Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING PROGRAM
The Learning Curve focus this week is from the ‘Health and Strengths’ category. The wellbeing skill builder is ‘Help Seeking’. This topic is about helping students to learn that asking for help with problems that are too big for them to handle will protect their wellbeing, as these types of problems do not go away on their own. It also teaches students to know the right people to ask for different problems is the most important thing in solving them, and that there are always people available such as their family, friends, teachers and trusted champions. We are encouraging students to deal with problems early before they become too big.
Students are working on this topic during their Health lessons and then following up with their class teachers as well as using their ESS Learning Curve diaries. The parent article re this topic is attached for your information.
PREP 2025 ENROLMENTS AND TRANSITION MORNINGS
Enoggera State School held our first transition to Prep morning last Friday with nearly all of our new 2025 Prep students attending for the morning of activities. We will hold the second of these mornings on November 15. Many thanks to our amazing P&C who opened the uniform shop for the morning, so our new students could get fitted out in their uniforms and also for providing the morning tea for the new parents to socialise together.
A reminder that if you know of families who live in our catchment and are planning to come here next year, please remind them to get their enrolments in asap.
CLASS GROUPINGS AND ROLL UP AFTERNOON
We are working with staff now to create our classes for 2025. Thank you to the parents who have provided feedback around their child/children about the type of learning environment that suits them best. Whilst we take this information into consideration, we cannot guarantee that you will get all of the students you have indicated you would like your child to be with or not, as ultimately it is about making the best placement for effective teaching and learning. Sometimes this means not being with best friends so that they can concentrate on their learning whilst in class.
In week 10 we will hold our usual roll up afternoon on Wednesday, 4th December from 2-3pm. Students will go to their 2025 class and teacher (if possible) and they will bring home a slip afterwards for you saying which class they have been placed in and who their teacher will be for next year.
2024 YEAR BOOK
A reminder that again this year we are producing a Year Book of the 2024 school year at Enoggera State School. This book is a great memory book of the year and is available to purchase by our families. It includes class pages and pages on all of our school events and activities throughout the year. It also includes a special focus on our graduates. The book is gifted to our graduating students at the graduation ceremony and will also be available for collection for families who order and pay for one prior.
Order forms are now live and are attached below. This form will also be emailed out to families today, so if you wish to purchase the year book please complete the order form attached and return to the office by Friday, December 6. Invoices will then be raised based on the order forms we received back each week. We only have 57 available yearbooks for sale this year, so the first 57 families that order will receive their copy before the holidays. Full payment must be made by Friday the 13th of December to recieve your copy this year.
A further order can be placed after that for delivery at the start of school next year with invoices to be raised in 2025.
GRADUATION
A reminder that our Graduation Ceremony for our Year 6 students will be held on Thursday 5th December at 9:00am in EPAC and this will be followed by the Guard of Honour later in the day at 2:50pm. The Graduation Social Event will be held in EPAC that night. Information has gone out to the Year 6 families with information about the event and a link to purchase tickets for the event through trybooking. The cost of tickets for a 3-course catered buffet dinner will be $45 per head. There will be a DJ to entertain the students after the dinner. There is a limit on three tickets per student to the dinner (graduate and two parents) only due to capacity in EPAC and with the caterers.
We are still looking for more parents available to assist with tasks such as setting up, cleaning up, decorating the EPAC and setting up a photo booth. Please contact Tina Burrows at school if you would like to help out before or after the event.

WEEK 11
We have developed a plan for the ‘soft’ week of school in week 11 as there will be no formal activities or formal teaching of the Australian Curriculum occurring during that week. All official school events will be finalised by the usual end of week 10 of the term and week 11 will be supervision and alternative activities for those students’ requiring supervision. Students will be supervised in classes, which may not be their own class teacher and may be combined with other year levels dependent on the numbers attending.
Therefore, if families are wishing to go on holidays early, they can go at the end of week 10 as usual, without missing anything important at school. This will enable our teaching teams time to do some very important planning and preparation for next year, but of course this is dependent on how many students are at school and are requiring supervision.
We ask that if you know your child/children will not be attending school in week 11 that you let the office know as soon as possible. Hopefully, with less students attending in week 11 we will be able to collapse classes so that our teachers get some planning and preparation time for the new school year before heading into the holidays.
STUDENT CODE OF CONDUCT SURVEY
Thank you to those parents who completed the recent Student Code of Conduct survey to feed into the review of our Student Code of Conduct document, processes and artefacts. We looked at this data at the recent School Council Meeting and are now updating the documents ready for sharing with the school community prior to the new school year.
CHANGES TO THE TEACHING OF READING IN AUSTRALIAN CURRICULUM V9
With the new version 9 of the Australian Curriculum there are significant changes to the way that reading is to be taught in Australian Schools. The DoE have created a suite of resources for parents and have been running a twilight workshop in preparation for these changes. We have trained two teachers as our Reading Leaders (Mrs Moeser and Mrs Egerton) and our School Leaders are working with them to develop our implementation plan for the next two years. As there are significant changes to long term practises in schools such as PM/PROBE Reading Testing, Sight Words, Reading Groups etc. the roll out will take time. Attached below is a brochure created for parents re the changes and also a link to the reading workshops that have been held for parents.

NEW SCHOOL’S OFFICER
Our new temporary School’s Officer has started with us this week. His name is Reynaldo Delatorre, so if you see him around, please welcome him to our wonderful ESS community.
CHAPLAINCY
Recently the Local Chaplaincy Committee were advised that our Chappy Twinkee will be completing her studies at the end of this year and taking fulltime employment in the new year. This will mean that our Chaplain position will be vacant.
At the P&C meeting, discussions were had around the option of changing to a new Wellbeing Officer also provided from the same funding. As this change can only occur when the position is vacant or at the end of funding agreement, it was decided to send a survey to all families in our school community to get an indication for ongoing support of having a Chaplain in our school or moving to the new Wellbeing Officer. I have provided some information below re the two roles but basically both positions do the same role, but the Chaplains are provided by Scripture Union and Wellbeing Officers can come a from range of different approved providers to meet the funding guidelines.
Therefore, a survey will be emailed out to all families shortly and it would be great if each family could decide if they would support a Chaplain or a Wellbeing Officer moving forward for the rest of this funding period until 2027.
Once we determine the needs of the community this will be ratified at the next P&C meeting in November, so that we can move forward with either recruiting a new Chaplain or a Wellbeing Officer for 2025.
FACILITIES
We have had advice that the renovations of our Prep C and Year 1 classrooms will be happening over the holidays, so we look forward to seeing the plans for this work to occur. We have been allocated approximately $500,000 for this work which will be managed by a Project Manager employed under the project. We look forward to our classes moving into the renovated classrooms to start the 2025 school year.
As reported to the latest P&C meeting, we were unsuccessful again in gaining funding for the Prep playground from the Gaming Benefit Fund. As the need for this playground is urgent, we are now looking at trying to fund this through our school budget for next year in conjunction with the funds the P&C have pledged toward the project.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
Pillar Practice
This week’s Pillar Practice is a revision of the concept of “Flipping our Lid” – and looking at our brain. You may like to watch this short 7 minute video with your children to talk about this together. It is suitable for all year levels.
This video links really well to the Zones of Regulation – the red zone is when we access our ‘downstairs’ brain. If we recognise that we are heading into the red zone and might flip our lid, we can use various strategies that we can access – these visuals are taken straight from the Reflection Room resources.
There are currently 29 Year 5 students attending the Leadership Workshops and putting together their applications for our 9 captain positions.
Applications are due by 3pm on Thursday 14th November. There will be a shortlisting meeting for the School Captain position that afternoon. Students will be informed if they have been shortlisted for the position of School Captain on Friday 15th and they will have a week to prepare their speech.
Speeches will be presented on Friday 22nd November from 2pm in the EPAC. House Captain and Arts Captains are selected by the panel and the applicants do not make speeches for these positions. Good luck to all of our aspirational leaders!
Student Council News

Spell-a-thon
If you haven’t returned your Spell-a-thon Sponsorship money, please send it to the office ASAP. Prizes for the highest fundraisers will be presented at the Week 8 Assembly. Year Level Spelling Bees are going well and there has been lots of student support for their class representatives – we certainly have some fantastic spellers in our school!
The finalists for each year level will participate in the Spelling Bee Finals before assembly in the EPAC in Week 8 Monday 18 November.
Free Dress Day
Our departing Year 6 students were given the choice of theme for their final free dress day and they opted for a ‘Free Choice’ dress up day. Students are permitted to wear anything they like so long as it is school appropriate and includes their school shoes and hats. Please bring along a gold coin to support the Student Council.
Pizza Party
The student council will be organising a Pizza Party for the annual class celebration day on Thursday 5th December. Students will need to bring $5 cash in a named envelope to the office by Friday 29th November so that we can place the bulk order for the following week - please ensure any dietary requirements are also noted on this envelope (flavour choices are not accepted). Students should also bring their lunch box with additional fruit and snacks for during the day.
Pizzas will be delivered to classrooms at approximately 11am during the Pizza Party class party time in the middle session.
Remembrance Day
The Student Council will be selling Poppies under D Block this Friday morning and Monday morning for Remembrance Day. On Monday 11th November, the Defence Family students will be invited to the front garden with Mrs Robinson for the laying of a poppy wreath at the memorial. There will be a minute of silence just before the 11am bell.
Enoggera’s Got Talent
There have been so many entries for our first Enoggera’s Got Talent! Students will be provided with the date of their heat on Monday next week. Heats will be held in the EPAC on Thursday and Friday second break in Week 7, 8, and 9. Performances will be judged by Miss Kerwick, Mrs Burrows and Miss Dunstan. The judges’ decisions are final. Announcement of the finalists for the Enoggera’s Got Talent Final to be held at 12pm on Thursday 5th December will be made on Monday 2nd December. All students are welcome to attend to be part of the audience. Good luck to all the performers!
Swimming Lessons
Just a reminder that only students who have their lessons at 9am or 10am are allowed to wear their togs to school under their uniforms. There are many students arriving at school with their rashie shirts (often long sleeved) under their uniforms yet they do not swim until after the first or second break of the day. With the temperatures during the day becoming increasingly hotter, wearing togs under uniforms for such a long time is both very hot for students, uncomfortable and unhygienic. There is time allotted within the lesson time for changing in and out of swimmers for all classes. Please note that lessons finish in Week 8.
Swimming Carnivals are coming up soon in Week 9. We look forward to seeing lots of parents there. If you are coming to the senior carnival, please remember to bring a folding chair to sit on as the students will be in the stands during the event.

2024 Library Book Returns
As we draw closer to the end of the year, we are asking all students and families to return overdue library books in preparation for the Library to close off borrowing for the year in week 8. Return slips have been sent home to families and emails surrounding extended overdue books have also been emailed home. If after a good search you cannot locate you child's missing books please contact the office via email on admin@enoggerass.eq.edu.au to discuss payment arrangements for replacement.
Mrs Amy O'Malley
Head of Department, Curriculum
Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Please find below my updates for this coming fortnight.
MISSING/LOST LIBRARY BOOKS
Reminder slips and emails have been sent home to families with students who have outstanding library books. Please ensure you return these outstanding books to the school as soon as possible or contact me directly to discuss payment options for replacements.
TRYBOOKING.COM
Tickets for the Year 6 Graduation and Arts on Stage are now live through trybooking.com. Arts on Stage is happening on Thursday the 21st of November. It is an allocated seating event so please ensure you book quickly to secure your seat. The Year 6 graduation is capped at 150 tickets. Families are limited to only 1 ticket per graduating student and a maximum of two accompanying parents/caregivers.
ACCESS TO SCHOOL
Just a reminder to families that being onsite after hours is not allowed. We have lots of signs up around the school that state that when the school is closed, being on site is classed as trespassing. The only exception to this is when we have external hirers onsite and the P&C or school run events. Please ensure your children are aware of these rules as we have recently had some school property stolen after hours which has been reported to police link. We do have some security cameras in the school and footage will be handed over Police Link.
LOST PROPERTY
Just a reminder to parents and students that the school’s lost property is located directly under the administration office outside of the uniform shop. A big thank you to the parents in the community who have been collecting lost property daily and putting items in this area for students to collect.
Have a wonderful fortnight!

Swimming
Swimming continues through the term. With storm season upon us and some unsettled weather, on the day I will look at the relevant information and decide the safety of swimming. Students should always bring their swimming gear to school as having your equipment to swim is really important.
If your child isn’t able to swim, I do appreciate a notification email to inform me that your child is unable to participate in swimming.
Just a friendly reminder that parents are not allowed at any time in student change rooms due to student privacy and student protection rules and regulations.
Parent help is still very welcome in Prep to Year 2. If you are able to help either for one lesson or maybe each week please email Mr Andrew Woodrick at aawoo0@eq.edu.au . Adult support in these age groups makes a huge difference to our programs.
Swimming Carnivals
The Enoggera Swimming Carnivals will be the last sporting events for 2024. They are scheduled for Week 9 – Monday 25th November for Years 3 to 6 and Tuesday 26th November for Prep to Year 2.
The Senior Carnival will have a combination of competitive and non-competitive races. Students will be able to nominate for their events. The Junior Carnival will be all about participation and we hope to see students the majority of students swimming across the pool. Some students in Years 1 and 2 will be given an opportunity to swim a length of the pool, however this will be only be students that can prove their ability in the swimming lessons.
I understand there are students in the younger grades who are interested in swimming the entire pool, unfortunately we cannot do this safely for everyone. If you are interested in your students swimming the length of the pool, I would encourage you to join up with the Enoggera Swim School and swim on selected Friday nights.
Mr Andrew Woodrick
HPE Teacher

Trees
With the wet season rapidly approaching, this is a great time to plant some trees, especially in and around our beautiful city waterways and catchment areas. There are 8 black-bean tree saplings ready to transplant out of our school garden. They desperately need a new home (not around the house as they will become HUGE!) Email mharr94@eq.edu.au if interested.
Prep’s Digital Folio Page
Over the next few weeks, all Prep students will bring home their printed digital portfolio. There will also be some very special information on that document, to help prepare for Year One. Parents and guardians, please help your child by allowing them to use a keyboard at home from time to time, to learn to type in single capital letters, using the shift key. These keyboarding skills are now essential for learning in this ever evolving digital age!
Minecraft
After two weeks of the Year 3-6 Minecraft trial, just a quick reminder that there are very strict rules and specific instructions for students to follow when using Minecraft Education. I would hate to see students lose computer privileges and have to complete alternative pencil and paper activities. There have only been a few small misdemeanours so far, and I have been very pleasantly surprised to learn how many VERY SKILLED Minecraft players (of all ages) we have at Enoggera State School. I am thoroughly appreciating the assistance from our student experts, as we construct our “Worlds” together.
Parents and guardians - if your child is inclined to use this software, take the time to sit beside them and be amazed at their digital creations and what Minecraft has to offer. Students are encouraged to access Minecraft Education when at home. It must be installed on a home computer. Download this specific version.
Students may then use their school credentials at home, to access the resources and continue work on their Digi Tech task to build a modern, space saving urban garden. Students are discouraged from sharing their Worlds at home. If students are meeting and chatting together in a World, remember Mr Harris’ daily mantra: “Everything you do or say on the internet, stays on the internet!”
FINALLY - A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Students may only build a new World from “scratch”, in Minecraft Education, after first gaining written permission from Enoggera State School. An application can be emailed or handed to Mr Harris. Currently, we have one group of students with approval building a model computer processor in their own Minecraft World.
