This week, much to the delight of our teachers, we welcomed back our Preps and Year 1's. After a teary start for some, the students had a great day, settling quickly to work and routines. We are awaiting an announcement, hopefully about a return to full school attendance from 25th May, and will get further information to you as soon as possible.
Can I say a heartfelt thank you on behalf of all the staff for the ‘Cup of Kindness’ campaign, which resulted in a beautiful and valued gift of many coffees for staff. We were incredibly humbled by the generosity shown by the school community. We have also been touched by the many messages of support and lovely treats sent in by our families over the past weeks. We are so lucky to be part of such a beautiful community.
It is tricky when we value our strong community involvement, to limit movement throughout the school, particularly at drop off and pick up times, but we need to keep people outside the school gate wherever possible for the time being. While our processes have worked smoothly over the past few days, here are some refinements for the coming weeks.
- Currently Prep and Year 1 students are supervised at the gates in the afternoons, to ensure the development of good routines. After the next two weeks, we will continue to provide afternoon supervision at the EPAC gate and Stop Drop Go, until the end of term. Please ensure that your children know where you will be picking them up. We would suggest the same place every day.
- If you are picking up from Stop Drop Go, feel free to arrive any time until 3.15. Avoiding the 3pm rush means you can drive straight in rather than queuing.
- At Stop Drop Go, staff will direct your children to your car in a safe way. Do not leave your car and please do not call your children out any other gates to your car.
- If your child is riding to school, they are responsible for storing their bike in the cage in the morning and collecting it in the afternoon. Alternatively, parents can take bikes home and return them in the afternoon.
Thank you again for the understanding you have shown as we develop processes to respond to a rapidly changing situation.
We have seen some great examples of Learning at Home, thanks to the parents who have sent photos and information to our email keepingessconnected@enoggerass.eq.edu.au Congratulations to the winners of online our Art Competition Edmond, Hazel and Jasmine who produced some great art work as part of an extra at-home challenge.

Now that the weather has started to cool, please have students wear the Enoggera State School jacket or jumper which can be ordered through the QKR! app or alternatively purchase a plain Royal blue jacket or jumper.

Reporting Timelines for Semester 1 2020
Semester 1 Reporting will be finalised and provided to parents by the end of Week 3 Term 3. The slightly later date this year will enable Year 2 – 6 students to complete an additional 5 week teaching, learning and assessing cycle on their return to school in Week 6 of Term 2. The return of Prep and Year 1 students this week will ensure that planned learning outcomes for the term will be achieved by the end of Term 2.
Reporting for Semester 1 will consist of judgements made on formative and summative assessment collected in Terms 1 and 2, in addition to information collected from students (via teacher - student conferencing and workbooks). In line with departmental guidelines this term, The Report Card will include a statement outlining that the Semester 1 Reporting Period is based on information developed from a modified program of learning.

Year 2 News
It’s Week 4 of Term 2 already and after an unusual beginning to this term, we are counting down the days until all ESS students are back at school with their friends and teachers.
In Year 2 this term, the English tasks on Ed Studio have been set to practise and reinforce known literacy skills by investigating different text types and interesting characters. Fractured fairy tales have been a favourite with students because they show a different, and sometimes funny, perspective on traditional fairy tales. Many students expressed a personal preference for a text called, "The Wolf’s Story – What Really Happened To Little Red Riding Hood" because it was written with the wolf as the narrator professing his innocence. I am not sure that I would trust him myself, but you can find it on YouTube and decide for yourself. The students were asked to find similarities and differences between The Wolf’s Story and the traditional text Little Red Riding Hood to compare text types and characters. We hope they had fun!
Ms Gorey and Miss Currell have been having fun learning how to run iSee sessions to support the student’s online learning. The best part is seeing all of our students that we are missing so much. Thank you to the families for supporting your children to log on when possible and for bearing with us while we learn and teach at the same time.
Take care and we are looking forward to seeing you all soon.

Date claimer: QLD BRISBANE Region performances, Logan Entertainment Centre, 14th & 15th October 2020.
We’ve received the following information from Wakakirri and there is still some hope of students performing live at Logan! Shows will be a modified version of Wakakirri with reduced audiences designed to comply with social distancing guidelines.
- Wakakirri will take place approximately 9am to early evening each day (there will be NO traditional evening show starting at 7pm)
- Each school will get to two rehearsals then immediately perform their Story-Dance for the judges.
- It is our aim to have an audience to watch each rehearsal and performance. Here are the 3 possible scenarios;
- The audience is made up of other schools performing that day plus parents and friends spaced out to comply with social distancing measures
- The audience is made up only of other schools performing in Wakakirri that day spaced apart to comply with social distancing restrictions
- There is no audience, only judges because of social distancing restrictions
- Show results will be announced via email and a national TV special will announce the Story of The Year
Regardless of whether or not the live performance occurs, we have decided to go ahead with Wakakirri at ESS as an Arts enrichment activity. We hope to share the item at Arts on Stage later in the year should restrictions be lifted.
So hang on tight Wakakirri families, no further action is required regarding forms or fees until the status of the live event at Logan is confirmed on June 22nd.

Welcome back this week to all of our Prep and Year 1 students. It’s wonderful to see you all and fantastic to see so many of you borrowing.
Even though a lot of us are learning differently this term and everything is a bit strange for us, it is actually a fantastic opportunity to read on many different platforms. We can’t wait to hear about all of your reading adventures when we are all together again.
This term Scholastic Book Club aren’t issuing paper brochures. If you are interested in purchasing from them, the link for the virtual brochure is below. On the last page of the brochure you will find how to order. For anyone who does make a purchase, when your order arrives at school, I will call you for collection. Don’t forget that as a bonus the school receives free resources with any purchases made. But more importantly your child gets to build on their own personal book collection. The cut- off date will be this Friday 15th May.

This collection of eBooks includes easy readers, comic and graphic books, science fiction and fantasy resources. Please take the time to look through the huge selection of books that are available for students to read and for you to read to your child.
We have also registered again this year for the 2020 Premier's Reading Challenge
The Premier's Reading Challenge is an annual statewide initiative for state and non-state schools and home-educated students up to Year 9, and children enrolled in an early childhood centre or program.
The challenge is not a competition but aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read widely for pleasure and learning. Children and students can participate in the challenge within their school, early childhood centre or as individual readers (home-educated students or students whose schools are not participating in the program).
For Prep — Year 9 students to successfully complete the challenge they must read or experience an allocated number of books based upon their year level during the reading period.
Children and students who complete the challenge will have their efforts recognised through the receipt of a Certificate of Achievement signed by the Premier of Queensland.
For further information and to download the school reader record form visit the Premier's Reading Challenge website https://readingchallenge.education.qld.gov.au/
Happy Reading

- The Chaplain is always available for phone support or video call to support parents or similar with children (in consultation with Ms Butler)
- I have a podcast called ‘Chappy Chats’ which is available on Spotify and iTunes which is played on Radio Station 96Five
- There is also an Instagram account that I run that you can view called Chaplain_life if your child or yourself is so inclined.
- If you would like written encouragement for your child in the form of a letter please request this also by contact sarahp2@chappy.org.au
- I am also able help you access other support services that may be needed if you contact the above email or call the school.
Remember that we are ALL going through this challenging time together and that we all at some point will need encouragement to get through.

Dear ESS families,
We hope you are taking care of yourselves while dealing with the current health guidelines and their restrictions.
During this time we have been working to keep the P&C ticking over and will continue to do so.
We are still hoping to run our AGM by the end of term (online) and will keep you updated and ensure plenty of notice is given if it goes ahead.
A CUP OF THANKS CAMPAIGN
Thankyou everyone who donated to the campaign – we reached a huge 261 beverages!! It was lovely to see the community rally around the school staff and show their appreciation for all that they are doing to help our children during these challenging times.
To the staff - we hope you’re enjoying the “cups of thanks” and each one reminds you how valued and appreciated you are.
TUCKSHOP
The Tuckshop will remained closed until at least week 6. When it does re-open the menu will be limited due to COVID -19 restrictions limiting how many people can be in the tuckshop at one time. Orders will only be available via the QKR! App with no over the counter sales at either 1st or 2nd break until further notice.
We will send all families’ further information regarding this as it comes to hand.
UNIFORM SHOP
The uniform shop is currently operating via the QKR! App only. Orders can be collected the following Tues from the office, students may collect if authorised by parents. We will update families when we are able to open the on-site shop as soon as possible. Any questions or queries please don't hesitate to contact us.
EVENTS
Due to the event restrictions we have had to cancel and postpone events taking place over the next couple of months.
Steve Biddulph raising Girls/Boys seminars have been cancelled. Tickets will be refunded, please check your email for further details.
Susan McLean- Cyber safety seminar has been postponed. As with most events we are looking to reschedule to a later date but will need some time to coordinate with Susan and her team.
We will be rolling all ticket sales over to the new date but in the meantime should you wish to proceed with a refund please let us know.
If you are unavailable to attend the new date you will be able to acquire a refund.
Crazy Colour School Fun Run has been postponed and we are looking at possible dates for Term 3. Ideally we will run this event as soon as possible and look forward to celebrating with you all once it is safe to do so.
CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE
WE NEED YOUR CONTAINERS
Unsure which drink containers to bring to the school?
Just check the back of the bottles for the 10c refund symbol. If the 10c refund is noted on the bottle they can be collected and brought to the school for disposal in big the purple bins.
For a full break down of the included and excluded containers, please follow this link to the Containers for Change website: how-it-works.
Unsure how to collect your containers?
You can collect your containers using whatever you like! There is no need to have special bags for the collection. Just put your containers in a bucket, tub, storage container or even an old shopping bag and when it is full, put it in the boot of your car and empty the containers into the purple bins located at the front and back of the school between 7am and 3pm. It's that easy.
Remember to only dispose of eligible containers and not rubbish.
