Dear Parent and Caregivers,
MULTI-PURPOSE COURT
It was very exciting news on the holidays to finally receive the certification through for the multi-purpose court roof project. We were able to get the handover completed and started using the court on the first day back of school. The students are really enjoying making use of this space again, especially for their half court basketball games they enjoy playing. Mr Woodrick has also been using the court for his HPE lessons. SLICE Tennis Coaching are also back on the court and we have received lots of interest from other external hirers wanting to use the court out of hours.
We are very grateful to our P&C Association, including past and present P&C Executive Members and our whole school community who have backed this project from its inception, long before my arrival at the school in 2020. They have worked together to fundraise tirelessly over the years to get this roof completed. With many set backs along the way including, possible moving of the court, COVID and the massive increase in the price of steel, the shortage of construction workers to the fire certification issues due to the close proximity to the library and private residences, causing the project to blow out from the original cost of a $350 000 roof to finally $763 000, which also included much pairing back to original designs.
But again, we are most grateful to MODCON construction, our school community and also the SSS (Smart School Subsidy) Grant that provided the maximum grant of $500 000 as compared to the $178 000 which was originally granted to the project.
All in all, it has been a wonderful team effort to get it done and it will be a great addition to our school well into the future, as it makes that space a much more useable space throughout the year for our students to play and learn on.
2024 ENROLMENTS
We have almost completed conducting our in-catchment Prep Enrolment Meetings for 2024. If you are in catchment and are still wishing to enrol and have not had an enrolment meeting as yet, the SOBS system is still open to book a time until Friday of this week through the link below. After that date any enrolment meetings will need to be booked through the ADMIN office. Open SOBS using the following link.
https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70109
If you know of anyone that is still to enrol for next year, please encourage them to get their paperwork in and to make a booking.
We are also now in the process of assessing the out-of-catchment waiting list for Prep for next year to offer interviews to some out of catchment families, to ensure we finalise enrolments prior to the Prep Transition mornings on Friday, November 3 and 17.
On those morning the 2024 Prep students will participate in a morning of activities in class whilst the parents participate in Prep Information sessions in EPAC. The Transition mornings go from 9-11am on each of the days. The P&C will run a special uniform shop with additional access on those mornings.
ARTS ON STAGE
A reminder that our annual Arts on Stage show will be held in EPAC on Thursday evening 9 November 2023.
We look forward to our team providing the whole school community with a final viewing of this years entry at our Arts on Stage evening next term. All of our performing arts groups are working hard on their repertoirs in rediness for this evening.
Our new Performing Arts shirts were kept for Wakakirri but are now available for all of our Performing Arts students to purchase. It would be great to see as many students as possible performing on the night in the new Performing Arts shirt with the standard performance uniform of long black dress pants (not leggings), their all black school shoes with black socks. Next year the shirt will be the compulsory uniform for all students signing up for the extra-curricula Performing Arts groups, including Instrumental Music, Choirs, Recorder Band, Dance Ensembles etc.
2023 YEAR BOOK
Again, this year we are producing a Year Book of the 2023 school year at Enoggera State School. This book is a great memory book of the year and is available to purchase by our families. It includes class pages and pages on all of our school events and activities throughout the year. It also includes a special focus on our graduates. The book is gifted to our graduating students at the graduation ceremony in the last week of school and will also be available for collection for families who order and pay for one prior.
The cost this year is $30, it is a little larger than last years book at 90 colour pages. If you wish to purchase the year book please complete the order form attached and return to the office with payment before Friday, December 1, so that you do not miss out. As we only have 62 available this year, the first 62 families who order will receive their copy before the holidays. A further order can be placed after that for delivery at the start of school next year.

SMART DEVICES AND MOBILE PHONES IN SCHOOLS
A reminder that as per new education guidelines passed across all states, no student is allowed to have a mobile phone or smart device on them at school, this includes smart watches. This means that all mobile phones and smart devices are handed in to the office at the commencement of the school day. These items will be stored in the safe for safe keeping throughout the day, this includes smart watch's, even if they have the facility to turn off the data access throughout the school day. Please ensure you are compliant with this as disciplinary consequences can be enforced if not followed, as per our Student Code of Conduct.
CYBER-SAFETY
It has come to our attention that many of our students are using over 13 yr old applications on smart devices and computers at home outside of school and we have been dealing with a range of bullying and unkind behaviours online. As per our Student Code of Conduct, again disciplinary consequences can be applied at school for outside of school behaviours by our students if they impact on students at this school.
We are currently in the process of co-ordinating an incursion for our Yr 5/6 students and also an evening session for parents around cyber-safety and things we can all be doing to safe guard our students online. Notes will be going home shortly re these sessions.
NAPLAN 2024
In readiness for the next round of NAPLAN testing in Year 3 and 5 in March of 2024 we have started some familiarisation work and lessons on the digital platform each week with Mr Harris to ensure our students are in the best position to demonstrate their skills in aspects of Literacy and Numeracy in next years test. Shortly we will be running a parent information session re the types of things we are doing with the students in preparation and things you can follow up on home and how the testing system works.
CHESS COMPETITION
Unfortunately, the Interschool Chess competition has been postponed whilst we try to liaise with Chess Mates to find a suitable date for us to host the competition here. In the interim, Mr Taylour is running our Chess club as a lunch time activity and some of our students have lessons in Chess next door at the church each week with Chess Mates.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal

Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars including Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around our Safety Pillar focusing on playing safely in the right place at the right time:
- Following the rules of the games
- Being a good sport at soccer
- Following the play roster
With the opening of the multipurpose court, we have put a play roster into place for the senior school to help monitor the numbers on the court. This will be in place for the first few weeks of term to ensure the court isn’t overcrowded. Our red card system for play time out has been working well with a significant reduction in the amount of physical altercations at break times.
Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. Click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events.
The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office.
Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.
Please remember to never make comments on the page referencing a child’s name for privacy reasons.
Student Leaders 2024
Next week, Mrs Robinson and I will launch the Student Leadership Process for the 2024 leadership positions. Students will be provided with an information package if they are interested in applying for a position including School Captain, House Captain, Arts Captain or Student Council Chairperson (Vice Captain). The students will be required to write a letter of application and complete a criteria card to submit. Applicants are encouraged, but not expected to attend leadership workshops with Mrs Robinson and I from Week 3 – Week 6 on Thursday at second break.
Day for Daniel
Once again, Enoggera State School will be supporting Day for Daniel on Friday 27th October. Students will be permitted to wear a red shirt to school on this day in support of Day for Daniel and the Student Council will collect gold coin donations from students to donate to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. There will be a “Dance for Daniel Disco” on the AstroTurf in front of the Prep A veranda and our Chappy Twinkee will get everyone dancing from at second break.
Morning Routines
Late last term, we restricted before school play as the behaviour of the students had not been following our expectations. The students were introduced to before school play at 8:30am in the last couple of weeks of term. With the beginning of the new term, all students who want to are permitted to play before school from 8:30am. The only options include skipping and handball.
Students who do not wish to play either of these options, are required to sit in their designated area under D Block, and are not permitted to wander around. We hope that the students will follow the expecations so that play can continue this term.
Uniform Reminder
A reminder that students are required to wear ALL black shoes to school as part our Dress Code. Socks should be white only. As we begin our last term of the year, it is important that we maintain our dress code at all times. For our older students who are interested in applying for leadership positions, adherence to the dress code is taken into account in their application. As the weather warms up, please ensure that your children are bringing their water bottles and hats to school every day!
Student Council News
Last term, the Student Council held a Pizza Meal Deal which raised $330 towards their legacy item. They also organised a fundraiser for the Kid’s Cancer Council and raised $260 towards this important cause. It was wonderful to see so many pirates at school on the last day! The Student Council will be meeting this week to discuss their plans for the term ahead. Thanks for your ongoing support.
Ms Tina Burrows
Deputy Principal
Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Just a reminder that full payment for the Year 5/6 camp was due on the 15th of September. Payment deadlines are required to ensure we have correct numbers for camp and other excursions/incursions.
In the future all invoice’s will close on their payment deadline date, so please keep an eye on your emails for invoices and QParents. If you receive a permission form from your classroom teacher, please check to see if there is a finance element so that your student doesn’t miss out. All permission forms and medical consents for camp 2023 need to be returned to the office not the classroom teacher.
I would also like to apologise for the issues some parents may have encountered around GALA sports and the permission forms. All excursions/incursions that have a finance aspect require the permission forms to be return to the office only or emailed to admin@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . Please do not send these to individual teachers, or administration staff individually so that they can be monitored and collated correctly.
Again, if you believe you may have a credit on file, please don’t hesitate to contact me to apply these credits to outstanding invoices. I am also able to send through statements for anyone who may think they have something outstanding.
If you have any financial inquiries, please contact me directly on 07 3550 1333 or email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au
Have a great week,
Ellie Mastrapostolos

ROBOT Club
“RoboCup Junior” practice has commenced in earnest this Term, in preparation for the Term 2, 2024 Regional Championships. At the moment we have teams developing 3 minute “On-stage” performances around the theme of Bluey and imaginary creatures. Over the next few months we build and decorate robots then perform a story to music.
If students are keen to join the robot club and work together on a project, we meet in the computer Lab, every Tuesday and Thursday, at second break.
Well done to all of the students who competed in the BEBRAS Computational Challenge. Certificates will be handed out next assembly. This Term we are competing in Minecraft Design Challenges, Hour of Code, Grok Cyber Safety and the Grok Webpage Design Challenge. Students years 2-6, come along to the Lab Wednesday second lunches for lots of fun, fame and fortune!

Interschool Sport
Our year 5 & 6 Students participated in the first Friday of Interschool Sport (Gala Sport) last week with two more Fridays to go. Teams participated in Girls Touch, Boys Touch and T20 Cricket. From all accounts, everyone did a great job.
Thanks to Mrs Hall, Mrs Kerr, Mr Emes and Mr Taylour who supported the students during these activities – including where needed umpiring or refereeing games.
A reminder - everyone needs to be bringing their hats, water bottles, lunch and sunscreen. It is important that they bring their lunch to ensure they are fuelling their bodies well and any canteen purchases will supplement their lunches not replace them.
Year 3 & 4 Sport
Our year 3 & 4 students participated in their first week of our sports skills program. All year 3 & 4 students spent our middle session and afternoon session out on the oval and multipurpose court rotating through four separate sports. This will happen while our year 5 & 6 classes are out at Gala sports.
Our focus for the program are the sports that we participate in annually, namely, Volleyball, Touch and T20 Cricket. The fourth sport, is a multi-sport – activities like 10 pin bowling and bocce. Thanks to Mrs Arthur, Mrs Harris, Mrs Moeser and Mr Harris for supporting our program.
During week 1 students focused on skills for each sport. In week 2 we will work on additional skills and start introducing modified game play and in week 3 it is planned that they focus more on modified game play.
Swimming
Swimming has started for this term – thanks to everyone who has been bringing their equipment as needed each week. Another thanks to parents who have been notifying us if their child is unable to participate in swimming.
We are still looking for help from parents in all of our Prep to year 2 space with some classes in more urgent need of help. Thanks so much to those who have already volunteered and are coming along as we can’t do it without you.
If you are able to help either for one lesson or maybe each week please email aawoo0@eq.edu.au
Adult support in these age groups makes a huge difference to our programs.
A reminder that personal equipment (swim cap, rashie, towel) is required to participate in the swimming program. There are limited numbers of “spare” equipment that is ok to use sometimes, but its important to get in the habit of having everything ready.
Named items of clothing are also essential. There were many lost items last week that could be solved easily if everything was named – yes EVERYTHING!
