Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING PROGRAM
The Learning Curve this week is from the ‘Meaning and Purpose’ category and the wellbeing skill builder is ‘The Right Thing To Do’. This focus is around students learning how to listen to what their minds are telling them, what the fair and right thing is for them to do, then following through by actually doing it. It also covers peer group pressure and how to ask themselves if an activity is fair, safe and legal and if it will build up others’ and their own wellbeing. It also covers how to use your strengths to say ‘no’ if your mind is telling you, this is not the right thing to do.
Our students are working on this topic during their Health lessons and then following up with their class teachers as well as using their ESS Learning Curve diaries. The parent article regarding this topic is attached for your information.
STRATEGIC PLAN AND ANNUAL IMPLEMENTATION PLAN (AIP)
This fortnight, I will unpack the fourth and final priority of our Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan and what that looks like this year. This priority is Wellbeing which is about implementing a range of strategies across the school to improve student and staff wellbeing as well as collective efficacy as evidenced through the improved results of our School Opinion Survey and our Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing Survey. These strategies are mapped out in our Student Learning and Wellbeing Framework and our Staff Wellbeing Framework and are reviewed annually by our Wellbeing Committee. It is also about embedding other activities which fall under the Australian Curriculum Cross Curriculum Priorities and General Capabilities to improve wellbeing such as the environmental focus.
The Annual Implementation Plan unpacks these strategies further with distinct actions against each strategy.
A reminder that the full Strategic Plan 2024-2027 and the Annual Implementation Plan for 2024 are on the school website with a link at the bottom of the home page.
209/211 SOUTH PINE ROAD
As you may be aware the house at 209/211 South Pine Road is being readied for removal over the coming weekend. This block will then be cleaned up and turned into a temporary staff carpark to alleviate the congestion around the streets, at the front of the school and also in the church carpark. This is the first step in a three-step plan to increase the land size of the school which will enable us to increase our green space down the track.
CHURCH CARPARK
The Emmanuel Uniting Church are always very gracious in allowing our families and staff access to their car park, however this year it has been increasingly difficult for them to conduct their business and for the Uniting Early Learning Centre to function effectively, due to the inability for Church staff and parents to park in their centre.
They have therefore implemented a colour coded system and have asked that our community only park in the designated blue car park spaces against the school fence as per the map below. They are in the process of erecting some permanent signage to assist with this. It would be a shame if the time comes that the Church closes their car park to our community, as this would create more congestion and difficulties on the streets surrounding the school. So, I ask that you please abide by their rules and do the right thing if wishing to part in their car park. We would like to keep the positive relationship the school has had with the Church over many years intact.
CHAPPY WEEK
Just a reminder that we are supporting Chaplaincy Week in School from May 22-May 26. During this week we show our support to our Chappy Twinkee and the Chaplaincy Program within our school. We will hold a Green Pillar Dress up day for a gold coin donation towards Chaplaincy on the Friday and we will also have the Chappy Neon disco in the multi-purpose court on Friday evening from 5-7pm. This is the Chaplaincy major fundraiser for the Local Chaplaincy Committee which funds the shortfall in wages for us to keep a Chaplain in our school 2 days per week. We look forward to as much community support as possible for these events as our school Chaplain supports our young people in navigating the schoolyard. Chaplains provide a safe, positive influence for our children.
QASSP PRINCIPAL’S CONFERENCE
This week on Thursday and Friday I will be away at the Qld Association of State School Principals Conference in the City. The theme of the conference this year is ‘Elephants in the Room’ and is focussed around collaboratively planning a way forward for some of educations most difficult, complex, uncomfortable and sensitive problems. Mrs Burrows will be in charge whilst I am away this week.
PREP OPEN DAY
Last week we held our first Open Day for this year for families who are looking to enrol here for 2025 either in Prep or other year levels. Our first Open Day was very well attended with around 50 parents in attendance. We will hold another Open Day in Term 3 before our Prep Enrolment Interviews at the end of Term 3 and then the Prep Transition and Information sessions in Term 4.
If you know of families who live in our catchment and are hoping to come here next year, please let them know of the next Open Day in Term 3. Families who have made their decision can drop in enrolments forms to the office at any stage to enable us to get them on the system and into the communication channels for next year.
MODERATION
It was wonderful to see our staff working collaboratively with staff from Stafford State School last night at our Twilight PD session in EPAC, to moderate assessment pieces from the Term One English units, to determine consistency of grades toward the end of semester report cards. With staff working together around the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards and applying these to their assessment tasks we can ensure an A at Enoggera is the same as an A at Stafford. This work is very valuable in supporting our teachers professional judgement and understanding of the Australian Curriculum Version 9 which we are currently working in in English.
ANZAC DAY AND SERVICE
Thank you to those who attended our school ANZAC Service on Friday 26/4 and also the Gaythorne March on 25/4. As usual, it was wonderful to see so much support for our school service through the attendance of our Special Guests, MP Tim Mander, BCC Councillor Andrew Wines as well as parent, Flying Officer Emma Ryan and Chaplain Sarah Petchell. It was great to see other serving parents in uniform attend the service also. Our student were very respectful during the service which is credit to their families and teachers.
This term our school will participate in the AEDC (Australian Early Development Census) which enable the Australian Government to collect information about early child development and how this impacts on our Prep students as they start school. The census consists of a 30 minute session for each Prep child with their class teacher to collect the relevant information for the census such as how they are going in five key areas including literacy, numeracy and social skills. Below is the flyer re the census. Further information will be sent out to Prep parents in the coming weeks for you to OPT OUT of the census if you wish.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson

Our school has a very active Facebook page with frequent posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. To find our events, simply click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events. Dates for Term Two events have been posted on Facebook to help you plan ahead for Term Two.
If you have a Facebook page, we encourage all of our parents to follow our school page so you can enjoy the wonderful experiences our school has to offer. The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate comments will be removed from the platform. Please remember to never make comments on the page referencing a child’s name for privacy reasons.
Stop, Drop and Go
A friendly reminder to parents that to ensure the Stop, Drop and Go Zone at South Pine Road (in the car park) is successful, it is essential that drivers proceed all the way to the first gate closest to the library. Parents are unable to leave their vehicles in this area to walk their students into under the buildings as it causes congestion to the flow of traffic and becomes a safety issue. Please do not drop your students at the first gate either as this causes cars to have to go around your vehicle and again causes issues with the traffic flow. This gate is locked in the mornings for safety after 8:15am. Thanks for your support with our safe drop-off.
The expectation is the same for Laurel St Stop, Drop and Go. Please do not park in this zone and leave your vehicle as it doesn’t allow for the traffic to flow. It is important to continually move your car to the front of the zone to allow cars to move in behind you. Our staff are working hard to ensure the safety of our students as they leave the school grounds and we appreciate your support with this by following our pick-up and drop-off processes.
Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars including Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around improving three focus areas:
- Line Up
- Before School
- Eating Areas
All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school. The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
School Dress Code
As the days become cooler, students may need to start wearing a jumper. Parents are asked to please follow our school Dress Code that requires students either wear the school jacket, or a plain blue jumper. Blue jumpers with printed designs, colour jumpers and hoodies are not permitted. Girls are permitted to wear navy tights. As these are difficult to find, they are also permitted to wear black tights. Blue tracksuit pants are also suitable for both boys and girls to wear with their polo shirt. This Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
Student Council
The Student Council held their first meeting for the term last Friday bringing great suggestions and feedback to the group to discuss. The Student Council is planning another Meal Deal fundraiser in Week 9 with money raised going towards their legacy item. This term, the Student Council will also be holding two fundraisers. The first is a “Book Swap” in which students are permitted to bring a maximum of 3 books from home that they don’t want anymore to school to swap. Each swap costs the students a gold coin. In swapping their book, we raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and our students get to take up to three different books home for some holiday reading. This will be held on Wednesday 19th June at both breaks in the library. Further details on how this will run will be provided later in the term.
The second fundraiser is for the Student Council legacy item, and the students have decided to have a Crazy Socks and Sunnies dress up day. Students are asked to donate a gold coin donation to the Student Council on this day.
The Student Council will also be implementing a wellbeing initiative in Week 7 of this term (Monday 27th May to Friday 31st) May. Each class will be provided with a pinwheel and will brainstorm aspects of our school that they are grateful for. The teacher will then write their gratitude statements on each leaf of the pinwheel with their class name in the middle. These will then be presented on assembly in Week 8 before being planted in the garden beds on the AstroTurf for staff, students, parents and visitors to read and enjoy. Expressing gratitude is an excellent way to boost morale and the wellbeing!
The Junior and Senior Colouring In competitions will continue each fortnight this term. The winners of the ANZAC colouring the next colouring competition will be announced at assembly. There will be new colouring in from today. We look forward to seeing the student entries and displaying the winners in the foyer. All the winners will be announced on next assembly.

Year 5/6 Camp
Our Year 5/6 Teachers, Mrs Burrows and Mr Harris will be attending camp from Monday 20th May to Wednesday 22nd May (Week 6) this term. Thanks to all families for returning their camp forms. The information is now loaded into the camp portal in preparation for our attendance in Week 6.
Students had another meeting about camp this morning and will have a final meeting on Friday 17th at 2:30pm to discuss last minute reminders. The most important message now is that all over the counter medication (including panadol, ibuprofen, cough liquid, eye drops, travel sickness tablets etc) must have a pharmacy label with the child’s name and the dosage on it. We CANNOT accept medication without a pharmacy label. We also cannot accept medication with a label for a sibling. Any medication that is handed in must also have a ‘Consent to Administer Medication on Camp’ form completed. These were attached to the original letter sent home and are available via email or paper copy from the office.
The bus in due to leave at approximately 9:30am on the Monday morning, however students must be at school at the normal time so that rolls can be marked, medication can be collected and the bus can be loaded. All students are to remain downstairs upon arrival at school. Mrs Burrows will be located upstairs in 5/6A classroom. Students needing to drop in medication are to come upstairs with their forms and medication and sit in the classroom until they are called over to Mrs Burrows. The medication will then be entered into the spreadsheet and checked for labels. Students will then return downstairs. No luggage is to be brought upstairs. When helping your child to pack for camp, please ensure that you send along a plastic garbage bag for wet/dirty clothes, and remember to label all your child’s items with their names!

he Year 6s do different activities than when they visited last year although they do have the opportunity to do the flying fox again as well as visit the beach. This year, as we are attending earlier than previous years and the weather will be cooler, we are going to have a camp fire for the first time. Mr Harris is excited about bringing his guitar for some songs around the fire.
If you have any questions about camp, please email your child’s class teacher. We are looking forward to sharing this wonderful experience with your children.
Run Club In the lead up to Senior Athletics Carnival, Run Club will start again from next week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday morning on the oval from 8:30am. This is only available for years 3-6 and will be supervised by a teacher aide. Only students participating in the running are allowed to the oval. There are no spectators allowed on the grandstand. Students are to wait under D Block until 8:30am at
which time the TA will line them up
to move to the oval.
Before School
Over the past two weeks, before school play was split between age levels on different days as a behaviour reset. Towards the end of last term, there were a lot of issues with students running on the AstroTurf and concrete, wandering around and not following instructions of staff on duty. From this week, all students are now permitted to play before school from 8:30 to 8:45am. There are only 3 options for play:
- Handball
- Skipping
- Dance Ribbons
All other students must be seated under D Block (or under A and C block with parents). Prep and Year 1 students sitting with parents, are permitted to join in supervised play with other students on the AstroTurf and under E Block, however are not allowed to play under C or A Blocks. In particular, there should be no play on the grass next to the pool or on the fence on the heritage wall. Any toddlers will need to remain with their parents and not play with school age siblings.
When the bell rings, students should return to their parents or under D Block and wait to be released to walk to their line up areas. Students using skipping ropes and dance ribbons should return the equipment appropriately before lining up. We appreciate the support of parents with managing safety and behaviour before school.
House Mascots
Recently, students across the school voted between two options for House Mascots.
Option 1 – Insects – Waratah Wasps and Banksia Butterflies
Option 2 – Mammals – Waratah Wombats and Banksia Bandicoots
The overwhelming winning option was the mammals!
Now, students are invited to name the mascots with a ‘B’ name for Banksia and a ‘W’ name for Waratah. Students are able to submit their entry in the entry box in the office foyer. There is a notebook to tear off a slip to write an entry on to put in the box. We will then collate the names and find our winning names to be announced on Assembly in Week 8!

Interschool Cluster Moderation and Professional Development
This week Enoggera State School hosted Stafford State School to engage in 2nd Stage of After Moderation. This stage of moderation allows a collective group of teachers to review and analyse student work and confirm or change grades awarded. The purpose of moderation is to provide clarity, consistency and consensus in marking to ensure that student grades are true and accurate regardless of where they attend school. It was pleasing to note that teacher knowledge and understanding of the Australian Curriculum is of a very high standard with nearly all samples presented being confirmed. Congratulations to our teachers on their professionalism and commitment to the process to ensure quality teaching, learning and assessing for our students.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
All students are encouraged to participate in the Premier’s reading challenge for 2024. Students should have received their School Reading Record Form this week and can now be reading and recording their book lists during this time. Students will cease reading on Friday 23rd August and return their forms to school to be collated. All forms must be returned by Tuesday 3rd September to receive certificates.
Book Club Issue 3
A big thank you to everyone who purchased from Issue 3 Scholastic Book Club. All purchases help accrue rewards which allow our library to continue to renew resources including books, furniture, games and stationary making it a wonderful hub for students to use and enjoy. Students will be receiving their new items this week.

Just so everyone is aware, invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolment and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only a paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online. We strongly recommend all parents to sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the schools’ happenings.
We are still awaiting on a few families to complete their online consents through QParents. The State School Consent and Online Consents due dates have been extended for parents who haven’t completed this yet until the end of the term 2. It is very important you fill these consents in online so that we have the most up to date details surrounding your child. English
Students in Year 5/6 have had a busy start to Term Two. This term, students are learning how to write engaging, informative texts and have all chosen a topic of interest. We have been learning how to make our paragraphs more interesting by using appositive phrases and using language features such as expanded noun groups and topic-specific vocabulary to ensure our writing is cohesive. Students have begun the research phase of their task and will soon be coding their presentation in SCRATCH with Mr. Harris in Digi-Tech lessons. We can’t wait to learn about all of their wonderful topics.
ANZAC Day
The senior students and school leaders were inspiring role model during our school ANZAC Day service on Friday 26th April. The leaders spoke clearly and calmly and did an incredible job supporting the younger students during wreath laying. All other 5/6 students showed respect and sincerity during the ceremony. We were also treated to a beautiful song by the school choir - well done to the students involved. They should all be very proud of themselves.
Camp
Year 5/6 are getting very excited about camp! We will be having numerous meetings with Mrs Burrows over the coming weeks so there will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions – particularly the Year 5 students and those who haven’t been on camp before. A reminder that camp begins on the Monday 20th May (Week 6).
From the Year 5/6 Teachers,
Mrs Lancaster, Mrs Kerwick and Mrs Dowling
BEBRAS Challenge Well done to the fifteen Year 3 - 6 students who competed in Round One of Bebras Computational Thinking. I shall pass on feedback to the students over the next few weeks.
Year 1 This week the Year One students have some Digi Tech homework! This information will be found their homework folders. Year One parents and guardians are asked to help practise typing, especially making capital letters using the shift key (not Caps Lock please). They may practice on a physical keyboard, touch screen keyboard, or ideally on both. Once the students have the ability to accurately recall and type this information, they will then have easy access to many digital resources at school.
Years 1-4 Are using digital devices to prepare for sports day. They will need to bring their hats to Digi Tech lessons.
Years 5 and 6 These students have till May 16 to finish their transport projects. Students wanting to complete their projects at lunchtime, can visit the library Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday first at second break. I will provide a computer for this.

Digital Technologies Teacher
Term 2 is proving to be an interesting time when it comes to sport and being outside. Right now, the weather is either hot, cold or rainy which is a challenge for everybody. For many students, a jumper is required at the start of the lesson, but is quickly discarded when the activity starts. Any jumpers left behind will be placed in lost property unless it is clearly named and I can return it.
City District Cross Country.
On Wednesday 24th April students from years 3-6 participated in the City District Cross Country. They did incredibly well and pushed themselves very hard against some very strong competition.
Unfortunately, this year no runners have progressed to the next level of competition. Well-done to all the runners. You did yourselves and our school proud.
A big thanks to Mr Tom Sipple who was an official out at the back of the course all day long.
School PE
We are now well and truly preparing for our athletics carnival. Running, jumping and throwing is our focus.
Parents, can you please ensure your child has their hat for PE. There are a growing number of students without hats for the PE lessons that impacts everyone’s learning.
Netball 3-on-3
Teams are getting ready for our 3-on-3 netball competition. There are 11 teams and competition has started. Games are on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. If students are in any other extra-curricular activities, they are encouraged to go to that first. We can make up any lost games, otherwise, if students are sick replacements can be used to help.
Each team will play each other once and winning team receive 3 points, 1 point each for a draw and zero points for a loss. Once all round games are complete, we will have a finals day. Keep an eye out for some photos and results in upcoming newsletters.

Dear School Community
Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month is a community initiative held in Queensland each May to raise community awareness of the social and personal impacts of domestic and family violence and the support available to those affected. The key aims of the month are to:
- Raise community awareness of domestic and family violence and its impacts;
- Promote a clear message of no tolerance of domestic and family violence in Queensland communities;
- Ensure those who are experiencing domestic and family violence know how to access help and support;
- Encourage people who use abuse and/or violence to take responsibility for their abusive behaviour and seek support to change.
Domestic and family violence is about one person in a relationship using power to control the other person. This may include verbal abuse, emotional/psychological abuse, physical and sexual abuse, financial control, social abuse and stalking. Domestic and family violence is very common, in Australia it is estimated that around 1 in 4 people are affected. As a community we need to reinforce that violence against women and children is never okay and will not be tolerated. Everyone deserves to be safe and feel safe, and live free from the threat of domestic and family violence. If you or someone you know is being affected by domestic and family violence, please don’t ignore your concerns, know that help and support is available.
If you are in danger, don’t feel safe or fear for someone’s safety, call triple 000 immediately and ask for Qld police.
