.” The Fair will be open before school from 8.15-8.45 and afternoons from 3.00-3.30 and we will be running some competitions during the fair. Something special that we have added to our BOOK FAIR calendar is our inaugural “BOOK FAIR PYJAMA EVENING.” From 5.00pm – 6.30pm on Tuesday 16th November, join us wearing your favourite comfy pyjamas. The adults can peruse the BOOK FAIR in the resource centre while the kids can visit Prep B for book readings with some of our staff.
It’s a great way to get some early Christmas shopping done and what better gift than the gift of reading.
OVERDUE BOOKS
As the end of the year is fast approaching, it would be much appreciated if you would help your child locate any overdue library books or home readers and return them to the library or classroom teacher ASAP. If you are unable to locate any books or you know that they may have been lost, could you please contact the school to organise payment for the replacement of the books. Thank you so much for your assistance.

Happy Reading
