LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING PROGRAM
The Learning Curve focus this week is from the ‘Meaning and Purpose’ category and the wellbeing skill students' are focussed on is called ‘Kind and Caring’. Our students are learning that it costs absolutely nothing to be kind and caring to other people and that it brings wonderful feelings of connection and belonging. Students' are working on this topic during their Health lessons and then following up with their class teachers as well as using their ESS Learning Curve diaries. The parent article regarding this topic is attached for your information.
WINTER SOIREE
Since our last newsletter we have held our Winter Soiree as a mid-year opportunity for our many Performing Arts extra-curricular groups to share their progress and repertoires thus far. It is a real credit to our wonderful Performing Arts staff who work tirelessly with our students, week in and week out to get them to this fine standard in such a short time. Much thanks to Mrs Rees, Miss Dunstan and Miss Kirk for their expertise and dedication. Thanks also to our other staff who assisted on the evening with organisation and supervision, the many parents and family members who attended, and also to the students themselves for such fine displays of the Performing Arts.
READER’S CUP COMPETITION
Since our last newsletter we have also had our Reader’s Cup teams attend the Brisbane North Competition. They performed credibly on the day coming away with a 3rd place and 8th place out of 49 teams in attendance. This again shows the strength of our reading programs here at ESS. We have such talented readers amongst our students. Much congratulations to Adelyn, Ella, Kai, Matias, Zoe, Natalie, Vishnu, Jamie and Rose for their hard work in preparation leading up to the day and their much-deserved success on the day. Thank you also to Mrs O’Malley for all of her work in preparing them and also to the parents who assisted with providing transportation to the event.
PREP OPEN DAY
We will hold another Open Day in Term 3 on July 26 before our Prep Enrolment Interviews start at the end of Term 3, through to the beginning of Term 4. The Prep Transition and Information sessions in Term 4 will be held on November 1 and 15, with our final roll up afternoon on December 11.
If you know of any families who live in our catchment and are hoping to come here next year, please let them know of the next Open Day in Term 3. Families who have made their decision can drop in enrolments forms to the office at any stage to enable us to get them on the system and into the communication channels for next year.
SCHOOL WATCH
We ask that everyone look out for after-hours crime in our school over the break. If you see anything suspicious, please call the School Watch number - 13 17 88.
The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools. Let's work together to help create a safer school community.
ATHLETICS CARNIVALS
Last week we finished the term with our Junior Athletics Carnival at the school and then the Senior Athletics Carnival at Mt Maria College. Both days were glorious with students having a great time as they demonstrated their skills and worked hard to earn points for their house. The athletics carnivals were well organised thanks to the PE staff, Mr Woodrick and his band of helpers including Schools Officer, Mr Callaghan and Teacher Aide, Mrs Butwell, as well as the support of other school staff. It was great to see so many parents supporting their students as they had an opportunity to demonstrate their skills around the various athletic events, whilst earning some points for their house. At the Principal Assembly Mr Woodrick announced the age champions and also the winning house. A big congratulations to Waratah for winning a very tight race.

REPORTING
This afternoon the Semester One student reports will be emailed home. If you have changed email addresses please ensure your up to date email address is recorded with admin on One School as this is the email address that will be picked up for the reports. If you do not receive your reports please first check your junk mail before contacting the school tomorrow.
Whilst primary school reports are just a snapshot in time of your child’s development at school it is a good opportunity to have a conversation with your child around how they have performed this semester and make some goals as to what they could improve on next semester.
However, we all need to keep in mind that whilst valuable information for parents on your child’s development, it is not the end of the world if a child does not receive the grades you or they were hoping for. As long as they are working to capacity and trying their best and have a positive disposition to learning they are setting themselves up for a successful journey of lifelong learning.
At the Principal’s Assembly on Monday, in my end of Semester Report, I left the students with a quote from one of my favourite authors Brene Brown which says:
What we know matters,
Who we are matters more.
I explained that whilst grades are important, being a good person is more important and that includes our interpersonal skills and how we relate to others. What sort of friend we are and the skills we need to manage friendships and relationships throughout our lives will ultimately be more important and help us more in life than our primary school report card. So, I ask parents to keep this in mind as you have the conversations with your children over the winter break.
If you have concerns re your child’s progress and wish to discuss this with the classroom teacher please make an appointment after the break. However, there will be an opportunity for all parents to discuss the Semester One results and make goals for Semester Two at the Parent Teacher Interviews to be held in EPAC on Tuesday, July 17 from 3:15-7:15pm, which is in week 2 of the term. Bookings are currently open for these interviews on SOBS as per the emailed information re how to book an interview. I believe the slots are filling quickly so please ensure you do not leave it until after the break to book
PRINCIPAL’S AWARDS ASSEMBLY
It was great to see such a large audience attend the Semester One Principal’s Award Assembly on Monday morning. I was privileged to present three awards to each class to students who have displayed success this semester around Academic, Positive Behaviour and Pride. It was also great to hear from our Instrumental Music program again and I thank Miss Lisa Kirk and the Junior Strings Ensemble for the wonderful exhibition. Congratulations to our award recipients for the Principal’s Awards for Semester One.
EVENTS
We have another important event tomorrow morning and that is our Under 8s morning, where we celebrate the theme for this year, and the Under 8s in our wider community. The Under 8s morning tomorrow has taken much organisation by the early years staff under the direction of Mrs Nelson, so we look forward to that exciting event to finish off the term.
And finally, all the best to our ESS families as we head into the Winter vacation on Friday. Again, it has been a very busy term with lots of success on many fronts including academically, socially and emotionally and in our many extra-curricular activities. I hope everyone enjoys some down time on the holidays and if travelling please stay safe and I hope everyone has an opportunity to reflect and refresh ready to go again when school returns on July 8.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
Toys and Balls from home
Over this term, there has been an increase in the number of toys and soccer/footballs being brought to school by students. A reminder that our Student Code of Conduct stipulates that toys are not to be brought to school by students as they can be distracting to teaching and learning and cause issues between students. With regards to bringing footballs and soccer balls from home, this is causing overcrowding with too many balls on the oval, and arguments occurring between students. From next term, we will be reinforcing our rule of no balls coming to school from home. Mr Woodrick is putting together kits of sports equipment that students can borrow for games on the oval on the year level rostered breaks. We would appreciate parents assisting with this expectation by monitoring of their children bringing toys and balls to school.
Our school has a very active Facebook page with frequent posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. To find our events, simply click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events.
If you have a Facebook page, we encourage all of our parents to follow our school page so you can enjoy the wonderful experiences our school has to offer. The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office.
Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate comments will be removed from the platform. Please remember to never make comments on the page referencing a child’s name for privacy reasons.

School Dress Code
A reminder to families about some of the uniform expectations outlined in our school Dress Code. Students are required to wear white ankle socks with plain black shoes. Some students are wearing long socks pulled up to their knees or black socks which are both not appropriate. Girls should also be mindful of the earrings they wear to school – wearing plain studs and sleepers only. Hoop earrings are not considered safe for school as they can easily be pulled from earlobes during play and cause a safety risk. A reminder also that girls are required to pull long hair up. Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
Student Council
Thank you for your recent support of the Student Council Sushi Meal Deal. We will hold another Subway Meal Deal in Week 9 of Term Three to raise funds towards the legacy item.
The “Book Swap” for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation held this Wednesday was well supported with $99 being raised for the foundation. The Student Council hopes that students enjoyed the opportunity to swap their books and have some new reading material for the holidays.
The final Student Council event for this term was Silly Socks and Sunnies Day! There was a sea of colour downstairs as students played before school in their colourful socks and sunglasses. Money raised is going towards the Student Council Legacy item for this year. Thank you for your ongoing support of the Student Council throughout term 2. Remember to kook out for the Gratitude Pinwheel Garden which will be planted in the garden beds very soon!
Happy Holidays
It has been a great term, but I know that both staff and students are all in need of a well-deserved break to recharge their batteries and be ready for more learning and great events in Term Three. I wish everyone a very relaxing holiday and look forward to seeing everyone after the break. If you are staying in the local area, please keep a close eye on our school grounds and please report any suspicious activity on 13 17 88.

Premiers Reading Challenge 2024
The Term 2 winter school holidays are a perfect opportunity to encourage your child to read lots of good books to add to their School Reader Record Form. Students still have plenty of time to meet the reading challenge of 15 books for Years Five and Six students and 20 books for students in Prep to Year Four. The challenge runs until Friday 23rd August.
Readers Cup Success
A huge congratulations goes to our Readers Cup Teams who competed brilliantly finishing in 3rd and 8th place out of 49. We are very proud of all our team members who showed great commitment and teamwork in achieving such wonderful results.

Just letting all parents and carers know, invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolmet and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only one paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you would like more information around this please email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online.
We strongly recommend all parents to sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the schools’ happenings. Starting from term 3, a new process will be starting through QParents, consents will be sent out prior to an excursion/incursion. Once the consent has been granted then families will be invoiced. This ensures that only families that are consenting to excursions are invoiced to stop the double up on invoicing. If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly.
SPARE UNIFORMS AND UNDERWEAR
Another quick reminder that it is important that all year 1 and prep students have spare clothes packed in their bags including underwear. We request this just in case a student has an accident throughout the day. If you have a child that has recently borrowed clothing from the office, could you please urgently return these spares and replacement underwear to the office as we have very low spare clothes. We are also happy to accept donations of underwear due to these not being returnable.
LOST PROPERTY
A gentle reminder to all families that as the term comes to a close, please check the lost property for any items that may have gone missing over the term. The office has been inundated this term with jumpers, hats, lunch boxes and water bottles all with and without names. Any named items will be handed back to students this week.
Have a lovely June/July break!
Ellie Mastrapostolos
Business Manager
As the end of the term approaches, we are all looking forward to a well deserved break. Year 2 students' have been busy designing and creating push and pull toys. After learning about money in maths, we could probably set up a toy shop!
We have also been exploring characters in English, like the brave Paper Bag Princess, Cinders Rox and The Lion Inside. We’ve discovered that not all princes are perfect, not all wolves want to gobble up Grandma and not all lions are big and brave!

Year 2 team.
A huge thanks for everyone’s work in semester 1. From Mr Colin keeping the grounds in great condition, to the teacher aides assisting in our prep students lessons and of course, all the wonderful ESS students.
The end of term is always a busy one. We had our junior sports carnival on Thursday 13th June. Well done to all of those in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 who raced, threw and jumped in all our races and activities. I think there would have been some tired bodies!
A special thanks to all the teacher and teacher aide support too. The days would not have been a success if you did not get in and help. Plus a thank you to our school captains, sports captains and arts captains plus some pink vent volunteers who helped on the day. You did a terrific job!
Finally, thanks to the parents who came and cheered the little champions on, I hope seeing your little one taking part put a smile on your face.
The senior carnival was on Friday 14th June. It was another lovely day seeing ESS students trying their hardest at the athletics carnival. There are certainly some great little athletes here at ESS and it will be great to see them compete at our District trials in term 3.
Team Banksia was the winner on the day. Congratulations!!! But a very good effort from Waratah keeping it close all day.
Congratulations to our age champions for 2024.

Our ESS sports day is one of the biggest events during the year, I really need to say a few thanks to Mr Colin and Mrs Ainsley Butwell who helped set up early on both mornings. Thanks to Mr Harris helping on the Friday morning and Miss Dunstan assisting with the pack up. It really helps the day run so smoothly.
A massive thanks to all the teachers too. It is a very big change in the daily plan and they all pitched in and got their events and jobs done. I am very appreciative to work with a supportive school staff.
Thanks also to the administration team at ESS for providing all necessary adjustments, notes home, preparing first aid kits and just supporting me with this event.
Finally, in Netball news, our lunchtime 3 on 3 Netball has been running all term long. Last week we were able to have our finals day.
7th- Georgia, Ivy S, Keira
5th – Seri, Charlotte, Millie
3rd – Ali, Mckenzie, Audrey
1st – Angus, Matias, Mason
All finals games were very even, with most going to an extra time shoot off.
Well done to all teams. It was great to see the skill level increase over the term.
See you all in term 3 for another fun filled and action packed term! Stay safe.
Mr Woodrick
HPE Teacher
This week the year 5/6 students developed a Studio sharing some School Tag (Tiggy) rules. Having some fun answering yes or no.
The Year 4/5 students developed a guess a number quiz. Check this Studio and see if you can guess the number after only 4 tries!
Next semester we are commencing brand new units: Preps will continue with robot directions and iPads. Years 1 and 2 will coding miniature computers. Years 3 and 4 will collect and use data to help our world and Year's 5/6 will learn new ways to control artificial intelligence.
Have a safe, healthy and happy holiday.

Musical News
Over the holidays we would love to remind and encourage all of our Lead Cast and Years 4-6 Ensemble cast that they should have all of their lines and songs memorised as Term 3 students will be off scripts. This is really important and students have also been reminded in rehearsals to do this as well. Thank you to many of the students who have already memorised their lines!
Our Prep - 3 Students have been working hard in classes and have started learning items from the Musical. We'd also love to encourage these students to practice over the holidays as well. Students can access the songs from Giants in the Sky Musical on Spotify.
We're so excited to see everyone back in Term 3 for some large group and full cast rehearsals.
