Dear Parent and Caregivers,
PERFORMING ARTS
Wasn’t ‘Arts on Stage’ this year fantastic? Our Performing Arts groups performed brilliantly with a large number of students participating - including new groups which were offered again this year, including Junior Dance.
The Performing Arts program at ESS is flourishing thanks to our tremendous staff- Miss Georgia Dunstan (Dance/Drama Teacher), Mrs Rebecca Rees (Classroom Music Teacher) and Mrs Ellen Harle (Instrumental Music-Strings Teacher), who have worked co-operatively with the support of the Arts Committee, school staff and their wonderful student Art Captains, who did an outstanding job of hosting the evening.
We look forward to further expansion next year as we introduce the band program of wind and percussion instruments as part of the DoE Instrumental Music program. We are still waiting to hear who our new teacher for this program will be in 2024, so that we can commence the recruitment for next year's program. We will be sending out some expressions of interest again to families who would like to be in the program for 2024. This program will be offered to students in Year 4/5/6.
On another note, we have heard about the regional staffing of the Strings program here for next year and unfortunately, Mrs Ellen Harle has been relocated to stay within one Instrumental Music cluster of schools, so she will no longer be travelling to ESS next year. We thank her very much for her work here over the past two years and wish her all the best at her other schools.
We have had confirmation that Yvonne Moore, who was here prior to Mrs Harle has been relocated back to ESS for 2024. This is very good news as Yvonne is an excellent Strings teacher. Yvonne knows the program at this school and some of the students, so she will be able to hit the ground running in 2024. As the Instrumental Music program is a regionally funded program, we do not have a say in the staffing of the program, as they move staff around regularly to fill all of the fractions at different schools and make the puzzle fit. Whilst we are always feeding back the need for consistency in our schools sometimes this is not possible.
LEARNING CURVE FORTNIGHTLY FOCUS
Each week as part of our Learning Curve wellbeing program we focus on a category and wellbeing skill builder. This week we are working from the ‘Engagement and Mindfulness’ category and the wellbeing skill builder is around ‘Approaches to Cope’. On assembly and following up during the week we teach students the Why, How and Do for this focus as below:
WHY: For students to learn how to use a range of coping strategies that work for them when they notice they are becoming anxious.
HOW: Different approaches work differently for different people. You need to try several to discover ones that work for you. Some to try include: brisk exercising, being with nature, sharing with your family, doing breathing exercises, colouring in, mindfulness activities, having a break from social media, playing and having fun with friends or pets.
DO: What is the approach to cope with anxious feelings that works best for you to feel calm again?
This topic is very pertinent at this time of the year for everyone here at school and I am sure at home as well. As the year comes to a close and we complete final assessments and reporting along with all of the other activities and events closing up for the year, we look forward to the new school year and what that holds.
SHORTLISTED SCHOOL CAPTAIN NOMINEES
Over recent weeks our Year 5 students have been undertaking the Student Leadership process for 2024. They have nominated themselves for the leadership positions and have been completing a process to demonstrate they meet the required criteria to be a student leader at ESS. The next part of the process was to look at those students who nominated themselves for School Captain and to shortlists these students. They will now have the opportunity to give a speech to staff and students on Friday afternoon in EPAC at 2pm before the students in Year 3, 4 and 5 and staff get to vote for the School Captain positions. After that a panel of selected staff meet to finalise all of the Captain positions for 2024. These will be announced at the final Principal’s Assembly in Week 10 on the Monday morning in front of the whole school as we conduct a ceremonial change over of positions from this years Captains to next years. Much congratulations to our 2024 shortlisted School Captain nominees:
Ivy Atkins, Adelyn Blatchford, Rose Denington, Isabella Hall, Mackenzie Hutch, Hannah Ormiston-Smith, Bronte Scholes, Ivy Smith. We wish them all the best with their speeches on Friday afternoon.
We would also like to congratulate Chelsea and Jarvis our 2023 Captains who have done a fantastic job this year in their various roles and have certainly set the bar high for the 2024 leaders. We wish them all the very best in the future as they both have promising leadership careers ahead of them throughout their lives.
CLASS PREFERENCES 2024
Thank you to those parents who completed a class preference form for 2024 for their students. This opportunity has closed now, as we are well underway in working on draft classes and then placing teachers against the classes. Once staffing is finalised in week 9, class placements will go out with the students in the last week of term at the roll up afternoon activity.
Please keep in mind that whilst we take on board the feedback and requests, of course there is no guarantee that all requests can be actioned, as ultimately, we have to make the best placements conducive to teaching and learning for all students.
2024 ENROLMENTS
After considering our incoming and outgoing enrolments to date we are now looking at predicted enrolments for 2024 at 383 students, which will see us grow again by one class to 16 classes next year. Due to where the numbers are falling for 2024, at this stage we are looking at creating the following classes:
Prep A, Prep B, Prep C
1A, 1B, 1C
2A, 2B + 2C or 2/3A
3A, 3B + 2/3A?
5/6A, 5/6B, 5/6C
Initially, we were hoping to have sufficient numbers to make two Year 5 classes and two Year 6 classes, but recent number predictions will not allow that within our staffing allocations. We are also undecided as to whether we will have three Year 2 classes and two Year 3 classes or two Year 2 classes and two Year 3 classes and a 2/3 composite, as this will be dependent on late enrolments and notifications received up until day 8 next year when final staffing allocations and decisions are made.
In the final newsletter for the year in the last week of school (our roll up day), I will be able to announce which teachers are on which classes to start the new school year. Of course, this is always subject to change up until day 8 of 2024.
2023 YEAR BOOK
A reminder that again this year we are producing a Year Book of the 2023 school year at Enoggera State School. This book is a great memory book of the year and is available to purchase by our families. It includes class pages and pages on all of our school events and activities throughout the year. It also includes a special focus on our graduates.
The book is gifted to our graduating students at the graduation ceremony in the last week of school and will also be distributed to families on Thursday 7th December to families who order and pay for one prior. The cost this year is $30 as it is a little larger than last years book at 90 full colour pages.
If you wish to purchase the year book please complete the order form attached and hand into the office by this Friday the 24th of November. Payment is due by next Friday the 1st of December. We only have 62 copies available for purchase this year. Purchasers will receive their copy before the holidays if your form and payment is made this term. A further order can be placed next year for delivery at the start of school next year, if we meet printing quotas for that price.
GRADUATION
In the last week of school along with the Principal’s Assembly on the Monday morning where we announce the 2024 student Leaders, we are also looking forward to our formal Graduation Ceremony to be held on Thursday morning in EPAC from 9:30am. At this ceremony all of our graduates will be presented with their graduation packs including the 2023 Year Book and we will reflect on the year just gone and also present some special Year 6 awards in the areas of Academic, LOTE, The Arts, Sports and School Spirit. This is followed by morning tea for the graduates and their families. Of course, then our graduates will enjoy a private social function in the evening at the Victoria Park Golf Course.
Also, on that last Thursday, which is break up day, we will do the guard of honour for our leaving Year 6 students. At 2:55pm on that day the whole school gets to farewell our graduates and wish them all the best for the future.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal

Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars including Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. For the remainder of the year, our focus will be on “Finishing Strong”.
We would like to welcome our new Parent Representatives to the School Council, Mr Sam Peart and Mr Tom Schafer. We are very grateful to Mrs Lisa McDonald and Mrs Amanda Kershaw for their time as members of the School Council over the last 2 years. Mrs Sue Griffin, non-teaching representative, has also concluded her time on the School Council and non-teaching staff will be invited to nominate to join the school council next year.
Assembly
As our school has grown in size, so too has the length of our assembly! With assembly sometimes lasting an hour, this is a very long time to expect students to sit and listen especially at the end of the day! So, we have decided to reduce the length of assembly to approximately 30 minutes.
To do this, we are removing some items and condensing others. Assembly will still be an opportunity to present our Student of the Week Certificates, Award Gotcha Prizes, introduce the Learning Curve and Pillar Practice focus, have performances and for our student leaders to give reports.
Parents are invited to join us in the EPAC after 2:15pm. We will begin assembly at approximately 2:20pm which allows time at the end of assembly for senior leaders to pack up the chairs and for students to return to class to get their bags. Thanks for your understanding around shortening assembly time for the benefit of our students.
Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. Click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events.
The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes.
If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.
Please remember to never make comments on the page referencing a child’s name for privacy reasons.
Student Council News
Pizza Day
The student council will be organising a Pizza Party for the class celebration day on Thursday 7th December. Students will need to bring $5 cash in a named envelope to their class teacher by Friday 1st December so that we can place the bulk order for the following week.
Students should also bring their lunch box with additional fruit and snacks for during the day. Pizzas will be delivered to classrooms at approximately 12pm during class party time in middle session.
Uniform Reminder
A reminder that students are required to continue to wear full school uniform for the remainder of the term including class celebration day. This includes black shoes and white socks as part our Dress Code. There has been a noticeable increase in the number of non-black shoes and colourful socks being worn to school. We ask parents to support our school dress code by ensuring their children have the correct shoes and socks at all times.
Roll Up Afternoon
On Wednesday 6th December from 2:00pm to 3:00pm, students will be invited to visit their classroom for 2024. During the afternoon, they will get to meet their new class teacher and their new classmates. If they have a new teacher for 2024, one of our support staff or departing teachers will fill in for the new teacher. The incoming teacher will be invited to send a short video or PowerPoint or video to introduce themselves and students will complete some activities to get to know their new teacher and classmates.
Free Swim
During Week 10, classes will enjoy a 1-hour free swim session with their teacher and Mr Woodrick to celebrate the conclusion of swimming lessons and the end of the school year. Your child’s class teacher will communicate which day your child will need to bring their swimming gear to school.

Book Fair Success
A huge thank you to the Enoggera State School Community for supporting this year’s Book Fair so successfully. Over $7000 worth of books, stationery and posters were purchased over the 4 days of operation. That is a massive effort. Your support will allow us to purchase very valuable resources for our Library to support teachers and students in 2024! For those students waiting for stock to arrive these will be delivered shortly and provided to students in their classrooms.
Issue 8 Book Club
Just a reminder that Issue 8 purchases for Book Club will close on Friday 24th November to ensure delivery prior to school finishing. Thank you to everyone for supporting Book Club this year.

Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Just a reminder that as we move towards the end of the year and the start of the new year – new rules for 2024 will be in place for payment deadlines. Full payment and consent forms must be handed in by their due date. If these deadlines are not met then students will unfortunately miss out. To ensure your student/s do not miss out please keep an eye on the fortnightly newsletter, emails from the admin team and regularly check on QParents.
We appreciate your help with this as the extra pressure on staff to constantly chase consents and payments, is enormous. If you are having financial difficulty, please contact me directly to discuss options.
Swimming consents for 2024 have been emailed out this week to all families, and copies of this are available in the office. Please ensure these consents are handed into classroom teachers before the end of the term, to ensure your student can commence swimming lessons in Term 1.
Orders for purchasing the annual yearbook for 2023 close this Friday the 24th of November! Please ensure you submit the order form prior to Friday the 24th of November to get your copy! Order forms have been emailed out and are also available in the office. An invoice will be raised once you submit your order form. Payment must be recieved by Friday the 1st of December to obtain your copy before the holidays.
Reminder
Online Consents - Parents who have registered for QParents will now have an added tab for online consents. For 2024 we have rolled out using this system for our schools online consent management and state school consent for all students. If you haven't already completed this please ensure you complete these consents by January 22, 2024 to ensure consent's for your student/s is up to date and inline with DOE regulations. If you have any questions about QParents or would like to register please contact administration.
Please advise the administration team if your student/s is planning on leaving at the end of 2023 – this excludes our leaving year 6 students. There is a formal process that needs to be followed to ensure a smooth transition to a new school – the sooner we have this information the quicker we can process this.
If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly on 07 3550 1333 or email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au
Have a great week,

The Year 4 classes have had a very busy Term 4 so far.
Our unit on persuasion in advertising has been a lot of fun. The students have been able to design their own cereal box and will present these this week. Who knew how many sneaky tricks are included on one box of cereal!
In Science this term the Year 4 students have been investigating forces. The students have had a lot of fun playing “60 Second Slam” games and designing their own game to test.
As the end of the year approaches, it is always wonderful to look back at how much progress the students have made in their learning. We wish all of our families a safe and relaxing holiday.

Sky High Gymnastics was founded to help children with disabilities learn gymnastics at their own pace in a fun and safe environment. We're on a mission to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to explore the world of gymnastics in a safe, quiet and one-on-one environment. We foster growth, confidence and well-being whilst encouraging our kids to progress at their own pace. Our mission is to help our kids transition into a neurotypical class with ease by teaching them the foundational skills required. Feel free to check our website to learn more!
Does your child feel overly fearful, anxious, or worried in certain situations?
Many children can feel anxious, fearful, or worried in certain situations. In most situations this is a normal emotion when faced with something threatening. Everyone can feel anxious from time to time. However, some children experience anxiety more intensely or more often than others and it stops them from having fun, going to school, or getting the most out of their life.
Take Action is an evidence-based program for 7- to 12-year-olds experiencing anxiety. Each child session takes approximately 1 hour, and the program runs over 10-12 weeks (either in-person or online). The program also includes six x 1-hour sessions for parents/carers to provide additional education and support on managing children’s anxiety.
All children receive a comprehensive assessment before and after the program, and all child and parent/carer workbooks and materials to practice Take Action skills at home are provided. The project has full ethics approval from the Griffith University Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC: 2023/381).
To find out more information and register to complete an initial assessment over the phone, please email us at cadrp@griffith.edu.au.
