Dear Parent and Caregivers,
WAKAKIRRI
It was wonderful to attend the Wakakirri performance “I Am” on Thursday night at the Logan Entertainment Centre to see our students shine. Our performance in the words of the Wakakirri Ambassador, Leah Clark, “Such a well-rehearsed and polished performance. Great choreography that supported but didn’t distract from the main story. All students performed brilliantly with such confidence. Great simple costuming, sets and projection.”
We were awarded the ‘Ensemble Award for Overall Performance’ on the night and have consequently been invited back to perform again at the Showcase Awards night on September 8th.
On assembly this week we not only acknowledged the great performance and hard work our students have put across two terms, but we also acknowledged the staff who have made this happen. We especially thanked Miss Dunstan for her choreography, leadership and creativity and her support staff of Mrs Hall, Mrs Harris, Mr Harris and Ms Kerr. We also thanked Mr Edhouse, the Pre-service teacher who assisted on the night and also Mrs Rees who drove down to assist in bringing back props.
As usual our whole school community is behind our Waka team as they maintain their motivation and continue to polish their performance ready to perform again. We wish them all the best, or as they say in Waka land-Chookas!
PREP OPEN MORNING
Last week we held our final Prep Open Morning for the year with a number of families attending to hear about wonderful school and to go on a tour of the facilities. Our Prep Enrolments Meeting bookings are now open for enrolled families to make a time to attend their Prep Enrolment Meeting. There are slots available over the last two weeks of school currently and then if needed we can open up more spots early next term.
Once our in-catchment enrolments are finalised we will then be able to look at offering enrolment interviews to some of our 'out of catchment families' before we move to the Prep Transition mornings on Friday November 3 and 17. On those mornings the 2024 Prep students will participate in a morning of activities in class whilst the parents participate in Prep Information sessions in EPAC. The Transition mornings go from 9-11am on each of the days. The P and C will run a special uniform shop access for those mornings.
EXCURSIONS
Recently our Year 2 students attended Lone Pine as part of their learning for their English unit where they have to write an information report on an Australian animal. They had a great day leaning all about the animals their diet, habitats etc.
Last week our Year 3 students attended the Nudgee Beach Environmental Education Centre to participate in the ‘Young Curious Scientist Program’ as part of their Science unit this term. Students were able to observe and group unique plants and animals in their natural habitat and learn how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples may have alternative forms of classification.
As we have several more excursions and off campus activities coming up over the next couple of weeks of this term it is a timely reminder to families that when students are leaving the school on excursion, they are representatives of the school and must be in full school uniform and of exemplary behaviour at all times. If students arrive at school without the correct uniform parents will be phoned or students may be excluded from the excursion. Likewise, if behaviour at school prior to the activity is not to a satisfactory standard, students may not be invited to attend these excursions/activities and camps as this can pose additional supervision and safety risks for the activity.
With all of these excursions/activities happening this term on top of some other incursions and all of them requiring permissions and some payments, I encourage parents to stay informed and to meet deadlines for permissions and payments.
If activities have payment required the payment and permissions go to the administration office and if just permissions with no payments these can be managed by the class teachers. It is the responsibility of parents to meet payment deadlines otherwise the invoices lapse and students will be unable to attend.
TEACHER AIDE APPRECIATION WEEK
This week across Australia is Teacher Aide Appreciation Week, where we acknowledge the great work our Teacher Aides do to support Teachers and students every day of the school year. We are blessed here at Enoggera to have experienced and passionate Teacher Aides in our work force and we love nothing better to acknowledge them as the unsung heroes in our school.
We presented our Teacher Aides with a certificate of appreciation on assembly this week and will also celebrate with them at a staff morning tea later in the week. I know that some of our classes are also preparing a little thank you for the Teacher Aides who work in their classrooms as well.
READERS CUP AND MATHS TOURNAMENT
Our winning Reader’s Cup team have been working hard on their new books in preparation to represent Brisbane North at the coming State Finals Competition next Thursday. We wish Layla, Jarvis, Charlee, Patrick and Adelyn all the best as they head off to do their school and region proud.
Some of these same students are in Wakakirri and have been rehearsing hard for that and are also in the Maths Tournament and have been preparing for that competition as well. They competed in the Maths Tournament on Monday this week and whilst not placing on the day did very well to work together as a team to tackle some very difficult Mathematics problems. We were represented by two Year 5/6 mixed teams on the day and both teams tried their hardest and showed amazing tenacity and resilience to keep pushing forward in the competition. Thank you to Ms Burrows and Ms Kerr who have been preparing our Maths students and also to Ms Kerr and Mrs McKenzie who attended the competition with them on the day.
FAMILY FUN DAY
Our wonderful P and C are running their big fundraiser for the year on Saturday September 9. This will be the Family Fun Day where there will be lots of things for families to enjoy together with rides, stalls, yummy food and activities to do.
We look forward to the whole school community getting behind our P and C to support this bi-annual event on the school calendar. Our P and C have worked hard for many years to raise $187,000 towards the Multi-Purpose Court Roof. Now it is time to restock the bank account so that we can plan for the next big projects in the school and to supplement the grants we currently have in the ‘Gaming Benefit Fund’ for a new Prep Playground and also the ‘Go For Gold Grant’ for the pool heating and fencing refurbishment.
STUDENT FREE DAY
This Friday September 1 is the annual September Flexible Student Free Day on the DoE calendar, which was typically put aside for moderation purposes. As our Teachers’ have completed their interschool moderation hours as twilight PDs after school this year with Stafford State School, our Teachers, Teacher Aides, Admin and Leaders will be off site on Friday with only the School’s Officer, Cleaners and Camp Australia on site on that day.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal

Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. Click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events.
The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office.
Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.
Please remember to never make comments on the page referencing a child’s name for privacy reasons.

We have introduced a ‘red card system’ to our behaviour management during break times. This is inspired by the recent interest in the World Cup. Students will first be warned about physical behaviours, and if the behaviour continues, they will be ‘red carded’ and sent to the Reflection Room for a time out for the remainder of this break. They will be counselled around strategies they could use to manage their physical outbursts. A reflection sheet will not be completed; however, parents will be informed via email about attending to Time Out. We are hoping that by being removed from the situation in which they have become physical and speaking immediately about other strategies, that this may help to teach our students some self-management strategies and reduce the number of physical incidents occurring both in general play and soccer games.
Best Line Up and Best Eating Area
Congratulations to our winners of the Best Line Up and Best Eating Area for the past fortnight. Mrs Robinson and Ms Burrows were out and about monitoring over the last two week. There has been a huge improvement in the eating area behaviour with a special mention to the improvement in the Year 3/4 Eating Area. Line up has also improved with a special mention to Year 4 for their improvement. The winning class and year level will be rewarded with additional 10 minutes playtime on a Friday afternoon of their choice supervised by Ms Burrows and Mrs Robinson. Keep up the great work everyone!
Uniform Reminder
A reminder that students are required to wear ALL black shoes to school as part our Dress Code. Socks should be white only. As the year moves towards our last term, it is important that we maintain our dress code at all times. For our older students who are interested in applying for leadership positions, adherence to the dress code is taken into account in their application. As the weather warms up, please ensure that your children are bringing their water bottles and hats to school every day!

Term 3 has been a busy term for year one as they have been learning to write descriptive retells. They are getting very clever in using nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs to vividily describe what happens in the beginning, middle and end of a story.
The children have been illustrating, using puppets and acting out their retells to entertain each other and practice their use of new vocabulary.
The children have also been learning about good listening and speaking techniques through pretending to interview a character. After creating interesting questions, they then present them to their friends and enjoy their responses. Dressing up and using microphones add to the fun!

To participate, registered students drop by the computer Lab first or second breaks (after eating). New students require a signed consent form (email mharr94@eq.edu.au or collect one from Mr Harris during Digi Tech).
Well done to the students who have already completed the questions. I have seen a big improvement since Term 1!

Interschool Sport
Gala Days for the Years 5 & 6 are being planned for City District Schools for three Fridays in early Term 4. Notes will be going home shortly and will be due back by the last week of school.
Swimming
We will be returning to the pool for our PE lessons in Term 4. Please keep an eye out for notes over the next week, with days of lessons and times where you may be asked to help if you have a little one in Prep to Year 2.
With the holidays just around the corner it is a good time to make sure that your student – not only has everything they need for swimming but that they also fit and are ready to go.
- Swimming Bag (suitable to hold all swimming gear and uniforms when in the pool).
- Swimmers (please avoid cross overs straps for our younger students if possible as they can cause difficulties when getting changed for our little ones.)
- Towel
- Swimming Cap (COMPULSORY)
- Sunsafe Shirt (this may be either a rash vest or a T-shirt)
- Goggles (Recommended)
- Plastic Bag to carry wet swim wear after lessons.
(Please make sure ALL items of clothing are marked with the students name – this includes school uniforms.)
Brisbane Festival has great family activities for these school holidays! ‘Swim’ under the sea into a shark cage at Erth’s Shark Dive, learn circus skills at Flipside Circus, enjoy a storytelling adventure with a Tassie Tiger at Hide the Dog, check out some mind-blowing circus, dance & comedy at Cirque Bon Bon, or join in with our spectacular Closing Concert, All Together Now.
NetSetGo is an introductory netball program for girls and boys from the age of 5 to 10. It provides a fun and safe environment where children can learn fundamental motor skills related to netball through activities and modified games. This year we are also running a PLAY component, designed for 10 - 12 year olds who are new to netball or have just started playing at school. These sessions will allow them to learn the necessary skills and confidence to play competitive netball.
