Dear Parent and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING PROGRAM
The Learning Curve focus this week is from the ‘Meaning and Purpose’ category. The wellbeing skill builder is Forgiving or Saying Sorry. Our students are learning that when you are willing to forgive and say sorry a heavy burden can be lifted off your shoulders. Students are learning that by using their strengths to find the courage to do this, will help them protect their relationships. This also includes forgiving themselves when needed, as those who waste valuable energy holding grudges are often very unhappy. Students are working on this topic during their Health lessons and then following up with their class teachers as well as using their ESS Learning Curve diaries. The parent article regarding this topic is attached for your information.
‘GIANTS IN THE SKY’ MUSICAL
The excitement in the air is palpable as we look forward to our first whole school musical production coming up across four performances on 22nd, 23rd and 24th August. It is wonderful to see it all coming together with the ensemble groups, including our Prep to Year 2 students learning their songs and performances. I was able to pop down last Wednesday to watch the finale rehearsal in action with the Prep, Year 1, 2 and 3 ensemble performers on stage as well.
Ticket sales through Try Booking are going really well with the Saturday evening performance proving very popular thus far. The links to book are below and also are advertised again in this newsletter and on our facebook site. Please pass the word around to other community members who might like to see the show as we are hoping to see four sell out shows.

PREP 2025 ENROLMENT MEETINGS
Last Friday we held our final Open Day for the year before our Prep Enrolment Interviews, which are being held in the last three weeks of this term. These will continue into the beginning of Term 4. Interviews will be followed by our Prep Transition and Information sessions in Term 4 on November 1 and 15 from 9-11am and then our final roll up afternoon in week 10 of Term 4 on December 4. The SOBS link to book enrolment interviews is below and information will also be emailed out to the Prep 2025 mailing list. Bookings open this Friday August 2 at 6am and close 24hrs prior to each booking date.

If you know of families who live in our catchment and are planning to come here next year, please let them know of the Enrolment meetings coming up, where enrolments for next year are finalised and important information gathered to inform Prep class placements. Families who have made their decision can drop in enrolments forms to the office at any stage to enable us to get them on the system and into the communication channels for next year.
WEEK 6 AUTHOR VISIT INSTEAD OF REGULAR ASSEMBLY
Instead of our regular assembly in Week 6 on Monday August 12 from 2-3pm, we are very fortunate to be receiving a visit from an author free of charge for our students. This is perfect timing heading into Book Week 2024. The visit is being provided as part of the Live @ the Library program organised by the new Everton Park Library.
The show is being delivered by Stig Weymss – actor and audio narrator of Boy Swallows Universe and The Treehouse series. This funny, interactive and humorous show will have students engaging in storytelling and live narration. We are very appreciative of the Everton Park Library for providing our students with this wonderful opportunity.
NAPLAN AND A-E DATA CONVERSATIONS
Following on from parents receiving their child’s NAPLAN reports last week we have now been able to hold our Data Conversations with each of our class teachers to discuss their students A-E data for Semester One and what needs to be put in place for Semester Two to support more improvement into the A/B grades. Our teachers were able to make predictions for students and discuss improvements they want to see based on knowledge of the curriculum units this Semester in English and the students’ strengths and weaknesses to inform future teaching and learning. We have also commenced triangulating this data against the NAPLAN data now to see areas of alignment or misalignment between the data sets.
It was exciting again to see that our school continues to perform well above the State Mean in all areas of NAPLAN, which of course includes all schools across the state. Later on, further data will be become available where we are compared more closely to other similar Qld State Schools which gives us more of an indication of how we are sitting relative to these schools.
The graph below shows that we have continued to improve our results in all areas for both Year 3 and Year 5 since the resetting of the scales in 2023, which is why there is a gap from 2022 to 2023. This is because the previous data cannot be directly compared accurately against the new data due to the changes made to the bandings for the 2023 tests.
INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENTS
Recently we were advised that our submission for funding for classroom upgrades in this new financial year had been approved. We were successful in gaining $450 000 towards classroom upgrades in B Block and if funding allows also C Block. We are currently waiting for the DoE heritage team to respond to some design requests for enclosing the verandah in B Block. Final design drawings will then be developed and costed to know if there is sufficient funding to spread across the C Block rooms as well.
We have also been successful in gaining another DoE Sustainability Grant to work on the water harvesting options in the school which will include replacing the broken tank and plumbing it in to the sprinkler system and the watering system for the vegetable gardens. We have also had approved up to $250 000 for other maintenance projects in the school which include repairing of roof in EPAC, flooding and plumbing issues under D Block and the bathrooms and also repainting of the interior of the Resource Centre and new security fencing around the front of the school.
YEAR 6 GRADUATION
Just a reminder to parents of Yr 6 that the school is organizing the ceremony and the social function this year. The Graduation Ceremony will be in EPAC at 9am on Thursday 5th December and the social function (Dinner/Disco) for parents, students and staff will also be held that night. We are currently getting quotes for the meal and entertainment organised at present, so more details should be available later this term. There will be an opportunity for parents of our graduating students to get involved later on to assist with some fundraising through the Student Council and then jobs such as decorating the EPAC etc.
OPINION SURVEY
Last week all staff, students and parents should have received an email from the DoE with a link to complete the ESS annual Opinion Survey for this year. These emails were to be distributed from July 15. The survey links are individual links and are open from July 22 until August 16. The data from these surveys is collated by the DoE and shared with schools at the end of the year to inform planning for the following school year. We encourage as many families as possible to complete the survey.
STUDENT COUNCIL MAJOR FUNDRAISER
Our Student Council have planned their major fundraiser for this year and that is to be a Spell-a-thon followed by a Spelling Bee competition. The idea is that students will be provided with a list of 50 spelling words appropriate to their year level from the Australian Curriculum to learn. They will find sponsors per word correct eg. 5c/word. They will then be tested on the words in class to get their score to work out how much money to collect from their sponsors.
After the Spell-a-thon the classes will choose their class spelling champion who will then play off to find the champion speller in the year level. The Spelling Bee Competition will be held in EPAC where the year level champions play off against each other word for word using year level differentiated lists to determine our ESS Spelling Bee Champion for 2024. Because the lists are differentiated the winner could be from any year level as it is based on an elimination style competition where they are eliminated if they get a word incorrect.
Our Student Council look forward to our community getting behind this event to help them to raise money for their legacy item for this year. They are still deciding as to whether to purchase another table tennis table for the students to allow more students to play each day or to get a cold-water bubbler to fill up drink bottles or maybe both depending on how much they raise. Not only will there be financial gain, but this should help to put a spotlight on the importance of being good spelling.
COLLABORATIVE SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT
Last week we had a visit from our School Supervisor and some Principals from neighbouring schools to undertake a Collaborative School Improvement visit. I got to share our school’s progress around our Annual Implementation Plan this year and presented a problem of practice for the team to investigate during the visit. The problem of practice chosen was our visible learning focus which includes our Learning Walls and Bump it up Walls in each classroom. They met with staff, spoke with students and presented their findings to the leadership team, which I responded to on behalf of the Leadership Team. We received some very positive feedback and some constructive ideas to help us to progress this initiative in our school to assist students to improve their academic grades. We look forward to working though the feedback received with staff in coming weeks.
PLAYGROUNDS AND OVALS OUT OF SCHOOL
A reminder that all of our play spaces are out of bounds to students and visitors before and after school each day. Our OSHC lease these facilities during this time for the students in their care and it is very difficult for them to supervise their children when other students are on the playgrounds and ovals who are outside their duty of care.
We ask parents to ensure that their children are not on these spaces after school at all and that if you are wanting to meet up with other families for after school play dates you move to other parks for this. This includes students attending rehearsals at EPAC for Music, Dance, the Musical etc, as they are not to be on playgrounds when attending these events as there is no staff supervision.
LOST PROPERTY
A reminder to be checking the lost property cupboard under A Block regularly, as there are always plenty of hats, jumpers and lunch boxes etc in this area. Please remember to ensure your child’s belongings are named (even 2nd hand items) so that they can be returned to students if found, as it is surprising every day the number of items which are found still unnamed.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
A reminder that there are two days that our school is closed this term:
Wednesday 14th August for the EKKA holiday
Friday 30th August for a departmental Student Free Day.
As the weather remains cold over the winter months, a reminder that students are required to either wear a school jacket available at the uniform shop (open Friday morning from 8am); or a plain jumper in a school blue colour. Students are not permitted to wear hoodies or jumpers with any printing or designs on them. Girls are permitted to wear blue stockings (or black if blue is unavailable). All students can also wear plain school blue tracksuit pants. A reminder that girls should be wearing suitable earrings and headbands to school. Headbands should be in school colours and earrings should be limited to plain studs. This Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. Click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events.
The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office.
Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.
Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars include Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around improving our behaviour in two key areas as identified by the students at their recent Student Council meeting.
- Walking Feet – students are reminded to use their walking feet when transitioning around the school, moving to and from the toilet, and returning to line up areas. There is currently a lot of running on the concrete.
- Toilet Trust – students are reminded to show respect when using our toilets including respecting privacy, not taking food into the toilets, not playing games in the toilet block, using the soap correctly and sparingly, not wiping hands and soap on the mirrors.
All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school. The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
- Pyjama Day – gold coin donation – Friday 2nd August
- Subway Meal Deal – Monday 2nd September
The Charity being supported by the Student Council this term is the National Endangered Species Foundation. Students will be able to bring their favourite stuffed animal to school on Friday 6th September and donate a gold coin to this charity.
The Wellbeing Initiative for this term will be an Appreciation Week. There will be more information provided prior to this event in Week 5 of term. Students will be demonstrating their appreciation visually in our school. Look out for our Gratitude Pin Wheel garden that will be planted very soon!
Thanks for your support of the Student Council.
AlphaBucks Competition

Clubs and Activities
Our Lunch time Clubs and Activities program has been updated this term with some new activities and the continuation of some favourites. New activities include a Comic Book Club, Board Games, Construction, Quoits and Giant Games. Some favourite activities are continuing including Chess Club, Kids’ Yoga, Karaoke, Bubbles, Chalk Drawing and Just Dance Club. Visual posters are on display in all classrooms and the library for students to know what is happening each break.

Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Please find below my updates for this coming fortnight.
LOST PROPERTY REMINDER
As responsible learners, we encourage our students to take care of their belongings. As children become involved in their learning, or at lunch time, they may become pre-occupied and leave something behind. To assist in belongings being returned to their owner, it is strongly encouraged that everything is named (e.g. lunchboxes, hats, jumpers, etc).
If property is found and not named, the item will be kept in the lost property until the end of the term. Please check lost property if your child is missing something. Our lost property is located directly under administration, opposite the uniform shop.
At the end of the term, the items in lost property will be displayed for students to check. All items not collected at the end of each term will be donated to charity or discarded.
STOP DROP AND GO ZONE – 235 South Pine Road
The stop, drop and go zone is monitored each morning and each afternoon by a staff member. The correct procedure for this area is to drive up to the gate where the staff member is standing who will assist the safety of your student/s out of the car and on to the school grounds. Please do not stop half way and try and help your student out of the car at the first gate closest to the OSHC and Administration. If you do stop at the first gate, this causes a ripple effect in cars backing up and blocking the school entry and can affect the school crossing. Please follow the directions of the staff member to ensure the smooth transition of cars during these busy times.
Brisbane City Council has been advised of illegal street parking in the area and people not following the stop drop and go sign rules. Vehicles must not be left in this area at any time. If you require additional time to unload your student/s in the morning please ensure you’re a parking in a street park and walking up to the school.
Alternatively, we have a stop drop and go zone located on Laurel Street, which is also monitored daily by a staff member. The same rules apply. Thank you for your understanding with this matter.
CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE
Did you know Queenslanders go through around 3 billion drink containers each year? Containers for change has created a way to recycle those containers that incentivises Queenslanders, and positively impacts our environment and the communities we live in.
The Containers for Change Schools program is a school-based program designed to encourage Queensland schools to raise money through the Containers for Change scheme and help educate the next generation on the importance of recycling. If you are collecting containers and would like to donate these to Enoggera State School, please use the following code: C10051863 when dropping off at one of the main containers for change deposits.
GENERAL FINANCE
Just a reminder that full payment on the below activities is due soon. Please note if full payment and the online consent form isn’t received by the due date students will unfortunately not be able to attend. Late payments and consents cannot be accepted. If you are having financial difficult and require financial assistance, please contact bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au to arrange a payment plan.

Just letting all parents and carers know, invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolment and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only one paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you would like more information around this please email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online.
We strongly recommend all parents to sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the schools’ happenings. Starting from Term 3, a new process will be starting through QParents, and consents will be sent out prior to an excursion/incursion. Once the consent has been granted then families will be invoiced. This ensures that only families that are consenting to excursions are invoiced to stop the double up on invoicing.
If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly.
SPARE UNIFORMS AND UNDERWEAR
It is important that all Year 1 and Prep students have spare clothes packed in their bags including underwear. We request this just in case a student has an accident throughout the day. If you have a child that has recently borrowed clothing from the office, could you please urgently return these spares and replacement underwear to the office as we have very low spare clothes. We are also happy to accept donations of underwear due to these not being returnable.
Have a fantastic fortnight.

PREP Teachers
Year 1 Parents and Guardians - Digital Technologies
Year 1 learning materials must be accessed using a username and password. Currently there are over 50% of the Year Ones who cannot remember their passcode. Thank you for the continuing to practice special passcodes at home. BigFunCat1 is an example of a typical passcode. Note the three three letter words that make silly sentence. These codes require a lot of attention, practice and parental feedback to recall and type accurately.
If you have a phone or tablet, please use a notes app with digital keyboard and demonstrate how to make capital letters by double clicking the shift key. If you have a computer at home with a physical keyboard, demonstrate holding the Shift key first tapping the capital letter once then releasing the Shift key.
As an alternative it would be much appreciated if you remind your child to see Mr Harris at school, lunch times in the library on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursdays for individual tuition. You can go to this school site to test typing accuracy.
Science Week
The 2024 Science Week theme is “Species Survival - More than Just Sustainability.”
To celebrate, Enoggera State School is hosting a competition to draw a postcard that displays an Australian Shorebird, like the example below:
The postcard must display a bird from this list:
Students are encouraged to collect a blank postcard from the library at lunchtime and return the completed card to the library, by the end of Science Week, 18 August, 2024.
The postcards will be displayed along with official posters of the endangered species during Term 3.
School Garden
We currently have an overabundance of lettuces, onions and tomatoes. Students are encouraged to bring a clean empty, folded brown paper shopping bag to Mr Harris or to the school Admin Office. Ensure the student name and grade is clearly written on the bag. We will then fill your bag with fresh organic produce and send it back ASAP – free of charge!
In class we are keeping data of how much produce is supplied by the 20 square metre garden. I ask you do not take anything straight from the garden, as the amounts have to be recorded as sustainability data.

Met North Athletics
The City District track and field athletics carnival was held on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th July.
We had two really great days of competition and as always Enoggera students did us proud by getting into their event, trying their best and thanking the other competitors once finished. There were a number of personal bests at the event, and really, against tough competition, that is all I can ask for.
This year, we only have one student going on to represent at the Met North trials. Kai C in the long jump. Kai will be jumping for Met North a little later on in the term and we wish him best of luck in the next stage of competition. Go Kai!!!
A big thanks to Mrs Butwell for helping at the event. She was placed on the boys shot put for two days so lifted lots of weights. Thanks Mrs B!
Volleyball Cup
The Annual Primary Schools Cup is being held at Craigslea State High School on Thursday 29th August. Students in year 5 & 6 will be busy practicing their skills during PE lessons and lunch time practices in the leadup to the competition.
All students who have nominated to participate in the carnival have now received their permission forms and invoices Please note that permission forms are due back by Thursday 22nd August. If you require a hard copy of the form, please let me know.
Teams for the carnival will be sorted out in the near future.
PE Lessons
It is nice and warm in the sun for most of our PE lessons at the moment. With the nice sunny weather, it is really important that hats are still on heads for PE lessons and break times. There are some classes where over 5 students don’t have their hats. This impacts our time together as we need to sort and organise spare hats.
Can we please ensure all students bring their hat every day. Thanks for supporting your child in being sun safe.

HPE Teacher
