Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back to Term 2 at Enoggera State School. We provide a warm welcome to the new families joining us this term from near and afar. As always Term 2 is a busy term focussed on learning and culminating with the assessment and reporting period, as well as many other exciting activities already on the calendar. These include our annual inter-house athletics carnivals, Under 8’s day and open day, just to name a few. We will also celebrate Chaplaincy Week in week 6 with a range of activities including a green pillar dress up day on the Friday and we will host a Neon Chappy Disco on the Friday evening from 5-7pm under our multipurpose court, as a major fundraiser for the Local Chaplaincy Committee to support Chaplaincy in our school and to cover the government shortfall in Chaplaincy wages. This will be a great opportunity for us to also try out the multi-purpose court roof and new lights as a venue for more discos in the future.
LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING PROGRAM
The Learning Curve this week is from the Learning Curve this week is from the ‘Engagement and Mindfulness’ category and the wellbeing skill building is ‘Being Engaged’. This focus is around students learning how to engage and focus their attention so they can stretch their abilities to overcome challenges. They will learn about flow which is when you are so fully engaged in stretching your abilities on a challenging activity that you lose all sense of time. This only happens when they have all electronic distractions off and are able to fully engage, which increases their thinking power and creativity.
Our students are working on this topic during their Health lessons and then following up with their class teachers as well as using their ESS Learning Curve diaries. The parent article re this topic is attached for your information.
STRATEGIC PLAN AND ANNUAL IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (AIP)
This fortnight, I will unpack the third priority of our Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan and what that looks like this year. This priority is Successful Learners – Differentiation which is about our teachers using a range of strategies to effectively differentiate for the range of learners within their classes.
To do this we are focussing on implementing a pedagogy called Universal Design of Learning which assist teachers to break down barriers which may be impacting a number of children in their class. We are also focussing on implementing inquiry and innovation opportunities for our high achieving students and we are also focussing on using a multi-tiered approach to data informed intervention and support.
The Annual Implementation Plan unpacks these strategies further with distinct action against each strategy.
A reminder that the full Strategic Plan 2024-2027 and the Annual Implementation Plan for 2024 are on the school website with a link from the bottom of the home page.
INTERHOUSE CROSS COUNTRY
It was great to see the weather enabled us to go ahead with our Cross Country events last week. The new Senior course where students ran along Laurel St enabled some variety in the course whilst still enabling full supervision. It was great to see our Junior students also get a run on the day and even some parents and staff had a little Cross Country run. Luckily there were no injuries from the parents and staff. Well done to our winning house Banksia who were announced on assembly yesterday.
Our 13 students selected to compete at the City District event are heading to the Brisbane Grammar Fields today for their events. We wish them all the best and look forward to hearing how they go.
PREP OPEN DAY
On May 3 we will hold our first Open Day for this year aimed at families who are looking to enrol here for 2025 either in Prep or other year levels. If you know of families who live in our catchment and are hoping to come here next year, please let them know of the coming Open Day which will commence in EPAC with a talk about the school which will be followed by a tour of the facilities. We will hold a further Open Day in Term 3 which will be followed by Prep Enrolment Interviews at the end of Term 3 and then out Prep Transition Program in Term 4.
STUDENT COUNCIL 2023 LEGACY ITEM
Last year our Student Council apart from raising money for chose local, State and National charities they also raised money for a legacy item to leave at the school. They raised over $4000 throughout the year to purchase on outdoor table tennis table for the school which has been ordered and will be permanently installed later this term. This will be another great activity for students to use at break times. Mr Woodrick is already talking about running a table tennis competition once we polish our skills. Perhaps in the future we can add to the sport with the addition of further tables.
ANZAC DAY AND SERVICE
We will be attending the Gaythorne March on ANZAC Day and encourage our students and staff to join us for the march around the Gaythorne streets commencing at 6am from Sid Loder Park at Gaythorne. Our school captains will lead the march and will also lay a wreath on behalf of the school.
On Friday at 9am in our front memorial gardens we will hold our school ANZAC Service. We will have some special guests attend and our Snr Choir will sing and also lead us in the Australian and New Zealand National anthems. Each class have chosen two representatives to lay their class wreaths.
Mrs Burrows and our Captains will lead the service as we commemorate those that have fought for our country in past wars and current conflicts. This Anzac Day is a special one as it marks 110 years since the outbreak of WWI. On 6 August 1914, Australia officially entered the Great War, and the first Australian infantry unit was recruited within a fortnight. On 1 November 1914, over 41,000 troops set sail from Albany, WA to finish training in Egypt before their first major campaign in Gallipoli.
PLAYGROUND USE AFTER SCHOOL
A reminder that our school playgrounds, ovals and facilities are out of bounds before and after school. Our OSHC Camp Australia have a lease on the oval and playgrounds after school and SLICE Tennis and SPORT X have leases on the multi- court after school. This means that students should not be playing on the playgrounds or ovals afterschool unless they are part of these programs, as it makes it very difficult for our OSHC in particular, to supervise the children in their care when there are other children not in their care also on the playgrounds. We ask that you ensure your children are with you after school and that you are leaving the site as soon as possible.
PERSONAL DIGITAL DEVICES
A reminder that the use of personal technology devices at school, is a breach of our ‘Student Code of Conduct’ which all parents have agreed to abide by upon enrolling their student at this school as per the ‘Enrolment Agreement’. Students should not be bringing or wearing personal technology devices as they should be left at the office before school for secure storage during the school day and collected after school. This is as per Pg. 21 of our Student Code of Conduct which is on our school website https://enoggerass.eq.edu.au/supportandresources/formsanddocuments/documents/student%20code%20of%20conduct%20ess%20updated.pdf
which says:
“Bringing personal technology devices to school is not encouraged by the school because of the potential for theft and general distraction and/or disruption associated with them. However, if they are brought to school, they must be turned off and handed in to the office on arrival at school and collected at the end of the school day. Devices should not be used at school at any time.”
Our current school policy is already in line with the new government mandate ‘Away for the day’, which rolled out in all schools across Australia at the beginning of this year as per the media statement below.
Personal Technology devices include mobile phones, tablets, smart watches, gaming devices etc. as we are experiencing increasing numbers of students wearing smart watches to school and playing with them during class and distracting their learning and that of others and the increased risk of cyberbullying, during the school day.
Even if these devices have restricted access to the internet during the day they are still not to be worn to school, as there is no way of school staff knowing and checking that they are not connected to the internet or cellular network.
We ask for your co-operation in ensuring your children do not have personal technology devices at school and that if they do they are to be left at the office before school for secure storage during the day.
AEDC
This term our school will participate in the AEDC (Australian Early Development Census) which enable the Australian Government to collect information about early child development and how this impacts on our Prep students as they start school. The census consists of a 30 minute session for each Prep child with their class teacher to collect the relevant information for the census such as how they are going in five key areas including literacy, numeracy and social skills. Below is the flyer re the census. Further information will be sent out to Prep parents in the coming weeks for you to OPT OUT of the census if you wish.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson

Front Gate
In trying to be helpful, some students or parents are once again using a rock from the front garden to hold back the front gate on South Pine Road leaving it wide open! This is very unsafe for our new preppies who may wander off and see the open gate that leads to a very busy road! Please ensure that you keep our front gate closed at all times. Thanks for your help with this.
Our school has a very active Facebook page with frequent posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. To find our events, simply click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events. Dates for Term Two events have been posted on Facebook to help you plan ahead for Term Two.
If you have a Facebook page, we encourage all of our parents to follow our school page so you can enjoy the wonderful experiences our school has to offer. The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate comments will be removed from the platform. Please remember to never make comments on the page referencing a child’s name for privacy reasons.
Stop, Drop and Go
A friendly reminder to parents that to ensure the Stop, Drop and Go Zone at South Pine Road (in the car park) is successful, it is essential that drivers proceed all the way to the first gate closest to the library. Parents are unable to leave their vehicles in this area to walk their students into under the buildings as it causes congestion to the flow of traffic and becomes a safety issue. Please do not drop your students at the first gate either as this causes cars to have to go around your vehicle and again causes issues with the traffic flow. This gate is locked in the mornings for safety after 8:15am. Thanks for your support with our safe drop-off.
The expectation is the same for Laurel St Stop, Drop and Go. Please do not park in this zone and leave your vehicle as it doesn’t allow for the traffic to flow. It is important to continually move your car to the front of the zone to allow cars to move in behind you. Our staff are working hard to ensure the safety of our students as they leave the school grounds and we appreciate your support with this by following our pick-up and drop-off processes.
Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars including Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around safe movement after the bell. Currently, the bell seems to be the signal for many of our students to scream and run back to their line up areas, which is not safe!
This Pillar Practice focusses on 4 reminders:
- No running, pushing and shoving
- No yelling or screaming when the bell rings and when lining up
- Having a drink of water at the end of play (or filling water bottles)
- Going to the toilet before lining up – to reduce the number of students leaving the classroom during learning time.
All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school. The special safety Walking Feet Gotchas are being handed out to students over the coming fortnight to support the Pillar Practice. The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
School Dress Code
As the days become cooler, students may need to start wearing a jumper. Parents are asked to please follow our school Dress Code that requires students either wear the school jacket, or a plain blue jumper. Blue jumpers with printed designs, colour jumpers and hoodies are not permitted. Girls are permitted to wear navy tights. As these are difficult to find, they are also permitted to wear black tights. Blue tracksuit pants are also suitable for both boys and girls to wear with their polo shirt. This Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
The Junior and Senior Colouring In competitions will continue each fortnight this term. This fortnight’s theme is ANZAC Day. We look forward to seeing the student entries and displaying the winners in the foyer. The winners will be announced on next assembly.

Enoggera State School will hold their ANZAC Day Service on the front lawn near the memorial garden on Friday 26th April at 9am. Parents and carers are welcome to attend but please be advised there is limited seating for adults.
The Student Council will be selling ANZAC ribbons under D Block on Wednesday and Friday morning this week.
Blue Cloth Ribbons with safety pin - $2
White Cloth Stickers – 50c
Year 5/6 Camp
Our Year 5/6 Teachers, Mrs Burrows and Mr Harris will be attending camp from Monday 20th May to Wednesday 22nd May (Week 6) this term. A reminder that camp forms were due back at the end of last term, and these are urgently needed so that the information can be provided to the camp regarding dietary and medical needs. Full payment for the camp is due on Friday 3rd May (end Week 3). If you are unable to make payment by this date, please contact the Business Manager as soon as possible to discuss options.
Students have now had 2 meetings about camp. We will have another meeting on Friday 3rd at 2:30pm with the students to discuss the countdown for camp. The bus in due to leave at approximately 9:30am on the Monday morning, however students must be at school at the normal time so that rolls can be marked, medication can be collected and the bus can be loaded. When helping your child to pack for camp, please ensure that you send along a plastic garbage bag for wet/dirty clothes, and remember to label all your child’s items with their names!
Teachers are currently working together on creating cabin groups and activity groups. Whilst every effort is made to ensure that each child has one friend in their cabin, they may not have all their friends with them. This is the same for the activity groups, in which the students will be mixed from each class to encourage students to make new friendships and work with different peers. The year 5s and 6s will be in different groups as the Year 6s do different activities than when they visited last year although they do have the opportunity to do the flying fox again as well as visit the beach. This year, as we are attending earlier than previous years and the weather will be cooler, we are going to have a camp fire for the first time. Mr Harris is excited about bringing his guitar for some songs around the fire.

If you have any questions about camp, please email your child’s class teacher.
We are looking forward to sharing this wonderful experience with your children.
Ms Tina Burrows
Deputy Principal
Term 2 Term Overviews and Class Newsletters
This Friday class teachers will be disseminating Term Two curriculum learning area overviews and class newsletters. The Term 2 curriculum overview provides you with information of the learning your child/children will be undertaking in all learning areas for the term. The class newsletter provides you with information pertaining to weekly timetables and resources needed on particular days. (eg. Library is on Monday. Homework to be returned on Wednesday)
Interschool Cluster Moderation and Professional Development
This term Enoggera and Stafford State School are collaborateively working to conduct After After Moderation. This stage of moderation allows a collective group of teachers to review and analyse student work and confirm or change grades awarded. The purpose of moderation is to provide clarity, consistency and consensus in marking to ensure that student grades are true and accurate regardless of where they attend school.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Once again, Enoggera State School will be encouraging all students to participate in the Premier’s reading challenge for 2024. Students will receive a School Reading Record Form to bring home next week in preparation to begin reading from Tuesday 7th May. Students will cease reading on Friday 23rd August and return their forms to school to be collated. All forms must be returned by Tuesday 3rd September to receive certificates.
Readers Cup Competition
Our 2024 Readers Cup participants are studiously preparing for the Metropolitan North Competition which is occurring on Wednesday 5th June at Kurwongbah State School (Week 8). Students are expected to read and comprehend 5 texts; and work in teams to recall and answer questions quickly. All nine students are to be commended for their diligence in preparing for this competition and I have every confidence that they will represent our school wonderfully on the day.
Book Club Issue 3
Just a reminder that orders for Issue 3 Book Club will close on Monday 29th April 2024. These will be processed on May 1st and should arrive at school within 5 to 7 business days. Once the order have arrived they will be delivered to students in their respective classrooms. All orders need to be made online via the loop system. Cash is not accepted.

Hello from Prep!
As we begin Term 2, we wanted to share some highlights from our first year of school so far!
Last term was filled with excitement and learning, marked by memorable moments such as making new friends, learning our sounds, and playing with our 5/6 buddies. In Science, we investigated the weather and we are now exploring the properties of different materials. In Maths last term, we focused on shapes and sorting objects before moving on to numbers this term.
In HASS, we've been exploring our family connections and celebrations, which aligns well with the exciting events to start the year, including Valentine's Day, Harmony Day, and Easter. Term 2 has started well with Cross Country and school photos, and we're very excited to see what else it holds.
We extend our gratitude to our students, families, and fellow educators for their support and dedication so far this year. Together, we will make this term another memorable chapter for our Preppies.
Here's to a fantastic Term 2 filled with laughter, learning, and endless possibilities!
Kind regards,
The Prep Teachers
Welcome to Term 2
Cross Country
The weather was fine and the track was in great condition for the Cross Country event held in week 1 of term 2.
The course was a little different this year, and from many reports a much better track for our runners. I really enjoyed watching all the runners, both competitive and the fun runners - all giving it a good go!
Well done to all the everyone!

Dance News
Welcome back to Term 2! I'm so excited to continue working with the Dance Ensembles this term as each group are working on a routine for our Arts of Stage performance at the end of the year.
Our Boys Crew are working on a Hip Hop routine and our Blue, Red and Green Ensembles are learning Jazz routines that are upbeat and energetic. I can't wait for students to have the opportunity to perform them soon.
Reminder: Please ensure students are attending rehearsals, if students have missed 2 weeks in a row, I will be making contact with students and families. I understand sometimes students can forget but as we only have a small amount of time together attendance is very important. Below is a reminder of the rehearsal times
Boys Crew - Monday first break after eating
Green Dance - Wednesday second break after eating
Red Dance - Thursday first break after eating
Blue Dance - Thursday 8am before school
