Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As all of the assessment and reporting is finalised for this semester we are right in the thick of ‘Events Week’ which includes the Principal’s Award’s Assembly, Jnr and Snr Sports Days, Slime Run for Chaplaincy and the Under 8’s morning on the last morning of term. What a week! We will all need a rest after this one!
CULMINATING ACTIVITIES
It was great to see some our classes conducting culminating activities this week to showcase the students learning from the semester. We had Yr 2 students showcasing their toy cars and how they move and then the Yr 4 students showcasing their pin ball games in a pin ball parlour complete with entry tickets and snacks. Much thanks to the parents who must have been very busy helping some of the students produce such professional machines. I got to play them and they were fantastic.
Our Yr 5/6 Digital Technology students have also created mazes using the Scratch program and these have been saved on the Student Sharepoint site so they can be shared with parents. Again, there are some talented students with great coding skills.
INTERHOUSE ATHLETICS CARNIVALS
It was great to see all of our students giving the athletics events their best this week as we conducted the annual interhouse athletics competition. After 2 ½ full days of competition and participation, today we met in EPAC to announce the final points and the winners of the age champion medallions.
I am pleased to announce that in a very tight competition the final points were:
Waratah-655
Banksia-565
Congratulations Waratah!
The age champions were:
9yrs girls-Rose Turner, 10yrs girls- Ivy Atkins, 11yrs girls-Isla Miller, 12yrs girls Alexia Taylor
9ys boys-Colin Buttenshaw, 10ys boys-Lachlan Bebel, 11yrs boys -Nicholas Cabrera, 12yrs boys-Ashton Poole
Congratulations to the age champions and a big thankyou to the staff, especially Mr Woodrick, who put in many hours of preparation for the carnivals this week.
SOCIAL MEDIA GUIDELINES
With so many events on this week it is timely to remind parents around their responsibilities around media and also social media, as I have had concerns raised with me that some parents are taking photographs of others’ children at school events and are posting them on their own social media or are sharing the school Facebook images on other social media accounts. Whilst we have permission to photograph and post most of our students on our school social media account, this does not cover parents saving them from there or reposting them. The DoE guidelines for parents and the community around Social Media can be found below but it is particularly important to point out this section. https://behaviour.education.qld.gov.au/resources-publications/Documents/social-media-and-community-online.pdf
MULTI-PURPOSE ROOF
It is looking like practical completion for the roof project will be straight after the holidays so we anticipate getting back the use by the end of the first week. We are still waiting to hear if we can go ahead with the lights with funding from the Stronger Communities Grant. We are also waiting on two other rounds of funding from the Gaming Benefit Fund Grant for a new Prep playground which will be announced in October and also the Go For Gold grant for the heating of our school pool and this will be announced later in the yar also.
UNDER EIGHTS DAY
A reminder that Under Eights morning on Friday is shaping up to be a great morning with many of our local Kindies joining us a well as the Everton Park Library, Everton Park State High School and the Emergency Services. Of course, the morning does not work without the generous support of parents to supervise small groups of students around the activities, as the teachers are busy running the activities on the morning. AS reminder that parents of our students do not need a Blue Card (Working with Children) to help out but any other helpers such as grandparents do require a Blue Card to volunteer. A reminder to volunteers to ensure they sign in at the office before reporting to the class teacher to be allocated their groups. Groups will need to stay with their adult for the morning as they negotiate the activities on offer.
FULL SCHOOL REVIEW
I would like to share a second of the five key affirmations from our recent school review. These affirmations were listed in the Executive Summary.
A collective commitment to inclusion and success for all students underpins the mission and values of the school community.
Staff recognise that each learner has diverse and changing learning needs, and are dedicated to supporting them to reach their potential. A variety of data-gathering methods are used to identify where students are in their learning and the next steps in teaching. Targeted teaching, teacher aide support, ability groupings, and differentiated expectations are amongst the most widely utilised adjustments. Many parents observe how teachers change their classroom practice to ensure their child is successful.
Again, this was wonderful to have affirmed for our school staff and is very positive feedback.
PERFORMING ARTS WINTER SOIREE
It was wonderful last fortnight to attend the Performing Arts Department Winter Soiree. It was great to see the progress our performing groups have made thus far this year and to provide them with an opportunity for a mid-year performance. Much thanks must go to the Performing Arts staff of Mrs Rees, Miss Dunstan and Mrs Harle for their work in preparing our groups and organising this evening of entertainment with a packed EPAC.
ROBO CUP JUNIOR AUSTRALIA CHALLENGE
On Saturday (June 10) we had some of our Senior Robotics students attending the 2023 ROBO Cup Junior Australia Challenge at Somerville House for the first time. They entered into the On-Stage Novice section as they used their new Wakakirri finale dance as their inspiration for choreographing their robots to perform the routine. They had a great day but were over the moon when we were notified after the event that there had been an error in the judging and they had actually come 3rd amongst some very stiff private school competition. Well-done team and to Mr Harris for his work with these students. I hope you were able to check out the video of their performance, which we uploaded to our Facebook account.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Our next round of Parent Teacher Interviews will be after the holidays in week 4 of term on Tuesday, August 1st in EPAC from 3:15-7:30pm. More information about booking an interview with your child’s class teacher via SOBS will come out after the holidays. These interviews are a great opportunity to discuss the Semester One report card and to make plans for further improvement in Semester Two.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
On Friday 16 June a special assembly was held to award students from each class who had achieved consistent academic effort, displayed positive behaviour or take pride in our school.

NAIDOC Celebrations
To celebrate NAIDOC Week 2nd – 9th July 2023 students will have the opportunity to attend the Googabinj show on Wednesday 12th July from 9:15 – 10:05am in EPAC.
The show starts with a story about a young boy who is so uncontrollable that the tribe send him off to his uncle, a wise tribal elder who helps teach the boy about respecting and caring for the land and its’ animals.
Thoughout the story the artist displays his wonderful collection of native artefacts and weapons and demonstrates how his hunter gatherer ancestors made very effective hunting tools like the boomerang, spear, nulla nulla and woomera from the natural environment.
Students are taught traditional greetings and guess which animals and birds are being impersonated on colourful didgeridoos.
The cost of this show will be $5.50 per student.
Payments must be received by the School No Later the Monday 10th July for children to attend.
This term, we have been learning how to create force using push and pull. We designed toy cars and used recycled resources to build them. We made predictions about how our toy would move.
We then tested our toys cars on different surfaces. We observed that friction would change how fast our car would move.
Our cars moved faster on smooth surfaces and slower on carpet, grass and sand.
We really loved creating our cars and completing the investigations!
Thanks for a great term 2.
The junior carnival was held on Tuesday and was so much fun.
Thanks to all the participants, you all tried your best at all the activities. Well done!!!
Special thanks to all the teacher and teacher aide support too. The days would not have been a success if you did not get in and help.
Finally, thanks to the parents who came and cheered the little champions on, I’m sure there were some tired bodies at the end of the day.
The senior carnival was on Thursday, so look out for an event recap next term.
Have a well-deserved break, and I’ll see you next term.
Andrew Woodrick

Defence Kids HQ Club
Defence Loose Parts Initiative:
This fortnight, our Defence Kids HQ students have been busy making lots of arts and craft from loose part items. We try to incorporate this also into our Defence club, so that children can see the wonderful uses of recycling of loose part items. We welcome all types of loose part items here in Defence Kids HQ for the purpose of variety and access to a range of craft items. As a Defence Club, we would be very grateful if families in our Enoggera community, have any boxes, ice-cream containers, buttons, milk bottle caps, just about anything you could recycle, we would be very grateful to take them off your hands and add to our Loose parts library for our defence students to re-use?. Please see photos from the last fortnight where our defence students have created lots of different masterpieces from loose part items. Don’t we have some creative children here at Enoggera State School.
Defence leadership roles and acknowledging students’ strengths:
One way that we can help to foster 21st century skills, is through leadership roles. Miss Laura stepped away from the preparation of the Defence Kids HQ club last Tuesday and gave some of our senior defence students the opportunity to plan and organise defence club with her assistance. Our senior defence students Dakoda and Olivia worked together and planned a nature scavenger hunt for our younger defence students. This was a keen interest of both girls and they believed the importance of encouraging students to be involved in the outdoors to increase student wellbeing and engagement.
This week two of our Senior Defence students Kai and Toby, planned a Dino Dig Excavation for our younger defence students. Our younger students were excited to find hidden dinosaurs in eggs which they needed to excavate in pairs. Kai brought in some volcanic obsidian stones and amber fossil to share with our defence students. They were particularly fascinated that these originated back to prehistoric dinosaur times. All of our senior students have done a fantastic job over the last night ensuring all resources were prepared for the scavenger hunt and dinosaur dig. This is something that will be encouraged throughout the rest of the school year, supporting our defence students in their leadership roles to feel confident to share their talents and strengths with other defence peers. This encourages and builds confidence, cooperation, resilience and most importantly teamwork.
