Dear Parent and Caregivers,
TERM FOUR EVENTS
As usual, Term Four at Enoggera State School is shaping up to be another busy and exciting term filled with lots of learning and fun. As this an assessment and reporting term, our focus is around finishing the year strong as our students consolidate their learning from the year, to put them in a positive position for the next year.
Apart from learning across all curriculum areas we have many special activities on the calendar as well, including the Student Council Crazy Sock Day in support of Cerebral Palsy, Camps, Excursions, Swimming Carnivals, Arts of Stage, Graduations, Student Leadership activities, Roll Up and Transition sessions and Break Up activities, just to name a few. It will be important for families to ensure they read and act on communication sent out from the office, Facebook and from teachers to keep up to date with events and happenings at school.
Also, this term as we finalise staffing and class groupings for next year we need families to communicate any changes with us early, so that this planning can be as accurate as possible. If you are leaving our school at the end of the year I encourage you to inform the office as soon as possible. Likewise, if you know of families moving into the area to enrol for next year that we do this early so that they can be part of the class placement process, as this allows us to cater for each students’ needs as accurately as possible.
BUILDING UPDATE
The new building is progressing well and is still on track for a mid-November completion. The furniture and effects have been ordered and are on track for an end of November delivery, which will allow us time to get settled into the new classrooms etc ready for next year. We are looking to put our middle years classes (Yr 2/3/4) into the new building next year to enable all of our teaching teams to be near each other, as currently some of our middle years teams are separated through the geography of our school. We are really excited to take over the building and also to get our oval area returned for next year.
Last week, the leadership team were offered our first tour through the buildings- which was really exciting. Below are some pictures of our tour.
CAMP QUALITY PUPPET SHOW
This week we will have a visit from the Camp Quality Puppet Show to help our students understand what it is like living with childhood Cancer and the treatments, in support of a young student in our school community. The show aims to dispel myths and misconceptions that are commonly associated with cancer. The puppets tell an interactive and engaging narrative that explains:
- The ins and outs of cancer
- The importance of recognising our own strengths and the power of positivity
- Why it is important to be supportive of their classmate who is either living with cancer or has a family member with cancer
- That cancer isn’t contagious so it is ok to play
Much thanks to Chappy Sarah for her work in liaising with Camp Quality to bring this opportunity to our school.

CLASS PREFERENCES 2023
A reminder that the class preference request form, where parents have an opportunity to provide some feedback around class placements for their children for next year, needs to be submitted by the close of this week, as we commence the process with teachers in readiness for next year. This is not about selecting a teacher, as we do not have staffing finalised or teacher placements finalised until later in the year, but it is an opportunity to make us aware of any special information around learning styles, style of teacher and style of classroom and also re students to be placed with or otherwise. Whilst we take on board the feedback, of course there is no guarantee that all requests can be actioned, as ultimately, we have to make the best placements conducive to teaching and learning for all students. The form is attached and can be completed digitally and emailed to the Principal email or returned in hard copy to the office.
STAFFING
At the end of this week, Lauren Miceli will commence her maternity leave for the next year. We welcome Belinda Paton from Kelvin Grove SC to this role. Currently, Donagh McKenzie is on Long Service Leave and she has been backfilled by Belinda Paton for the past two weeks. Also, at the end of this week, Business Manager, Leanne Haslam will commence two weeks Long Service Leave and she will be replaced by Ellie Mastrapostolos, who joins us from Everton Park SHS. Ellie has been assisting two days per week as additional Admin support for the past two weeks, and this additional support will continue for the remainder of the term.
The first round of transfers for both the requested and required transfer processes for 2023 have been announced. I can now announce that we have some movement of staff through the required process where the Region targeted teachers who have been 5-10 years in their current school and were made permanent at that school on the undertaking that they would complete some rural/remote/unfavourable service and have not done so thus far. Under this proviso unfortunately we are losing two valued staff members in Alex Osborn, who has been transferred to Mitchelton SS and also Melissa Wilcox who has been transferred to Eatons Hill SS. Replacing them in this process are Richard Lim from Aspley East SS and Tamara Dowling from Ithaca Creek SS.
Under the requested process we have had Jasmine Hunt transferred in from Toogoolawah SS to cover the growth in expected enrolments for next year due to 60 new Preps commencing and only 38 Year 6 students departing for high school, which means we will naturally grow to 15 classes for 2023.
We also have some staff returning from maternity leave, including Alison Leeson, Laura Arthur and Shalana Rossiter, who will all return in a part time capacity for 2023.
With the increase in classes we require a full time HPE Teacher for 2023 which Andrew Woodrick has been appointed to permanently to at our school for next year. Jo Jardine will work full time from Stafford Heights SS next year.
As it is still early in the staffing process, there may still be some further changes for next year.
PREP ENROLMENTS
We are planning for three Prep classes again next year at ESS, as we have enrolled nearly 60 new Prep students to our school. We encourage families to finalise enrolments ready for the 2023 Prep transition and information sessions to be held on November 2 and 16 commencing at 9am at EPAC.
If you have a Prep student to enrol for next year please contact the office and book an enrolment interview prior to the transition mornings.
Please pass on this information to families who are looking at our school for 2023.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
Deputy Principal Pen
Welcome back to Term 4! I hope that everyone had a great holiday! I spent every day of my holidays enjoying my new puppy, Sheba! Needless to say, there were lots of cuddles and trying to teach her the rules of our home! It was certainly a lovely way to spend the holidays! I am happy to be back at school for a busy Term Four and am looking forward to the many exciting events that occur during this term including Book Fair, Swimming Carnivals, Roll Up Afternoon, Student Leadership and the Year 6 Graduation.
Luther Heights Camp – Year 5/6
I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Year 5/6 Camp at Luther Heights at Coolum from Monday to Wednesday this week. Despite the rainy start on Monday, the students had a wonderful time participating in a range of activities including the Flying Fox, Koala Tree Climb, Low Ropes Course, Orienteering, Raft Building and going to the beach – to name a few! The food was delicious and the view from the common room was beautiful. A special thanks must go to Mr Roxburgh, Mr Woodrick and Mrs Hall for attending camp with their classes and providing the students with this fantastic experience! Mr Roxburgh entertained us with a special performance of an Irish Jig!
At the end of last term, most of the events for Term Four were uploaded onto our Facebook page. These can be located in the events tab down the side of our newsfeed. Please take a moment to go through the events and add them to your diary to allow plenty of time to prepare your schedule so you don’t miss out on anything! Remember also, that the more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. Messages and questions on our Facebook page can be overlooked, so this is not the quickest and most reliable way of getting clarification around school events. It is always best to ring the office or email the class teacher.
Assembly
Due to the Year 5/6 Camp in Week 2, Assembly was postponed until Week 3. Assemblies will then continue each even week from Week 4 until the end of the year. The last assembly of the year is the Principal’s Awards Assembly and will be held at 9:00am on Monday 5th December.
Student Leaders 2023
Next week, Mrs Robinson and I will launch the Student Leadership Process for the 2023 leadership positions. Students will be provided with an information package if they are interested in applying for a position including School Captain, House Captain, Arts Captain or Student Council Chairperson. The students will be required to write a letter of application and complete a criteria card to submit. Applicants are encouraged, but not expected to attend leadership workshops with Mrs Robinson and I from Week 3 – Week 6 on Thursday at second break.
Day for Daniel
Once again, Enoggera State School will be supporting Day for Daniel on Friday 28th October. Students will be permitted to wear a red shirt to school on this day in support of Day for Daniel and the Student Council will collect gold coin donations from students to donate to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. There will be a “Dance for Daniel Disco” on the concrete in front of the Year 1 classrooms and our Enoggera DJ Mr Roxburgh will get everyone dancing from 8:15 to 8:45am! Parents are welcome to attend.
Student Council Fundraising
This term, the Student Council will be running meal deals. We are hoping to run two throughout the term. These will be held on a Thursday (between the 2 tuckshop days). The Student Council is meeting this week to decide on what meals they would like to offer the students. More information will be posted on Facebook and notes sent home as well. Thank you for your ongoing support of the Student Council as they fundraise for their Legacy Gift to the school.
Morning Routines
A friendly reminder that under C Block (Year 2A and Prep B) is out of bounds before school for children and adults. All students are to be waiting under D Block before school unless they are with a parent. Students in the care of their own parent are required to wait under E Block. For duty of care, all other areas are out of bounds as they are not supervised before school. When students are waiting with parents, it is important that are expected to remain seated and to not run around playing, to keep our ‘before school expectations’ consistent for all students. Thanks for your assistance with our morning routines.

What an exciting start to Term 4!
On Friday Year 3 and Year 4 students were finally able to participate in Sports Games Rotations. Mrs Jardine had explained that this Middle school activity had been in the pipeline for sometime but had been postponed due to Covid.
Blessed with amazing weather, students engaged in developing skills in 3 sports Volleyball, Cricket and Touch footy. These Sports Rotations will continue for the next two consecutive Fridays.
Thank you to Mrs Jardine for the overall coordination of this specific sports development program and to the classroom Teachers who coached students through the activities.
A special thank you to the students who brought positive attitudes, energy and enthusiasm to participate and learn new skills.
Interschool Sport
Our year 5 & 6 Students participated in the first Friday of Interschool Sport (Gala Sport) last week with two more Fridays to go. Teams participated in Girls Touch, Boys Touch and T20 Cricket. Everyone did a great job. Thanks to Mr Roxburgh, Mrs Hall, Mr Woodrick and Mr Taylour who supported the students during these activities – including where needed umpiring or refereeing games.
Reminder that everyone needs to be bringing their hats, water bottles, lunch and sunscreen. There were some canteen facilities available at some venues with limited items – it is important that they bring their lunch to ensure they are fuelling their bodies well and any canteen purchases supplement their lunches not replacing them.
Buses were a little late last week to leave in the morning but the bus company has confirmed they have moved our pickup in their scheduling and depending on traffic should be at school for our 8.30 pick up.
Year 3 & 4 Sport
Our year 3 & 4 students participated in their first week of our sports skills program. All year 3 & 4 students spent our middle session and afternoon session out on the oval and multipurpose court rotating through three separate sports each week. This will happen while our year 5 & 6 classes are out at Gala sports. Our focus for the program are the three sports that our year 5 & 6 students are able to participate in at Interschool programs during the course of the year. They include: Volleyball, Touch and T20 Cricket. Thanks to Mrs Harris , Mrs Wharton and Mrs Kerr for supporting our program.
During week 1 – students focused on skills for each sport, week 2 will work on additional skills and start introducing modified game play and in week 3 it is planned that they focus more on modified game play.
Swimming
Swimming has started for this term – thanks to everyone who has been bringing their equipment as needed each week. Another thanks to parents who have been notifying us if their child is unable to participate in swimming.
We are still looking for help from parents in all of our Prep to year 2 space with some classes in more urgent need of help. Thanks so much to those who have already volunteered and are coming along we can’t do it without you. If you are able to help either for one lesson or maybe each week please email either Mrs Jardine at jjard16@eq.edu.au or Mrs Prill tkfar0@eq.edu.au . Adult support in these age groups makes a huge difference to our programs.

In Term 3, the Senior Robotics students participated in the VEX IQ Robotics Challenge. The students formed six super keen teams and met weekly to complete a 20-minute robotics challenge. Teams earned points by solving part or all of the weekly problem. Congratulations to the winning team, Gigabytes Bits (Mimi, Lexi, Heidi and Lara). The winning team will receive a certificate at assembly and an item from the tuckshop. Well done.
In Junior Robotics, students have been exploring the new VEX GO floor robots. The robots connect to the iPads via Bluetooth and the software has a similar interface to the popular program, Scratch. It is fantastic to see students engaged and having fun!
Developing student ICT capability is a priority at ESS. Well done to our Prep students on learning how to sign into our school network and work with a MOUSE. The students have participated in some basic online coding. They are currently having fun creating some art in Paint 3D. Keep up the great work Preps!
Mrs Melissa Wilcox
Feed the worms.
Food, Food and more food. Our worms are in desperate need of food scraps. Please send your scraps to school. Your child can empty the scraps straight into the tumble bin or into a “Feed the Worm” container.
Containers for Change:
Containers for Change is up and running families. Please donate your containers and help your little darlings understand how to recycle their containers to raise money for special resources in our school..
Purple wheelie bins are located in all the student eating areas for your convenience. It would also be nice if you can speak to your child about emptying the container before placing it in the wheelie bin. One full container of milk will contaminate the whole wheelie bin.
Soft Plastics.
We are now recycling “Soft Plastics”. Chip packets, cling wrap, clip seal bags, anything that can be scrunched up and will stay in a bit of a ball. The only soft plastic that cannot be recycled is the black coloured packages. All soft plastics are returned to Coles and Woolworths – they have a collection bin at the front of the stores.

Thank you, families, for sharing a lovely breakfast with staff across the road! It was great to celebrate this wonderful performing arts project together. Again, thank you for all the amazing community contributions that helped to make our students shine.
Wakakirri has forwarded a special Certificate of Excellence for our students to acknowledge their wonderful performance at the Awards Showcase. We look forward to awarding this certificate to participating students at a future assembly.
The team has one final performance for the year at Arts on Stage, EPAC, Friday 18th November 6.15pm. We would love all students to participate. Please let us know should your child be unable to join us.

The P&C would like the thank Lynelle for her commitment to this role over the last 18mths and her unwavering support and volunteering to ESS, which most of the time was above and beyond her formal role.
