This week I was lucky to be able to visit our instrumental music classes, hearing fabulous performances from our students. I was amazed at the wonderful improvement evident; credit to the students and thank you to the parents who continue to provide support. The time put into practice is clear. Thanks to Mrs Moore for her tireless work with our instrumental students.

Last Friday our Year 5 and 6 students competed in the Volleyball Cup. We can be proud of the students who attended with positive reports of their behaviour and sportsmanship. Overall Enoggera placed 7th, ahead of many much larger schools. Our Year 5 Girls and Boys ‘Red’ teams were awarded Bronze medals. Thanks to Mrs Jardine for organising the teams and providing lunch time practice sessions and Mr Roxburgh, Mrs Kellin and Miss Green for attending the event and supporting our students over the day.
Congratulations Logan for his entry in the Premier’s Coding Challenge. We were treated to a short video produced by Logan about his game, which is focused on a cyber-safety message.
Our new computer lab and focus on digital technology is paying off!
Our Prep information session, held recently, was well attended. I have heard some discussion from prospective parents on whether to start Prep in 2021 or choose to repeat kindy due to the disruptions experienced in 2020. At Enoggera State School we believe there is no better way to show our children that we have faith in them and their abilities than to move into 2021 with confidence and high expectations. Beginning Prep in 2021 will be an exciting step for your Kindy child as he or she leaps into the excitement of school, under the care and guidance of our exceptional Prep teachers. The structure and care our teachers provide to all of our Preps as they begin their new adventure into formal education is always highly valued, but never more so than in 2021. If you have any reservations regarding your child’s readiness for school next year, please do not hesitate to contact us.
As we end Term 3, I wish all our students a relaxing and safe holiday. I will be on Long Service Leave for the first five and a bit weeks of Term 4. My replacement will be Eliza Borsht who I’m sure will enjoy her time at Enoggera.

What a wonderful term we have had in Year 3. The Year 3 teachers have been so impressed with the hard work of all of the students. Thank you to all of the parents who made the time to come in for a parent teacher interview over the past couple of weeks. It has been such a strange year that it was really great to connect and have conversations with so many parents.
This term the students have completed a detailed novel study of “Kumiko and the Dragon”. The students learnt about the cultural elements of the story as well as comprehending visual features. To demonstrate their understanding they created their own narrative in which their character overcame a fear. They also had to create illustrations featuring different camera angles and turn it all into a multimodal presentation. It was a challenging task, but they all did a wonderful job. Some fantastic examples of this writing is below.

If you ever drive into Happy Road number nineteen you will find a smart woman with her brown hair tied up in a bun, an engineer who can’t resist racing cars and a teenager with brown hair that looks like a bird’s nest who can’t get off her phone. That’s the whole family if you don’t count the charming loving Charlotte. Charlotte has gorgeous peach skin that goes well with her shimmering shining gold hair just below her chest. Her hazel eyes don’t go well with anything but they make her brilliantly unique. Her nails are always coloured with pink, purple or aqua. But one day Charlotte’s parents came home with a surprise that Charlotte wasn’t expecting.

That night John heard the same rumbling noise and made him think about the story his friends told him and made him wonder if the story is real. He saw something furry outside his window and heard the rumbling noise. Now John was shivering with fear. How was he supposed to survive? Should he hide? Should he call for help? John saw sharp teeth and a tail! John was so frightened he thought his head might pop off!

One night as Emma’s parents were sleeping Emma heard the noises again but this time they were coming from the kitchen and she heard banging. Emma jumped up out of bed urgently wanting to run straight to her parents room but couldn’t. The only reason Emma couldn’t go running to her parent’s room was because they were all the way at the end of the hallway opposite to the dark secret room. Emma was so desperate to open the door to the secret room but she was too scared.
In Art we explored creating different artworks using found objects. Now that we’re nearing the end of the term, our students are drawing a dragon on watercolour paper and learning new painting techniques with oil pastels and watercolours. Some of these artworks are displayed below!

Lastly this term, the students have also looked at the way that heat transfers from one object to another during our Science unit “Hot Stuff”. Through a variety of different experiments, both Year 3 classes have been able to observe the 3 main forms of heat transfer and have conducted several scientific reports with the data they collected.

Music Edstudio
The current Junior Choir and Senior Choir songs including lyrics and backing tracks have been uploaded to the Music Edstudio for any keen singers to practice with at home or over the holidays. This is the same Edstudio used for Online Learning earlier in the year. The aim is to get the Recorder Club songs up soon for kids to practice with.

We are currently planning our Term 4 Swimming. The start to our swimming for Term 4 is to be delayed as we are expecting work on painting the pool to be carried out over the next few weeks. It is anticipated that we will commence lessons in Week 3, but this is dependent on the completion of painting works.
Swimming is part of the Physical Education (PE) Curriculum, as such it is expected that all students will participate in weekly lessons on either a Wednesday or Thursday during scheduled PE lessons.
Due to current Covid Guidelines and the requirement to minimise additional adults on school premises, it has been decided that for this term we will redeploy some teacher aides to support those classes who require additional assistance to maintain safety ratios. No parent volunteers are required.
