Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE
This week our Learning Curve program is from the Positive Emotion and Gratitude Wellbeing element. The wellbeing skill builder is ‘Growth Mindset’ in Prep - Year 2 and ‘Moving your Mindset’ in Years 3 - 6. The lessons teach students to understand that their mindset is about what they believe they can change themselves, and that their challenge is to move it further towards growth by practising the things that they want to improve. These concepts are being taught in the Health lessons with Miss Dunstan this week and followed up in classrooms. Our Year 3-6 students continue to track their progress in their Learning Curve diaries. The parent newsletter is attached below.

STAFFING
Last week our Technical Officer Mr Andrew Wilson, who has serviced our school on his circuit for the past 7 years finished up at Enoggera as he was promoted to a higher classification based at Eatons Hill SS. We thank Andrew for his dedication to our school during his time with us and we wish him all the best with his promotion. Lee Baker has taken over the position, as he did last year whilst Andrew was relieving above level.
We have also finished the recruitment for the Defence School Mentor position to start next term. The winner was Hannah Lee and we look forward to working with her next term.
We have also finalised the recruitment for the permanent A02 position to replace Stacey Talbot. The winner is Jacinta Slater who comes to us from Wilston SS where she an A02 part time. We welcome Jacinta and thank Dal Bageda for stepping into the role temporarily for the later half of this term.
Also in staffing, our HOD-C (Head of Department Curriculum), Amy O’Malley is currently on long service leave and will return during the last week of this term.
In our 2024 staffing allocation we have been allocated another classified officer position with a HOSES (Head of Special Education Services). Currently Belinda Paton is acting in this position temporarily whilst the permanent position is currently advertised on Smart Jobs and will close on March 27.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Over the coming school holidays as usual there will be works undertaken at our school. The front of our school will get a new facelift and increased security with our pool fence along the stop drop and go being replaced with the new 8 foot high DoE security fencing that you may have seen at other schools. This is a start in getting new fencing around the whole school perimeter, as we are still trying to get on the fencing program for this to happen.
The rest of the works around the B and C block refurbishment program will also be completed with the new classroom doors, autext operable walls between classrooms and noticeboards going in as well as paint touch ups and some other minor repairs.
NAPLAN TESTING
Thank you to families for your co-operation during the NAPLAN testing which was mostly completed on Monday this week. The last test for our Year 3 and 5 students, was the Numeracy test. We still have to the end of the week to do some catch up tests with students who were absent before the testing system closes off for us on Friday. We look forward to the interim results and raw scores coming back later next term before the reports for parents will be released towards the end of Term 3. A big thank you to Mrs O’Malley, our NAPLAN coordinator and the other staff who assisted with setting up, supervision or packing down after testing occurred.
WELLBEING OFFICER
Our Wellbeing Officer, Alisha Pearson has settled in well restarting the Breakfast program on Tuesday mornings, the fruit program and the Friday radio program on the Astro-turf. She has been spending time getting to know students, families and staff both in the classrooms and the playground and has been working closely with our Students Services team to support students in need.
It was great to see at the recent P and C meeting that the P and C committed to supporting the role for the rest of this year by funding the shortfall in wages to keep the service for two days per week in our school, since the new role no longer has the backing of the Local Chaplaincy Committee and its funding.
2026 PREP ENROLMENTS
We will be commencing our 2026 Prep enrolment process with our first Open Morning of the year next term on May 2 from 9-11am. The morning is for all prospective ESS families and will commence with a presentation in EPAC with a Q&A at the end and then a tour of the facilities following. Families wishing to enrol a Prep student for 2026 can collect an enrolment pack from the Administration office and return the completed enrolment form at any time. At this stage we are accepting enrolments for in-catchment families only. If you are out-of-catchment and wishing to enrol for 2026 you can complete a waiting list form and we will be in touch later in the year as enrolments for 2026 are firmed up and we determine if there are any spaces remaining.
P&C
Our P&C Annual General Meeting will be held in the G Block Staffroom next Tuesday evening at 6:15pm where all positions are declared vacant and elections are held for office bearers for 2025. I thank our 2024 outgoing Executive for their work for our school and I encourage all families to get behind our wonderful P&C. The P&C work tirelessly for the school to support the school strategically through fundraising and offer vital services to our school community, such as the Tuck Inn and the Uniform Shop.
They recently held a very successful Bunnings BBQ fundraiser to start the year and will hold their first major fund raiser, the Bush Dance this Friday night at EPSHS. Again, I encourage families to get behind and support our P&C as all of their fundraising proceeds go back into supporting the school. Whether that be through attending events or volunteering at events your help is always much appreciated.
TEACHING OF READING V9
In case you missed this in the newsletter last fortnight with the tropical cyclone. Last year we commenced implementation of the Australian Curriculum Version 9 in English and this year in Mathematics. As part of the changes to English there have been significant changes to the teaching of reading in Australian Schools as part of this curriculum. Our staff have been working through the professional development around the changes late last year and we have created an action plan to guide implementation in readiness for a full roll out next year.
Last year the Department of Education conducted some parent twilight sessions online which were well received. These were recorded and I have attached the link below.
https://mediasite.eq.edu.au/mediasite/Play/d5a99b04712b44758dc85854bde46a3c1d
There is also a parent brochure at this link.
https://det-school.eq.edu.au/assets/reading/documents/reading-parent-brochure.pdf
As we progress further into our action plan we will share more specific information about how you can support your child to read at home and about the changes to the way we are attacking word reading (sight words) etc
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
Pillar Practice
As we did not have an assembly this week to launch a new Pillar Practice, this week we continued to focus on good manners and greetings.
In particular we are focussing on:
- Please and thank-you
- May I
- Excuse Me
To positively reinforce this Pillar Practice, we have Special Relationship Gotchas that teachers will be handing out across the school and drawn at assembly in Week 9.
You can support us by being aware of the current Pillar Practice and discussing the expectations with your children at home.
Student Council
The Student Council has organised their first Subway Meal Deal for the year and you can order your subway and drink until Thursday 20th March at 9am. These will be delivered on Monday 24th March in Week 9 of this term.
Harmony Day
Enoggera State School will be celebrating Harmony Day on Friday March 21st. Harmony Day is a celebration that recognises our diversity and brings together Australians from all different backgrounds. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Students are invited to wear either clothing or an accessory representing a different culture. There is no cost associated with this dress up day.
Easter Bonnet Parade
Our annual Easter Bonnet Parade will be held for Preps and Year 1s on the multipurpose court on Friday 4th April from 9am. Students will make their easter bonnets in class with their teachers in preparation for the event. Parents and caregivers are welcome to come along to watch this exciting event and join in with some Easter dances with their children at the end.
For the prep students who have swimming lessons on Friday morning at 9am, Mr Woodrick will move your lesson to later in the day so you don’t miss out on getting in the pool one last time.
We look forward to sharing this special event with you!
Youth Leadership Academy
On Monday 17th March, our Year 6 Student Leaders attended the Youth Leadership Academy Primary Dream and Lead Conference with Mrs Burrows as part of their student leader training. Dream and Lead is a one-day, highly engaging event designed to support primary school students in discovering their leadership potential, whilst providing them with strong foundations to succeed. Throughout the day, captains participated in purposeful activities developing their problem-solving skills, and increasing confidence and independence. Facilitated by internationally trained young leaders, students recognised the impact they can create as a young person. It was a great day for everyone!
‘Starlab’ Incursion
Yesterday, the Year 3 classes attended the Starlab Incursion in the EPAC. ‘Starlab’ Education provides inspiring astronomy and earth science programs throughout Queensland. Presenters brought the ‘Cosmodome’ Science Theatre & Planetarium to Enoggera to provide the curriculum-based, interactive, engaging program to our students.

Parents who haven’t made payment for their children’s CARS & STARS subscription will unfortunately directly affect children in the classroom as subscriptions cannot be completed until payment is made.
Just letting all parents and carers know, invoices are always sent out to the paying parent via email. The paying parent is allocated at time of enrolment and can only be changed if requested in writing. What this means is that only one paying parent can view invoices online through QParents. If you would like more information around this please email me on bsm@enoggerass.eq.edu.au . If you believe you may have a student credit on your account, please contact me directly to apply this credit as you are unable to allocate credits through QParents online.
We strongly recommend all parents to sign up to Qparents, so they can stay in the loop with the schools’ happenings. If you have any other financial inquiries, please contact me directly.
SPARE UNIFORMS AND UNDERWEAR
It is important that all year 1 and prep students have spare clothes packed in their bags including underwear. We request this just in case a student has an accident throughout the day. If you have a child who has recently borrowed clothing from the office, could you please urgently return these spares and replacement underwear to the office as we have very low spare clothes.
We are also happy to accept donations of underwear due to these not being returnable – we cannot accept already used and washed underwear.
STOP DROP AND GO ZONE – 285 South Pine Road
The stop, drop and go zone is monitored each morning and each afternoon by a staff member. The correct procedure for this area is to drive up to the gate where the staff member is standing who will assist the safety of your student/s out of the car and on to the school grounds. Please do not stop halfway and try and help your student out of the car at the first gate closest to the OSHC and Administration. If you do stop at the first gate, this causes a ripple effect in cars backing up and blocking the school entry and affecting the school crossing. Please follow the directions of the staff member to ensure the smooth transition of cars during these busy times.
Brisbane City Council has been advised of illegal street parking in the area and people not following the stop drop and go sign rules. Vehicles must not be left in this area at any time. If you require additional time to unload your student/s in the morning, please ensure you’re a parking in a street park and walking up to the school. Alternatively, we have a stop drop and go zone located on Laurel Street, which is also monitored daily by a staff member. The same rules apply. Thank you for your understanding with this matter.
LOST PROPERTY
Just a reminder to parents and students that the school’s lost property is located directly under the administration office outside of the uniform shop. A big thank you to the parents in the community who have been collecting lost property daily and putting items in this area for students to collect.
Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any concerns relating to finance or consents through QParents.
Have a wonderful fortnight!
Ellie Mastrapostolos
Business Manager
Class Swimming:
Please remember to check your students’ belongings to ensure they are still named – we have had quite a few items over the last couple of weeks left behind which have not been named, making it difficult to return their owners.
Students unable to swim due to illness – if your child is unable to swim on any particular week, please send a note to school with your child or email me at aawoo0@eq.edu.au
Cross Country:
The school Cross Country will be held on Monday 31th March.
Students aged 9 – 12 in 2024 are eligible to attempt to qualify for the City District Cross Country which will be held early in Term 2. Please note below the corrected year of birth for the distance events.
12 year old (2013) – 3km event – boys/girls (For District Selection)
11year old (2014) – 3km event – boys/girls (For District Selection)
10 year old (2015) – 2km event – boys/girls (For District Selection)

Congratulations to Sienna G for also making the QLD swim team. Unfortunately the Met North trial was cancelled, however her fast times got her into the team. Well done!!!
3 on 3 Basketball:
We are starting the 3 on 3 basketball this week. Watch this space for the result.
Mr Andrew Woodrick
HPE Teacher
This term the children have been immersed in learning how to write a character preference. They have been exposed to determined princesses in The Paper Bag Princess, meek mice and scaredy-cats in The Lion Inside and cute and courageous characters in Traction Man to learn about character appearance and traits. Over the next couple of weeks, they will be rehearsing and presenting their preference using speaking skills.
Students have also been exploring toys in design and the forces that move them in science. Some students have had the opportunity to make and test parachutes in preparation for designing their own toys.
In Mathematics, we have been working on efficient strategies for math mentals, representing data into graphs and leaning about space and location on maps.

Emotional Regulation
As children grow, their emotions and how they interact with the world around them becomes more complex. Learning to regulate emotions is a developmental process and the ability to manage emotions and behaviour in accordance with the demands of the situation is referred to emotional regulation. Skills for managing a wide range of emotions are important for children to learn as it helps to foster positive mental health and wellbeing throughout their lifespan. Research has shown that emotional-regulation skills are tied to a range of positive health outcomes, including resilience to stress, increased happiness, and better overall well-being.
Learning emotional regulation skills takes time and practice. As an adult, you can help your child learn and develop their emotion regulation skills by asking your child how they are how feeling and encourage them to share any thoughts or feelings that they have. For young children, it may be helpful to draw their emotions or act them out. It is important to validate your child’s emotions and to avoid labelling any emotions as positive or negative.
Promoting a calm environment at home can assist children manage their own emotions by providing structure and predictability. Modelling and teaching how to slow down and calmly respond to situations rather than being impulsive is another way to help your child learn about emotional regulation. Encourage children to spend a little bit of time each day to in a calm and quiet space to reset and refocus. Introducing children to mindfulness activities including breathing techniques, such as belly breathing or rainbow breathing can also help to assist in regulating emotions. For further information, on emotional regulation, visit

Student Wellbeing Officer News
What a huge and crazy couple of weeks we have had. I hope everyone has been excited to return to school after the cyclone.
Breakfast club has been happening every Tuesday morning from 8am, and the senior students who have been helping have been amazing. They are reaping the rewards with first pick of up and go’s and a community Gotcha each. It is great to be able to meet so many students through the common interest of some toast and an up and go.
Every Friday we have our disco dance parties on the green at second break where students from across the whole school get to come and have a dance and get ready for the weekend. Two Community Gotchas are handed out each disco to the best dancers.
I have also really enjoyed story time and reading a few good books to students in the library at breaktimes. This is a great opportunity to really get to know students and their interests here at Enoggera.
I have been meeting so many amazing students here at Enoggera, and many more to meet and engage with. I cant wait.
