Dear Parent and Caregivers,
END OF TERM EVENTS
This last week of term is a very busy week with key events happening. These events include our Inter-house Athletics Carnivals for Snr students on Wednesday 22/6 and Jnr students on Thursday 23/6 at Mt Maria College fields and our Under 8’s Celebration on the last morning of the term on Friday 24/6 for students in Prep-2. We look forward to celebrating the end of term with our students at these special events.
PRINCIPAL’S ASSEMBLY
It was lovely to celebrate a successful semester at our Principal’s Assembly on Monday morning where we presented three awards to each class under our three school pillars of Learning, Safety and Relationships. The Learning Pillar is for demonstrating academic effort throughout the semester. The Safety Pillar is for demonstrating positive behaviour consistently throughout the semester and the Relationships Pillar is for demonstrating school pride.
SEMESTER REPORTS AND PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Tomorrow afternoon the end of Semester One reports will be emailed home to families. To ensure you receive the email please ensure that the One School email address does not go into your junk email. Likewise, if you have changed your email address please ensure the school has it updated in One School so that you receive the email from One School tomorrow afternoon.
Receiving of the reports is a good opportunity to have a reflective conversation with your child around their progress this semester and to set some goals for next semester. We realise that with the reduced time and many disruptions to learning due to the delayed start, COVID absences and also the floods that grades may not be where they need to be for this semester, but please be assured that our staff are working hard to ensure that by the end of the year that all achievement standards have been covered and our students are where they need to be.
For this reason, we have moved the Parent Teacher Interviews for Term 3 to week 2 of the term so that it is at the beginning of the new semester and timely to be reviewing the Semester One achievements and creating goals and making plans for Semester Two. Previously, when we have held these interviews at the end of Term 3 it is too late to be making semester plans. This means that the Parent Teacher Interview bookings through SOBS will open when school comes back on the first day back 11/7 and will remain open until Monday of week 2 -18/7 and interviews will be held in week 2, 19/7 of the term on Tuesday evening again in EPAC.
INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATE
Things are motoring along now with the build and we are seeing daily progress as we head towards the slab going down. When we come back after the holidays we are hoping to have some access returned along the front of the library and to have the new Yr 3-6 playground completed and our oval returned. The new stairs from the multi-purpose court should be well under way, if not finished, also.
READER’S CUP COMPETITION
It was lovely to acknowledge the hard work of our Reader’s Cup team who competed at the Brisbane North event at Kurwongbah State School recently. As this is the first time we have entered this event it was great to see our students competing against other seasoned, competing schools. Out of 37 schools we came 21st overall, but it was certainly heartening to see that we were very competitive in the some of the rounds, which means we will need to work to be more consistent across each of the texts for next year. Considering we lost one team member to an overseas holiday the week before the competition and one to COVID the week of the competition and our team played without a reserve on the day we are extremely proud of the way they carried on.
At our Principal’s Assembly on Monday we presented the students with their certificates of participation and congratulated them on their great effort. Well done to Evelene, Sophie, Freya, Sabrina, Lara and Aron!
ASSISTANT REGIONAL DIRECTOR VISIT
Last week it was lovely to have our regular visit from our ARD, Mr Rob Van den Heuvel. During his visit he met with the leadership team and we went on a tour of the school to check on progress of the facilities development. Of course, though the major focus of his visit is always teaching and learning where we discuss our improvement priorities, study our school data and visit classrooms to talk with teachers and students. This visit we spent time in the Yr 4 classrooms where he was checking on progress of our Learning Walls and how students are using the walls to “bump up” their grades in English. In 4A he had a detailed conversation with Bronte about how she finds the wall and how she is using it to achieve to the A/B standard and in 4B he spoke with Walter, who we also watched present his Traditional Tale assessment to the class.
He was also able to join in on the Yr 5/6 teachers whilst they were moderating the final assessment pieces in English at their PLC meeting. They were unpacking the travel brochures the students had created against the marking guides and achievement standards in English. Mrs O’Malley (HOD-C) was doing a great job facilitating the moderation conversations.
SCHOOL WATCH
A timely reminder that the School Watch program encourages everyone to look out for and report any after-hours crime in our schools. Empty schools can become targets for unlawful entry, arson, stealing, graffiti and property damage, especially during school holiday periods. This comes at a cost to the whole community and not just the financial cost of repairs.
The School Watch program is a partnership between the Department of Education and Protective Services Group, Queensland Police Service, providing a way for members of the community to report anything they see that is suspicious, even if it seems minor. On average, more than 700 calls are made to School Watch every year, helping to keep our schools safe.
Look, Listen, Report. Call School Watch on 13 17 88. If you see a crime in progress, call Triple Zero (000).
TERM THREE OPEN DAY
As we prepare our calendar of events for Term Three we have set the date for our next OPEN DAY for prospective 2023 families. This Open Day will be on Wednesday August 3, commencing at 9am with a presentation in EPAC again and then going on a tour of the facilities. Following that Open Day we will commence our Prep Transition program with Enrolment Interviews for 2023 Prep Students in the final two weeks of the term from September 5 to September 16. These will be able to be booked through the SOBS system and information will go out to enrolled families and in our newsletter prior to the bookings opening. Please pass on this information to families who are looking at our school for 2023 whether in-catchment enrolments or intending to apply for an out-of-catchment placement, if available.
It was lovely to recently be invited to visit the 4B Pinball Parlour. The students Design and Technology unit this term was focussed around designing a pin ball machine. The students then made up their design at home with the help of family and brought them in for the culminating activity. They had planned out how the event would run, created tickets allocated tasks and roles and most importantly roster time to play the pinnies. Mrs Burrows and I had a great time trying out the designs. Well done Mrs Harris and 4B. What a wonderful way to culminated the learning from the term.

Everton Park State High School – Photography Competition
This term, Everton Park State High School ran a photography competition and invited local Year 4, 5 and 6 primary school students to participate.
A number of Enoggera State School students entered the competition, with one student achieving Runner Up in the Primary category.
Congratulations to Elle in Year 6. Your photo titled ‘Kerry Secret Valley’ was truly spectacular and linked perfectly with the theme of the competition: Mother Nature. Well done!
HOLIDAYS I hope that everyone has a relaxing and restful holiday and gets to spend some quality time with families over the break. If you are travelling on our roads please stay safe as we want all of our precious students back at school on day 1 of Term 3 on Monday July 11.
Till next time, Mrs Anne Robinson Principal |
Deputy Principal Pen

It is hard to believe that we are almost at the halfway point of the year! It has been wonderful to watch our students right across the school learn and grow during this time. I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon session with Prep A yesterday while the Teachers and Teacher Aides participated in some professional development. It was rewarding to see how confident the preppies are now ‘doing school’, after meeting many of them at enrolment interviews almost 9 months earlier! We worked on decorating their tote bags for Under 8s Day on Friday and they are all very excited to participate in the activities planned by their teachers!
This week is a very busy week with the Principal’s Awards Assembly on Monday, Senior Sports day on Wednesday, Junior Sports Day on Thursday and Under 8s Morning on Friday. Students and Teachers will all be looking forward to a very well-deserved holiday after this big week of events and term full of teaching and learning! I wish all our families in our school community a safe and relaxing winter holiday. I look forward to seeing you all back for Term Three. |
Student Council Update
The Student Council met last week to reflect on Term Two and to plan for Term Three. The students were very happy with the success of their ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ Day and next term, they are planning to run a ‘Gratitude Wall’ in which students will write what they are grateful for on coloured post-it notes and place them on the wall at the top of the administration block stairs. Research shows that being grateful is very beneficial to overall wellbeing, and our Student Council are keen to ensure the emotional wellbeing of our students.

The Student Council are also going to launch some fundraising next term. They have decided to fundraise for Childhood Cancer Support through Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19th. The day is all about dressing up and having fun while making a difference to the lives of childhood cancer families.
To raise money for their Legacy Project, the Student Council are going to run a Subway Food Day (on a non-tuckshop day) and a Picture Products fundraiser. The money raised from these initiatives will go towards purchasing either Buddy Benches or Water Coolers for the school as their legacy. We will provide more information on these fundraisers next term. I know that our community will be keen to support our Student Council.

Our school Facebook page is a handy way to keep up to date with upcoming events! We encourage all of our parents to follow our page so you can enjoy the wonderful experiences our school has to offer. The more you interact with the page by liking and commenting on posts, the more our page will appear in your newsfeed. Messages and questions on our Facebook page can be overlooked, so this is not the quickest and most reliable way of getting clarification around school events. It is always best to ring the office or email the class teacher. We are continuing to add events to the calendar, so be sure to check the events tab to see what is coming up in the last two weeks of the term. Thanks for your support of our Facebook page and for interacting on the page with respect and support.

Our performance day is fast approaching. Please make sure that the completed Excursion Activity Consent Form and payment are submitted by Friday 15th July. Recently, we received ticket and merchandise information for families. This information will be distributed this week so that families may place orders.
Next term, we will need some parent help. Our sets and props are under control thanks to loads of repurposing and the use of projection. However, during our Sunday rehearsal, we would love some parents to label, iron and bag up the costumes (likely to be over 240 costume items).
Key dates:
Thursday 11th August – Wakakirri Live Performance Day
- Whole team rehearsal on Sunday 7th August 1-4pm (EPAC)
- 5thor 6th September Awards Show (selected schools only)

Senior Dance Ensemble
Well done students on a fine performance at the end of term assembly. The students have worked very hard to develop their performance skills and technique. The team have also had a number of rehearsals cancelled due to Covid and flood, so proud of you all.
Students will continue to develop the dance (and start another if possible). Later in the year the students will perform in fabulous dance costumes at Arts on Stage.
Well done team!
Melissa Wilcox
MUSIC NEWS
Thank you to everyone for a lovely semester. Some highlights for our Music students included Fanfare (Strings) and some fantastic performances on assembly from our Choirs and Strings.

Recorder: Week 4
Strings News
In string news, eleven students from Grades 5 and 6 were invited to participate in the Ferny Grove Cluster's Advanced Music Camp. They spent four days playing in tutorials and rehearsals with Mr. Gwyn Roberts and students from many schools in our local cluster, and participating in choir and zumba! We finished the week with a big concert on Thursday night. It was a wonderful success, and all the Grade 5 students who participated are really looking forward to doing it again next year. Congratulations, AMC participants!
Year 2- Instrumental Music Recruitment 2023
Starting early next term the Year 2s will be commencing the process for finding out the next String program recruits for 2023.
The process includes undergoing a aural listening test during Classroom Music, an Expression of Interest feedback form, consultation and feedback from the classroom teacher and inspection of Semester 1 Classroom and Music results.
If there are any questions please forward these to Ms Hopper mxhop2@eq.edu.au or Mrs Harle (Strings teacher) mehar0@eq.edu.au
The Year 2s have been completing a unit about Instruments of the Orchestra in Term 2 so are familiar with the Instruments available in the Strings program.
It may be beneficial to have a conversation at home about if your child has an interest in playing Violin, Viola or Cello and also the commitment learning an instrument takes.
Please note there are always limited places available, often less than demand so places unfortunately cannot always be offered to everyone who is interested.

Reporting Timelines and information
Semester 1 Report Cards will be distributed to parents via email on Thursday 23rd June. It is very important that you notify administration of any change of details via Admin@enoggerass.eq.edu.au
These documents provide information on your child’s demonstrated ability against year level achievement standards and their effort in each Subject. Students overall achievement marks are based on assessment tasks completed in Term 1 and Term 2. Reporting is measured against a 5 point scale for each juncture of learning.
Year level Teachers moderate at varying stages of the teaching and learning cycle to ensure consistency and calibrated judgements. It is important to remember that student grades may vary from semester to semester due to the aspects of curriculum standards being assessed and the way in which assessment is being demonstrated (for example, test, oral presentation). Should you have any questions around your child’s progress please contact their class teacher via email.
Important Reading Events 9 May – 26 August
Students are busily reading at home and at school for the Premier’s reading challenge. Students have been provided with a reading record sheet and can access more by asking their teacher or downloading at: https://readingchallenge.education.qld.gov.au/register/Documents/school-reader-record-form.PDF
Book Week 2022 - August 20 – 26 (Term 3 Week 7)
The theme is about stepping into your own story and dreaming with your eyes open, listening to country as the first storyteller and learning from friends who help you on your way. Enoggera State school will have many fun activities available for students in the library during this week to celebrate the event. Our Book Week Parade will occur at the end of the week. We love seeing all the wonderful creative costumes! Further information will be provided in upcoming Newsletters. Please note the shortlisted books nominated for Picture Book of the Year below.
Environmental Learning at Enoggera
This term Year 3 and 4 have been investigating sustainable practices undertaken at Enoggera. Students have researched the processes involved in Composting and Recycling; the people responsible for running the practices and recognised the impacts and benefits that these environmental initiatives have on our personal, school and community health. Students have loved exploring the resources first hand!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
There was no response to the last newsletter seeking volunteers to assist in the Tuckshop or Uniform Shop in term 3. The provision of the Tuckshop and Uniform Shop as a school service is dependent on parent and family volunteers.
The Tuckshop cannot continue to provide the menu selection or possibly open if parents are not willing to offer a small amount of time to support their child’s school. The children love their tuckshop giving them something to look forward to. Our tuckshop is only open 2 days per week and is struggling to continue to be open on these days.
If you are able to volunteer in the Tuckshop or contribute via home baking please contact the P & C via pandc@enoggerass.eq.edu.au
Don’t forget grandparents or family members can assist by volunteering or baking!
The Uniform Shop needs a couple of volunteers to be trained during Term 3 and available to assist during the busy period at the end of the year and in January. Please contact pandc@enoggerass.eq.edu.au if you are able to assist, it will be less than 1 hour per week, possibly fortnightly!
Containers for Change
Don’t forget to drop off your containers in the purple bins conveniently placed around the school! Alternatively you can visit the depot, deposit your containers and contribute to the ESS scheme, our school scheme ID is C10051863.
