Anzac Day Public Holiday Community March at Gaythorne RSL |
Dear Parent and Caregivers,
As we draw another busy term at ESS to a close, we thank our wonderful community for your unwavering support again this term. It is a great opportunity to take stock over the vacation and reflect on the achievements thus far for 2023 in preparation for Term 2.
On assembly this week I introduced our new Learning Curve focus for the week which is about ‘Living by Giving’ where we encourage our students to give of themselves through asking if someone is ok, a smile, friendly body language, kind words or doing something nice for someone else, as this not only makes the person feel good but also makes you feel good too. We encouraged the students over the holidays to try this out with family and reflect on how it made them feel after doing something nice for someone.
We wish everyone a happy holiday and look forward to seeing everyone back ready for Term 2 on Monday, 17th April.
CROSS COUNTRY
Thank you to all of the parents who came to school to view the Cross-Country event on Monday. It was lovely to have it back at our school after a hiatus due to the building works last year, COVID and wet weather and also for the whole school to be able to run in the event. The organising committee have already recognised that there were some safety issues with the course due to the changed landscape, so we will be reviewing this for next time and will take the WH&S recommendations on board to ensure a safer run for all next year.
Congratulations to Waratah for their win in the first of the inter-house activities for the year. It was lovely to see the captains receive their shield on assembly in the afternoon and to give their speeches and perform a final war cry.
YMCA GOOD BYE
This week as we farewell the YMCA OSHC service provider and prepare for Camp Australia to take over it was lovely to farewell YMCA in style on assembly. We presented the staff with some beautiful thank you cards for the classes, some Enoggera memorabilia and we finished off with a whole school rendition of YMCA, actions and all. We thank YMCA for their 18 years of dedicated service to this school community and wish the staff well in their future endeavours. There will be a farewell BBQ on the oval after school on Friday to farewell YMCA for the families who have used the service.
HOLIDAY FACILITIES
The work on the multipurpose roof project will commence from the South Pine Rd entrance to the school over the holidays. Also happening in the holidays are some other key works under the Refresh Program where the DoE have provided the school funds to do essential refresh works. We are having the concreting under D Block and the front entrance to the school refreshed with coloured spray-crete and also the bike entrance from Laurel St redone to make a ramp and full path to the bike cage and B Block steps for bikes, prams and all-weather access. We will also be getting the outside of the library near the multi-purpose court repainted after the roof goes on. This has been a great project as for $20 000 we get $63 000 worth of works done. There are also contractors on site doing works to water damage in the Library and EPAC following the last torrential rain.
FULL SCHOOL REVIEW
We currently have three reviewers from the Education Improvement Branch in our school undertaking our compulsory four-year full school review of our teaching and learning programs and processes. They will provide a report to the school and community which will become part of our quadrennial school review next term and will then direct our next four-year Strategic Plan. They spend the time talking with staff, parents, partners and leadership to develop some affirmations of the great work we are doing and then also to provide some recommendations for the next works we should do to get the next lift in our performance.
P AND C AGM
Last night at our P and C Annual General Meeting and General Meeting it was great to see the current executive all voted back in for another term. Thank you and congratulations to the continuing executive team of: President- Dean Collings, Vice-President - Khesanh Brock, Treasurer- Debbie Brauer and Secretary- Chrissie Maher. I look forward to working with them again this year to continue to progress our wonderful ‘Big Little School’ to enable our students to ‘Achieve Success at ESS’.
ANZAC DAY
Next term in the second week back we will hold our very important school ANZAC service at the front of our school on Monday 24th April at 9am. Our school will then march in the Gaythorne RSL march on ANZAC day. We encourage our students to ensure they are in full school uniform for our ANZAC service (not house shirts) and that as many students attend the march to represent their school and pay their respects to those who have fought and lost their lives on ANZAC Day. Our School Leaders will be selling ANZAC badges in the mornings under D Block in the first week of school from 8:15am. They will be selling for 50c for fabric stickers for students for 50c and fabric pinned badges for adults at $2.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
HAPPY EASTER
It is hard to believe that it has already been 10 weeks since we welcomed our students to the new school year. It has been a busy term at Enoggera State School with swimming lessons, the cross country, moving into the new building, Parent Teacher Interviews, Student Leaders’ Induction ceremony and great learning happening in all of our classrooms. Staff have worked hard to provide the best learning and experiences for your children throughout the term. It is now time for a well-earned break over the Easter holidays. BEFORE SCHOOL REMINDERS
A friendly reminder to parents, that students are not permitted on school grounds prior to 8:15am in the morning unless they are attending OHSC. There are an increasing number of students arriving prior to 8am to meet up with friends. There are no staff on supervision duty until 8:15am, so for safety we request that students avoid arriving prior to this time. Thanks for your support with this.
You will notice that Term Two events will start to be posted on our Facebook Page in the coming weeks. A reminder that you can see upcoming events at any time by clicking on the ‘Events’ tab at the top of our FB page. In the interest of privacy, we ask that parents do not refer to students by name on the FB page in the comment section. Thanks for your ongoing support of our school FB page.
Stop, Drop and Go
If there are car parks available, we ask that parents park in the marked car park spaces rather than along the stop, drop and go zone when dropping off and collecting students from OHSC. Parked cars in this area makes it very difficult for staff and other parents to reverse out safely to exit the car park. It also hinders the ability to clearly see students in this area making it unsafe. Thanks for your attention to this safety concern.
Uniform
As we finally move into the cooler months, a reminder that students are expected to wear a school jumper (available at the uniform shop) or a plain blue jumper. Students are not permitted to wear hoodies to school. If your child needs new shoes, please remember that our uniform policy is for plain black shoes with white socks. For those who are unaware, lost property is located under A Block near the uniform shop. Please ensure that you have checked the lost property if your child is unable to find their hat etc. Thanks for your support of the school dress code.
Easter Bonnet Parade
The Preps and Year 1s will participate in an Easter Bonnet Parade on the last day of the term, this Friday 31st March from 9:00am. Parents/carers are welcome to attend. Bonnets will be made by teachers at school for this event. The parade will be held on the multipurpose court. Please bring your hats and water bottles as it is expected to be warm. Parents will be asked to assemble at the South Pine Road end of the courts and the students will be lined up at the oval end. Each class will ‘parade’ in front of the parents doing two ‘laps’ of the court. We look forward to a lovely end of the term with our Easter Bonnet Parade.
Before/After School Procedures
A reminder that students waiting with parents before school under C Block are to be seated as this is not a play area. Currently there are many students running around and playing in this area of the school before school. This is not a play area at any time of the school day. If students waiting with parents would like to skip or play handball, they are welcome to move over to the Astroturf area from 8:30am under the supervision of our staff on duty. Parents are asked to wait under C Block until students return to line up.
After school, the playgrounds are actually leased by the OHSC provider. For this reason, parents are asked not to stop off to allow their children to play in the playgrounds on the school grounds. Thanks for your understanding with these procedures in our school.
MSP Photography
School photos are scheduled for the first Friday of Term 2. A timetable will be shared via Facebook and email with times for class photos, sibling photos and group photos (eg Student Leaders). Envelopes have been sent home for parents to order their photo packs. These envelopes are to be returned on the day of the photos.
NAPLAN Testing has now been completed. A big congratulations to our students on their punctuality and attendance throughout the testing period with 96% of Year 3 and 98% of Year 5 students completing Reading, Writing Conventions of Language and Numeracy Tests. We are very proud of their efforts! Results will be provided via Individual Student Reports later in the year.
Parent Teacher Interviews
A big thank you to our parents and caregivers for booking interviews to discuss your child’s learning to date. An amazing 338 interviews were booked within 4 hours of the system opening. This equates to 96% take up of the Parent Teacher Interview Process. Well Done Enoggera!
Book Club
Edition 2 of book club has arrived and been handed out to students to enjoy over the holidays. Edition 3 will be provided to students early next term.
Term 2 Learning
Term 2 Class letters and Curriculum Overviews will be provided by the end of Week 2 Term 2. The overview is a handy document to provide a snapshot of learning occurring. The aim of this document is to keep parents involved in learning and provide opportunities for students to ask students about their learning.
Happy Holidays Everyone!

Congratulations to our returning Executive Committee for 2023. Dean, Khesanh, Chrissy and Debbie are excited to see out yet another year as part of the P&C and are looking froward to finally seeing the roof project finished and starting on some new and exciting projects for this year!
We will be hosting another P&C members night in Term 2 - we would like to get to know some of our members who we might not have had a lot of face-to-face time with, and members who aren't always available to physically volunteer, and our regular supporters and those that are new to the P&C. Growing a community like ours is essential to keeping the P&C running to ensure valuable resources for our children can be facilitated through our fundraising efforts. Class Swimming
Thank you to all of our parents in the lower years who have been continually attending and supporting their students in the swimming lessons this term. I really appreciate your support in the classes as it allows more quality time with assisting the students.
This is our last week of swimming until Term 4.
Inter House Cross Country
Our interhouse cross country was held on Monday. It was a warm morning, but it was great to see so many smiling faces (even from those runners who were totally exhausted). Well done to all runners, you did yourselves and your houses very proud.
The winner of our first carnival for the year is… Waratah!!!. It was such a close competition all day long and it could have gone either way. Well done everyone. It will be very interesting to see how the other two annual carnivals go this year.
Competitive runners who were able to complete the cross country without walking will be invited to the City District Cross Country. Keep an eye out for the paperwork this week.
Finally, a massive thanks to the dedicated students in grade 6 who gave up their lunchtime to assist in packing down the carnival. It’s so great to see many students willing to help, I really appreciated your extra effort team.

Recycling Stations
We have set up our recycling stations around the school. It is very exciting to see the children trying to think about where their rubbish belongs. While there is no soft plastics recycling at this time, it is good to continue the sorting ready for its reintroduction.
We are now sorting our waste into paper (Monday) which is being used in the tumble bins to feed the worms, cardboard (Tuesday) which goes to a special recycling agency, our containers for change (Wednesday), general recycling (Thursday) and then our general rubbish and gardening on Fridays.
