Dear Parents and Caregivers,
LEARNING CURVE
This week our Learning Curve program is from the ‘Engagement and Mindfulness’ category. The wellbeing skill builder is ‘Good and Bad Thoughts’ for the Prep - Year 2 and ‘Good for Bad’ for the Year 3-6 classes. The junior idea is about how our bodies look for bad things to protect us and to keep us safe, however then it is important to look for good things happening, so as not to dwell on the bad things. The senior topic is about the same idea but goes further to use self-talk to put a positive spin on things, so you also do not dwell on the bad things. Our challenge this week is to find the good in things that happen to be positive and optimistic, rather than negative and pessimistic.
These concepts were introduced on assembly this week and are being taught in the Health lessons with Miss Dunstan and followed up in classrooms. Our Year 3-6 students continue to track their progress in their Learning Curve diaries. The parent newsletter is attached below.

QUEENSLAND ENGAGEMENT AND WELLBEING SURVEY
Recently, our Year 4/5/6 students received an email for the DoE QEW team regarding participating in the QEW survey for this year. Thank you to Mr Harris who facilitated this in his Digital Technology lessons so that we may receive the valuable data around the engagement and wellbeing of our older students. We participate in this survey biannually as the QEW Survey gives schools the opportunity to hear the collective voice of their students. Survey results are intended to inform continuous improvement within schools and provide an evidence-based approach to positively and proactively support students’ mental health, school engagement and wellbeing.
The QEW Survey measures wellbeing and engagement across 12 domains: including resilience; school climate; sense of belonging; motivation and perseverance; academic self-concept; personal social capabilities; general life satisfaction; future outlook and aspirations; relationships with peers, with teachers and at home; and general health. We look forward to receiving the data later in the year to drive future strategy implementation.
RECONCILIATION ACTION PLAN
At our last School Council meeting in Term One the team decided to look for interest in parents and staff who would be interested in serving on a short-term committee to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan for Enoggera state School. I am therefore calling for any parent interest in this task to reach out. Please email me on principal@enoggerass.eq.edu.au if you are interested in being part of this team as it is very important work.
PREP OPEN DAY
Last Friday morning we held our first Open Day for this year for families who are looking to enrol here for 2026 either in Prep or other year levels. Thre presentation took place in the EPAC, followed by a Q&A and tour of the school facilities. Thank you to our P&C for providing the morning tea afterwards.
We will hold another Open Day in Term 3 on Friday 25 July. Prep Enrolment Interviews will commence at the end of Term 3 and then the Prep Transition and Information sessions will be held in Term 4.
If you know of families who live in our catchment and are hoping to come here next year, please let them know of the Open Days coming up. Families who have made their decision can drop in enrolment forms to the office at any stage to enable us to get them on the system and into the communication channels for next year. Even those families living in our catchment need to submit their applications as soon as possible, as the DoE are considering some changes to our catchment area to hopefully contain our current growth.
DANCE AND VOCAL PERFORMANCE TEAMS
This week our very talented Dance Performance Team (DPT) are performing at the Sunshine Coast Eisteddfod at their very first competitive performance. They have been working so hard all year under the direction of the talented Miss Dunstan and we wish them all the very best for this outing. Likewise, our Vocal Performance Team (VPT) under the direction of Mrs Rebecca Rees, are also heading to their first competitive performance on Monday next week as part of the DoE Choral Fanfare event. It was wonderful to see them showcase their repertoires recently at the afternoon concert and we wish them all the best as they head into their competitions.
I encourage parents of students in these groups to ensure you are keeping up with the communications from the teachers so that your students are ready to perform.
CROSS COUNTRY
Congratulations to our small team of Cross Country runners who represented our school recently at the City District Cross Country competition. Thank you to Mr Woodrick for facilitating the many morning training sessions, the multiple attempts to run our Interhouse events and for convening the City District event. Congratulations also to Elka J. for coming first in her event at City District and be selected to run at the Metropolitan North competition later this month.
READER’S CUP
Our Reader’s Cup teams are currently working very hard in preparation for the Brisbane North competition to be held at Kurwongbah SS on June 18. They are meeting 5 times per week to read and study the 5 set texts for the competition. Congratulations on being selected and all the best for the final weeks of preparation and the competition to: Ella, Kate, Rachel, Elliot, Vishnu, Zoe, Charlotte, Brea, Rose and Lara.
Till next time,
Mrs Anne Robinson
Principal
This fortnight our Pillar Practice focusses on the Safety Pillar. Students are revising expectations around safe play including
- Following the rules of play – basketball, soccer and playgrounds
- Resolving conflict without physical aggression.
- Leaving rocks and sticks in the garden
Teachers will teach our school expectations during this Pillar Practice and will be giving out safety gotchas to align with these expectations. At the request of the Student Council, we will also be focussing on giving out Walking Feet Gotchas to address the ongoing safety issue of running on the concrete.
Please ensure your children are wearing the correct jumper to school during the cooler months. Parents are asked to please follow our school Dress Code that requires students either wear the school jacket, or a plain blue jumper. Blue jumpers with printed designs, colour jumpers and hoodies are not permitted. Students not wearing the correct jumper will be directed to the office to borrow a correct jumper for the day. Girls are permitted to wear navy tights. As these are difficult to find, they are also permitted to wear black tights.
Blue tracksuit pants are also suitable for both boys and girls to wear with their polo shirt. This Dress Code was developed collaboratively with the school community and supports the wearing of a school uniform to promote a sense of belonging and school pride. It also promotes a supportive environment fostering mutual respect among individuals at school by minimising visible evidence of economic, class or social difference. Thank you for your support of our School Dress Code.
A reminder that the Student Council is planning another Meal Deal fundraiser in Week 9 with money raised going towards their legacy item. Details will be sent home very soon about this.
Also this term, a “Book Swap” in which students are permitted to bring a maximum of 3 books from home that they don’t want anymore to school to swap. Each swap costs the students a gold coin. In swapping their book, we raise money for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and our students get to take up to three different books home for some holiday reading. This will be held on Thursday 26th June at both breaks in the library. Further details on how this will run will be provided later in the term.
The second fundraiser is for the Student Council legacy item, and the students have decided to have a Crazy Socks and Sunnies dress up day. Students are asked to donate a gold coin donation to the Student Council on Friday 13th June. Thanks for your support of the Student Council.
MSP Photo Day
This Friday 16th May is our school photo day in the EPAC. Please ensure that students are wearing their school uniform (not their house shirt), white socks and fully black shoes. Sibling photos can be taken before school from 8:15am and at first break.
National Walk Safely to School
Students are invited to meet with staff at the Shand St Park on Corbett St to walk safely to school via Laurel St. Parents are welcome to come along and join us however please don’t bring your dogs!

WELCOME TO OUR NEW ADMINISTRATION OFFICER

Hello Parents and Carers,
My name is Jacinta Slater, and I have started as the Administration Officer at Enoggera State School this term. Everyone has been very welcoming, and it has been lovely meeting all the students, parents and teachers.
I am enjoying all the daily happenings at Enoggera State School especially the Wreath laying service and all the effort the students went to for dress like a Pirate Day.
Previous, to this role I was the administrator at Wilston State School. I am also a busy mum of three children and a menagerie of animals. On the weekends you might find me marrying couples, as I am also a Marriage Celebrant.
Thanks for the lovely welcome Enoggera State School and I look forward to seeing all your friendly faces in the office soon.

Lithium Fire Alert
Recently an extremely worrying trend is posting on TikTok about what happens when a paperclip is inserted into a charge or USB port. Parents and guardians are asked to be especially vigilant at this time as device short-circuits can easily lead to lithium battery fires. These types of fires are extremely difficult to extinguish and may cause horrific burns.
Phone fires can also be caused by people rolling onto their phones in bed, or when a phone is accidentally buried under blankets. Mobile phones heat up and could ignite into fire. Please take care and charge your phone away from the bedroom, under a fire alarm.
Spam Emails
The school recently experienced an email spam. Please pass on my appreciation to your child/ren for reporting and deleting the email. It is pleasing to see that the Enoggera SS students are following the basic cyber-safety rules.

TUCKSHOP Volunteers for TERM 2
Did you know, the Tuckshop is solely run and operated by the P&C. Rosetta our fabulous tuckshop convenor has been with our school for over 10 years, but she cannot operate the tuckshop on her own! We need 2-3 volunteers each day to ensure we can open the tuckshop doors and serve our children.
We need YOU! The Tuckshop can only operate with the support of our fantastic volunteers, and we would love for you to be part of the team. If you can spare any time; by baking home treats on the weekend, joining our sticker club whilst you wait before school or helping in the tuckshop itself, please get in touch to lend a helping hand. Every little bit helps! If you have a keen grandparent, neighbour or friend, we would also love their help. Sign up here! Or email the P&C for further details.

Wellbeing apps provide 24/7 access to mental health support, making them invaluable resources for families with busy schedules. Integrating mindfulness, relaxation, and personal growth in daily routines through wellbeing apps may help your child to improve their mental health in a fun, engaging way. The following are some recommended apps that may be a great addition to your child’s evening routine and a positive way to encourage conversations around mental wellbeing.
Positive Penguins
This educational app was designed to help build self-esteem and optimism has been created by a Melbourne schoolgirl and her family. One of the best anxiety apps for kids, Positive Penguins HD is a simple, interactive, educational tool to help children understand their emotions and to experience them in a positive way. It also provides children with practical ways to understand and cope with these emotions and, most importantly, change the way they think.
Smiling Mind
Smiling Mind offers hundreds of mindfulness activities for all ages. In addition to breathing meditations, the app has sensory exercises, like listening to music. This free mindfulness app is designed to help kids manage stress, resilience, anxiety, depression and improve general health and wellbeing. Smiling Mind is a unique mindfulness app developed by psychologists and educators to help bring balance to your life. There are programs for kids in different age groups, as well as for schools, workplaces, and sports.
Headspace
Headspace for Kids is a great app that introduces grade-schoolers to mindfulness through fun, guided meditations. It focuses on five key themes: Calm, Focus, Kindness, Sleep, and Wake Up. Designed for kids ages 5-12, the app offers 3-minute sessions that help them develop focus, self-awareness, and stress relief. With animations and age-specific exercises, children can learn the basics of meditation in a playful, engaging way.

Lost property
Term 2 is proving to be an interesting time when it comes to sport and being outside. Right now, the weather is either hot, cold or rainy which is a challenge for everybody. For many students, a jumper is required at the start of the lesson, but is quickly discarded when the activity starts. Any jumpers left behind will be placed in lost property unless it is clearly named and I can return it.
City District Cross Country.
On Friday 2nd May students from years 3-6 participated in the City District Cross Country. They did incredibly well and pushed themselves very hard against some very strong competition.
Well-done to all the runners. You did yourselves and our school proud.
Elka J ran a fantastic race and placed first in her age group. What a run Elka!!! You now have a difficult decision either running in the Met North or attending camp. We wish you best of luck!
A big thanks to Mr Jason Taylour and Mrs Penny Fitzpatrick who managed the team and helped in the City District tent on the day.
ESS 2025 Cross Country team photo courtesy of Mel Russell, unfortunately Elka and Josie are missing from the photo.
There have also been many City District sport trials happening this term. Rugby, Soccer and Tennis to name a few. Well done to those students who have trialled. Unfortunately as yet, there have been no successful students into those teams.
School PE
We are now well and truly preparing for our athletics carnival. Running, jumping and throwing is our focus.
Parents, can you please ensure your child has their hat for PE. There are a growing number of students without hats for the PE lessons that impacts everyone’s learning. Over the last few weeks way too many students have not had a hat to participate. This is frustrating for our classes as we need to wait longer for students to collect a hat and join us. It would be great if you could help in checking your child has a hat and brings it to school every day.

Student Wellbeing Officer News
Term 2 is in full swing now we are over all the public holidays (hahah), but let’s be honest who doesn’t love a long weekend.
The students have missed our Wellbeing radio on the Fridays, but we are back with new music and more dance moves than ever. Wellbeing Radio is on every Friday at second break.
Wellbeing Brekkie is also back on Tuesday morning, with serving starting at 8.20am and ending at 8.40am. Now we are starting to head into the cooler times of the year what better way to start your Tuesday morning than with a nice warm piece of toast.
If you’re in year 6 and would like to volunteer for Wellbeing Brekkie please come and see me and I can put your name down.
Below is a list of a few organisations that you can reach out to if you’re struggling or going through a tough time.

National Road Safety Week 11 to 18 May 2025
About the week
National Road Safety Week (NRSW) is an annual initiative established by President of the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARAH) Group, Peter Frazer, after his daughter Sarah was killed in an avoidable crash in February 2012.
NRSW is run in partnership with road safety organisations and governments. The Department of Transport and Main Roads is a proud government partner who has supported Yellow Ribbon Road Safety Week since it started in May 2013. With your help, we can encourage all Queenslanders to drive so others survive.
National Road Safety Week will run from 11 to 18 May 2025. The aim of the week is to:
- Remember the approximately 1,300 people who lose their life and 40,000 seriously injured in road crashes on Australian roads each year by:
- Lighting landmarks around Australia yellow to shine a light on road safety
- Display a yellow ribbon (ribbons, lapel pins, vehicle stickers and flags)
- Encourage people to take a pledge to 'Drive so others survive' on the website
- Promote the aim of reducing lives lost and injured on our roads by changing driver behaviour
- Encourage communities to get involved, to promote National Road Safety Week, and advocate for safe behaviours on our roads and paths.
- The overarching theme for the week is Drive so others survive – All road safety is local.
Each day of National Road Safety Week we focus on a different member or of the community who can be affected by road trauma.
Sunday 11 May - Remember the 1300 - Remember the people who have lost their lives and been seriously injured on Australian roads.
Monday 12 May - Your speed matters - Slowing down on our roads
Tuesday 13 May - The road to zero - Taking a road safety pledge

Thursday 15 May - Road safety for every age - Make safe choices today and every day

Saturday 17 May - Yellow ride - Sharing the road safely
Sunday 18 May - Take care on regional roads - Taking extra care on regional roads
In Australia, less than one third of the population lives in regional and remote areas, but nearly two thirds of all fatal road crashes occur on rural and remote roads. Today's National Road Safety Week (11-18 May 2025) theme is 'Take care and be aware on rural roads'.
So, even if you're a local and you're familiar with the area, next time you're driving on a regional road remember to follow these six simple steps:
- Slow down and drive to the conditions
- Don't drive tired
- Share the road
- Wear your seatbelt
- Plan your trip home – don't drink and drive
- Look at the road, not your phone.

The Prince of Peace Lutheran College community warmly invite you and the families of Year 3–6 students to attend our upcoming Subjects & Careers Expo on Tuesday, 3 June 2025.
This free event provides a unique opportunity for younger students and their families to explore a wide range of future pathways. With representatives from universities, trade colleges, TAFE, the Australian Federal Police (AFP), and ADF Defence Careers, the Expo is designed to inform and inspire, helping families gain insight into the diverse options available as students move through their schooling years.
The evening will begin with a Special Presentation for families of students in Years 3–7 at 4:30pm, followed by sessions tailored to senior students. From 5:30pm, the Main Expo will be in full swing, featuring stalls hosted by leading tertiary institutions, industry training providers, and career-focused organisations. Families can also visit our Subject Stands to explore Year subjects in more detail, with staff available to answer subject-specific questions and offer guidance. Food trucks will be onsite from 4:30pm to add to the community atmosphere.
We extend this invitation to your school community regardless of where students intend to complete their secondary education. The Expo is a welcoming and informative event for all families interested in learning more about future education and career pathways.
