Dear Parent and Caregivers,
150th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONSWow! Wasn’t it a fantastic day! There were so many positive stories, great feedback and smiling faces from the event on Saturday, which have continued on this week both in person and via our Facebook site and the past students’ group.
A big thank you to our amazing P and C Association under the direction of President, Renee Coyne and Vice-President, Belinda Dow, and all of the members and volunteers who got behind them to run the day. A special thank you to Belinda who was the key organiser of the celebration. She did a fantastic job and should be most proud of what they achieved given the trying circumstances leading up to the day due to COVID and having to re-organise everything for a second time after the first cancellation.
Our sincere thanks also to the Past Students and Staff group under the guidance of Doug Appleton and Dawn Franzemann who have liaised with the P and C tirelessly since 2019 to make the 150th a special event for our school community.
Special thanks also to our staff who chipped in on the day to help out where needed. Thank you to our Arts staff, Mrs Wilcox, Mrs Hopper and Mrs Moore who worked hard preparing and rehearsing their groups in readiness for the big day. It was wonderful to see all of our groups perform after such a long absence due to COVID restrictions.
A big thank you also the Mr Roxburgh and Chappy Sarah who were MCs on the day. They did a great job keeping things moving along on the day in an entertaining fashion. Thank you also to Mrs Burrows who supported the day by assisting where required and photographing and posting the updates throughout the day.
All in all, everyone can be proud of what we achieved as I have had many positive comments and congratulations, particularly from our Assistant Regional Director, Mr Rob Van den Heuvel who commented on the great vibe to the day and that our performances were excellent and well-polished. He thought the day was well organised and was amazed with the depth of the historical memorabilia and information on display.

ARD VISIT
We were lucky last week to have our Assistant Regional Director in our school for the formal 150th Ceremony at school on Thursday and then he was able to stay on to meet with the leadership team and to visit classrooms to check in on how they are going with the Australian Curriculum this semester. His visits were to Prep A and also 3B this time where he talked to students and the teachers around their current English units of work. We look forward to his next visit to follow up on the work around supporting our students to move into higher grades on their assessment tasks in English this semester. I will be attending a School Leaders Day on Monday where this will also be some of the focus of the work.
ARBOR DAY PLANTING
It was lovely to see our classes that were here in the last week of term all out planting trees donated by the Brisbane City Council for Arbor Day. A big shout out to Mrs Karen Kent who has been working closely with the industrious environmental students at break times around the recycling and planting.
Already this week, they have taken the left over succulents from the 150th to fill some spaces in our remembrance garden at the front of the school. Well done team!

CAMPS
Thank you to staff who attended our Yr 6 camp before the holidays and also our Year 5 camp last week for the great work in organising and supervising our students whilst away. I am happy to announce that both camps went of brilliantly with all students having a great time thanks to the excellent organisation. Thanks to Mr Roxburgh, Mr Woodrick, Mrs O’Malley and Mrs Wilcox for their work with the Yr 6 camp and also to Mr Chinn, Chappy Sarah and Ms Kerr for their great work with the Yr 5 camp. Thank you also to Mrs Burrows who supported the organisation for both camps and managed a visit to the Yr 6 venue along with myself, before the holidays.
WAKAKIRRI COMPETITION
It finally looks like all of the hard work this year and last year into the Wakakirri story/dance production will finally come to fruition with final rehearsals on Sunday and the trip to the Logan Entertainment Centre on Monday to compete. A big thank you to Mrs Wilcox for all of her hard work and the staff who have supported her with sets, supervision, costumes, make up, ticket sales and finances etc. Thank you also to the families who have offered support for the rehearsal and at the event on Monday and also to those who have worked on costumes etc . We can’t wait to finally see our talented students on stage performing. What a wonderful way to finish off this program for this year. Well done to all involved!
STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Staff have been liaising around our student leadership processes and refining our processes for selection of the 2022 student leaders. Next year we will add a student council to the team with a dedicated position for a Student Council Chairperson and also class Student Council Representatives. The position of Student Council Chairperson will be like a Vice-Captain position which we have not got currently with the clear focus of running the student council with in the school.
We have also added a criteria card to the process for students to get signed off as part of their written application for a position. Mrs Burrows and myself will be meeting with the a Yr 5 students shortly to go through the process and we will be holding a series of workshops with the students to ensure they are well prepared in what student leadership involves and how to prepare their written application and if needed, speeches.
The positions available for 2022 will therefore be: 2 School Captains, 1 Student Council Chairperson, 2 House Captains for Banksia and Waratah, 2 Arts Captains, 1 Student Council Class Representative for each Yr 3-6 class.
We will announce the successful candidates for all except the class representatives at the final Principal’s Assembly of the year and we will hold a formal induction ceremony in Week 3 of next year.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
This week I have had the pleasure of being on the Stop and Go Duty on Laurel Street. It has been great to see that parents and carers are remaining in their cars in this designated pick up spot and are moving forward in the line while waiting for their children to arrive. This keeps the flow of traffic moving and our children safe during this busy time after school.
A reminder that we have a very active School Facebook page. Nearly every day there are new posts sharing the exciting events happening in our school. If you are not seeing our posts on your newsfeed make sure that you interact with our page by commenting or liking posts to encourage it to appear more regularly on your newsfeed! This is just one of the many ways to find out about things happening at Enoggera. Each fortnight, a school newsletter is electronically sent out to parents and our Website is in the process of being updated as well. Please ensure that you are reading communication from the school regularly so you don’t miss any events!
As we are now nearly half way into October, the weather is rapidly changing. The days are definitely getting hotter and brighter as summer sneaks up on us! Please ensure that your children are bringing a water bottle and school hat to school every day. It is important for children to remain hydrated especially after running around in the heat during break times.
Year 5 and 6 students have been attending Sport Gala Days on Friday in Week 1, 2 and 3. The students are participating in Cricket or Touch Football for the day competing against team from other local schools. Our students are to be commended for their sportsmanship and outstanding behaviour at the recent Gala Days.
Term Four Swimming Lessons have begun for our Year 2,3 and 4. Prep, Year 1 and Year 5 ,6 will also start swimming from Week 4 once Gala Days and Health lessons are concluded. Notes have been sent home with the details of the days and times the students are participating in their swimming lessons. Please ensure you email your class teacher if you are unsure of your child’s details.
Day for Daniel – The public holiday is coming up on Friday October 29, so we are supporting Day for Daniel on Thursday 28th October with a Mr Roxburgh ESS Special Radio Show at first break.
Students are invited to wear a red t-shirt with their school shorts and some red accessories and to meet on the soft fall at 11:00am to listen to important messages about safety and enjoy some music as we ‘Dance for Daniel’.
Students are encouraged to bring a gold coin to donate to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
World Teachers’ Day is also celebrated on Friday October 29th so we will recognise this day on Monday 1st November. This is an opportunity for the school community to recognise the wonderful job our teachers do in our school every day. Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teachers play in the lives of children and students, their families, and communities. How will your family say thank you to their teachers on World Teachers’ Day? A simple thank you note, drawing or card would make your teacher’s day!

Year 1 has jumped back into Term 4 and is having fun learning all about Procedure Writing.
Through following and sequencing written procedures, we are discovering that they can go very wrong when they are not written in a clear way. The children are learning how to use verbs to discribe exactly how to complete a procedure method.
They are looking forward to getting creative through designing a precedure for a disgusting sandwich! We wonder what sort of disgusting ingredients will be chosen?
We look forward to sharing our creations with you in the near future.
Year 1 Team
Thank you to all of our incredible Arts students who performed at the Family Fun Day/150th Celebrations. It was a very hot day and they all did incredibly well to share their extra-curricular studies with the community. Thank you to the P&C for organising such a fun and successful celebration!

150 Anniversary Family Fun Day – Thank You!
Thank you all for supporting the 150th Anniversary Family Fun Day! Everyone, past and present students had a wonderful time. A current teacher summed it up well – ‘In these strange times of Covid, my heart felt so full to see our Big Little school bustling and full of fun and joy again’. So many of us haven’t seen each other for a long time, so refreshing to see so many reunions and memories being created. With over 120 past students and teachers attending the celebration shows Enoggera State School has left so many students with happy and treasured memories of their time at the school. We are a very lucky school to have such talented and amazing students, teachers, families and school community!
Commemorative Pins
A limited number of Commemorative Pins are available on QKR! App, under School Uniform Shop. The pins are a great memory of the school’s 150th Anniversary. You will have a choice of a stick pin or a clasp backing. They are $10 and can be picked up from the Uniform Shop on a Tuesday morning or picked up from the school office once ordered on QKR! App.
Uniform Shop
We are still seeking a Coordinator to take over the Uniform Shop in 2022. We have had a couple of lovely parents volunteer to help out at the Uniform Shop but we need a Coordinator to mainly manage uniform stock; liaise with the Uniform supplier; and open the Uniform Shop on Tuesday morning for 45 mins. The role will be supported by the Operations Manager and the current Coordinator, Amanda, will be available to transfer knowledge. If you are interested and available to be a Uniform Shop Co-ordinator please contact the P & C via opsmanager@esspandc.com.au
String Instrumental parents please start to consider if your child requires a Music Shirt next year as they need to be ordered and take time to be made. The Uniform Shop only has a small supply available. If your child is current in the Beginner / Junior Ensemble they will require a Music Shirt next year. Please visit the Uniform Shop if you will be requiring a shirt.
Mango Drive 2021
Brought back by huge demand the Mango Drive is back this year! To support our North Queensland farmers purchase 4.5 tray(s) of Kensington Pride (Bowen Special) Mangoes by 31 October for delivery in early December.
From Friday, 15 October, you will be able to purchase the trays for $21 via QKR! App. Order as many trays as you like.
Due to a warmer winter than usual this year’s crop is resulting in a 60% - 70% reduction in the usual mango crop hence the smaller tray (4.5 kg) at a lower cost instead of the 7 kg tray sold last year. The mangoes are coming directly from the farm to you. Your mangoes aren’t being held for long periods in storage or ripening rooms.
Keep an eye on the P & C Facebook page for the launch on Friday!
Tuckshop
We are currently planning the Wednesday Specials menu so keep your eye on our Facebook page.
We are still seeking volunteers to assist in the Tuckshop for less than 3 hours on a Wednesday or Friday. If you are looking to have some fun and meet other parents / grandparents the Tuck Inn is the place to be, it is a friendly environment! Please contact the P & C via opsmanager@esspandc.com.au
Containers for Change
Continue to fill up those Containers for Change bins at school (purple bins) with suitable containers for recycling. To check if your containers are eligible, check the back of the container for the 10c symbol (lids must also be removed). You can visit the depot deposit your containers and contribute to the ESS scheme, our school scheme ID is C10051863
