Dear Parent and Caregivers,
BUILDING UPDATE
Isn’t the new building looking fantastic now the scaffolding has come down? The cladding matches in beautifully with the rest of the school and inside is really coming ahead with interior painting almost complete. Our furniture is still on track for the 30th November- though handover is unlikely to happen until well after that date due to the ICT works being done over the holidays. In the last newsletter, I spoke about the tele-communication centre of network being moved to the new building, which required the cabling from the street to be moved near the front car park. This meant possible disruptions to the Sth Pine Rd ‘Stop Drop and Go’ and parking. Now, a new plan has been created now which means the cabling will run along our fence line to the carpark, requiring less disruption to the car park- which is great news. The new lines will run through between the library and D Block to the new building. Work on this project will commence tomorrow so we will lose our D Block to Library access again, which means we will be going the long way around the front of the library for the foreseeable future.
MULTI-PURPOSE ROOF PROJECT
We have had official confirmation of the maximum SSS (School Subsidy Scheme) funding of $500,000 being confirmed for the roof project and so the project is definitely going ahead next year. We now wait for final DoE and Procurement processes to be conducted before we get a timeframe for the project. But it certainly is an exciting and massive step forward with a project that at times I feared may not ever happen due to the price rises.
WORLD TEACHER’S DAY
Last Monday we celebrated World Teacher’s Day at Enoggera State School with a morning tea for our Teachers. The theme this year was “Hats off to Teachers” which was the focus of the many cards and messages our students created for their teachers. We are very fortunate at Enoggera State School to have wonderfully experienced and dedicated Teachers and we appreciate the great work they do with our students every single day.
DAY FOR DANIEL
Again this year we acknowledged the Day for Daniel by wearing red clothes and hearing important messages on the day about personal safety. Our students bought in a gold coin for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation and we are pleased to announce that we raised $165 on that day.
REMEMBRANCE DAY
Remembrance Day is one of the most important days on our commemorative calendar. It's a day when we acknowledge those who died while serving in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Remembrance Day is held on 11 November each year. This is the anniversary of the Armistice that ended fighting with Germany in World War I. People in Australia, and many other countries, observe 1 minute's silence at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month because that's when the Armistice came into effect. It's a time to honour our service personnel who died in service of Australia.
We will be observing a minutes silence on Friday for Remembrance Day and our Defence students will lay a wreath at the front of the school in our memorial garden, with myself to commemorate this special day.
PREP TRANSITION
Last week we welcomed most of our enrolled 2023 Prep students and their families to our school. Whilst the Preps were engaged in classroom activities with the current Prep Teachers, the parents were provided an information session in EPAC covering whole school processes and routines and the Prep Curriculum programs. Next week we will host the 2nd Prep Transition morning and will provide another session for parents in EPAC with our Guidance Officer, Speech Language Pathologist and Support Staff to focus in on the transition to Prep and supports available. The P and C will provide morning tea for the parents outside EPAC before the new Preps return from class. The uniform shop will also be open on the morning following the session.
Whilst the Prep transition morning is on, we are using this time to focus on our Prep to Yr 1 transition for 2023 in the Library as this is also a big change for these students.
A reminder that if you have a Prep student to enrol for next year please contact the office and book an enrolment interview prior to the next transition mornings.
ROLL UP AFTERNOONS
Again, this year we will conduct a roll up afternoon in the last week of school for all students to hopefully meet and spend time with their new teacher and class mates in their new space for next year. As transitions are an important step in preparing students for the new school year we place high importance on offering these opportunities to our students and hope that this process helps to relieve anxiety over the unknown of the new school year and to build some excitement about the year to come. Class placements for 2023 will also be sent home in the last week of school following the roll up afternoons.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
Deputy Principal Pen
We have now past the half way point of the term, and the end of the school year is fast approaching! The weather is finally warming up and students are enjoying the warmer water in the pool! It won’t be long before we are cheering on our swimmers at the Junior and Senior Swimming Carnivals!
I was recently given the opportunity to attend the Positive Schools Conference and listen to a range of excellent presenters talk about developing a community of wellbeing; the power of resilience; equity at the heart of wellbeing; on-line risks for young people; and mental health and the value of teaching students about their brain. This learning will help us to continue to support our staff and students and implement programs to promote wellbeing in our school community.
Finally, we recently celebrated World Teachers’ Day. I would personally like to acknowledge the outstanding work of the teachers at our school, who everyday make a difference to the lives of the children that they teach. Thank you to the parents and carers for entrusting your children into the care of amazing teachers!
Student Leaders 2023
Over the last couple of weeks, Year 5 students have continued to attend the Student Leaders Workshops with Mrs Robinson and myself. Students have learnt about the concept of leadership; and the 4Cs of leadership – consistency, collaboration, citizenship and communication. They will conclude the sessions with information on how to write and deliver their speech. Applications are due at the office by 3pm on Thursday 17th November with shortlisting occurring with a panel of teachers and administration after school. We wish all the applicants the best of luck!
Pillar Practise
This fortnight, our Pillar Practice has moved to the Pillar of Relationships with a focus on respect for others. Teachers will be reminding students about the different ways they can show respect for all staff and students in our school with some reminders about being kind, polite, calm, helpful, honest, punctual, attentive and positive. As we all become more tired towards the end of the year, it is a good time to remind students of our Relationships Pillar to ensure we continue to show respect to others.
Student must be commended for the vast improvement in using their ‘walking feet’ around our school as a result of the Safety Pillar Practice and the introduction of Walking Feet Gotchas. Many students have been selected from the Gotcha Box to receive their special ‘walking feet’ keyring in recognition of their efforts.
A reminder that a frequent check-in of our Facebook page, will keep you up to date with the many things happening such as poppies being sold for Remembrance Day and the opening of the Book Fair this Friday! Term Four is a very busy term and to help families to plan ahead, all upcoming events are located in the events tab down the side of our newsfeed. Please take a moment to go through the events and add them to your diary to allow plenty of time to prepare your schedule so you don’t miss out on anything! Remember also, that the more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. Messages and questions on our Facebook page can be overlooked, so this is not the quickest and most reliable way of getting clarification around school events. It is always best to ring the office or email the class teacher.
Student Council Fundraising
This term, the Student Council will be running two meal deals. The first “Sub and Drink’ meal deal has closed on line and will be delivered tomorrow! Meal deals will be delivered to students in their classrooms by 11am.

The second meal deal with go live after the first one to avoid confusion. It will be held on Thursday 24th November. This will be a Pizza and drink meal deal!
Thank you for your ongoing support of the Student Council as they fundraise for their Legacy Gift to the school.
Morning Routines
A friendly reminder that under C Block (Year 2A and Prep B) is out of bounds before school for children and adults. All students are to be waiting under D Block before school unless they are with a parent. Students in the care of their own parent are required to wait under E Block. For duty of care, all other areas are out of bounds as they are not supervised before school. When students are waiting with parents, it is important that are expected to remain seated and to not run around playing, to keep our ‘before school expectations’ consistent for all students. Thanks for your assistance with our morning routines.

Semester 2 Reporting
Curriculum Reporting Update
Staff have been very busy reviewing and refining our reporting processes this semester. In consultation with staff the Semester 2 2022 Report Card will provide a semester learning statement in all reportable curriculum areas contextualising the knowledge and skills students have learnt. Each learning area will have comments informing of your child’s demonstrated capacity of learning for each area or strand of learning area.
Behaviour and Effort Reporting Information
Effort in each learning area is assessed on a five – point scale using a rubric. In this way there is consistency of ratings given through the various descriptors.
Behaviour is rated also using a five – point scale rubric that outlines various observable behaviours by students across the semester in areas including the School Pillars, social skills, leadership, respect, inclusivity and conflict resolution to name a few. The rubric was developed in consultation with staff through the Student Behaviour Committee to guide all teachers to assess behaviour consistently across subject areas and year levels.
This week, the Grade 1 students viited Pine Rivers Heritage Village. The first activity the students participated in was learning about the sort of games children played in the 1950. Hoola hoops and colours - a colours was selected and the student had to jump onto the nominated colour.
The second activity was going to school in the 1950's. The children wrote their names on slate boards with a slate pencil which would not work on paper. That confused the children no end. The children also learned how class worksheets were created. The gel mix absorbed carbon paper and could then be transferred back onto blank paper.
The bus trip to the village was filled with energy. The students were very excited and loved identifying key features that would direct them to their homes. Some children even said, "My Mum shops in there".
A fun filled week for Grade 1- a big thank you to the parent helpers!
Until next time,
Mrs Kent and Mrs Boone.
