on Monday, our Principal’s Award Ceremony went well thanks to the excellent participation and behaviour of our wonderful students, attendance from a large crowd of parents and carers and the superb organisation of school staff.
And most importantly, a massive congratulations to all of the award recipients as it is humbling to see them rewarded for their hard work across the school pillars this semester. Congratulations also to all of the other students who may not have received awards yesterday, but still have done their best and achieved their personal learning goals for the year.
BREAK UP DAY and CLEAN UP DAY
Tomorrow, Thursday will be our break up day and our classes will be partaking in a pizza party in their classes as well as games and activities including swimming for some classes. We will also do the traditional send off tunnel for the Yr 6 students tomorrow afternoon as Friday there will be limited students at school, as this will be clean up and moving day in readiness for next year. Of course school will be open on Friday for those families who need supervision for their children, but all of the activities for the year will be finished tomorrow on break up day.
2022 SCHOOL YEAR
A reminder that the school office will be open from Monday, 17th January 9-3pm and that teachers will be involved in professional development from Wednesday, 19th January through to the Friday, 21st January. School recommences for the new school year on Monday, 24th January, 2022. The Australia Day Public Holiday will break up the first week back on Wednesday, 26th January, 2022.
Parents will be able to drop off book packs outside the tuckshop any morning between 6:30am and 8:00am during the week before school, so that they can be transported to classrooms in readiness for the first day. A reminder that booklists were sent home last week for Yr 1-6 and were also in the last newsletter with contact details for the suppliers, but of course you can choose to purchase the items elsewhere if you wish. These are also available on our school website. Prep School Resource Scheme information has also been emailed to Prep families.
A reminder also when purchasing uniforms for next year, that our dress code states black shoes and white socks, so if purchasing new shoes please make sure these align with the dress code. Black shoes means no colours, coloured laces or soles as per the guidelines below.
I must say our students look fantastic here at Enoggera State School when they wear their full uniform with pride, so I encourage parents to support this and ensure their children are able to comply with the approved dress code. The uniform shop will be open in the week prior to school starting on Monday 17/1, Thursday 20/1 and Friday 21/1 from 4-6pm and also Tuesday, 18/1 and Friday 21/1 from 9-11am. It will then be open on the first day of school from Monday 24/1 from 8-9am.
SEMESTER 2 STUDENT REPORTS
The Semester Two Student Report cards are being emailed out today to email addresses saved on One School for all students in Prep to Year 6. If you do not receive your report card by tomorrow please check your junk mail before calling the office to check the email address the report has been sent to. If you have any questions about your child's report card, please address these to the classroom teacher, in the first instance.
2022 CAPTAINS
At the end of the Principal Awards Ceremony yesterday, the 2022 Student Leadership team was announced. We had hoped to do a ceremonious change-over but many of the current Captains were away at Transition Days at High School. They have been an absolutely fantastic group of leaders this year and have done a tremendous job in their roles and certainly leave big shoes for our new leaders to fill.
The process to elect the 2022 Captains was a very rigorous process and a tough decision by the panel, as there were so many deserving students. It is hoped that all of our Yr 6 cohort will take the opportunity as the school’s leaders next year to act as role models for the rest of the student body.
The positions announced yesterday were:
School Captains- Louis P and Lara A
School Vice-Captain and Student Council Chairperson- Heidi F
House Captains- Banksia-Yoshi D and Tallulah L; Waratah- Neve T and Zoe C
Arts Captains- Keily F and Sophia M
The Student Council Representatives for each class from Yr 3-6 for 2022 will be elected by their classes at the beginning of the new school year, and then the induction ceremony will be held at a special assembly in week 3. I look forward to working with all of these students next year and seeing them develop their leadership skills during the year.

2022 STAFFING
As you are aware, we are experiencing some staff change at Enoggera for 2022. Mr Peter Chinn is transferring to Grand Avenue SS and Mrs Melinda Stone will be transferring to Stafford SS. District Swimming 2022
The District Swimming Carnival for 2022 is in Week 3 of Term 1, with nominations closing early in Week 1. This will be a quick turnaround – packs and information will be sent home to students when they return to school in Term 1. Enoggera is able to nominate one student per age group, per gender, per event into this carnival – provided students are meeting qualifying targets. Work will happen over the holidays to work through this data and process.
Happy and Safe Holidays
We wish all of our ESS families a safe and happy holiday season. For our Year 6’s moving onto High School we wish you all the best in your new journey. To those returning to ESS in 2022 we look forward to another busy and eventful year.

What an honour for Enoggera State School to receive ONE of the three National Festival Awards, the Sustainability Award! This is awarded to a school who exemplifies the Wakakirri ethos, great stories inspire change. Our school will receive a large framed photograph of the show. Incredible recognition and thank you Wakakirri!
Our school has always endeavoured to think sustainably when creating stories for stage. Our students used their Digital Technologies learning and created Excel spreadsheets to track show materials. Wakakirri certainly offers rich and varied learning for students. You can watch our school’s performance here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCvx4lQVaHA
Wakakirri is now a festival that celebrates diversity and puts a spotlight on what schools are saying rather than focussing on who is the best. Each year hundreds of schools across Australia create and perform Story-Dances that reflect students’ thoughts, ideas and aspirations. (Wakakirri HQ)
Finally, a huge shout out to some departing families who have been associated with Wakakirri for the past 7-8 years. The Fuller, Corey, Preston and Tavita families, thank you for your help and support over the years, we will miss you!
To all of our families, have a Merry Christmas and a safe holiday!

The final weeks of 2021 are proving to be fun for the students in 5A, with Mr Chinn well and truly getting into the Christmas spirit. The classroom is wonderfully decorated and our learning is continuing, but with a Christmas theme.
We have loved being in 5A, not in small part to the amazing sense of humour with which Mr Chinn has been able to deliver each lesson and engage every student, he will be sadly missed. I’m sure many students will look back on their primary years and associate the wonder of primary school with Grade Five, thanks to Mr Chinn. We hope the Year Six teachers are half as good – they have very large shoes to fill.
Our favourite memories of Year Five
Getting to spend some quality time with my friends at camp including sleeping in the same cabin.
Being able to let loose at camp, in particular doing Hamburger Cheeseburger.
Making new friends.
Getting hugs every day from my cousin, who has stared Prep this year.
Mr Chinn’s random but funny stories. Some of them were even related to learning.
While doing a trust activity at camp, the group leader called us over and we dropped the person who was trusting us to keep them from falling.
Getting to know classmates at camp we don’t usually play with, because we were assigned to cabins by the teachers.
Volleyball cup was amazing.
We have learnt heaps and we had a laugh in the process.

Hello Defence families,
As we wrap up the school year I would like to share my thanks and appreciation for the support I have received whilst in the role of Defence School Mentor at Enoggera State School. I will be finishing up my temporary role in the position this year as I have been appointed for a role in the ADF.
It has been a pleasure getting to know the Defence students, I have learnt a lot and have enjoyed lots of laughs at Defence Kids HQ. Defence students are incredibly resilient, strong and independent individuals.
To those families posting out, I wish you safe travels and all the best for your new adventure. To everyone I wish you a wonderful holiday season and happy New Year!
Thanking you,
Emma Ryan
Defence School Mentor
