Last Day of Term 3 |
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE
This week the Learning Curve focus is from the ‘Meaning and Purpose ‘category. The wellbeing skill builder is ‘The right thing to do’ for all classes. This topic is about ensuring that you listen to your heart and mind to tell you what the right thing to do is. Even if others are doing something and you feel tempted to join in, if your heart and mind are telling you it’s not right, trust yourself. It takes strength and conviction to stand on your own and follow what you know is right for you. Sometimes, going along with friends just to keep them happy means going against your own values.
These concepts were introduced in the Health lessons with Miss Dunstan this week and will be followed up in classrooms. Our Year 3-6 students continue to track their progress in their Learning Curve diaries. The parent newsletter is attached below.

STAFFING
Our School’s Officer, Reynaldo Delatorre is continuing his gradual return-to-work plan. Mr Ian Lenae is continuing on behind him during this time. Acting HOSES, Belinda Paton is continuing her return-to-work plan.
Mrs Donagh McKenzie (Success Teacher for 5/6) and Mrs Tina Burrows (Deputy Principal) have retuned from their leave. Thank you to Mrs O’Malley who stepped up into the Deputy Principal position and Mrs Jones who stepped up into the HOD-C role during this time. Both Miss Tamara Dowling (5/6C) and Mrs Andrea Moeser have commenced their long service leave for the rest of the term. Mrs Belinda Harris will be on long service leave in the last week of term and Miss Sarah Dionysius will be on leave in the last week of term for her wedding. Our Guidance Officer Leanne Watson will also be on long service leave in the last two weeks of this term also.
STUDENT WELLBEING OFFICER
Unfortunately, Alisha Pearson, our SWO has resigned her position at our school due to family reasons. She finished up in her role last Friday. I have been in touch with our provider-Jabiru and they have found us a new SWO to commence here next term. His name is Dominic Cossens and he is a very experienced SWO who has been working across three schools in the Greater Brisbane area. As he lives close to our school, he is excited for the opportunity to work a little closer to home. He will work here Monday and Friday next term which means that Breakfast Club will move to Friday mornings next term to fit in with the food deliveries. We look forward to him commencing in the role and becoming an integral part of the Student Support Team here at ESS.
A big thank you to the P&C and community for going ahead with the Feed Your Favourite Fella event yesterday to celebrate our Dads and Father’s Day and also to raise money to cover the SWO shortfall in wages for the year. It was a great morning and it was great to have our local member, Tim Mander on the tools handing out the orders.
NEW BUILDING
We were recently advised that we have been successful in securing an additional building for next year due to catchment enrolment growth. We met with the DoE infrastructure team and contractors onsite last week to discuss the new addition.
The new building will be a permanent pre-fabricated building (as below) which will be craned onto the oval between G Block and the Junior playground, so as to minimise further loss of greenspace for play areas.
The building will have a permanent ramp and covered way linking it to the G Block lift well and also a ramp adjoining the stairs to E Block on the other side. The building will face G Block in front of the staff room and sandpit. The new building will include two classrooms, a teacher planning area and breakout space as well as the verandah outside (similar to the other demountable we had on the heritage listed wall). The new block will be named H Block.
Preliminary works and planning have commenced with a date for the installation still to be determined early next term, to allow for it to be moved into prior to the end of the year.

NEW PREP PLAYGROUND
We have also had approval for the new Prep playground to be installed on the grass area in front of the pool. The winning tenderers, Adventure Plus playgrounds are also in early planning with an installation date still to be advised next term. The new playground design is below for your information.
PREP ENROLMENTS
A further reminder that if you know of families who live in our catchment and are planning to come here next year, please remind them to submit their enrolment paperwork as we have already commenced our Prep Enrolment Interviews. Bookings for Prep enrolment interviews are currently open via SOBS. The interviews can be booked at the following link:
https://eq.sobs.com.au/pt3/parent.php?schoolid=70109
The information below demonstrates how to book an interview spot.
Unfortunately, any out-of-catchment enrolments can only be considered after these interviews and in-catchment enrolment numbers are confirmed.
VOCAL PERFORMANCE TEAMS
Our Vocal team attended their final activity for the year which was Singfest for a workshop last week. Our students had a great day at Wavell SHS working on repertoire and technique which they performed in a concert to conclude the program.
Our Junior Strings students have attended their final workshop for this year.
The Music Fest performance is still to occur on 27th October at Iona College.
The focus for our Performing Arts groups now also turns to preparing for Arts on Stage next term in week 8 of the term on the Thursday, 27th November.
STUDENT FREE DAY
A reminder that as per the DoE school calendar the September Student Free Day is coming up on Friday this week on September 5. As our staff have already completed their professional development requirements in twilight PD due to this being a flexible day, our school will be closed on this day. OSHC will operate as per normal SFD on this day.
READER’S CUP TEAM OFF TO STATE FINALS
All the best to our fantastic Reader’s Cup team of Ella Brauer, Zoe Want, Vishnu Ganesh, Brea Green and Lara Grant as they head to the State Finals on Thursday to compete against other Year 5/6 teams from all around the State. They worked so hard in Term 2 to win the Brisbane North competition and have worked extremely hard again this term with new books in preparation for Thursday. Mrs O’Malley and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the team in preparation and wish them all the best for Thursday. Go Team!
2026 MUSICAL
It was great news this week to hear that we got the rights to perform our first choice of musical next year. On assembly on Monday Mrs Rees and Miss Dunstan prepared a flash mob to introduce Madagascar. The whole assembly were in stitches of laughter as they watched the flash mob do their stuff whilst our Arts Captains tried to bring them under control. What a great launch. Mrs Rees and Miss Dunstan will be meeting with student interested in auditioning in the next week or so to provide audition packs ready for auditions for lead roles to happen early next term. The ensemble groups will come on board early next year as the musical comes together.
SPELL-A-THON FUNDRAISING PRIZES
On assembly on Monday, we were able to award the fundraising prizes for the recent Spell-a-thon. Congratulations to the year level highest fundraisers, Highest Fundraiser in the whole school who received certificates and gift cards as well as the highest-class fundraiser, who won a pizza and popper party for their class. We also presented random book prize draws to one student from each class who raised some money toward the Spell-a-thon. Our Student Council raised a massive $14 912 this year which is more than last year. They will now move into the planning stage of what they want to do with the money to improve the school for the students. The fundraiser winners were:

The last part of the program is the Annual Spelling Bee Competition. Classes have already chosen their best speller and next week Mrs Burrows and I will head to classes to find the best speller in each year level who will compete at the final Spelling Bee championship on the second last day of Term, Thursday September 18. Our Spelling Bee winner will have their name engraved on the perpetual trophy in the office and will also receive a smaller trophy to keep. Good luck to our year level winners!
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal

Back to School
I am so pleased to be back at work after a month off to recover from my recent surgery. Thank you to all the members of the community who have welcomed me back and asked how I am feeling. I am excited to be back for the last three weeks of the term and to see the lovely, smiling faces of all the students!
Dress Code and Lost Property
There are still numerous students attending school not wearing the correct school shoes and socks. Students are not permitted to wear coloured shoes to school – the dress code specifies black shoes and white socks. The laces on black school shoes should also be black please. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
If your children have misplaced items of clothing, the lost property is located under A Block near the uniform shop. Please remember to label all your child’s clothing to make it easier to locate it when it is lost.
Pillar Practice
This fortnight, our Pillar Practice is focussed on being in the right place at the right time.
- Classroom – right place for learning, not wandering around or leaving the classroom without permission
- Lunchtime – sitting on benches in eating area, waiting to be dismissed, play in correct areas
- Transitions – Line up when the bell goes, using the toilet during break times.
All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school.
The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.

STUDENT COUNCIL
Please remember to place your order for the Subway Meal Deal being held on Tuesday 16th September at 11am.
The next Student Council meeting will be held next week on Friday 12th of September to discuss plans for the Student Council events in Term 4.
Next term, Mrs Burrows will be taking the members of the Student Council and the Year 6 Captains on a special excursion to celebrate their contributions to the school throughout the year. More information will be provided early next term to the students.
Thank you for your support of the Student Council.
Front Garden
Just a friendly reminder to parents to please monitor your children after school in the front garden and under buildings. Students are not permitted to run on the concrete, ride scooters/bikes in the school grounds or kick balls around the buildings. Also, please ensure that students are not running through the front gardens or walking along the garden wall as some of the bricks are becoming unstable.
If your child brings a mobile phone to school, they are required to hand their phone into the office as soon as they arrive on site. Students are not permitted to be on their phones before school, or store them in their school bags or tidy trays.
This expectation is clearly documented in our ESS Student Code of Conduct available on the website. Thank you for reminding your children to follow this expectation as per the “Away for the Day” EQ policy.
Feed Your Favourite Fella
On Tuesday this week, our school community enjoyed breakfast at our annual Feed Your Favourite Fella event on the front lawn of the school. It was wonderful to see so many of our students bring along their favourite fella to enjoy the sunshine and a sausage sizzle before school. Thanks to the P&C for hosting this special event and to Mr Tim Mander MP Everton for cooking and serving the sausages. All money raised goes towards supporting our Student Wellbeing Officer.
Year 4 MADD Day
On Monday 8th September, Everton Park State High School will again host its annual Music, Art, Drama and Dance (MADD) Day, which is a chance for primary and secondary staff and Year 4 students to collaborate artistically. The activities will commence at 9am with specialist workshops in Visual Art, Dance, Drama and Music. Students will harness their creative energies, while developing communication and interpersonal skills in a group environment. These workshops will run until 12pm and then students will break for lunch. After lunch, along with a high school student performance, students will showcase their creations with their peers. The day will end at 2pm with students walking back to school. We know they will all have a great time with their teachers!
P&C Colour Fun Run
The School Colour Fun Run is coming up next week. It is not too late to create a profile or start fundraising. Just jump on funrun.com.au to get started.
Please note that students need to raise a minimum of $10 to be able to participate in this event and earn a prize!
Students who are participating will be required to wear/bring:
- White t-shirt
- Shorts that can be coloured
- School hat and enclosed shoes – hats will be taken off for the run
- Bag for wet/coloured clothes
- Change of clothes for after the event
Spelling Bee
The Student Council Spell-a-thon was a huge success thanks to the generous donations of our school community. The final stage of this event is the Annual Spelling Bee competion. Over Weeks 9 and 10, Mrs Burrows and Mrs Robinson will be visiting each year level to run mini spelling bee competitions to find the champion speller for each grade. These 7 students will then compete in the ultimate Spelling Bee Competition in the EPAC in front of the whole school on Thursday 18th September at 9am! Who will be the Ultimate Spelling Champion of Enoggera State School for 2025???
Year 6 Graduation
The Year 6 Graduation Ceremony will be held in the EPAC on Thursday 11th December at 9am in the EPAC. All students from Years 3-6 will attend this ceremony. Siblings of Year 6 in Prep to Year 2, can be signed out by parents through the office to attend if you would like. Invitations will be sent home early next term.
The Graduation Dinner will be at a venue to be confirmed. The date is also yet to be confirmed but will be in Week 10 of the term (15th – 19th September). This confirmed date and venue will be communicated with parents as soon as we have details.
We are looking forward to celebrating the Year 6 Graduation with you all.
Students Arriving Late
A reminder that any students arriving late must sign in via the office and be given a late slip to give to their teacher. Please note that parents are not permitted to walk their children to class if it is after the 8:45am bell. Older students can walk themselves to the classrom and younger students can be escorted by staff from the office. Teachers are unable to communicate with parents when dropping off late students as they are busy teaching. Thank you for following this school process to minimise disruption to learning.

Once again Enoggera State School celebrated the Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week in style. This year was particularly special as we commemorated the 80th Year of Book Week.
It was lovely to see so many students in spectacular costumes! A big thank you to all the parents, grandparents, family members and friends who came to support our Parade.
A big congratulations to our Book Week Prize Winners who won for being their class’s top library book borrower for 2025.

We really encourage all families to sign up for QParents to keep on top of invoices and stay connected with school updates.
If you have any questions, need help, or would like to talk about setting up a payment plan, you’re always welcome to get in touch with me at bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au.
Thanks for your support!
QPARENTS – Stay Connected and Informed
We kindly remind all parents and caregivers that QParents is now the primary platform for receiving school communications, including consent forms and invoices.
To ensure you don’t miss any important information or deadlines, we strongly encourage all families to register for QParents as soon as possible.
If you choose not to sign up for QParents, please be aware that you will need to visit the school office regularly to collect any hard copy consent forms or notices.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us streamline communication and support a more efficient, environmentally friendly process.
LOST PROPERTY
Our Lost Property area – just under the administration office, outside the uniform shop – is overflowing with misplaced socks, school hats, and those vanishing jumpers. If your child is missing something, please encourage them to stop by and check this spot for anything that may be missing.
A huge thank you to the amazing parents who help keep things organised – we couldn’t do it without you!
SPARE UNIFORMS & UNDERWEAR – A LITTLE BACKUP GOES A LONG WAY!
A quick reminder to all our Prep and Year 1 families: please make sure your child has a full set of spare clothes in their school bag each day – including underwear and SOCKS! Sometimes little accidents happen, and having a change of clothes on hand helps keep our students comfortable and ready to learn.
If your child has borrowed any spare clothing from the office recently, we kindly ask that these items be returned as soon as possible. Our supply is running low, and we'd love to restock for any future needs.
We're also gratefully accepting donations of new underwear, as these items can't be reused once worn. Thanks so much for your support in helping us care for all our students!
CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE – TURN TRASH INTO TREASURE!
Did you know Queenslanders use around 3 billion drink containers every year? That’s a lot of bottles and cans – but thanks to Containers for Change, we can give them a second life and help our environment at the same time!
The Containers for Change Schools Program is a fun and easy way for schools like ours to raise funds while teaching students about the power of recycling. It’s a win-win for our planet and our school community!
If you’ve been collecting bottles and cans at home, you can support Enoggera State School by donating your containers. Just drop them off at any official Containers for Change collection point and use our school code: C11523111
Thanks for helping us make a difference – every container counts!
GROWING APPETITES & EMERGENCY LUNCHES
As the days warm up and students stay active, many are feeling hungrier than usual! A friendly reminder to pack a little extra food in your child’s lunchbox, if you’re able. We’ve noticed some students finishing their meals early and still feeling peckish later in the day.
On the rare occasions when lunch is forgotten, we do have emergency food supplies available at school, generously provided by Camp Australia and Foodbank. We’re very thankful for their ongoing support. Sandwiches are prioritised over snacks to ensure students receive a filling and nutritious option.
Making sure students come to school with enough food each day helps ease the load on our admin team during busy lunch breaks.
Thank you for helping keep our students happy, healthy, and ready to learn this spring!
Have a lovely fortnight!

Year 4 News
In HASS this term, students have been developing their geographical understanding by exploring countries in both South America and Africa. They have identified key geographical features of Argentina and Brazil, along with Egypt and Tanzania, building knowledge about landscapes, climate, and natural environments. Students have also explored the connections between the environment and living things, considering how people, plants, and animals rely on one another. In addition, they have examined the impact of human actions on these environments and reflected on how individual and collective choices can influence sustainability.
We have had a fabulous time in Science using our knowledge of the properties of various materials to trial and drop our precious cargo from the heights of the G block verandah. It was interesting to open the parcels and discover if our packaging was sufficient to allow our egg to remain intact.
Year 4 Teachers,
Alison Leeson, Laura Arthur and Belinda Harris
The Premier’s Coding Challenge is coming to an close at the end of Term Three. We already have some amazing completed entries! Here is a small example of an entry from in the “Scratch Pairs Years 3,4 Category”. Many students have toiled all year on the Challenge since it opened way back in February. I urge the competitors to continue working in the Lab at lunchtimes, to add the all-important finishing touches.
The Year 5/6 Solar Ovens are sitting in my classroom mostly ready for testing the end of Week 9. The challenge will be to make the gooiest chocolate marshmallow “Smore” or officially, the hottest oven. Students may bring a piece of chocolate between two biscuits, wrapped in alfoil on Friday September 12. Students with food allergies/ intolerances are reminded to bring alternative foodstuffs in alfoil, to melt to smithereens. Students can see Mr Harris ASAP for help with this project. All ovens will be measured using individual digital thermometers, for 30 minutes in the morning. NOTE! There are some unfinished ovens which could still be completed by their inventors during lunchtimes in the Lab, over the next week.
Mathletics - This month, the data has shown that more and more students are persisting with the difficult mathematical topics. Remind your child/ren that making mistakes is certainly OK, then when they eventually arrive the correct answer, it is a very rewarding experience indeed!

Digital Technologies Teacher

Dance Performance Team
Our Dance Performance Team has been working harder than ever, creating a brand-new routine that we hope to showcase at Arts on Stage in Term 4! I couldn’t be prouder of our students and the incredible success they have had in their very first season of competitions for Enoggera.
This season, our dancers have already achieved some amazing results:
3rd Place – Respect (Jazz) at both the Sunshine Coast Dance Eisteddfod and the Beenleigh Dance Eisteddfod
Very Highly Commended – Respect (Jazz) at the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge and Ashes (Contemporary) at the Sunshine Coast Dance Eisteddfod
Highly Commended – Ashes (Contemporary) at the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge
With so much talent, passion, and team spirit, we can’t wait to see what they bring to the stage next!
Arts on Stage Save the Date
Our Arts on Stage Performance will be held on Thursday 27th November. Ensembles involved in the performance include Vocal Performance Team, Dance Performance Team, Senior Strings, Chamber Strings, Junior Strings, Concert Band, Senior Choir, Junior Choir, Recorder Band, Boys Crew, Red Dance, Green Dance and Purple Dance.
More information regarding our Arts on Stage Performance will be out soon. Please keep an eye out for your emails.
Vocal Performance Team
Our Vocal Performance Team attended Singfest last Thursday at Wavell State High School. We had a fantastic day working with other schools under the direction of Kylie Los and Justine Favell. We worked on repertoire during the specialised vocal workshop that we had practiced in our school rehearsals during the year. The day concluded with a spectacular concert performing all of the prepared repertoire for parents and school leaders.
Dance Ensembles, Choirs & Recorder
Please ensure students are attending all rehearsals. Students are now preparing for Arts on Stage in Term 4. It's important that students are attending all rehearsals as we still have many students not turning up when they are at school. Please encourage students to practise at home. Many of the groups are nearly finished their items and if they are ready, they may have the opportunity to perform at assembly. More information regarding this will be sent home over the coming weeks. Keep practising!
Strings & Band
Students are still forgetting to bring their instrumentals to their lessons. Please ensure you bring your instrument each week and take it home at the end of the day. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays many instruments are left behind in EPAC. Students must take their instruments home.
Musical 2026
On Monday during assembly some of our wonderful Year 6 students took part in a flash mob to announce our 2026 Whole School Musical. Enoggera State School Presents... Madagascar Jnr
All students from Years Prep to Year 6 can be involved. The process will be similar to our last musical. We will be auditioning for leads roles first. Leads audition are for students currently in Years 3 -5. We will be holding an audition workshop and information session for students in Week 9 on Thursday 8am in EPAC. Auditions for leads will be held Term 4 Week 1/2. More information will be sent home soon.

In the coming week, keep an eye out for additional information outlining swimming lesson dates, times, and opportunities to assist—especially for parents of students in Prep to Year 2.
With the holidays just around the corner, now is a great time to check that your child has everything they need for swimming and is ready to go. Please ensure all items are clearly labelled with your child’s name, including school uniforms.
Swimming Gear Checklist:
-
Swimming Bag – Large enough to hold all swim gear and uniforms.
-

-
Sunsafe Shirt – Either a rash vest or T-shirt.
-

Supporting Positive Peer Relationships
Learning to make and maintain friendships is a big part of childhood — and it plays an important role in your child’s wellbeing and development. At school, we support students as they build the social and emotional skills needed to navigate peer relationships. As a parent, there are many ways that you can help support your child’s positive friendships:
Discuss how to be a good friend
Having regular conversations about the qualities of a good friend helps children recognise and practise them in everyday situations. Kindness, sharing, listening, and including others are all behaviours that can be modelled and practised at home. By discussing and listening to a range of different views, children and young people can build awareness and understanding of diversity. Creating a home environment where your child feels safe can assist them to talk about how they are feeling.
Practise Social Skills at Home
Encourage children and young people to use effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills while interacting with a range of people in your community. Role-playing common scenarios (like asking to join a game or handling a disagreement) can help children feel more confident and prepared. You can model respectful communication and show how to solve conflicts calmly and kindly.
Encourage Empathy
Encouraging positive behaviour is something you can do with your child at an early age to develop empathy and emotional intelligence. By considering what it might be like to be in someone else’s shoes, they will be more likely to show kindness and compassion towards others. This can then lead them to build strong connections with their peers and, hopefully, meaningful friendships.
When your child talks about a conflict with a friend, help them see the other person’s perspective. Questions like, “How do you think they felt?” or “What could you do next time?” encourage empathy and self-reflection. Create opportunities to include different perspectives – encourage children and young people to explore and appreciate the differences.
Support and guide conflict resolution
Friendship ups and downs are normal, and as your child gets older, they begin to display more intense emotions. It’s tempting to step in, but gently guiding your child to problem-solve for themselves helps them develop independence and resilience. When children resolve their own conflicts, they develop their understanding of other people’s feelings, as well as build their own self-confidence.
Celebrate Healthy Friendships
When your child shows care, patience, or problem-solving in a social setting, celebrate it! These moments reinforce the value of respectful and kind relationships. Encourage play dates with your child outside of school to enable opportunities for your child to connect outside of the school environment.
If your child is finding friendships challenging, please don’t hesitate to reach out. At school, we are here to support students and families with social and emotional learning because every child deserves to feel connected and valued at school.
