Dear Parents and Caregivers,
WELCOME
Welcome back to all of our current students and also to the new families who have joined us here at Enoggera State School for the 2025 school year. We hope your time with us is enjoyable and positive and that your children make some lasting friendships within our lovely school community. I particularly extend a warm welcome to all of our new Prep families, as this may be your very first association with the school, we look forward to you becoming involved in the school and making some lasting partnerships with you and your children.
As usual, at school we have a busy year ahead with many exciting and educational activities planned, to ensure we bring out the very best in each student and that we do our utmost to prepare them for what lies ahead in the future. We look forward to working closely with our parents and caregivers throughout the year as a team to bring this goal to fruition, because as they saying goes, “It takes a village to raise a child!”

STUDENT FREE DAYS
During the days before school recommenced, our staff were very busy participating in professional development, planning meetings and setting up classrooms. Staff undertook professional development around our school priorities: First Aid, DoE Mandatory Training, Universal Design of Learning, the teaching of Reading, and online tools Cars and Stars, Reading Eggs, Mathletics and Mathseeds. I am very appreciative of the professionalism of our staff and the way they approach these days to make them as beneficial as possible.
INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATE
The refurbishment project for C and B Block is in its final stages with full completion due over the Easter vacation when the operable doors, new entry doors and pinboards/autex fabric will be finalised. This week they are finalising the data works at night and are finishing the install of the augmented hearing system into each of the classrooms.
We certainly are very pleased with the works and the refresh this has given to these classrooms with the new teaching wall, including LED interactive panel and augmented hearing system, paint, floorcoverings, fittings, air conditioning and additional cabinetry. The securing of the verandahs in these areas with screens and gates is also a blessing for student safety and also securing of furniture etc out of hours.
We are very thankful to the DoE project managers and the builders for the great work and the value add this has given our school. We just need to get ourselves on a list for a future upgrade of A Block and then the whole school will have had an upgrade in recent years.
PARENT INFORMATION SESSIONS and PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Next Tuesday evening, 11th February, we will hold our annual Parent Information Sessions where parents can attend the classrooms to meet with the teachers to hear about the new school year and the routines and expectations for their child’s class.
There will be two repeat sessions at 4:30 and then again at 5:15 to allow working families to get to them and also to allow families with multiple children to get to at least two of the sessions. There will be a sign in sheet at each session so that information can be forwarded to families who are unable to attend on the evening.
The sessions will finish with a Q&A session, so if you have questions suitable for the whole group, please save these for then. If you wish to meet with the teacher individually about your child, this is not the right time, but you should make another time convenient for both to have a more in-depth conversation.
Our first round of formal Parent Teacher Interviews for this year will be held this term in week 10 on Tuesday 1st of April in EPAC between 3:15 and 7:15pm. More information will go out in the coming weeks about using the SOBS program to book your interview spots.
STUDENT LEADER INVESTITURE CEREMONY
Next week during our assembly time we will hold our student leader investiture ceremony for 2025. At this ceremony we will invite the Year 3-6 students and families of the students being invested into leadership positions to attend. The ceremony will be held in EPAC commencing at 2pm. The ceremony will include investing our:
- School Captains- Zoe Want and Miranda Aguirre
- School Vice-Captain and Student Council Chairperson- Charlotte McDonald
- House Captains: Waratah - Harry Howard and Hamish Dow, Banksia -Matias Cabrera and Harry Peart
- Arts Captains- Ella Brauer and Sienna Grice
-
- Class Student Council Representatives- still being selected by their classes in Year 3-6.
Invitations will go home to those students being invested this week. The students will receive their badges of office and undertake the oath of office. Following the ceremony, we will have afternoon tea outside EPAC. Students being invested are asked to wear their full school uniform including all black shoes and white socks, school polo (not sports polo) and to have their hair neat and tidy with school coloured hair ties.
NAPLAN
This term we will undertake NAPLAN testing for our Year 3 and 5 students online between March 12 and 21. We ask that you do not make appointments or plan holidays during this time as it is important that all students have the opportunity to participate in this testing program as it provides valuable data to inform their future learning journey and school improvement strategies. If you have concerns about your child sitting the NAPLAN tests and require information about possible withdrawal or exemption or special considerations, please make an appointment to see me, so that we can discuss these options and complete the required paperwork.
MORNING ROUTINES
To ensure the drop off in the morning is as smooth as possible, it is most important that parents of our younger students who are waiting with their child wait in the Prep and Yr 1 eating/line up areas only. Other areas (D Block and E Block and the Astro turf) are supervised by staff and are play areas from 8:30am and if parents are waiting in these areas, they are impeding staff visibility and effectiveness of their supervision role.
When the bell goes it is important the students are encouraged to line up in two lines to wait for their teacher. It is helpful if parents can step back at this time to allow the children to do this independently, as we are finding at present that parents are standing in the lines and getting in the way of the teacher taking over.
Parents should aim to use the “band aid” method which is to say goodbye quickly and tell them you will be back this afternoon and leave promptly. If you are lingering then students pick up on this and start to lose confidence. Holding their hand in the line, carrying their bags and following them in the line is not helping them gain independence and is prolonging the goodbye. Parents should have a plan to gradually move towards independence in the morning drops offs, particularly by Year 1.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
WELCOME TO 2025
After a relaxing holiday, it was with great excitement that I returned to Enoggera State School for 2025. There is always such a sense of anticipation on that first day as students return with their box of books and big smiles on their faces as they join their new class for the year. As always, it is exciting to see our brand-new preppies arriving in their uniforms for their first day of school! Overall, it was a very smooth start to the year with students across all grades settling in quickly to their classes and getting to know their new teachers. I am looking forward to the year ahead and enjoying all the things that make our school great! Let’s all thrive in 2025!
BEFORE SCHOOL PROCESSES
PREP students
- All Prep parents are asked to wait with their own children only under C Block before school. Students should be sitting with their parents at this time. Other students without parents must be seated under D Block.
- Year One parents are asked to wait with their own children only under A Block before school.
- Prep and Year One students under their parent supervision are to remain seated and not play in these areas.
- We kindly ask that parents do not wait under E Block as this is the thoroughfare to the boys’ toilets and a handball area, and is easier to monitor with no parents and students waiting in this area.
- When the bell rings at 8:45am, Prep students will remain under C Block and line up for Mrs Egerton, Miss Enoch and Mrs Rossiter/Mrs Boone. Parents are to say goodbye to their children downstairs and help them to line up to walk up to class.
- Parents are asked not to go upstairs with the students as it causes congestion on the stairs and on the veranda which is unsafe.
Year 1 students
- When the bell rings at 8:45am, Year 1s are to line up under A Block (near the Uniform Shop) to line up for Mrs Nelson/Mrs Prill, Mrs Gradwell and Miss Hunt.
- Students under D Block are not to deliver bags to their line up areas when they arrive at school, but to keep them with them until line up time.
- All students without parent supervision are to sit and wait under D Block.
- From 8:30 these students are permitted to play handball or skip on the AstroTurf if they choose.
Years 3 to 6 students
- Students in Year 3 – 6 wishing to participate in Kilometre Club will be walked to the grandstand by a Teacher Aide on duty at 8:30am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting in Week 2.
- When the bell rings at 8:45am, all students are asked to put equipment away and return to under D Block. The staff on duty will then walk each year level to their line up areas.
- Year 3A & B are to walk via the library to their line up area, not through the building breezeway.
Front Gate
In trying to be helpful, some students or parents are using a rock from the front garden to hold back the front gate on South Pine Road leaving it wide open! This is very unsafe for our new preppies who may wander off and see the open gate that leads to a very busy road! Please ensure that you keep our front gate closed at all times. Thanks for your help with this.
Hats and Water Bottles
During these hot summer months, please remember to ensure your child is coming to school with their hat and a water bottle every day! It is easy for students to become overheated and dehydrated if they are not drinking water throughout the day. As always, please ensure your child’s property is clearly labelled. Only school hats are permitted, caps are not allowed at school or at after school care.
Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. Click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events.
If you have a Facebook page, we encourage all of our parents to follow our page so you can enjoy the wonderful experiences our school has to offer. The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate comments will be removed from the platform. Please remember to never make comments on the page referencing a child’s name for privacy reasons.
Playground Rosters
To ensure that all students have a fair go on the various play areas that are very popular, in Term One we implement a roster system for both the junior school and senior school allocating where each level can play each break. Of course, students can opt to attend clubs, go to the library or play on the AstroTurf or under D Block and E Block if they choose. If the roster states Year 1 in Sandpit, this means they can’t go to the Fort or Oval at that break, but can still choose to go to the other options rather than the sandpit!
Stop, Drop and Go

The expectation is the same for Laurel St Stop, Drop and Go. Please do not park in this zone and leave your vehicle as it doesn’t allow for the traffic to flow. It is important to continually move your car to the front of the zone to allow cars to move in behind you. Our staff are working hard to ensure the safety of our students as they leave the school grounds and we appreciate your support with this by following our pick-up and drop-off processes.
School Dress Code
At the beginning of the school year, it is a good time for parents to reacquaint themselves with our School Dress Code. This Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference. A reminder that students are required to wear ALL black shoes to school as part our Dress Code. Socks should be white only and should not be pulled up to the knees.
Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars including Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is around Safe Transitions around our school.
All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school. The Student Engagement and Behaviour Focus Group reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our updated Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
Classes from Year 3 – 6 are currently going through a class selection process for their Student Council Class Representative. This student will be responsible for attending student council meetings with Mrs Robinson and Mrs Burrows and sharing ideas and feedback from their class around our school. The students who are elected by their peers to become Student Council representatives, will receive their badges at the Student Leaders’ Induction Ceremony next Monday 10th February at 2:00pm.
The Student Council will then meet in Week 3 for their first meeting of the year to discuss events, initiatives and fundraising ideas for the year ahead.
Good luck to all the students who self-nominate for this position.
Years 5 and 6 Leadership Roles
Apart from our 9 Captains, we are proud to offer many other opportunities for our Year 6 students to hold a leadership role. Along with the Tech Crew positions, this year we are introducing Pink Vest Volunteer Leaders and Enoggera Earthwork Environmental Leaders. Year 6 students are currently submitting applications to take on these leadership roles.
Pink Vest Volunteers are Year 5 and 6 students who work in pairs to support students in various locations across the school including:
- P-2 Fort
- Sandpit
- Setting up activities for Prep-Y1
- Library
- Prep Transitions (helping our Preppies move to play areas without getting lost!)
Once again, there were so many volunteers who attended the meeting to sign up. Each pair of students is rostered on 1 – 3 times per week. Their help with students in these areas is greatly appreciated by staff on duty. This is a great opportunity for aspirant leaders in Year 5 to develop their leadership skills.
Our Assembly/Tech Crew includes four positions for students to be part of this crew who assist with set up, sounds, AV, photography and management of assembly and other events. Application forms are available to Year 6 students this week from the office. I look forward to reading the applications. Successful applicants will be announced on Assembly in Week 4.
Head of Department, Curriculum News
Classroom Learning
Last week students arrived at school eager to join their classmates and begin their learning and learning routines for 2025. In week one and two our students have been undertaking diagnostic and pre – assessment in writing, spelling, reading comprehension and maths. This assists teachers with identifying students’ current levels of knowledge and understanding and helps the teachers plan the required teaching and learning episodes for the term.
Class Newsletters and Term Overviews
This Friday class teachers will be disseminating Term One curriculum learning area overviews and class newsletters. The term one curriculum overview provides information regarding the learning your child/children will be undertaking in all learning areas for the term. The class newsletter provides you with information pertaining to weekly timetables and resources needed on particular days. (eg. Library is on Monday. Homework to be returned on Wednesday). We encourage you to use this information to initiate discussions with your child about their learning during the term.
NAPLAN 2025
All students in Years 3 and 5 will be undertaking assessments in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy as part of the National Assessment Program in Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) between Wednesday 12th March – Monday 24th March 2025 (Week 7 and 8).
Year 3 will complete Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy online and complete the writing test in paper format.
Year 5 will complete Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy online.
In preparing for these assessments students have been developing required ICT skills and capabilities through weekly Digital Technology Lessons focussed on:
- Mouse Skills
- Logging on and off
- Keyboard Skills
- Icons, images and NAPLAN specific Tools
As part of daily classroom instruction students are being explicitly taught the literacy requirements of NAPLAN Testing through:
- Consolidation and practise of Question Types (e.g. Multiple Choice, short response)
- Reading Comprehension Strategies
- Teaching of Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation
- The teaching of Problem Solving using the See, Plan, Do, Check Model
- Planning, Drafting and Editing Texts
Students in Years 3 and 5 will sit a NAPLAN Practise Test in Week 5 on Wednesday 26th February to enable them to engage with the online platform, build confidence and practise their skills.
For information around NAPLAN and sample questions please view the below link. https://nap.edu.au/naplan/public-demonstration-site
Enoggera State School will be conducting a Parent NAPLAN Information Session for Year 3 and 5 Parents on Tuesday 18th February 5:00pm in the Library to provide detailed information regarding testing processes and requirements. We hope to see you there.
Library News
Students will be beginning library borrowing with their classes in Week 2. Just a reminder that students require a library bag to borrow in order to protect books. Teachers will provide information on class library borrowing in their term letters.
Book Club
Students received Issue 1 Book Club brochures last week. All Book Club purchases must be done online via https://bookclubs.scholastic.com.au/
Cash payments cannot be accepted by the school.
You will be directed to click here to go in to the LOOP service. If new to ordering you will be directed to create an account.
ORDERS ARE DUE BY the 17th FEBRUARY
Next week we will be having big celebrations in the library with it being Qld Schools Library Week and Library Lovers Day on Friday 14th February.
Students will be able to participate in a variety of reading and colouring activities to celebrate these two events. I look forward to sharing photos of our celebrations in upcoming newsletters.
Mrs Amy O'Malley
Head of Department, Curriculum
Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back!
Please find below my updates for this coming fortnight.

Just letting everyone know that we still have a whole box full of yearbooks available for purchase through the office. The cost to purchase one of these keepsakes is $28 and all purchases can be made directly through the office during opening hours.

Just letting all parents and carers know, invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolment and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only one paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you would like more information around this please email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online.
We strongly recommend all parents to sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the school's happenings. If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly.
ACCESS TO SCHOOL
Just a reminder to families that being onsite after hours is not allowed, even in school holidays. We have lots of signs up around the school that state that when the school is closed, being on site is classed as trespassing. The only exception to this is when we have external hirers onsite and P&C or school run events. Please ensure your children are aware of these rules as we have recently had some school property stolen after hours which has been reported to police link.
CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE
Did you know Queenslanders go through around 3 billion drink containers each year? Containers for change has created a way to recycle those containers that incentivises Queenslanders, and positively impacts our environment and the communities we live in.
The Containers for Change Schools program is a school-based program designed to encourage Queensland schools to raise money through the Containers for Change scheme and help educate the next generation on the importance of recycling. If you are collecting containers and would like to donate these to Enoggera State School, please use the NEW code: C11523111 when dropping off at one of the main containers for change deposits.
SPARE UNIFORMS AND UNDERWEAR
It is important that all Year 1 and prep students have spare clothes packed in their bags including underwear. We request this just in case a student has an accident throughout the day. If you have a child who has recently borrowed clothing from the office, could you please urgently return these spares and replacement underwear to the office as we have very low spare clothes. We are also happy to accept donations of new underwear due to these not being returnable – we cannot accept already used and washed underwear.
STOP DROP AND GO ZONE – 285 South Pine Road
The stop, drop and go zone is monitored each morning and each afternoon by a staff member. The correct procedure for this area is to drive up to the gate where the staff member is standing who will assist the safety of your student/s out of the car and on to the school grounds. Please do not stop half way and try and help your student out of the car at the first gate closest to the OSHC and Administration. If you do stop at the first gate, this causes a ripple effect in cars backing up and blocking the school entry and affecting the school crossing. Please follow the directions of the staff member to ensure the smooth transition of cars during these busy times.
Brisbane City Council has been advised of illegal street parking in the area and people not following the stop drop and go sign rules. Vehicles must not be left in this area at any time. If you require additional time to unload your student/s in the morning please ensure you’re a parking in a street park and walking up to the school. Alternatively, we have a stop drop and go zone located on Laurel Street, which is also monitored daily by a staff member. The same rules apply. Thank you for your understanding with this matter.
RELIGION BOOKS
Invoices were sent out early last week to all families with students who are apart of the Religious Instruction program for 2025. If you don’t believe you have received this and your child is currently enrolled in the program, please let me know as book orders have already been placed. Please ensure your invoice is paid by the due date to ensure your child has the correct resources for the program. Prep students are excluded from this program.
LOST PROPERTY
Just a reminder to parents and students that the school’s lost property is located directly under the administration office outside of the uniform shop.
A big thank you to the parents in the community who have been collecting lost property daily and putting items in this area for students to collect.
MEDICAL DETAILS AND MEDICATION
In preparation for the start of the year we are compiling medication requirements for all students that require daily or emergency medication to be administered by school staff. Please have a good read of the below information if your child requires medication to be administered at school during school hours;
- Does your child need medication during school hours?
If your child needs to take medication at school, please provide the office staff with:
- a completed and signed consent to administer form;
- The medication in its original container; and
- Medical authorisation (e.g. the pharmacy label, or a letter from the doctor, or a completed and signed health action plan).
Please refer to the following information:
The consent to administer medication form can be found here:
The information for parents/carers and health practitioners can be found here:
If you have any queries, please contact the office on 07 3550 1333.
- If my child has to take medication at school, how will the doctor know what paperwork the school needs?
When you next visit your child’s doctor (or other health practitioner), you could give them a copy of the the information for parents/carers and health practitioners. This document explains what advice they need to provide to help the school to safely administer medication to your child.
- Easy medication packaging
If your child takes tablets or capsules each day, you can ask the pharmacist to pack them individually in sachets, blister packs or bubble packs.
This packaging is known as a ‘dose administration aid’ (or DAA) and has the pharmacy label instructions as part of the packaging. When medication is packaged in a DAA it can make it easier for the school to safely store and administer it. Please note: A pill case (e.g., a weekly medication organiser) filled by yourself is not a DAA and is not something the school is approved to use.
- Medication safety at school
If your child requires medication at school, there are some things you can do to help.
- Only provide medication that has been medically authorised.
- Check that the medication hasn’t expired.
- Provide medication in the pharmacy packaging.
- Hand medication to the school in person.
- Collect unused medication in person.
- Provide a pill-cutter if tablets need to be halved or quartered, or arrange for the pharmacist to package the medication using a dose administration aid.
Please disregard this if your child does not require medication whilst at school.
If you believe your child’s medical condition is no longer relevant, or you would like to update the details of your child’s condition and treatment, please advise the office as soon as possible.
For returning students with medication currently kept at school, please keep an eye out for further e-mails regarding collection of potentially expired or soon to be expiring medication.
For new students, please supply the office with the required medication and paperwork as soon as possible as your child’s health is of up most importance to us.
And if you have questions, please contact the administration office on 3550 1333.
Have a wonderful fortnight!

___________________________________________________________________
Welcome back to another year of our incredible Arts program. We are so excited for the ESS students and for what is install for them in 2025.
Firstly, on behalf of the performing arts teachers, thank you to all of the students, families and staff for supporting the arts programs as they continue to grow again in 2025.
What's new in the Arts for 2025? This year we have our new Vocal and Dance Performance Teams as well a brand new Dance Ensemble group for our Grade 1-2 students. Continue reading for more info!
Performance Teams
Our Vocal and Dance Performance teams are brand new in 2025. These teams are for students in Grade 4 - 6 who are wishing to challenge and push themselves in Dance and/or Vocal and who would also like further opportunities to perform. The teams will perform at various eisteddfods, competitions and community events throughout the year, therefore their commitment and dedication to these teams are crucial.
Students will need to audition for the teams which is happening in Week 2. Please see the below times:
Auditions for Performance Team
Vocal - Wednesday morning EPAC 7:50 arrival 8:00am start
Dance - Thursday morning EPAC 7:50 arrival 8:00am start
Please note: students can audition and be a part of both teams. Students who are successful in Performance Team cannot participate in the other Dance Ensembles or Choirs. Students who are unsuccessful will have the opportunity to sign up for school based choir and/or sign up/audition for the school based Dance Ensembles.
An email has been sent home to our Grade 4 -6 students however if you would like some more information please contact Miss Dunstan or Mrs Rees.
Dance Ensembles
Our Dance Ensembles are enrichment programs that not only compliments but extends students beyond what they are learning in their Dance Curriculum lessons. Students learn stylised dance technique and routines in preparation for school based performances at the Winter Soiree and Arts on Stage.
To belong in a Dance Ensemble students will need to audition. Auditions will be held in Week 3 at the following times:
Auditions for Dance Ensembles
Red Dance (Grade 4 - 6) - Monday 8am (Week 3)
Green Dance (Grade 3 - 4) - Wednesday second break (Week 3)
Purple Dance (Grade 1 - 2) - Friday first break (Week 3)
Boys Crew (Grade 3 - 6) - Monday first break (Week 3)
Our ensemble groups are based on not only year level but will be based on ability and experience. Students will sign up and audition and then will be invited into the appropriate group according to their skill level and experience. Please note numbers in each dance group is capped due to safety.
For our Grade 1 - 2 students, if you believe your child is suited for this please email Miss Dunstan or sign up on the EPAC door. There is no expectation that all students will be involved as we understand not every student will be comfortable in front of an audience on a stage, however if you child is comfortable and commited to attending weekly rehearsals this is a perfect program for them.
If you would like some more information please contact Miss Dunstan.
Choir
This year we will be offering all students the opportunity to join the Senior Choir (4-6) and Junior Choir (1-3) as in previous years. This ensemble experience gives students an opportunity to learn about self-discipline, social skills, teamwork, commitment, performing skills, singing in unison and in harmony as well as discovering how to use their voices to communicate stories through song. Students will have the opportunity to perform at the Winter Soiree, Arts on Stage and other events. For more information and to sign up, come down to EPAC and sign up and collect a letter from Mrs Rees at our first rehearsal.
Junior Choir - Week 5, Thursday, February 27th during First Break in the Music Room
Senior Choir - Week 5, Friday, February 28th at 8am in EPAC
If you would like some more information please contact Mrs Rees.
Recorder Club
Recorder club is back on this year for Grade 1 - 6 students!
Recorder club will be on Fridays during first break and will start in Week 5 Friday 28th February. If you're interested, please sign up on the EPAC door.
If you would like some more information please contact Mrs Rees.

Robotics Clubs began this week - Tuesdays and Thursdays at second lunch. All students in Years 2-6 are invited.
Coding Club is held on Wednesdays at second break. Students in Years 1-6 are invited. Note this club is about preparing for coding competitions, not building Minecraft Worlds. Minecraft will be permitted sometime later in the year.
The first competition is called the State of Origin “Pong Challenge” to win a PC. This will be a fun way to build our coding skills at lunchtimes.

Welcome to 2025.
This year will be a great year in sport and I’m looking forward to working with the ESS community on delivering some great sporting achievements.
Email will certainly be the preferred method of communication – aawoo0@eq.edu.au so please ask me anything sports related, and I will endeavour to answer your questions or find out the answers from the relevant group.
City District:
ESS sits within the zone of City District and throughout the year there will be many sport trials to make the city team and compete at the Metro North trials. City trials are for 10, 11 and 12 year old’s. Most trials have a limit of 5 students attending from the school so a school selection process may be required before students are invited to attend. The teams are multi aged and all sports have a requirement that nominating students are playing the sport at a high level for a club for at least a year. Theses trials are not a come and try event, it is a competitive selection process and there are payments required for all trials.
More information can be found on the City District home page: https://metnorthschoolsport.eq.edu.au/district-sport/our-districts/city
UPCOMMING TRIALS
There are a number of upcoming trials this term.
Netball, Touch football, AFL, Tennis, Rugby League, Hockey, Soccer and Rugby Union.
I have asked the students who are interested to self-nominate for these sports, however if you know your child plays one of these sport at a highly competitive level, please let me know and I can add them to the list to receive more information.
Please note, that we can only select 5 students per activity, so like with soccer there will be some disappointed students, however I will always endeavour to make the best selections on behalf of ESS.
Class Swimming:
Swimming will start this week and run until the Term 1 break.
Thank you to all of our parents and carers who have nominated to volunteer with some of our younger classes.
Please make sure you send your student with their named swimming gear on their designated day. We will always consider a number of factors when deciding whether or not swimming is safe. We will swim during rain if it is safe to do so which is why it is so important to always send their gear.
Following are the days when your students are swimming.
- Tuesday – 1B, Prep C, 5/6 C, 3B, 2C
- Wednesdays – 3C, 1A, 5/6 B, 1C, 2A
- Thursdays – 2B, 4B, 5/6 A, 4A, 3A
- Fridays – Prep B, Prep A
If there are any parents able to help out with classes from Prep to year 2 – please let me know – any additional support in the pool is very welcome.
Students Unable to Swim due to illness – if your child is unable to swim on any particular week, please send a note to school with your child or email their HPE teacher.
Email contacts:
- Mr Andrew Woodrick – aawoo0@eq.edu.au
Kilometre Club:
Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings we will have the Kilometre Club. This is a way for our students to start their practice for the cross country at the end of the term.
If it is too hot and humid (as is often the case) we will just walk around the oval on the selected mornings.
Weather permitting – students from Year 2 to Year 6 are welcome to come down to the oval between 8.30 and 8.45am on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings to do some running training with Mr Woodrick.
Prep and Year 1 will get some running (cross country) practice in their extra 30min of movement PE time this term.
Students are to remain in their normal waiting place under the buildings until collected by Mr Woodrick or other supporting staff member.

Requests for Information - Student Support Team
SUCCESS SUCCESS SUCCESS
At Enoggera State School we have three SUCCESS teachers – Lauren Cohen (previously Miceli), Belinda Paton and Donagh McKenzie. Success teachers maximise and support student learning, inclusion and engagement by working with students and class teachers to provide educational adjustments in class to support access to the curriculum alongside their peers. Parents will be advised in writing of any specialised support programs which require withdrawal from the classroom that are offered to small groups of students, such as social emotional learning groups for eg. girls group/boys group.
This year Prep, Year 1, Year 2 and 4A are supported by Belinda Paton. Year 3 and 4B are supported by Lauren Cohen and Year 5/6 is supported by Donagh McKenzie.
We understand that a number of our students may see allied health professionals and external providers such as a Paediatrician, an Occupational Therapist, a Speech Language Pathologist, a Physiotherapist and/or counsellor etc. The Department of Education requires consent, in writing, before we can liaise with or disclose any personal information about a student. This includes requests for assessments to be completed or support letters for paediatrician appointments.
Please be mindful that all requests for information/assessments must be submitted to The Student Support Team by email (lmmec0@eq.edu.au) two weeks before the information is required to allow for processing and liaising time.
