Research has shown that students who are involved in The Arts have higher levels of school motivation, engagement in class, self-esteem, and life satisfaction as well as more positive academic and personal wellbeing outcomes. Thanks to our dedicated staff, our students are lucky to be able to participate in many extra curricula programs, as showcased at The Arts on Stage on Friday night. From Instrumental Music to drama, singing, recorder playing and drumming, there was something for everyone!
Our Book Fair was also a great success, with nearly $1500 raised to purchase new books for our library. Thank you to those who supported the Fair.

Our staff versus student’s netball match today was a tight competition however the staff were victorious in the end. Excellent sportsmanship was shown all round and a great game had by all.

Reading and Writing in 2019
As this is my last newsletter item for 2019 I thought it would be fitting to reflect on some of the learning successes achieved at Enoggera this year. I am very proud of the contributions that staff, students and parents have made in improving students’ attitudes and capabilities in literacy this year. Students’ reading levels continued to grow and improve through fluency, accuracy, comprehension and vocabulary development. Mrs Butler and I took great delight in seeing the enthusiasm and commitment students had in exploring new topics and ideas as part of reading groups. The continued use of data collection and analysis to inform teaching and learning enriched teaching and learning opportunities for all students. We, as a staff, were very excited to see fantastic NAPLAN results in both Year 3 and Year 5 Reading with 100% of all students being above the National Minimum Standard in reading.
Writing became an explicit focus in 2019 and we will continue to embed and refine The Teaching of Writing in our 2020 – 2023 School Improvement Agenda. As a school we are committed to providing clear and articulate feedback in the area of writing through class “Bump It Up Charts”. These in association with individual, small group and whole class feedback ensured that students were provided with multiple learning opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and use feedback to improve their work. NAPLAN showed 83% of Year 3 students were in the upper two bands which is an amazing result. Our Year 5 student results were similar to like schools and the nation.
I look forward to working with you all in 2020 as we continue to on this wonderful learning journey.

Year 1
(1A & P/1A)
Year One have been learning about procedural texts in literacy. We have learnt how to write lists of ingredients and materials as well as how to write a detailed method. Our favourite procedures included making our own version of a wombat stew and a disgusting sandwich!
P1/A were very fortunate to have the help of the year 5/6 students to create their own PPT of their disgusting sandwich.

Thank you so much to our fantastic ESS community for supporting our Book Fair. Once again it was a huge success and because of your support we will be able to purchase over $1400 of new resources for our library.

Thank you also to the wonderful staff and students who helped me. I couldn’t have done it without you and it definitely wouldn’t have been the success it was without your amazing help.
Congratulations to Lily A, Jarvis S, Cash F and Gemma W. on winning book vouchers to use at the Book Fair.
Also, a reminder that as the end of the year is fast approaching and we still have a LOT of books that are overdue and some that have been overdue from early in the year. Can you please help us by looking in bags, chair bags, desks, under beds etc and return any overdue books as soon as possible. Thanks for your assistance.
And always remember, reading may unlock your SECRET POWER!!
Happy Reading

MULTI-PURPOURSE ROOF UPDATE
Calling those who work for companies that have Community Sponsorship or Grant Programs!!
A lot of larger organisations have community sponsorships or grants available to certain community or non-profit projects. We have recently been successful in receiving a grant through Telstra that a parent applied for on behalf of the school. If you are able to identify that this might available through your organisation, we would love to assist you in applying for a sponsorship or grant to assist with this project.
A SSS Application was submitted to EQ in November to contribute to the funding for the project. Thank you to the team of parents involved in getting this application ready, as well as Mrs Butler and the administration staff for their ongoing assistance and commitment to this project.
The P&C has already committed $71,200 to the project with an overall fundraising goal of $120,000 ahead of an expected construction start date of end 2020. You can help us get to our goal more quickly by making a tax deductible donation to our Building Fund via www.giveit.com.au or by letting us know of any companies or businesses which may be interested in sponsoring our project.
