Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE WELLBEING FOCUS
This week in our Learning Curve Program, we are focussing on the Wellbeing Element of Meaning and Purpose. The wellbeing builder is: Strength of Character.
The focus this week is about using your character strengths such as courage and kindness for 3 things: to be kind to others, to say sorry when it is needed and to forgive others. Sometimes, when something happens and we feel like we should apologise to someone and we don't, we tend to carry that around with us as emotional baggage and we tend to feel guilty. If we use our character strengths to be kind and courageous, we will then be able to say sorry and forgive others. When we do these things, we are letting go of that emotional baggage and helping ourselves to feel better. This is why in the How - it says be kind to others and be kind to yourself. So, this week think about showing courage and kindness to your peers, which will ensure you are able to say sorry and can forgive others.
MULTI-PURPOSE ROOF
As explained yesterday in the letter sent out to all families, the craning in of the steel for the roof project over the multi-purpose court is now well underway. Due to some sudden changes, the school oval on Thursday-Friday this week will be unusable to ensure the project remains on track. We will experience slight disruptions over these two days with school access. The small gate next to the church from Laurel St will be the only gate open at the back of the school. Students and parents/caregivers will still be able to access the school from South Pine Road. There will be no access to the EPAC, EPAC walkways, the Library and the Yr 3-6 end of the oval. We think this is the best outcome to enable the project to continue on track.
FULL SCHOOL REVIEW
This week we received the reports from our Full School Review that was held in the last week of last term. As outlined at the exit meeting with leadership and the school staff they found some very positive affirmations and have made some recommendations which will guide our Quadrennial School Review (QSR) process this year to feed into our Strategic Plan for the next four years from 2024-2027. Their findings have been summarised into the infographic below. The Executive Summary Report will go up on our school website shortly and school leaders will begin to unpack the full report with staff and plan the QSR process.
CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to our Cross-Country runners who represented our school at the City District Cross Country trials last week. From all reports they performed well and represented our school well. Well done runners and thank you to Mr Woodrick and Mrs Fitzpatrick for their superb organisation and supervision of our students on the day. Thank you to those parents who were able to go along to support them also.
P & C DISCO
It was lovely on Friday night to see our students and parents having a great time at the disco at Everton Park SHS. A huge thank you to the P & C and parents who helped out in the night with serving food and drinks and supervision on the night.
It was great to see our families supporting the P & C who support the school both in-kind and financially through strategic projects and also provide services to our school community through the uniform shop and Tuck Inn.
CHAPLAINCY
Just a reminder that we are supporting Chaplaincy Week in School from May 22 to May 26. During this week we welcome Chappy Twinkee and we celebrate the launch of the Slime Run with a Colour Explosion Dress Up day on Tuesday 23 May. The Slime Run will be held on the second last day of the school term in the last session as a major fundraiser for the Local Chaplaincy Committee which funds the shortfall in wages for us to keep a Chaplain in our school 2 days per week. We look forward to as much community support as possible for this event. Students should have received their packs of information about the Slime Run and parents should now have a portal page set up to manage their child’s fundraising online.
OPEN DAY
On May 26 we will hold our first Open Day for this year aimed at families who are looking to enrol here for 2024 either in Prep or other year levels. If you know of families who live in our catchment and are hoping to come to Enoggera State School please let them know of the coming Open Day which will commence in EPAC with a talk about the school which will be followed by a tour of the facilities.
PRINCIPAL’S CONFERENCE
I will be away at the Qld Association of State School’s Principal’s (QASSP) Conference at the Brisbane International Convention Centre at Bowen Hills on Thursday and Friday (11 and 12 May). While I am away Deputy Principal, Mrs Tina Burrows will be Acting Principal.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
Dress Code
As the weather cools down, it is a good time to remind parents that students are required to either wear a school jacket available at the uniform shop (open Tuesday morning from 8am); or a plain jumper in a school blue colour. Students are not permitted to wear hoodies or jumpers with any printing or designs on them.
Girls are permitted to wear blue stockings (or black if blue is unavailable). All students can also wear plain school blue tracksuit pants. This Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
National Walk Safely to School Day
Students and parents are invited to join us on Friday 19th May for the National Walk Safely to School Day. We will be meeting in Shand Street Park on Corbett St at 8am and then walking to school safely together via Laurel St. We hope that you can join us!
Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. We encourage all of our parents to follow our page so you can enjoy the wonderful experiences our school has to offer. The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.
Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars including Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement.
This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around learning – focusing on having a go at all learning tasks, and being respectful of everyone’s right to learn without distraction or disruption. All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school.
The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
STUDENT COUNCIL
The Student Council held an excellent meeting last week with Mrs Robinson and Mrs Burrows. They will be holding a fundraising Meal Deal on the last week of term – hopefully on the Senior Athletics Carnival Day. The students voted to have another Subway Meal Deal. Information will be sent home to parents in the coming weeks.
The Student Council also voted to reintroduce the Walking Feet Gotcha as they believe it is an effective way to ensure that students are not running on the concrete areas. There will also be a Random Acts of Kindness Day on Friday 26th May in which students will be given special Kindness Gotchas for any acts of kindness that they show, and throughout the following week. These gotchas will be drawn on the Assembly in Week 8.
The Student Council also discussed their concerns about student behaviour in the toilets and have reminded students of some key messages including not to play in or around the toilets; to use the soap dispensers responsibly and to put paper towel in the bins. Your help in discussing these expectations with your children would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, the Student Council supports the Sustainability Club’s Wrapper Free Wednesday initiative and ask that parents consider how they can reduce waste in lunch boxes on Wednesday.
Pink Vest Volunteers
With so many aspiring leaders at Enoggera State School, last year Mrs Burrows introduced Pink Vest Volunteers as an opportunity for senior students to take on a leadership role. Each term, students in Year 5 and 6 are invited to join Mrs Burrows’ Pink Vests Team. These students volunteer to support in various areas of the playground and the library. Students help specifically in the P-2 Fort and in the sandpit. Their role is to help students with their social skills including taking turns and sharing.
This is a huge help to the teachers on duty to know that responsible students are watching over younger students.
On assembly last week, the pink vest volunteers from Term One were recognised and thanked with a certificate and a ‘prize’ from the Pink Vest prize box – and yes all the prizes were pink! These students give up two lunch breaks per week to be a volunteer and their commitment is valued and celebrated by our school community.
SLIME RUN
This term we are fundraising for the School Chaplaincy service with a Slime Spectacular School Fun Run with Australian Fundraising! The Slime Spectacular School Fun Run will be on Thursday 22nd June from 1.30pm.
Students will be given free sunglasses and a rainbow headband for the event. The students will be covered in non-toxic water-based slime from head to toe! (Safety data sheet is available upon request for the Slime).
Fundraising for our Slime Spectacular School Fun Run is entirely online. Follow the instructions in your child’s sponsorship booklet to create a cybersafe, online profile page at www.australianfundraising.com.au. At the end of our fundraiser students can order up to a total of 5 prizes based on their donations received. They can even mix and match!

The Year 5 and 6 students have jumped straight back into learning in Term 2! They are continuing to hone their literacy skills through our persuasive unit, reading groups and spelling program. In Maths, students are investigating types of angles, working on orders of operations, symmetry, as well as multiplication and division.
Students have also been avidly discovering our solar system and all the amazing inventions that have helped us in our daily lives – only made possible from space exploration. Did you know that it’s because of space exploration we have smoke alarms?

They have also become urban planners, thinking about what it takes to build a town. Soon they will be investigating what actions to take to keep the town safe from natural disasters like floods, cyclones and bushfires.
We are looking forward to a great term, culminating in some great activities like our sports day and slime run!
Term 2 is proving to be an interesting time when it comes to sport. Right now, the weather has taken a cold turn. For many students, a jumper is required at the start of the lesson, but is quickly discarded when the activity starts. Any jumpers left behind will be placed in lost property unless it’s clearly named and I can return it.
City District Cross Country.
Last Wednesday 3rd May students from years 3-6 participated in the City District Cross Country. They did incredibly well and pushed themselves very hard against some strong competition.
Unfortunately, this year no runners have progressed to the next level of competition however, we did come second in the C Schools division which is a terrific effort. Well-done to all the runners. You did yourselves and our school proud.
A big thanks to Mrs Fitzpatrick who managed the team at the event.
School PE
We are now well and truly preparing for our athletics carnival. Running, jumping and throwing is our focus.
Parents, can you please ensure your child has their hat for PE. There are a growing number of students without hats for the PE lessons that impacts everyone’s learning.
School Athletics
Carnival dates and locations are:
Junior carnival (grades Prep to 2) races and games Tuesday 20th June MORNING – School Oval
Senior High Jump (grade 3 to 6) Tuesday 20th June Afternoon – School Oval
Senior carnival (grade 3 to 6) Wednesday 21st June ALL DAY – Mt Maria playing fields
Running club
Apologies for the miscommunication, but running club will now only be held on Monday and Friday mornings. The mornings are a great time to do a few laps and help settle into the day ahead. All students from grades 3 to 6 are welcome.
With the upcoming athletics day, our focus will start on the 800m race in running club. This will be a nominated event (unlike the other events on the day), so some preparation will be required.
Hello parents and caregivers, just a quick reminder that some parents have credits on their student/s accounts. The only way to clear these are to call the school to apply to current invoices.
The year 5/6 camp deposit of $100.00 is also due by the end of this term being the 23rd of June. To pay this please come into the office or pay via the invoice online. Deposit payments cannot be paid in QParents.
Overdue invoices are required to be paid before students are able to attend an excursion/incursion run by the school. Please ensure invoices are paid by their due dates. If you have any questions or concerns around these rules feel free to contact me on 07 3550 1333 or email bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . Have a great week!

All volunteers are required to sign in at the office before each shift and then also sight and sign the Key Messages for the school. Once this is completed the school will keep a record and we encourage you to take a photo of this document and store it on your phone. The Key Messages are only to be completed once.
Qkr! Orders
We know when ordering on Qkr! it can get a bit tricky, and we have had an increase in the number of mistakes being made by parents and caregivers on tuckshop orders, resulting in children not having lunch supplied as expected, so here are some handy hints on making and cancelling orders. Please remember that you can always email or message our Facebook page if you need some help.
Please make sure all profiles are correct, and that you order for the correct child on the correct day.
If an ordering error does occur, the school will notify you and put you in touch with the tuckshop so a lunch can be provided. Please check your receipts in Qkr! to help identify the error and be considerate when speaking with our tuckshop convenor Rosetta or the volunteers as they help you to arrange a lunch for your child.
Please note that when you order for the wrong day and your child arrives with no lunch they will always be fed, once you have been notified by the school.

Mother’s Day Stall
The highlight for the Enoggera State School P & C Association every year are the Mother’s and Father’s Day Stalls. The students get so excited about being able to buy a special gift for the special people in their lives.
This year the Mother’s Day Stall is scheduled for Friday 12th May, gift vouchers can be purchased from the QKR! App, up until 8.00 pm on Thursday, 11th May. The denomination of the gift vouchers available are - $5, $10 and $15. Upon entry to the Mother’s Day Stall, students will be given the gift voucher(s) purchased under their QKR! profile, and they can then select a gift to the value of the voucher(s). Please note to help our volunteers, vouchers that are purchased are colour coded by denomination and that is what the child will spend on each present. Eg- $5 vouchers will go to the $5 table and purchase 1 gift. One gift per voucher.
Purchase the gift vouchers via QKR! App
- Under ‘EVENTS’ select Mother’s Day Stall Gift Vouchers.
- Select the Student Profile you are purchasing the voucher(s) for. You will need to purchase voucher(s) per student profile if you have more than 1 child attending Enoggera, as the vouchers will be allocated via student names to their classes.
