Happy Holidays

I am sure that as I get older, the years go by faster! Is it really the end of Term 3
already? Given that we have begun interviewing our 2025 Preps – I guess it really is the end of Term 3! What a great term it was! The highlight for me was definitely the Giants in the Sky School Musical. I was so proud of all the students (in two casts) who performed in the show. We are so very lucky to have such talented arts teachers with Mrs Rees and Miss Dunstan. During Term 3 we also celebrated 100 Days of Prep, the Year 4s went to Everton Park State High School for the MADD Day, Year 5/6 attended the Qld Volleyball Cup, two teams from Year 5/6 participated in the Maths Tournament, Bronte represented the school in Alphabucks on B105, we dressed up for the Book Week Parade, Year 2s visited Lone Pine, and the Preps are visiting Nudgee Beach on Thursday!
Next term, we look forward to the Book Fair, Swimming lessons (starting in Week 1), Prep 2025 Transition Mornings, Roll Up Afternoon, Arts on Stage, Xmas Carols and Movie night, Year 5 Leadership Workshops, Year 5/6 Gala Sports, Day for Daniel, Swimming Carnivals, and the Year 6 Graduation and Dinner! It is going to be a huge term, so I hope that everybody has a relaxing holiday and returns next term feeling rested and ready to go for Term 4!

Our school has a very active Facebook page with daily posts to keep our school community informed of what is happening in our school. Our events are posted throughout the term to allow parents time to be prepared for the term ahead. Click on the more tab and then the events tab in the dropdown menu to go to our events. You will notice that the Term 4 events will start to be posted soon.
The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. A reminder that Facebook is not the best platform to ask questions that you need immediate or urgent replies to, as we don’t always see questions in the comment sections of a post. This is best done by emailing the teacher/admin or calling the office. Facebook is also not a site for posting complaints or negative comments about staff or school processes. If you have some constructive feedback for the school or an issue that you would like to raise, we would respectfully ask that you make an appointment to speak with the Principal to discuss your concerns. Any inappropriate or derogatory comments will be removed from the platform.
Pillar Practice
Our three school pillars include Safety (Be Safe); Relationships (Be Respectful); and Learning (Be a Responsible Learner). Each fortnight at Assembly, a Pillar Practice is shared with staff and students that becomes our focus behaviour improvement. This fortnight, our Pillar Practice focusses on ‘Finishing Strong’. The key reminders are:
- Making Green Choices
- Keep Hands and Feet to Self
- Be Respectful – to staff and peers
- Use Walking Feet
- Keep Learning
All class teachers are provided with a poster for their classroom and will explicitly teach our school expectations around the relevant pillar and behaviour. Students are reminded daily about our focus behaviour with the goal of improving this behaviour across the school. The Student Engagement and Behaviour committee reviews behaviour data across the school at their meetings to discuss future focus areas for identified behaviours of concern. This process is documented in our Student Code of Conduct and is part of our explicit teaching of behaviour in our school. You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
Thank you for your support of the Subway Meal Deal and also the National Endagered Species Foundation. Students enjoyed bring their favourite stuffed animal to school last Friday and we raised just over $200 for the foundation.
Spell-a-thon letters, sponsorship forms and spelling lists were sent out with students last week. Over the holidays, please encourage your children to seek donations and sponsorship safely from family and friends. Please note that students have been provided with different levels of lists to meet individual needs. Teachers will complete the tests on the first Friday of Term 4. Sponsorship forms must be returned by Thursday 3rd October in preparation for the test. The office will then collect results and tally money to collect based on the sponsors. These forms will then be sent home for families to collect money to return. More information will be provided of each key date involved in the Spell-a-thon. Thanks so much for your support of this new Student Council inititive to raise money for their legacy item.
Front Garden
With the reintroduction of Frozen Friday in Term 4, we ask parents to please monitor your children after school in the front garden and under buildings. Students are not permitted to run on the concrete, ride scooters/bikes in the school grounds or kick balls around the buildings. Also, please ensure that students are not running through the front gardens or walking along the garden wall as some of the bricks are becoming unstable. We love to see families enjoying the Frozen Fridays, but please help us to ensure it is safe for all.
Student Leaders 2025
Next term, Year 5 students will invited to apply for a student leader position in 2025 at Enoggera State School.
There are multiple positions available:
- 2x School Captains
- 1x Student Council Chairperson (Vice-Captain)
- 2x Banksia House Captain (Banksia Students only)
- 2x Waratah House Captain (Waratah Students only)
- 2x Arts Captain
- Student Council Class Representatives Yr 3-6 (Process in class in 2025)
Successful applicants for all positions can be boys or girls. There will be four Student Leader Workshops run at lunch breaks with Mrs Robinson and Mrs Burrows to assist the students to prepare their applications and learn about leadership. Attending these workshops is recommended but not essential. There are other leadership opportunities for students in Year 6 including Tech Crew and Pink Vest Volunteers. These are a different process that will implemented in 2025. More information will be provided next term.
Enoggera’s Got Talent
Now that the musical is completed, we have lots of students looking for another opportunity to perform! The Student Council has decided to introduce our first ever Talent Show called, “Enoggera’s Got Talent”. Early next term, students will be able to put a nomination in for a talent item – this could be individual or groups. Students can choose to showcase a talent such as singing, dancing, magic trick, playing an instrument etc. There will be heats held during lunch times from Week 8 and finalists will be announced for the Finals show in Week 10.

House Mascot Names
After class voting, the names of our two House Mascots have finally been chosen…..
Warrior the Waratah Wombat
Bandit the Banksia Bandicoot.
The next step will be getting characters designed and costumes!

Car Parking at the Church
A reminder to our school commuity that there is an issue happening again at drop off and pick up time with our school parents using allocated parking spaces in the church carpark. In some instances, a family trying to collect their children from the centre were unable to get a parking space even though the spaces are clearly marked as being for UEL. The centre also have staff commencing work at 3pm who can’t use the allocated UEL staff parking spaces due to parents waiting for their school children in their car. Please be mindful of the needs of the staff and children at the UEL and refrain from parking in their carparks.

B105 Alphabucks
Good luck to our School Captain Bronte, who made it through to the finals of the Schools’ Alphabucks competition on B105. Bronte was in the studio this morning and the show will be broadcast tomorrow morning at approximately 9am on B105. Bronte could win $10 000 for our school and $1000 for herself! Good luck!!!

Library Upgrades
Over the holidays the library and computer lab will be undergoing a makeover with a full interior paint. The library will remain closed in Week 1 whilst we unpack and redesign library areas. We thank the students for their understanding around this and look forward to unveiling our exciting new look library in Week 2 of Term 4. A big thank you to all the staff that helped get the library ready for the repaint.
BOOK CLUB Issue 6:
Our Book Club orders have arrived today and students should receive their order tomorrow so they will have them in time for some wonderful holiday reading.
Term 4 Learning
Staff have been working very hard in preparing quality learning for students in Term 4 aligned to Version 9 Australian Curriculum in English and version 8.4 Australian Curriculum in all other Learning Areas. Term 4 learning information will be provided to parents and caregivers via Curriculum Overviews and Class Term 4 Newsletters in Week 2 of Term 4.
Happy Holidays!

Head of Department, Curriculum
Hello Parents and Caregivers,
Please find below my updates for this coming fortnight.
GENERAL FINANCE
Just a reminder that full payment on the below activities is due soon. Please note if full payment and the online consent form isn’t received by the due date, students will unfortunately not be able to attend. Late payments and consents cannot be accepted. If you are having financial difficulty and require financial assistance, please contact bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au to arrange a payment plan.

Due Date |
City District Gala Sports |
13th of September |
Prep SRS Payment Plan – Final Payment |
13th of September |
Please ensure the above payments are made before the holidays. Students who have not paid for GALA Sport by Friday the 13th of September will not be able to attend next term as late payments cannot be accepted.
Just letting all parents and carers know, invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolment and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only one paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you would like more information around this please email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online.
We strongly recommend all parents to sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the schools’ happenings. Starting from Term 3, a new process will be starting through QParents, and consents will be sent out prior to an excursion/incursion. Once the consent has been granted then families will be invoiced. This ensures that only families that are consenting to excursions are invoiced to stop the double up on invoicing. If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly.
Have a fantastic break and see you all next term!

Year 3 have been studying the importance of Camera Angles in English this term. Camera angles are always included in books and movies. Authors use them to show how a character is feeling and what sort of situation they are in.
Different camera angles include:
Low Angle – this shows a character who is strong and domineering.
High angle – this shows a weak and feeble character.
Extreme long shot – shows where the story is set and who is in the story.
Point of View – raises excitement as it shows the story through the characters eyes.
Students have also written and published a story on Book Creator that include camera angles of our choice. It was overall very fun and we all enjoyed making our own multimodal story.

School Vegetable Garden Harvest
This week students finally harvested the last of our vegetables from the school garden. It is amazing how much you can grow with a simple DIY digital watering system! During the sustainability unit next Term, we will determine the final value of all vegetables harvested throughout the year. After taking out the expenses, like water, mulch, fertilizer and seedlings, it looks like we will make a small profit! The photo is the last of the carrots harvested on Tuesday, 10 September.
We have now begun propagating tree seeds and hopefully soon, the Friends of the School Garden (all families are welcome) will take seedlings, and plant them in and around erosion-prone areas of the city.
Bebras Challenge
The Bebras Thinking Challenge is on again in Term 4. All Wednesday afternoon Coding Club students will be participating in the Quiz. I urge all Years 3-6 students to have at least one try at conquering these modern technical Primary School challenges. More information can be found on the Bebras website. Email mharr94@eq.edu.au if you are keen for your child/ren to be involved in this free, lunchtime activity.

Volleyball Cup
On Thursday 29th August, 59 Year 5 & 6 students travelled to Craigslea State High School for the annual Queensland Primary Schools Volleyball Cup.
It was so good to see so many children from so many schools participating on the day.
All 11 teams played in various finals, however two Year 5 Boys teams - Yellow and Green made it to the first VS second playoffs. Both teams ended up winning second place, which was a fantastic effort.
Students remained hydrated and stayed mostly in the shade which was important on such a hot day. I was very pleased to not see any sunburnt faces on our return to school.
A big thanks to the teachers attending on the day as it is a big day on your feet but hopefully the quality volleyball on display made up for it. Thanks to Miss Lancaster and Miss Dowling plus support staff at school assisting with all the administration on the day.
Hats
Students not having their hats for PE is still a huge issue for most classes.
Sunsafe hats are an essential part of our school uniform. Please check that your child has their hat everyday.
In our younger classes we have been talking about how they can remember to always have their hats – keep it in their bag, leave it in tidy trays or some even have a spare hat in their school bag so they always have one.
Interschool Gala Sport Term 4
Gala Days are all set for City District Schools for the first three Fridays in Term 4. Notes have been sent home via email and all online consents and payments are due by friday the 13th of September for all year 5 & 6 students planning on attending. Teams have been nominated and Mr Woodrick will inform teams early next term. If you have not completed the QParents consent or paid the bus fee – please do so by the due date.
Year 3 & 4 classes will also participate in skill development program at school on the same three Fridays that the senior students are participating in Gala sports.
Tennis
The first ESS tennis tournament was a huge success. We had our semi-finals day on Tuesday and I am pleased to announce Matias C will play Harry P in the Thursday final. This will be a properly scored final which will add some extra interest in the match.
Look out for who is champion in the next newsletter.
This event will be held every year so please keep up the practice if you are in the younger grades.
A big thanks to Scott from Slice Tennis who helped get the competition up and running and supplied the trophy.
Well done to all 61 students who gave it a go. It was awesome watching the competition and seeing the crowd support all players. It was also very encouraging to see the sportsmanship on display, with a handshake or fist bump at the net at the end of the match. Well done.
Swimming
We will be returning to the pool for our PE lessons in Term 4. Please keep an eye out for swimming days as it will likely change from Term 1.
If you are a parent of a child in Prep to Year 2 and would like to volunteer at the swimming lessons, please email me directly to let me know – aawoo0@eq.edu.au
Remember for swimming students will need the following:
- Swimming Bag (suitable to hold all swimming gear and uniforms when in the pool).
- Swimmers (please avoid cross overs straps for our younger students if possible, they can cause difficulties when getting changed for our little ones.)
- Towel
- Swimming Cap (COMPULSORY)
- Sunsafe Shirt (this may be either a rash vest or a T-shirt)
- Goggles (Recommended)
- Plastic Bag to carry wet swim wear after lessons.
(Please make sure ALL items of clothing are marked with the students name – this includes school uniforms.)

Guidance Officer News - R U OK?
Check in with family, friends and those struggling with life by checking on their well-being on national RU OK Day on Thursday 12 September 2024. You don’t need to be an expert to reach out and ask someone, ‘are you OK?’
When we genuinely ask, ‘are you OK?’ and are prepared to talk about how they’re feeling and what’s going on in their life we can help someone who might be struggling feel connected and supported, long before they’re in crisis. Try and make time for regular chats about life’s ups and downs so you can build trust. That way when someone is struggling, they’ll know you care and will feel comfortable opening up to you. This way, we can make ‘are you OK?’ a part of our everyday.
It helps to choose the right time and place for a meaningful conversation, this might be
- When exercising together
- When connecting or doing activities together online
- When you’re doing an activity side-by-side
- When you’re sharing a meal
- When you’re travelling in the car together.
Some conversations are too big for family and friends to take on alone. If someone’s been really low for more than 2 weeks, or is at risk, if you need professional support, please contact your doctor, local health centre or one of the services listed below.

Miss Dunstan and I wanted to say one final HUGE thank you to all of our amazing musical families: for your amazing support during rehearsals, working bees and all of the performances; for your kind emails; for all of your effort you put into hair, makeup and costumes; and for allowing us to live out our passion project through the amazing talented students here at Enoggera. We are forever grateful for this wonderful opportunity to share our passion for the arts with you all. We look forward to many more musicals in the future.

Hello Brisbane Schools and Families,
Brisbane Festival is committed to fostering an inclusive and accessible celebration of arts and culture. This September, we're proud to present a program that will inspire audiences with new ideas and experiences that leave life-long impressions.
Fancy Long Legs. Ages 3-8 years. 12-22 Sep. La Boite Theatre.
A groundbreaking, fully accessible work for young audiences and the young at heart. The show has been created with accessibility at its core to ensure the theatre experience is welcoming, safe and inclusive for all.
Lighting the Dark. All ages. 12-14 Sep. Thomas Dixon Centre.
A bold new work by Chris Dyke, a Kaurna (Adelaide) based dancer and choreographer living with Down Syndrome. With the mesmerising Dancenorth Ensemble by his side, Chris leads the way, transforming the stage into a portal where love and light illuminate darkness.
We also invite you to bring your family along to sing, dance and connect at our free Brisbane Serenades outdoor concerts.
Hope to see you at the festival!
Did you watch the 800 metres Track and Field and see Peyton Craig in the Olympics onThursday evening 8 August?:
I wanted to let you know about something awesome we are doing here at Official School wear – our Scholarships For Dreams competition.
We are so proud of being a small part of Peytons journey to the Olympics. They say that the first step in achieving something amazing is to first conceive and believe you can achieve.
Scholarships for dreams was founded to follow the philosophy of Barry Berghan who believes that we all must have a dream. That we all need to support and encourage each other with positivity and energy and that the best thing we ever do is to give to help others achieve.
So, please pass this around to all the students of your school community and invite them to send in their BIG dreams as they expect great things!
Here is a link to the site where they can enter https://scholarshipsfordreams.com/
